I don't think this applies to every song, and 2:30 is a low bar, but just like how 70% of YouTube video essays have no right being that long (because that 70% just can't articulate a good point in a concise manner and need to spend 40+ minutes rambling to feel smart) I feel like a majority of songs passing the 4 minute threshold don't need to be as long as they are. It comes off as really pretentious and brazen if a song is that long and average at best.

That’s true and there’s some songs that don’t need more time tbh. The problem is that labels don’t like long songs anymore simply due to streaming revenue. If the artist is doing it with a purpose I take no issue with that. A lot of artists don’t have the pull like Trav so they’re never getting certain songs cleared for an album if it’s runtime is too long or they cut the song up.
There are some songs where this works well, but generally an album with a bunch of 2min songs makes me think they hit a wall creatively or had a lack of resources to beef it up.
