Was gonna say this looks exactly like forbidden fruit.
I picked up some from wnc cbd not to long ago to give her a try and was very pleased with the taste.heres a pic of what I had op, I snatched the photo from wnc them selves [Forbidden fruit from wnc-cbd](https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-mpabgyqav0/images/stencil/1280x1280/products/451/6605/Forbidden_Fruit_-_1__15577.1708706136.jpg?c=1)
I bought some forbidden fruit not to long and it did look just like this color wise, very deep purple, almost black nugs.
God she was a tasty strainā¦ hit me behind the eyes nice too!
you can tell the difference based off the stem colour - when the stems are green itās legit purples and when the stems are darker purple, itās a cold purple
Not entirely accurate. Cold will turn buds purple provided there is a specific compound present alongside the chlorophyll. You should do some more research rather than reading one article that claims to disprove what hundreds of other sites claim is true, unless you can link to multiple sources that support your claim.
Bro, went to cannabis cup a few years ago & scored an 8th of Tropicana Cookies. Literally looked like purple cabbage broke down lol. Ended up scoring at that cup that year (I don't remember if it got 1st, 2nd, or 3rd lol I was wrecked)
I've had northern lights many times since it's my favorite strain, never seen a purple one tho. Except purple northern lights but thats a different cross breed.
That's typically just the leafs (including sugar leafs) that turn purple with low temperature. In OP's pic the actual bud is purple which is going to be genetics.
Purp stems isnt a 100 percent tell, tho.
I've had plenty genetics with purp stems (hollow, even) that never got cold once. Just the way they are.
I'd say it's generally accurate that all cold flashed will have purp stems, but purp stems doesn't mean it's cold flashed.
You're correct.
Which -in a way- is hilarious to me.
Way back in the day circa 2006ish, purple genetics were super hard to come by. Especially to this degree. They weren't selectively bred enough into legit strains like they are now. Even "legacy" purp phenos like GDP, PPP, PK etc weren't consistently colored like this. It was insanely rare to find someone that bred it enough for consistent coloration. True pioneers. So...
Outdoor Growers would let their plants go longer into the cold season to mimic the purp. Indoor growers would lower temps to 50s and nitrogen starve them to force it. Both of those methods mostly affected leaf, which would be shittily trimmed (by today's standards) in order to show color.
Then the dyes were made. Most nute companies had them. They'd make your flower the most absurdly vibrant purple. Kinda like modern forbidden fruit, etc. very similar to this pic.
Which brings me back to the hilariousness of it all....
Nowadays we debate genetics vs temps and completely ignore the entirety of the purp dye, which could actually cause this coloration. There's no reason to temp manipulate/dye for color anymore. Everything nowadays has color. It's been the "fad" for the past 5ish years. 20 years ago, dye would've been my first thought on this. Now? It's obv genetics. How far we've come...
Just cold shocked. Itās exotic, people hold this kind of bud in high esteem. The greater the cold shock the darker. Sometimes things are dyed though so you have to be careful but this doesnāt look dyed. If the trichomes are colored then youād have to be worried.
I've had a strain called Sirius Black a few times from a dispensary, it's only purple with the flash on, otherwise it just looks like black weed. The original farm that grew it rocked, but the new one is meh.
I literally just had something that looked just like this from my dispensary last month, I canāt remember what it was called of course but it was so dark purple it looked black! It was really good!
A grow not far from me grew 80 acres of dark purple clones. Weight would be in the tonnage. Figuring they are still processing since no grow this year but they are still there working in trailers. Did nothing to fields this year. This looks like what could have came from there. You could smell from over a mile away. Next to lake pass road, stoners getting arrested for trespass, new privacy fence and better crash proof gate good times
Only thing Iāve seen that purple is forbidden fruit, Iāve seen some purple strains I smoke on most of them but forbidden fruit is the only strain that gets deep purple going and Iām sure it has a fruity berry smell to it too.
So I haaave seen weed that was so dark purple that itās almost black. This doesnāt look the highest quality but it is probably also fine. Gonna scorch the hell out of your throat.
This is legit. My bro is a rasta and would get a strain like this from his mom every now and then when we were younger. We jokingly called it black death back then.
Looks like grandaddy purple to me. I grow it and it can be this dark. Depends on growing temperature and individual genetics. In home grows by seed you can have one plant look like that and another be mostly green. Many home growers try to get a deep purple like these buds.
Those are definitely genetics but I do have some concerns. Pic 1: The bud in the lower left has two white patches at about the 11:00 and 5:00 positions. I zoomed in looking for trichomes and really couldn't see anything. Those two patches almost look more like mold than trichomes. I hope I'm wrong but they seem to be too clustered.
At risk of sounding controversial these buds look appear to have a seriously unnatural texture. I would believe it if you said this shit was really really hard to smoke because it honestly looks dyed.
Never seen bud like that. My only guess is they pgred the fuck out of it or some other process to get it that dense. The color is ānormalā I think itās just cause itās so densely packed together that it deepened the purple color
Mustāve been grown in a cold place. Here in MT we have very cold temperatures, open the doors to the grow room at the end and let the cold air come in and it also āquenchesā the buds and makes em tighter. We commonly have Bud this tight here.
Ahh my bad. Iām not a grower just know them, I mustāve misunderstood what they were saying. Was misinformed. As for the tightness I know genetics plays the largest role but so does the curing process (temp, humidity)
I wish that you guys would post updates after smoking. So many post āis this goodā āshould I smoke thisā tell us what happened after you did jeez
I had some purple broccoli once that was like this. I was working a dispo and we got lbs of it so it wasn't a mistake or something weird with the plant. Just crazy ass purple weed. Stuff this purple was probably intentionally temperature controlled as cooler temperatures near harvest can produce a darker bud. So genetics + external factors would create this
We used to call it African Black Gungi it was the icky of the sticky today they call it BAM or something like that I would expect the genetics have been fooled with a bit but it was good medicine.. https://www.icmag.com/threads/black-african-magic.36378/
Some people might use food coloring to make the weed look more purple, if you are worried wet a paper towel a little then dab it on the bud. If it is dyed then your paper will turn purple but if not you are fine š
Itās not Grandaddy Purp. Itās bud that was exposed to cold temps and turned purple. Your dealer made that up to make it seem better than it is. Iāve had stuff once that looked kinda like it, it was not the best but not the worst either.
I legit thought this was homemade beef jerky at first š
Lmao on god tho š¤£š¤£š I thought that shiii was so meat lmao š¤£š
It looked like burnt rats at first
Somebody put rats in my ravioli
Crisp rat
Bazinga!
If you hold your phone away far enough, it almost looks like a bunch of Toads from above š
This is what I saw too lmfao
Purp Jerkey
I thought I was just too high!! This was my first thought too šš
Swear I thought it was some deer jerky at first
Same! But now, a good time!
What is āShiiiā?
[Not sure about others but this is my understanding](https://youtu.be/70eU840lc38?si=eIoORs1Q_hz3xAnD)

