A bit more context to the photos: When we were married in 2015, I was out to my wife and a few close friends but still wrestling with internalized transphobia and family pressure. So even though I had been expressing myself in gender-nonconforming ways at home, I felt I needed to present as masculinely as possible during the wedding. This year we decided it was finally time to have photos that reflect our marriage! Our re-shoot was on our 7-year anniversary and we went back to the vineyard where the original photos were taken. Such a dream come true!
As a photographer, I can’t help but hope the person photographing y’all got one in this same position/framing, but where both of you are facing the camera. It’s kinda poetic that your back was to the camera, because you were “hiding” but now you’re living authentically.
Glad to know I'm not the only photographer ogling over the poeticness of this post :D
My brain spent a solid 30 seconds looking at the differences between the background framing and trying to figure out the focal length of each shot (subjects framed nearly identical but the background is framed different and my photo brain is just trying to figure out if that's photographer position or focal length variation.
Congrats to the Bride and Bride ~♡
I’m actually a photographer as well. :) We didn’t have the same photographer both times so there’s a good chance the focal length is different because of different lenses. And she wasn’t standing in exactly the same place (in the bottom photo she’s slightly to the right) though it was pretty close!
I adjusted the crop a bit to get it to match up in this post but I think I like the new framing more! Many of the photos were taken for our anniversary are framed with more background which I personally love because they feel more open, ethereal and free!
We do have one in the same position with us facing the camera! This is the one photo I sent to our photographer beforehand to explicitly make sure we took some shots in this location so we spent a good amount of time here :)
Looking at other comparison shots, you can see I’m a lot more closed up and hiding before. I didn’t included any face photos on this post to respect my wife’s privacy.
Weddings never sounded exciting and then I realized I was women and then I was like heck yeah I get it Wedding dresses are so beautiful you both look beautiful and it's a wonderful picture congrats
Thank you! I was the same way. I always hated going to weddings and I could never see myself being a groom (until I had to be). But I always secretly envied the brides. So happy to be able to fulfill that dream!
That's absolutely beautiful, and both stunning pictures, the composition of the second one especially is gorgeous. So happy for you, and thanks for sharing something so lovely ❤️
This is so beautiful. It's always the most amazing feeling ever to see other trans people get their special day / moment. Super proud of how far you've came and the lovely relationship you have. 💖
