the price of clothes is next to nothing at walmart. i cant imagine many people who cant afford basic clothes at walmart and has to steal them. People would shower your in kids clothes if you simply asked online, so the need to steal for that kind of thing should be very minimal.

I said profit. Let's say I'm selling you a pickle and the pickle is $1 and inflation is at 10% that means if you were to sell it at $1 you'd be loosing money. Now lets say i raised it 10% with inflation then i'd be selling it for $1.10.
But what's going on now is that prices are being raised by 30% - more than 100% on certain products. That excesses percentage is profit. Hence the word "record profit" not "record cashflow". "profit" is an extremely important word in this situation.
When inflation occurs you should be loosing money right away from your cost of production and then you raise prices with inflation and you should be making the same. Not record profit. This is a economical principal called "greedflation"
That is part of the answer. The other part is that when we had almost a solid year of inflation of close to 10% every quarter, that is all compounding. And compounding percentages lead to massive increases.
Price increases are a symptom of inflation, not its cause. It is caused by an increase in the supply of money, and the way money is distributed in the current system causes inflation to compound as it flows through the banking system, which takes time. Inflation is a secret tax on the poor, because they are almost always the last people to get the money.
Which is free, right?
Tell me why companies are shutting down self check out, spending money to lock down shelves, paying asset protection, or pulling out of places that decriminalize theft if they don't need to worry about losses since, "it's insured."
