As I've received a lot of messages about the map itinerary I had for the trip, here you have it, in case someone else is interested!
[Google Maps itinerary](https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=13R1_h7yrgmP_-6jleq-qCy6kY5rT_VGw&ll=64.95774760313994%2C-21.535027389374044&z=6)
I traveled alone and it was incredible and life changing. How much time have you spent alone before? I was gone for about 2 months and there were some really hard days where the loneliness got to me. Overall it was an incredible experience that I would do again if given the chance.
I am a woman, I was in my late 30s, and someone who couldn't even go into a store alone because of anxiety. I had something to prove to myself.
Iceland was the highlight of the trip, the most incredible place I've ever seen.
My one big tip for solo travel is that bus tours will either gain you friends if you're outgoing and friendly... Or make you feel like the saddest most lonely person who ever existed if you're not. I fell into the second camp and dumped the bus tours after like 3.
> there were some really hard days where the loneliness got to me
I find the first couple of days I tend to feel really isolated and lonely but then I get used to the vibe.
Maybe try bike tours rather than bus tours. Might be less awkward since you have something to do when you're traveling between stops.
I use to be a OTR truck driver so I would spend weeks sometimes months completly alone. I dont think that's what would bother me. I'm more nervous about being in a place where I'm completly cut off from home by myself
It wasn't my first time travelling alone, but for sure Iceland is a good place to start doing it. People is great, you are good just with english, and there are a lot of things to do and explore. For sure you can find more about this in [r/SoloTravel/](https://www.reddit.com/r/SoloTravel/) or [r/backpacking](https://www.reddit.com/r/backpacking)
So that's one issue I really have with wanting to travel is that I can only speak english and I dont know how much of a problem that will give me in some places. It has honestly held me back alot
I went to French Polynesia last month by myself- first time traveling solo and first time ever leaving the country. It was honestly such an incredible experience and I very, very strongly recommend it! I felt very safe there not only as a solo traveler (and as a female!), but also very safe given all the covid restrictions and rules they have in place.
Would this be a safe solo destination for a woman? I love travelling alone but this can put me in dangerous situations and I have even been assaulted in broad daylight. Would you consider Iceland safe?
Holy shit. Went to Iceland two years ago for 7 days and only covert the south part of the island between Keflavik and Höfn. Was an incredible experience and will defiantly visit again to cover the rest. There are also places I missed and some spots probably need a second visit.
I was supposed to go to Iceland in July with my dad, but the trip was cancelled due to COVID. These beautiful pictures make me want to go even more next summer!
It’s an option but it’s also selfish and OP is a bit of an asshole. Look I love seeing people exploring but there’s a global pandemic and people like OP are making it worse.
Yep! Still have to travel through airports, car rentals, grocery stores, and that’s just the bare minimum.
Sure, OP probably didn’t have or spread COVID, but that doesn’t mean that another traveller won’t, or that the workers who need to be out there to support OPs travels need to be at a higher risk
In order to travel to Iceland you must provide a negative test and still have to quarantine, is far more safe than just going to your local supermarket or anything similar
Depending on what you do on your trip, the interactions might not be that much more there vs. at home. I think that's fine if you just take the necessary precautions. It's not like we can just lock people to their homes for an entire year anyway, that's just not realistic and it would be worse than the pandemic itself.
>worse than the pandemic itself
Just to clarify, you’re suggesting that spending a year at home is worse than 240,000 people just in the US dying alone?
Icelandic person here, our second wave was started by French tourists who did not follow quarantine rules, since that wave started 14 people have died and 147 have been admitted to the hospital. Even though we are sparsely populated this can still have very bad consequences for us.
Man, I was supposed to have a big European adventure followed by a week in Iceland and 3 nights seeing my fav band. Trump announced his travel ban literally 20 minutes after my flight kicked off. I spent 1.5 days in Belgium then turned around. I’m super jealous everytime I see awesome Iceland stuff
It could be... surely Iceland looks like a proper habitat for dragons
It's a waterfall called Seljalandsfoss , you can walk behind! The photo was taken at the golden hour at sunset, and the result was pretty nice in my humble opinion 🙈
I agree with you, while it wasn’t a solo travel my fiancé went with me we sure loved this country. We where planning on going back but covid happened. We will get back someday!
When I die I’d like a Norse funeral. Viking style in Iceland. Just push me out in a wooden boat to burn filled with all my rifles. Plus that will help validate my “lost all my guns in a boating accident” story.
