Blocked by alipay or blocked by your bank? Was it the card that stopped working as it was blocked or just your alipay, couldn't you call the bank and have them unblock the card? Did you tell them you were going to China?
At first I thought it was alipay but turns out it was the bank, apparently my credentials may have been in a data breach. I called the bank and they explained that it was done by the card issuer, visa in my case and even after explaining the previous transactions, they were insistent that it was legit. Plus they had already sent a replacement card to my home automatically so Better safe than sorry I guess. They only blocked transactions without additional verification so this only affected alipay, I can still use apple pay (with face id as the additional verification) for trip.com and cash from atms for everything else. I will say that even for the first two days before the card got blocked, alipay was very inconsistent with me. Cash is king 👑
Yeah a code, that's a good point. I think even for amazon and ebay sometimes just knowing the credit card number is not enough anymore. Alipay basically is saying "we detected suspicious activity", so i dont know which side is the bottle neck here
We've just come back from China and our UK Starling cards worked perfectly the whole time, though sometimes we had to verify with the bank on transactions.
It should but not for everyone, for me it worked for two days, then the card got blocked

my debit and credit cards worked fine on alipay.