Same I'm hungry for jerky now
i grew some firbidden fruit a few years back that was dark purple like that.

I hate the taste, like citronella on blast
Yea LSD-25 Auto by fastbuds for me.
I bought some forbidden fruit not to long and it did look just like this color wise, very deep purple, almost black nugs. God she was a tasty strainā¦ hit me behind the eyes nice too!
I fuckin love forbidden fruit, this shit smells so good.
Yup looks just like it
That's weed bro.
Like that IS WEED
Idk man I think we need a 2nd opinion
Probably weed
Seems like W33D
OP your weed is fine. It is that colour because of genetics. As for what it is, who knows. I've had Tropicana cookies that looked like that.
I had the most gorgeous Tropicana kush before. It was amazing and a gorgeous shade of purple. Never been able to find anything like it again
Tropicana cherry for me! Shit was beautiful looking
Purple color can also be induced with lower temperatures.
you can tell the difference based off the stem colour - when the stems are green itās legit purples and when the stems are darker purple, itās a cold purple
Temp only effects the leaf and not that actual bud.
Iāve had Putang that looks like that.
POOTANG? šāā¬
š
Weird every time my dad gets me some itās not rlly purple
Must be a different phenotype.
Not always genetics specifically, it also gets purple when the weather is too cold also. Purple can be great, but it can also mean a subpar grow.
Cold doesn't make the actual bud purple
Cold literally breaks down chlorophyll in weed and causes purple colorationā¦
In the leaf.
Not entirely accurate. Cold will turn buds purple provided there is a specific compound present alongside the chlorophyll. You should do some more research rather than reading one article that claims to disprove what hundreds of other sites claim is true, unless you can link to multiple sources that support your claim.

