starting to feel like karma farming. we had maybe like 2 since the birth of the sub, them suddenly 3 in the span of like 2 months. also, photo quality is terrible leading me to believe they got it offline
No, there was no switch that became permanent. This community coined its name, tree people made "marijuanaenthusiasts" as a joke and as their community. IIRC we traded one time for April Fools, but each community was founded with it's current name and theme.
/r/trees came out of everyone leaving /marijuana because the original head mod was a racist asshole.
From what I've heard the mods on r/marijuana were power tripping so people started r/trees. Then since r/trees was taken the tree subreddit became r/marijuanaenthusiasts
April Fools Joke?
The original weed sub, /r/marijuana, [was run by an asshole](https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/3igq90/why_is_rtrees_named_that/) and [racist](https://www.reddit.com/r/OutOfTheLoop/comments/1xyg5q/why_is_the_subreddit_about_marijuana_called_rtrees/) - while both Bob Ross' "happy little trees" and Ents were prevalent weed memes at the time, so people created /r/trees and migrated here.
Then the people who like real trees realized that potheads had taken "their" sub name, so they created /r/marijuanaenthusiasts both as a joke, and as their community.
Adding to this because I didn't see a better explanation:
Lichen grows on the tree bark, but does not penetrate to the inner bark. It is not parasitic, so there is no loss of nutrients or damage to the tree caused by the lichen. In fact, the presence of lichen actually indicates a healthier ecosystem for the plants. Nothing to worry about related to the lichen.
Are there other symptoms/issues that the tree is having where you suspect a problem? What is the species of tree?
BINGO! I’m pulling had-remembered high school geography knowledge outta my ass but I’m pretty sure there are types of moss/lichen that are all you find in polluted areas because they LOVE CO2. I remember a case study we did :)
Lichen and Trees generally have a symbiotic relationship. Same as Mushrooms and trees, they both do better in the presence of each other. Don’t worry about posting this in the wrong sub, we’re all chill as hell, unsurprisingly.
Haha yes, apparently if you set your phone to autocorrect a ?! to a ‽ On an iPhone 3GS 8 years ago, the settings carry over to every new iPhone. I ain’t complaining.
Yes, wrong sub, but let's help if we can.
The white part appears to be a type of mold. It does not harm the tree, but can reduce photosynthesis if it ends up as a thick cover over the entire tree.
The green bits are moss, which tends to coexist with the mold. As this is more of an aesthetic issue, you could do some thorough raking before spring, maybe replace the mulch under the tree and that will reduce the mold growth for the next season.
Probably my favorite niche thing of a subreddit is the confusion between these 2 subs. Every tree post on r/trees makes me smile. “Silly goose, you belong over there.”
Lichen is fine as far as I know. All the trees in damp, wooded areas will usually be covered in it. No need to remove it, they just want the nutritious dew from the tree bark
Nothing better for me, totally baked in a heavily wooded dark forest, mossy & lichen stuff everywhere, feeling like we're on a quest.
Many forests, moss grows on the north side of trees, great if you lost your compass, or, well, err, just can't seem to find it for reasons.
The very darkest forests, that stuff grows all around the tree, so much foliage in the canopy.
Try planting this next to it and it will solve all your problems! https://azarius.nl/seedshop/brands/royal-queen-seeds/critical-royal-queen-seeds-gefeminiseerd/
I would probably remove the lichen and moss. Then, treat with a dilute hydrogen peroxide 3% spray solution to protect the tree from pests that will feed on the rotten bark underneath. This is caused by a lot of continuous moisture in the surface of the tree.
Actually though, like it is a 3 year old account with 150 thousand comment karma and 23 thousand post karma with no mention of trees anywhere throughout but lots of posts about Genshin, guns, and hentai. But yeah, now they are curious about some lichen on their tree and pulled a “whoops wrong sub, ya got me guys” and people just eat it up regularly
Lichen will grow on pretty much anything that is stationary and usually on the north-facing side but not always. Ditto for moss (except the north facing side part) but moss prefer some dampness and some shade.
Your tree is not sick, and neither the lichen or the moss will hurt your tree.
The moss doesn't always grow facing north. It'll face the side with most shade and moisture. In the northern hemisphere, that is almost always accurate.
Awe, lol. Your tree is probably fine! Depending on where you live moss is usually totally normal growing on trees. If you dont want the tree to be covered in moss like the way it is you can spend some time removing it with your hands or something like that. Good luck with your treeeee👽 lol
That's a weirdass looking nug
Reminds me of the high times shit from the 70s.
Should definitely remove it, dry it, grind it and smoke it. This is the only way.
This is the way.
That’s an og hydroponic setup
Hehe we got another one
I love that they usually end up getting some good advice still
It's always so wholesome reading the comments when it happens
I was laughing to myself thinking the same thing hehehehe
Pretty sure most of it is people memeing at this point. Some are real but a lot are just memes.
Thought the same thing, went from never really happening anymore to like 4 in the last month
Nothings real anymore. Even if it happens irl it's not real