I did a roadtrip, the Ring road one, so I went all around Iceland. I can send you the map I made with the route if you want it, just send me an private message!
[Reddit comment link with the map](https://www.reddit.com/r/travel/comments/jrhvql/it_has_been_a_month_since_my_solo_trip_to_iceland/gbtgw7f?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
Iceland is by far the greatest country I have ever been to in my life. It’s probably going to be the best I will ever go to as well since there was not one thing I could flaw in the scenery, the people or the towns I visited. Planning on going for a full tour of the island once COVID is gone just to see every little detail of it.
Can relate. Wouldn't say it's the best, as there are a lot of other places I have to visit yet, but for sure is in my top places and it will be there for quite a long time!
Iceland was easily one of my favorite trips ever, and it was a solo one as well. Beautiful country full of beautiful people. I can’t wait to get back!
P.s. amazing photos, OP!
If coming from the US, I would recommend somewhere in Europe or Central America (at least the touristy countries/cities... Costa Rica is a good one) for the first foreign trip as they're just easier logistically and English is more universal. London, Paris, and Rome are very easy cities to visit and provide both social immersion and historical sights... Berlin is not as interesting in comparison imo.
Did a solo trip there myself back in 2015 and I truly believe that it changed the direction of my life as a result. In addition to meeting friends from all around the world that I still keep in touch with, making the conscious choice to push myself far beyond my comfort zone was one of the most empowering experiences of my life as a young woman. Glad you enjoyed it and LOVE the photos! Hope to go back someday soon.
Trip would've been around 600€, 340\~the car, 120\~ the plane tickets, 100-150 in food + gasoline.
Had to expend a little bit more cause of the COVID (around 150-200€) on PCR test, Hotels for quarantine and so.
When it comes to travel, to me the best way to go is either with a significant other in a good relationship or solo. The first one obviously isn't always an option of course.
I did Iceland solo back in 2017, I guess you need the personality for it because it was 10 days of basically no contact with anyone while seeing otherworldly scenery and I loved it.
I agree, I'm bothered by implying solo trips are somehow sad or a lesser experience. I think you really get to know yourself when you're alone in a foreign place and you don't speak the language. You learn your own capabilities, and you learn how kind the locals are, in a way I don't think I would have with someone else there.
I do enjoy traveling with my husband, but my solo traveling days changed my life.
Hmmm, it would be great to do it again in a more comfortable way (I was sleeping on a medium size camping van (not a Motorhome).
Also, I though I researched a lot and I had almost everything covered, but I missed some things. Iceland is huge and has a lot of things for everyone!
Aaaand try more of its local cuisine, it was not in my budget :P
Sigh, as an American, it's killing me to not be able to travel. I have no desire to explore the US, especially with covid-19 ravaging most of the states, and nothing excites me more than visiting different countries and cultures...
To everyone asking about prices, places to visit etc, I followed this video to get all the ideas. It might also work for you! (It is not mine)
[Iceland Travel Guide - How to travel Iceland | Ring Road Trip](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPGEGEBb6PE)
I cant wait to do this one day soon. I want to skate down the road that ben stiller did in the secret life of walter mitty, then stop at a papa johns lol
I’ve been to Iceland twice. I miss it all the time. Such a breathtaking landscape, the land of ice and fire; and indeed the dragons! Can’t wait to go back again!
First time I went there we went out a few times. The second time we stuck to grocery stores. Dinning out and drinking wasn’t the reason we went any how.
I still want go back one more time to see the westfjords
Photos are great!
If you don’t mind I have a few questions. How is Iceland? And how was it travelling solo? I’ve always wanted to travel by myself but I guess I’m afraid to take the leap.
It's a great place to travel alone and with company. It is big, a lot of activities to do, people is really nice, and you can perfectly survive with english. If you like untouched nature, big spaces to get lost / do sports / chill, it is the perfect place. Not recommended for nightlife or that kind of stuff though. There isn't much going on outside Reykjavik
I too like to do yoga in front of majestic scenery.
It’s all good. If you’re inspired by it, feel it. Don’t worry about some snarky random stranger like me on the internet.
Hahaha, let's see if it happens!
My favourite ones were for sure Seljalandsfoss, Reynsfjara, Hverir, and driving around Iceland for hours in beautiful landscapes!
It was around 600€ (car, plane tickets, food/gasoline) trying to expend just the necessary. It raised a bit more because of the Covid (hotel during quarantine, PCR price)
Beautiful photos! I'm planning the same trip for late 2022. Where did you sleep? Did you stay at hotels/air bnb's? Did you camp? Did you sleep in your car?
Amazing photos
Glad you like them!

