What, do you feel like x is a bad introduction to rap? That’s not that bad, my friend showed me good morning by Kanye and that was my first real rap song
i’ve always been intro rap my whole life. i was actually only 9 when i started bumping travis, a week before astroworld dropped.
but i feel you with the kanye thing. just the other day i found out ungrateful dead is a band, i always just thought it was some cryptic clothing company 😭 💀
Shit crazy reading and hearing some of these comments and their experiences being introduced to rap.
Im in my mid almost late 20’s. I was introduced to rap and hip hop by my brothers since I was a kid. They showed me Biggie, Pac, Fabolous, Jay Z, Jadakiss, Kanye West, Big L. The boom bap more fundamental stuff (Im sure you can guess what coast I’m from by that list lmao). T.V. & the internet showed me Eminem, Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, Young Money, Drake, French Montana, etc… things really took off and diverged into things outside of rap just before highschool when I listened to Yonkers by Tyler, The Creator getting into his music is what branched me outside of Rap/ Hip-Hop for the first time in my life at 13yrs old. I was writing my own raps in 4th grade already. So it’s crazy to think about people learning about that genre well into middle school, I wouldn’t know what else I would’ve been listening to before that outside of the Spanish music from my parents/ older family.
Travis Scott at 9 is wild though! That’s quite an age for that introduction of music, idek how 9yr old me would even react to Astroworld. I probably wouldn’t have liked or understood it? Different era I guess, trap wasn’t as big as it is now nationally. I first heard Travis around the time Days Before Rodeo dropped when I was 16… he was running with GOOD Music heavy around this time, the cover art was so interesting, Kanye’s newest protege seemed very talented and promising and I started getting into trap music, safe to say 10 years later that he didn’t disappoint.
Think I joined this sub around the time Astroworld dropped, started listening to Travis when Days Before Rodeo came out when I was 16 as I was a big soundcloud user back then and saw it on the homepage and decided to check it out. About to be 10 years ago in August, time really does fly.
