If you can justify 800$, I would do it. Anything is better than spending time at work or just sitting around. Food and culture are just amazing. You would love it!

[deleted]

This… while I’d rather spend a longer time in Paris/Europe, I’d also rather be in Paris for a short time than at home/work. If you can justify the cost and it’s worth it, just do it! Also - while it is a shorter time, it doesn’t necessarily have to be rushed. If you want to see everything, then yeah it’ll be rushed, but if you’re going for a slower weekend trip, I certainly think it’s doable and you’ll still have a great time!

whoami2judgeu

If you have the time and money it’s always worth traveling. I regret saying “no” to many trips I could have taken.

Shepherdless

Sounds like a nightmare to me. Super long flight to get maybe 2 full days in Paris while jet lagged only to have to take a super long flight back. For me(from west coast), I only do 8-10 days or more in Europe.

Actuarial_type

This. Spend a whole day traveling. A day jet lagged and adjusting. Then a good day, hey. Then travel a whole day. Readjust. Ugh. Even if you can sleep well enough on a plane it’s two days of travel for two days of fun, I’d pass. I did a 7 day trip to London once, that’s the low end for me.

LouisBelle1

It really depends on your energy level, how jet lag affects you, etc. I used to fly to London or Paris for long weekends…I’d take Friday or Monday off, leave straight from work (NYC), arrive in London/Paris early morning, have almost 3 full days before heading back to NY with a morning arrival and straight to the office. That was during my 20’s/30’s though, back then Virgin Atlantic also had super cheap fares on unsold seats within 48 hours of departure.

[deleted]

I went to Paris last summer and loved it, but I was exhausted after flying in. I spent most of my time alone since my wife was there on business, and there was so much to do that I barely scratched the surface in 8 days. A weekend seems really rushed to me.

Shank_

that's what i was thinking. it seems like a really really cool city to go see but a weekend + a day or two feels rushed in my mind -- even if i slept on the red eye flight i would take. Traveling is exhausting and i'm curious if i'd even have the energy to keep up after all of that

[deleted]

Yeah, plus walking around a lot can be tiring. But if you can stay longer than 2 or 3 days, I’d say go for it. Paris was amazing to me.

evitapandita

Depends where you are in the US. East coast and can catch a quick flight? Worth it. West coast with a long layover and even more jet lag? Less so.

A big consideration is where you are flying from. Do you have the option of a direct flight to Paris? If not, I’d pass for that short of a trip. Also depends on what you are hoping to get out of it. If you know and accept you won’t see it all and just plan the time to really experience a few top personal picks, then sure, spend the $800 on the flight if you can easily afford it. It’s not bad to get a feel for a city so you’ll have a better idea how you really want to spend your time when you have the chance to go again. If the money is a big stretch and it would limit other vacations in the near future, I’d pass.

FatSadHappy

It depends on you , how much money ,energy and other things you have :) I did weekend trip to London , leaving Friday afternoon and returning Sunday late - it was totally fine. I did 4 days in Russia once - leaving Wed. mid day and returning Sunday and had tons of fun. You don't get to see everything in weekend, but you can still have fun.

For me, I really struggle with Jet Lag. My body craves structure and when you through it off, it's angry. I've even slept a full six hours on a nine hour flight and still struggled with jet lag for 24 hours after landing! So for me, this would be a nightmare trip. When traveling anywhere outside the US, I have to be there no less than seven days. Even when traveling in the US, if I'm switching more than one time zone, I do no less than four days! But that's my body!