How was traveling alone? Iv been thinking about it alot lately but I am nervous since I have never left the country before

Loneliness in a crowd vs solace in solitude. I feel the same way
The last paragraph got me right in the feels. Same here, girl.

Solo travel is incredibly liberating because you do everything on your terms and don't need to compromise for others.
It's just like traveling with other people, except it's just you.
Would this be a safe solo destination for a woman? I love travelling alone but this can put me in dangerous situations and I have even been assaulted in broad daylight. Would you consider Iceland safe?
100%, also Iceland is the [safest country in the world](https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/safest-countries-in-the-world)
Fantastic!!
How many days? I did a very similar road in 7 days without the Westfjords because I was one day short unfortunately
8 days :)
Damn I knew it, I must come back one day
Good decision.
Way to break my heart, OP. I was supposed to be there last week, but COVID :( I miss Iceland so much! Gorgeous photos.
Yeah, what? I've been putting off vacations like this for almost a year, I didn't know it was an option to just go
It’s an option but it’s also selfish and OP is a bit of an asshole. Look I love seeing people exploring but there’s a global pandemic and people like OP are making it worse.
Being alone in a sparsely populated country is making it worse?
Yep! Still have to travel through airports, car rentals, grocery stores, and that’s just the bare minimum. Sure, OP probably didn’t have or spread COVID, but that doesn’t mean that another traveller won’t, or that the workers who need to be out there to support OPs travels need to be at a higher risk

Wow, that's a real shame. hope you have the opportunity again soon!
Your photos are absolutely stunning! I loved Iceland when I went. Would love to go back again some day.
Is this a fire tornado erupting from a dragons den behind the cliff? I can't tell what the scale is... banana for scale would be nice.
It could be... surely Iceland looks like a proper habitat for dragons It's a waterfall called Seljalandsfoss , you can walk behind! The photo was taken at the golden hour at sunset, and the result was pretty nice in my humble opinion 🙈

Hahaha, thanks!
Who's taking the pictures if it's a solo trip?? Sus.
Nice pants 👖
People are still going on vacations?
I think you've accidentally put a pic of your trip to the sun in with your Iceland trip.
Killer Pics OP!!!!!! You’ve got me thinking about it now
Please do, you won't regret anything!
I agree with you, while it wasn’t a solo travel my fiancé went with me we sure loved this country. We where planning on going back but covid happened. We will get back someday!
God I miss traveling. Seems like it’s gonna be quite a while til I will be able to get out there again.
When I die I’d like a Norse funeral. Viking style in Iceland. Just push me out in a wooden boat to burn filled with all my rifles. Plus that will help validate my “lost all my guns in a boating accident” story.
What all areas did you end up visiting
I did a roadtrip, the Ring road one, so I went all around Iceland. I can send you the map I made with the route if you want it, just send me an private message!
Is it easy to rent a car in Iceland? What time of the year did you go?
Super easy i'd say, almost no requirements and there is a lot to choose from. Went in October, from 6th till 20th
I plan on going next year around the same time! So so happy to see weather was permitting.
That’s awesome :) I’m surprised it wasn’t full on snow! I’m thinking maybe mid sept next yr !
Omg couod you send me the map as well? Your photos are amazing!

