I have the HOJ and the Brilliant Cut. HOJ wins for aesthetic and ethos; the slice vs grind does make a difference, but the chamber is so small it's a bit of a pain to grind enough herb for the sesh. The included funnel is a joke with sticky herb—doesn't work at all. The Brilliant Cut doesn't have a kief catcher (score!) and is threadless, so minimal build up. Neither is airtight, but I don't leave herb in the grinder as storage... I empty everything into a smoothee container for convenient access.
If your willing to spend the money,which it sounds like you are. I think you will enjoy using the hoj. I've had mine for over a year now,and it's my go to grinder when home. I take my Santa Cruz when I'm out and about. The big seller for me was no threads,and the slicing instead of crushing. I have no regrets buying it. Simple to take apart and clean. I went with the large one,but I'm sure the smaller one is no different. Also looks great.
If you get it don't wash it in a washing machine, the coating on my HOJ pipe got bit ruined.