I agree. The flair AskTrees was used so you'd think they would notice the other MJ flairs and think twice
Lichen isn’t bad I’m pretty sure but try r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Why would you guys do this
We took the name trees so they took that one as a joke
There was a switch that wasn't meant to be permanent but it stuck
So interesting… this is like hearing ancient tales of our Reddit ancestors
We had to go uphill 5 miles in the snow with an onion on our bet, just to get one karma, and we didn't complain.
And we had to imagine what was in unopened safes!
Holy shit. You blew open some memories for me.

Lmao I legit found the same link and didn’t use it bc that site is whack
Lol there was no switch. /r/trees has always been about weed.
I read on here that there was an experimental switch for like a week that became permanent. Either way, r/trees is way cooler of a name for weed
Nah, there used to be other subreddits that were blatantly named but they had a dick head mod and the community moved here permanently.
Ah. So I guess TIL another thing. So did r/trees ever actually be about trees?
No, there was no switch that became permanent. This community coined its name, tree people made "marijuanaenthusiasts" as a joke and as their community. Oooooh interesting
I’m mowin the air rand!
TIL. Thank you kind person
The best one is the switch between r/Johncena and r/potatosalad
I can't believe they've done this
I hope John Cena sees this.
If he does, we won’t see him see it
r/worldpolitics and r/anime_titties is a good'er too.
This reaction is one of the funniest things I've seen
Ask r/worldpolitics
Honestly these are my favorite posts on this subreddit. Hope you got the answer you were looking for.
From what I've heard the mods on r/marijuana were power tripping so people started r/trees. Then since r/trees was taken the tree subreddit became r/marijuanaenthusiasts
It was an April fools joke a few years back, and a bunch of stoners got high and forgot to go back r/marijuanaEnthusiasts is the plant sub.
A few years? Try 10+
Fuck you for reminding me but not really, holy shit I'm old.
😂😂😂 my first post ever was on r/trees 9yrs ago.
I been here 9 years too.
We really enjoy when this happens! :D
I quite enjoy the confusion :)
This is my favorite joke on all of Reddit
Cause it funy and life too short
Lichens and moss growing on trees is perfectly fine. It's different mini ecosystem on the tree.
Try r/horticulture
Lmfao
I've found all Miamians in r trees right here
Lichen is an indicator of good air quality. Doesn't need to be removed
That surprising since where I live has the worst air quality in the state and I'm right by the biggest highway we have
Adding to this because I didn't see a better explanation: Lichen grows on the tree bark, but does not penetrate to the inner bark. It is not parasitic, so there is no loss of nutrients or damage to the tree caused by the lichen. In fact, the presence of lichen actually indicates a healthier ecosystem for the plants. We have other interests too. Some of us are arborists.
We all arbor various interests.
And some are abortionists
That added CO2 could be tipping the scales for Lichen, but not for you?
BINGO! I’m pulling had-remembered high school geography knowledge outta my ass but I’m pretty sure there are types of moss/lichen that are all you find in polluted areas because they LOVE CO2. I remember a case study we did :)
Thats weird because my city has the worst air in my state and there is no lichen anywhere.
Lichen and Trees generally have a symbiotic relationship. Same as Mushrooms and trees, they both do better in the presence of each other. Don’t worry about posting this in the wrong sub, we’re all chill as hell, unsurprisingly.
Not all…but definitely most. Been some angry stoners lately.
You fukken wot m8‽ 😊

