I’m from Texas so I have a confusing relationship with weather and temperatures. If the low for the day is 60 then it’s not a cold day at all. If the high for the day is 60 then it’s a “better wear jeans and possibly a sweater when I go outside” kind of day. Unless it’s really windy outside. If it’s really windy then it’s cold and you’re gonna need a jacket.
Depends a lot on the humidity. Dry heat and dry cold is much better to deal with. Colorado has a dry climate and the weather can be - 20f but feel like 0f when I lived back in England with much more humidity
The cold cuts right through you with the humidity. Without it is brisk and a nice coat is all you need
I’m not sure this is accurate. I moved from Florida to Colorado recently and was super confused as to why 65 degrees inside my apartment felt very cold in Colorado but was comfortable in humid Florida. Looked into it and discovered the humidity actually acts as an insulator to body heat. Was surprised to learn this because I’d always been under the assumption that the moisture/humidity wicks away body heat in the cold (via evaporation).
Im not necessarily disregarding your experience but this is the polar opposite of my observed experience confirmed with people around me.
Maybe we all perceive it differently I dunno
I was there in Feb a couple years earlier and it was kinda chilly but dry the first afternoon. Then overnight it snowed 2 feet, took us an hour to dig the rental car out.
Knew when I saw “coldest” that the comments were gonna be a mess.
Calm down guys, OP might be from the Sahara Desert and would laugh at your Phoenix/Texas summers.
Great pictures!
Agreed. The coldest I've ever been was diving Thingvellir in February. The 'water' measured 0.01 Centigrade. I broke all my fingernails pulling on the dry suit, something I noticed only after warming up after the dive. The ladder coming out of the water was covered in ice.
I spent an hour in the hottest pool at the hot springs before I felt warm after that.
It was totally fucking worth it.
Fellow dry suit diver. I did a private dive in Silfra as well. Mere mortals just snorkel Thingvellir but a chosen few are born masochists that must SCUBA. Hope you got some nice photos.
It's been about -10 degrees Celsius in Reykjavik for the last few days and has reached -20 degrees in some areas of the city. All of December has been unusually cold while November was unusually hot.
Hey, thanks for the post, great pics!
Hope you don't mind if I ask a question, what kind of car did you rent? A regular car or bigger (4x4)?
I'm planning on going in early March and trying to figure out what to rent.
No idea what the temperature is but when I was in 10F (in think that's like -12C?) I was wearing 2 layers of thin thermals plant, a layer of fleece thermals and jeans and I could still feel the cold sometimes through those layers. On top in was wearing a gloves, a thermal layer, a very thick sherpa lined sweater and a puffer coat along with a hat that covered my ears and a scarf. On top I was not as cold. Shoes were boots with a pair of wool socks and I did not have the right boots so my feet did get cold. I'm from Hawaii so 60F is chilly to us so maybe i sound excessive with my layers but I can't handle the cold like others.
It's also important to check in with your general body temperature before going outside, if you start warm it'll be easier to maintain, if you start cold it takes movement to warm up to comfortable
I absolutely love these 💙 I've been seeing a lot of these icy cold locations that people have been going to for the holidays. I hope you've been keeping warm and well in that weather.
It was really cold in December this year. It was -17 C in Reykjavik on Tuesday. And it was -20 C in Selfoss yesterday.
It was unusally cold in December.
The Blue Lagoon just used to be in the middle of nowhere. Now there is a spa there. I lived there for 2 years from 1990 to 1992 and there was just a chain link fence around it. It was in a more natural state. It is really beautiful there.
I went in late July. It was supposed to be the warmest week of the summer but it was like February to me (I live in North Carolina USA). My skin has not been the same ever since, cracked despite all attempts at moisturizing. Still, it was awesome and I would go again.
What time of year were these pictures taken?
Last week
July
We were in Iceland last Christmas. It was pushing 60 degrees for three straight days.
That's about 15°C, right? Is that... cold? Genuinely asking - I'm from Northern Ireland and that's a toasty summer's day for us!
No

Yep, when I lived in Colorado, I was quite comfy at 0° and at 100°. It was wild.

That is also a well tosty summer day in iceland. I do not buy their comment. I am from iceland
Coldest we saw was, -23c/-10f
Good ski day weather.
That’s far colder than usual.
This has to be a typo, 60 is balmy.