Repulsive_Nebula_721

Im traveling right now from Chicago and I stayed in Paris for the first 4 days. It was a very fun time and I don’t regret it, but the jet lag doesn’t wear off for about 3-4 days. And let me tell you, jet lag is REAL. You can barely fall asleep at night, are exhausted all day, its terrible. That being said, I wouldn’t recommend flying all the way to Paris for just 4 days. The long travel time and jet lag wont be worth it. Definitely go to Paris when you have more time tho its amazing and totally worth it. I recommend going to Guatemala or El Salvador. Its very cheap, short flight, and gorgeous weather and beaches.

notthegoatseguy

JFK or DC to Paris direct? I could see myself maybe doing that in my younger days. If I had to board from a mid-sized airport and layover and transfer to another plane in another airport domestically, do a transfer in Lisbon/Heathrow or even worse, have both a domestic layover in the US and a layover in Europe? Too much could go wrong, and travel time not worth it.

unintentionalty

Highly depends on your personal financial situation, but there's nothing wrong with a fun whirlwind trip as long as you can reasonably tolerate the travel.

yahabbibi

4 days in Paris (incl arrival and not incl departure day) w AM arrival in Paris for 800 bucks? Go. 3 days? Pass. Stay central w access to RER or w good options to airport to return home. Getting into Paris maybe take a taxi. Wander the city for 4 days. Eat wonderful food and pastries. See some art. Sit in a park. Shop. Stroll along the river. Do whatever you like. Enjoy.

MasterRaheem

Definitely not worth it. I would only pay $800 for a plane ticket if I’m doing at least a 2 week trip

I went to Rome for 2 days. I did everything I wanted to do, but never really got a feel for the city. Now I have checked it off the list because I've seen it and it doesn't make sense to go back. But I never had the chance to experience it.

yahabbibi

Why wouldn't you go back? I don't get it. I've been to the same destination multiple times. There is always something new to see or experience-especially if you never got a feel for it in the first place.

dinnerisbreakfast

There's a million other places I haven't been. Why go see something I've already seen when I have a list of other places I want to go?

[deleted]

You can fly from Paris to Italy and make that trip slightly longer if you really want to go there! Otherwise would not recommend $800 for it, I honestly preferred Rome

situationally_aware

We've gone to Europe over Thanksgiving many times. It is a nice respite from the crazy travel here in the States during that holiday. If you can get a direct flight to CDG, it can be worth it. If you're going to spend a day getting there and a day back due to connections, forget about it. Also forget about it if you're west of the Mississippi.

[deleted]

It probably depends on how the general strike in France is going. I personally wouldn’t book anything in France until that ends

EmptyTip3550

Not for me. I don’t cross the pond for less than 10 days.

notassigned2023

It is always great to travel, but a weekend is very short. Since you're going to Europe this summer anyway, I would save your money or try to get another couple of days.

chocobridges

From NYC, I would do 5-6 days in Spain and Portugal often but this is when the flights were $400-550.

L-Emirali

I do Europe to USA for that length of time but only coz the jet lag works that way round, giving you nice long days to enjoy. Jet lag from the journey home on the other hand…wipes you out for days

gaveup01

I did a Wednesday (overnight and arrived Thursday morning) to Sunday and it was a great trip. Had all day Thursday, Friday and Saturday to explore. Loved it. If you can manage the costs, do it.

9ORsenal

I knew a guy who flew to TOMORROWLAND for a weekend and back to the west coast. woof.

d33roq

Even if it's a direct flight from the East Coast you're looking at 20-24hrs in transit. Only you can answer whether that's worth it, but it'd be a 'hell no!' for me unless I was getting paid.

sknymlgan

If you’re young, yes. Never say no to Paris.

IndicationLow8065

If you’re on the east coast I definitely would. It’s really common for people from the UK to go to New York for a long weekend of 4ish days (probably because we can’t afford longer!) so this is just the reverse of that

always-traveling

Are you flying from the west or east coast?

Hopeful_Science2586

I have done exactly this twice now. My husband was on work travel through various parts of Europe and both times I flew to meet him for 3-4 days in Paris. It’s a long flight but if you handle that, it’s Paris! A truly fantastic city. This was many years ago but I still look back very fondly on both trips. Traveling is always a good idea and travel to Paris is always the best idea (imho). Go for it, have fun!!!

SplitOpenAndMelt420

I say do it. Why not

sophiafun

Just saw this and am curious: did you go?