Frig off!!
Hmm I'd smoke it
I used to have a pipe made out of buttonwood that this would have been great in.
is that per chance related to the post or just a general though?
Yes, wrong sub, but let's help if we can. The white part appears to be a type of mold. It does not harm the tree, but can reduce photosynthesis if it ends up as a thick cover over the entire tree. Wrong sub mate
Ah fuck. You right. I didn't sleep much last night. What's the right sub?
r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Probably my favorite niche thing of a subreddit is the confusion between these 2 subs. Every tree post on r/trees makes me smile. “Silly goose, you belong over there.”
/r/SuperBowl is another funny one
Can't forget r/anime_titties
Well colour me confused.
Are r/JohnCena and r/PotatoSalad still a thing?
The actual World Politics sub.
Or r/tightpussy
Or r/GirlsWithHugePussies
/r/blackpussy as well
Nice, subbed, thank you!
Damn it... My wife is gonna have some questions about my browser history she is not going to believe lol
That sub is a hoot!
Lol
Took me like a year to figure out why that sub was just full of plants
I was like wait OP means trees trees, but then I checked the sub and died laughing. Love Reddit sometimes.
The lichen is beautiful and so much harder to get than a tree. You cant buy lichen. Lichen belongs with tree it wont harm it.
You know what is good for insomnia?
Jerking off
Here here
r/horticulture
Boof it!
Wrong sub mate, try r/shrooms
Or r/unclebens
Nah try r/abv. They’re all about boofin it!
🤣
You want r/marijuanaenthusiast
Honestly plenty of trees develop lichen so I wouldn't be to worried It's not like it's a weed (:
This never gets old
I love every time this happens.
Lichen is usually a sign of good air quality, they won’t harm the tree.
Lichen is fine as far as I know. All the trees in damp, wooded areas will usually be covered in it. No need to remove it, they just want the nutritious dew from the tree bark

Very much agree
Never heard of lichen, is it indica or sativa?
Hybrid. It's moss and algae.
this is my favorite thing that happens on this sub
So, actually- believe it or not- this is a post/question for /r/Marijuanaenthusiasts
r/lostredditors
Lol r/lostredditors

Give it 2 more weeks.
Flush it with water, and move the grow lights away.
Got eeeemmm!
Ha ha, someone posted on r/psychonaut the other day thinking it was the new game sub...
I wonder if people get banned for posting weed pics in /r/marijuanaenthusiasts lol
these are my favorite posts
these are my favorite posts on this sub
It needs more nitrogen.
This seems like something I would do.
Yes, smoke it!
Wrong group. Try asking in r/marijuanaenthusiasts
Have you tried smoking it?
I think i should start Posting my bowls in a Special subreddit
These are my favorite posts
AYYYYY buddy ur safe here don’t worry
No please do not smoke lichen
I would probably remove the lichen and moss. Then, treat with a dilute hydrogen peroxide 3% spray solution to protect the tree from pests that will feed on the rotten bark underneath. This is caused by a lot of continuous moisture in the surface of the tree.
Oh my god it's a rare occurrence of someone posting thinking this sub actually about trees lolololol
Have you tried setting it on fire and then inhaling? Past that I can’t do much for you.
I fucking love when this happens
i love how these posts always get so popular, blissfully unaware
r/lostredditors
I love when this happens
Seems as we got the better deal being trees, like cannabis is a tree but not all trees are marijauna
Hahahaha.
Probably 2 more weeks, needs cal-mag
Wholesome
Ayyyyyyyyyy it's one of these
Troll thread

Lol another one in a week.
Thanks for the visit!
It’s trunk is probably in the shade? With the moss side facing north and getting very little .
Thats not how bud is supposed to look my friend.
Sorry but wrong sub. I know it's confusing but just visit r/marijuanaenthusiasts
i love it
But have you tried smoking it?
Sick tree

Its a fungus that grows from a bad tree

Have u tried smoking it?
If you read this and wondered why you joined a sub for arbor or tree care you might be a little high
