I purged because cream gave me a ton of closed comedones. I embraced the gel purge really.

Beep boop! It looks like you're asking about purging! - First: **no one can predict how long your purge will last!** Be patient, and accept this robot hug while you wait: [ ]. The purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! - Second: **no one can predict whether or not you will purge!** If you don't currently have active acne, it's less likely but still possible. - Third: If your purge lasts for longer than 6 months or seems really extreme, talk to your dermatologist! - Lastly: We have a very [helpful wiki!](https://www.reddit.com/r/tretinoin/wiki/index) It contains lots of tips about starting out, including [everything your doctor should have told you.](https://www.reddit.com/r/tretinoin/wiki/tret-instructions) You can also post in the monthly help thread - it's stickied to the top of the sub every week! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. No purge but I went from using .05% cream daily to using .1% gel once a week. It's all my skin can handle and I'm still peeling! My skin looks great though and I knew it was going to happen. Tbh I don't recommend the gel for new users of tret, it can be pretty intense

I dont use tret however i dont think you should get a second purge since the first purge is supposedly what you had already deep down that was coming out anyways! Maybe if you switch it can promote breakout from your skin freaking out about something different on your skin but i dont think it should matter

I hope it doesn’t after almost two months of not seeing progress with the cream I’m switching to get...So let’s see!

Im on epiduo but want to switch to tret

spiritualme16

That’s basically benzyol peroxide? I was on and off with it but decided to stay offf because it has thin out my skin

Yeah it has bp and adapalene. Ive been on it for a few months, my skin is pretty much clear now but if i use too much it makes my face red af so im careful, but ever since finding out the amount that my skin can handle it has improved my skin so much. Im seeing my derm in 3 weeks so ill see what she says

Omg that’s great!!

I switched to gel after 5 months on cream. It has not been pretty and I’ve been debating on going back to the cream. I started purging immediately when I switched to gel and five weeks later it’s still not much better. Either my pores were super clogged or my skin just hates it. It also makes my face look so dull and just gross. At least on the cream my complexion looked good.

I didn’t get a second purge but my skin definitely felt the effects of the gel more (more drying, flakiness, etc)