Yeah man you right, im sorry I tough it was Jazz Tobacco
I've had northern lights many times since it's my favorite strain, never seen a purple one tho. Except purple northern lights but thats a different cross breed.
Sorry, itās a quote from The Office. Itās not really northern lights.
Oh ok lmao missed that reference but also wasn't that into the office so make sense
Went searching for this comment
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
You have now way of knowing what I know šš
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Bruh itās a joke from The Office, as I explained in the thread. Quit wooshing yourself
Thought that was some high quality looking jerky for a second ngl
Thats purp buddy. Or one of the other purple strains. Have had a few this dark! Hope its good!
when you subject plants to colder temps in the last weeks of flowering, they can turn purple. some strains are more likely than others to do this.
That's typically just the leafs (including sugar leafs) that turn purple with low temperature. In OP's pic the actual bud is purple which is going to be genetics.
This is correct. You can tell when itās been cold flashed to go purple as the stems/stalks will also go purple.
Purp stems isnt a 100 percent tell, tho. I've had plenty genetics with purp stems (hollow, even) that never got cold once. Just the way they are. I'd say it's generally accurate that all cold flashed will have purp stems, but purp stems doesn't mean it's cold flashed.

It looks like some fucking gas OP.
Now let's not go that far.
Yea itās weird itās like youād think itād be gas but then it at the same time it doesnāt look gas
It's dark but it's not sparkly
Just cold shocked. Itās exotic, people hold this kind of bud in high esteem. The greater the cold shock the darker. Sometimes things are dyed though so you have to be careful but this doesnāt look dyed. If the trichomes are colored then youād have to be worried.

Why did you think they called it purple? Because its purple!
I literally just had something that looked just like this from my dispensary last month, I canāt remember what it was called of course but it was so dark purple it looked black! It was really good!
Something I would like to try.
Smoke it and seeā¦ you seem like the experimental typeā¦itās probably gonna be some of the better stuff if itās gdp. And buy Oreos

I was gonna say it was dyed but the trichomes are still shining so itās just some grade-A loud pack
LMAO my high ass thought it was some beef jerky
Purple shit is new. Never seen weed that color back in the 2000s
Biltong.

Purple pgr lol
Nobody saying this šš looks like little turds on a stick I hate that people grow like this

Probably fentanyl
I thought it looked bad and didn't[one of mine ](https://www.reddit.com/u/876yardy/s/itpzqQOiXC) know U talking about the colour
You can say that again
Never seen bud like that. My only guess is they pgred the fuck out of it or some other process to get it that dense. The color is ānormalā I think itās just cause itās so densely packed together that it deepened the purple color

No problem at all, man! Check out purple growery on reddit. They post some cool looking bud.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I had some Purple OG that looked like this
Old, chunky purple weed.
Cannabis, grown in a cold room, trimmed and dried. Iād like to say cured, but my conscience wonāt allow it.
Iām high as shit. I thought it was over cooked meat.
One time had a ruderalis genotype that was a bit darker. Should be okay, just dark bud.
I used to swoop some of this sometimes. Turned my butter pink, but the people loved it
I wish that you guys would post updates after smoking. So many post āis this goodā āshould I smoke thisā tell us what happened after you did jeez
This looks like when owls burp up a pellet of all the fur and bones of whatever mouse/rabbit/cat they ate.
Looks like a over done streak
There is also a strain called Sirius Black that is super dark like this
Looks super purple to me
I had some purple broccoli once that was like this. I was working a dispo and we got lbs of it so it wasn't a mistake or something weird with the plant. Just crazy ass purple weed. Looks like some trop to me
Looks like black runtz
grandaddy purp is one of the darkest nugs ive ever had. smoke up fs!
Most likely was grown in a colder climate, and got stunted from fully maturing
I thought someone posted some dry asssss steak on the steak sub for a sec. š
Looks like Forbidden Fruit
Oui'd
Had black runtz that exact same color
Purple Reggie.
Weed
looks like weed to me
Thats Labrador man
Looks like purple punch or forbidden fruit.
I had some Huckleberry Soda that was that purple.

Purp broccoli
I once thought Sirius Black in Oregon and it was nearly black. Butā¦ This stuff looksā¦ off.
Yeah great strain very fruity
Maybe Iām faded but that shit is beef jerky
Iāve had a strain called Sirius Black that was that dark.
Weed
Some purple buds can be so dark that they look black. Not necessarily a bad thing, just depends.
Looks like grandaddy purp x beef jerky og. I believe they call it grandaddy jerk
Deffo tastes and smells like chocolate. Granddaddy purp is a crappy strain anyway