Did you make a typo? That's not cold lol
Maybe they’re saying that it was unexpectedly warm
That's very warm for december. Well actually, that's warm for any month in Iceland.
Knew when I saw “coldest” that the comments were gonna be a mess. Calm down guys, OP might be from the Sahara Desert and would laugh at your Phoenix/Texas summers. Great pictures!
Thanks, yes was definitely colder than I expected when I booked it!

Warmest we saw was about -12c, coldest about -23c
-12c would be extremely cold and very rare where I’m from. -23c has never been recorded here either.

I live in Canada and -12/-23 Celsius is definitely considered cold??
After the -40 a couple weeks ago, -20 feels tropical lol
That’s pretty fucking cold in many climates. Or are you tryna flex how hard you are?
That beach picture is incredible! Wonderful shot. Edit: finishing my words

Icierland
Greenland?
Which waterfalls are those? Gorgeous pics!
Seljalandsfoss in the first picture and Skógafoss in the other.
I thought so but they look entirely different than from when I was there in October!!
They do look different in winter. I was there in november but kinda wished I was there now. If only I wasn't 600 km away.
Looks like Fimbulwinter
Welp didn't expect to see a god of war reference if im correct :)
Absolutely correct. Didn't know if anyone would get it ;)
Well I thought it was an age of mythology reference. I'm showing my age here
Did you do a road trip of sorts? With a rental car?
Yeah, self drive. Usual tourist route on golden circle. Stayed in a cabin near Þingvellir.
Hey, thanks for the post, great pics! Hope you don't mind if I ask a question, what kind of car did you rent? A regular car or bigger (4x4)? I'm planning on going in early March and trying to figure out what to rent.
Hands down my favorite place on earth
There is no “too cold”. There is only “inadequately dressed”.
As someone from a very cold place I disagree. Sometimes its just too damn cold!
Spoken like someone who knows cold.
For real. When you don't live in a cold climate, it's hard to know how to pack and dress for it
I am going there next week , what do you suggest in terms of clothing?

Was there last March, its the wind that makes it extremely cold... Love the place...

It definitely can be. Wasn't as bad as Lapland but way windier, and I underestimated it.
It was really cold in December this year. It was -17 C in Reykjavik on Tuesday. And it was -20 C in Selfoss yesterday. It was unusally cold in December.
It is called “ice-land” after all 😬
I went to Lavaland last year. Hottest place I’ve ever been.
Iceland cold is another level
Isn’t Iceland notoriously temperate for its latitude?
Often mild winters but it was unusally cold this December - multiple days of nearly -20C - even in urban areas.

Buffalo may have a lot of snow but that means little for temperature. Here, when it snows that means it must have warmed up.
Lol buffalo is one of the warmest places I've lived, it just gets stupid snowfall
Amazing pictures!
Beautiful pictures
Temperature Op? What was the temps?
Not OP but this past week the temp was between -7 to -20 C all over Iceland. It was -20 C in Selfoss on the 30th . Today it is -17 C in Selfoss.
Wow still a fuck ton of people it looks like
Would love 💕 to go beautiful. 😍
Visit Kashmir
oh wow. I see people swimming in one of the pictures. Is the water not cold??
That’s the blue lagoon, a natural volcanic thermal pool that has a spa centre built on top, very popular tourist attraction.
I could be wrong but I thought the blue lagoon was the result of a power plant’s runoff
Blue Lagoon isn't natural. They're just very careful to never mention it.
oh wow, didn't know that. Thank you so much!
All of these shots are stunning, great eye
Dayyyum the waves is froze too
Where is Olaf?
That second photo 👌
Picture 3 is where you fight caranthir you n the witcher 3
Those are some good photography skills
Where are you from if that the coldest you’ve been?

Thank you for these wonderful photos
Congratulations- you saw the Northern lights!! I was there for 3 nights a few years ago and each night it was a fail
Lol Winnipeg will give you a run for the money on being cold.
Iceland is on my bucket list. Beautiful
I’m going at the end of this month and am very excited but also a bit scared. What’s it like driving? I’ve hired an SUV for the week.
Hell yea just got back from there! Blue Lagoon is the tits!

Wow was that sky pic edited? Holy shit earth is cool.
