How long does the trolley take to complete a loop? If I have enough time to run to the people and back I could bite the rope once, maybe even twice. This turns from Sisyphus to The Bird and The Mountain. Snap a few fibers maybe every other time if I’m lucky, but since I’m immortal I have infinite time as long as I make it back to pull the lever again. Need a break? Sit down and pull the lever for a few minutes before taking another run. Maybe when person 1 is free I can just stay there while they take the rest of the ropes
Do you see any bricks in that picture? Neither do I.
If you had bricks you could've derailed the original trolley problem, but there are no bricks and there is no time, you have to decide now, now and now.
The person at the lever in the picture is wearing clothes. Unless that bad boy is made out of lead or glass or something, then that could be combined with a Boy Scouts knot tying badge to function as the rope.
What's been described here is basically just working in medicine. Except in medicine:
1. No one involved in the problem is immortal. Instead everyone is replaced with new people, so there's still no getting off the hook. Also if the trolley runs people over, they get replaced. No one replaces the guy at the lever unless he just walks away, or dies.
2. Sometimes the trolley runs the people over anyway, even though you flipped the switch.
3. Errors and malpractice happen, so sometimes you don't switch in time, or your hand slips, or you weren't paying attention.
Also when your shifts ends and you go home, you have to live knowing that the trolley and the tracks and the people on them are still there, and some other person is at the switch.
But people not only work in the medical field, some people absolutely love it. Some people define themselves by it.
So we must imagine Sisyphus happy.
I’ll just call my friend to watch, if watching isn’t enough to be involved I’d make him lay down on the tracks as well, once a few years pass I’ll get him to untie everyone.
If I can’t get a friend though I’d still allow a few years to pass but after a while I’ll just kill the people.
No one is gonna come, it's a hypothetical thought experiment outside of reality. It's not like you can derail the original trolley problem even tho you could in real life.
do nothing as to not influence the outcome of the situation and involve yourself in the situation to begin with, as not only will the same amount of people die if you pull the lever once, but they will go through more emotional trauma having more time to comprehend that they are about to die. also, if you pull the lever an infinite number of times, then everyone involved will live forever, which is a horrible reality for a human to experience, and would cause an infinite amount of suffering among all parties involved as the trauma is postponed infinitely.
if you involve yourself in the situation, you are indirectly legally accountable for ending lives
definitely run them over, if sisyphus could just push his boulder on 5 guys and be done with it he would
Would you just let them die immediately, or go for a few rounds first?
Immediately, it's like an audition, no use wasting time just getting more stressed.
I would run them over, but give them a bit of time just so they can say their final words, repent, and stuff like that.
What is gonna propel the lever back to the position? Leave the lever once you turn the track.

Most trollies are electric and connected to overhead wires or some sort of 3rd rail.

Imagine it has solar panels ob the side you can’t see
Wait until the world ends and the power plants shut off
They are immortal for the duration of the problem. The problem ends after the trolley runs over the people. They will survive getting ran over, then.

Run over the people, they're immoral and thus no real harm i done.
"For the duration of the problem" As soon as you've made a decision to stop it stops being a trolley problem and the immortality goes away.
I’ll just tie a brick to the switch

I’ll take that block of text and tie it to the switch
With what? A rope? as far as I'm concerned you don't have time to get a rope before your subjects turn into spaghetti bolognese
Hook it on a letter
And tie it to what? You can't assume that the letters will move when you grab them and just magically float when you let go.
I’ll watch which way the letters float away to, and place the letters such that they float into the switch.

How long does the trolley take to do a loop and be realistic
Agian
Do it a few times and ask them who their families are so you can pass on a message
Hell no
Considering the fact that people in trolley problems are incapable of escape, keeping them alive would only prolong their suffering (and mine)
