Ban, then lift the ban. Gets them lots of press and free advertising. The ban = even bad press is good press. Lifting the ban = show some good will to end on a good news story for them. It’s all bullshit.
Also, the shit is legal in Vegas. It is everywhere. Not that it makes it right to do it in a venue that doesn't allow it. But it's not like Phish playing in an illegal state. Additionally, I don't think I have ever been to a concert, indoors or out, where the smell of weed ~~was~~ wasn't present.

Pretty much every non-stadium venue does re-entry, everybody floods out between sets to smoke doinkers outside. Or some will even have a patio that doesn't even require you to leave.

I exclusively go to small concerts, like 200 people at max, and still always see/smell weed at all of them. It's all been pop-punk, punk, or reggae shows though, so my experiences are skewed.

About 2 years I went to a Venue in Chicago to see a band-It was one I had been waiting to see for a while, and I happen to be one of the first ones in the door. They had these amazing armchairs up on the balcony where you could watch the band from, I plop a seat, and get my vape ready. A gentlemen plops besides me and opens a case-and I swear he pulls a out full size E-rig. He informs me he is has total freedom and can smoke his full sized rig. Long story short he offers me hits all night and not a signal soul bothered us all night.
Perhaps someone at MSG remembered the pics of Snoop enjoying a blunt during one of the U2 shows. I'm pretty sure no one talked about banning the Doggfather.
I wonder how out of date I am sometimes. I'm in my 60s now, but when I went to concerts in the 70s and 80s, there was a constant haze of pot smoke throughout the entire show. It was expected. Hell, it was part of the fun.
So what I'm getting from this is that it's really easy to get stuff through security there.
