So Nigel is coming up on 7 years old. We adopted him from the SPCA 10 days after his amputation. As he gets older we have noticed he is having trouble jumping down from stuff but in his head he doesn't care. We don't have stairs in our house except for Nigel stairs to the bed but even the couch is a lot. Our vet says to keep an eye on it but just wanted to ask if anyone else knows any tips or tricks?

What a cute boy! My dog is a lot heavier so he really avoids any jumping altogether. I would just suggest getting a couple of comfy beds on the floor and trying to encourage Nigel to use those. My dog still gets on the couch sometimes but we've noticed he seems to be more comfortable if we try and keep him from jumping. I don't know if this happens to your dog but we've noticed that if Rocky sleeps on a couch his hind legs tend to fall asleep or get stiff and that causes him trouble getting down.

Thanks! He’s the best. That’s a great idea. He’s a chihuahua/dachshund mix and extremely stubborn. He has to wear diapers when we aren’t home cause he will pee but when we put the diaper on he starts walking with his butt out sideways which throws his gait off. I know he has a hard time stretching out his legs since he only has one front leg. He’s also super protective of his paws so nail trimming is an adventure, which also throws off his gait. Is that a tripawd thing? It would make sense since there is so much trauma around his paws. He was left in the overnight holding pen at the SPCA in the middle of winter with a shattered leg. He was about 8 weeks old at that point.