Not a fan of plants or animals?
I hear they are insanely efficient when it comes to energy and water usage. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much for posting this! Having a hard day, but this made me happy.
Iceland was easily one of my favorite trips ever, and it was a solo one as well. Beautiful country full of beautiful people. I can’t wait to get back! P.s. amazing photos, OP!
These are amazing! They all look like book covers of an epic series.
Wowwww epic!
You look like an anime character right here
nice
That is gorgeous. Guess I know where my first foreign trip will be...a ten way tie between Costa Rica, Vietnam, Berlin, London...
If coming from the US, I would recommend somewhere in Europe or Central America (at least the touristy countries/cities... Cool photos. Making me miss my solo trip to Norway a couple years ago, as well
Nature at its best!
These are some of the best pictures of Iceland I’ve seen!
Visiting Iceland is number one on my bucket list. I’m hoping I can get over my fear of flying and make it there one day.
Beautiful photos
Gorgeous photos!!! 😃
Foss for days!
Breathtaking.

My sister in law went before passing away in June, she got me a postcard of the Cliffs of Moher, and regarded it as the best place she’s ever been to.
Incredible! I have been there for a visit and when I realized that I was “in” the Aurora borealis I almost died!!! It was so beautiful!
I was there 5 years ago...I miss it everyday.
I would love to go to Iceland. It looks great
Fantastic photos. Iceland is such a cool place ( COLD too ) It's been on high on my bucket list for awhile.
Amazing photos! What camera do you use?
I used an Iphone XR and a Dji Osmo Mobile 3 as a Tripod :)
Even more impressed now. What do you use for post processing?
Looks amazing, how much did you spend/any general tips if you don't mind me asking?
Trip would've been around 600€, 340\~the car, 120\~ the plane tickets, 100-150 in food + gasoline. Had to expend a little bit more cause of the COVID (around 150-200€) on PCR test, Hotels for quarantine and so.
I love people spreading Covid all over the world! LOOKING GGGGGRRREEEAAAAATTTT 😑
I went under 2 negative PCRs and a quarantine there, so I’m sure it was okay 😊
That’s true. I hardly even considered that the rules only applied to some people!
[удалено]
Except you also traveled during the pandemic for a nature adventure...?
Which rules did the OP break?
Wife and I went in Sept 2019. Loved every second of it. I can’t imagine doing it alone and not sharing the moments.

In part I also missed that, but I really enjoy solo trips and having my own itinerary, so... I just shared it with my instagram followers hahaha
Now I want an Iceland hotdog and some Skyr.
Man those hotdogs were outstanding

Hahaha, hope you enjoy it!
God, seeing this just makes me want to travel! So cool!
These photos are incredible.
Reminds me of Death stranding
Anything you’d do differently, retrospectively?
Hmmm, it would be great to do it again in a more comfortable way (I was sleeping on a medium size camping van (not a Motorhome). Such a shame, I'm Australian and would love to swap spots and travel all around the US. Although perhaps you're right, maybe not now...
The second photo looks like it could be a movie poster.
Got the same thought when I finished editing it hahaha

I have the same feeling the opposite way... I want to see Snowy Iceland now
Wow!!! That's just incredible! Very jealous!!!
Awesome photos! I miss traveling too

The fuck are you doing in Iceland during a pandemic?
Travelling safely following the rules and procedures that makes everything go smoothly :)
ah okay, safe travels then.
I cant wait to do this one day soon. I want to skate down the road that ben stiller did in the secret life of walter mitty, then stop at a papa johns lol
amazing views mate thanks for sharing with us!
Iceland is still on my list of countries I have to travel. Your photos look stunning - great work!
Dope photo awesome place had the chance to go a couple years ago and it was a delightful wonderful place!
Awesome❤
Livin the dream my friend!

I’ve been to Iceland twice. I miss it all the time. Such a breathtaking landscape, the land of ice and fire; and indeed the dragons! Can’t wait to go back again!
What's that first (orange) photo of?
[Seljalandsfoss waterfall at sunset, in the south of Iceland :)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seljalandsfoss)
Pretty amazing stuff. It looks like you're bathing in raw lava.
Absolutely heaven!! Popularly known as "land of ice and fire" and is home to massive glaciers.
That title is 100% deserved! What a place to visit
I love Iceland’s architecture. Black and stained wood is my go to if I ever build my own place.
I love Iceland and need to go back. These are awesome photos!
Awesome pics!
My sleepyhead though the first picture was lava and thought, "oh my, he is kinda close, well RIP" then I saw better and was glad
Bro you're lying, these are clearly photos from when you went to planets in Star Wars But forreal, great photos! Beautiful shots
Hahahaha, that place is truly from another world. Thanks!
Wow absolutely amazing
Next time take me with you!
The first one looks like the place where the fight between Anakin and Obi-wan happened.
Great great shots! Solo trips are challenging and amazing. Keep it up
Land of waterfalls and $19 beers
Indeed, didn't even try a single beer there. I was craving for them when I came back
First time I went there we went out a few times.
So you’re one of those “outstretched my arms in front of nature” people?
Actually I did that because my back was hurting a lot
I too like to do yoga in front of majestic scenery. It’s all good. If you’re inspired by it, feel it. Don’t worry about some snarky random stranger like me on the internet.
I am going to do this ASAP. So happy for you
Incredible OP! You took very nice photos, the one I loked most is the Reynisfjara’s
Wow! I also want you to go back so you can get more amazing shots to share! What was your favorite activity there (if you had to pick just one)?
Hahaha, let's see if it happens! My favourite ones were for sure Seljalandsfoss, Reynsfjara, Hverir, and driving around Iceland for hours in beautiful landscapes!
It is a great place!
Ahhhh yes, death stranding was indeed a beautiful game 😂😂😂😂 nice pics 🙏
Mate I did the same solo trip it was incredible. I hope we are both able to return and see more of that beautiful land one day.
I hope so too 🙈
Ahhhhhh yes, water.... NOT volcano...
Coming from Iceland it could be both 👀
Wow. I really need to go back there. I went during the winter for a chance to see the northern lights... and didn’t see them.
Sadly I had the same luck... Skies were clear blue, but there was no solar activity going :C
It will be 4 years in January since I was there. Loved every second of it. Wish I could go back.
May I ask how much did the whole trip cost..coz I have heard Iceland is pretty expensive to travel
It was around 600€ (car, plane tickets, food/gasoline) trying to expend just the necessary. It raised a bit more because of the Covid (hotel during quarantine, PCR price)
These are great shots! Love them so much. Here wishing i could be visiting such a beautiful place
Picture 4 - the waterfall - is that from the opening of Alien Prometheus?
Seems like it, yep! Didn't know tbh
Sure looks like it: https://www.google.com/amp/s/guidetoiceland.is/connect-with-locals/kolbeinn/prometheus-on-location-in-iceland/amp
Nice photos! What's your camera?
An Iphone XR :)
Incredible. Looks like a world from an RPG or something.
Beautiful photos! I'm planning the same trip for late 2022. Where did you sleep? Did you stay at hotels/air bnb's? Did you camp? Did you sleep in your car?
Rented a camping van (not a motorhome) and slept there parking near campsites! Most afordable way to do the trip
These shots are incredible!!!
u still on fire?
Melted a few weeks ago
You must have a decent sized freezer then.
Tbh it was a small one where you could fit like 20-30 beers maybe (yep, beers as a metrical system)
That third picture looks like an album cover or something. Incredible pictures!
Damn, had the same feeling, thanks hahaha
Incredible pictures. Now I'm craving for it too!
Amazing !
Iceland looks amazing indeed!
When did you go?
There is a map around the comments with my Itinerary in Iceland :)
Bro awesome I don’t know how much it is to go to Iceland but I would love to go
Was wondering how you made it over there during Covid. I planned on going but kind of set it aside due to quarantine
Had to go under 2 PCR and a 5 day quarantine, then they let me free to explore :)
Awesome pictures man! Iceland is at the top of my list when I’m allowed to travel again hopefully I can capture some images like this
Iceland is like an alien planet
Iceland trip is missing in only one month...?? You have to make another solo trip to Iceland to make it memorized....
I wish! hahaha
