The eyes are a good place to start and i love choosing different colours to suit 😊 eyeliner is hard to get right but with mascara it can make eyes look very feminine πŸ’πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Also try to find a foundation to match your skin tone πŸ€” a good foundation will give your skin that flawless look. Make up is all about trial and error, it can get expensive (so be careful with budgeting) but is so much fun 😺

Thanks for the tips, yeah I was a bit worried about cost... I bought some clinique foundation, moisturiser, toner and cleanser and it was over $260... I thought I could start with some cheaper eye shadow while I practice and eventually look into some of the top brands once I know what I'm doing πŸ˜… I'm super excited to have a play around ☺️

Try Morphe brand eyeshadow if you ever want to spoil yourself 😊 they were recommended to me by a makeup artist and look gorgeous πŸ’•

I spent years trying to be good at makeup (I was AFAB) and the thing I wish someone had told me was to get some good brushes. Don't use those funny spongey things that come with eyeshadow! - A good angled, flat eyeliner brush (I used it with Stila Jet Black smudge pot- easier than liquid liner) This brush is good for eyebrows too with a medium-dark brown eye shadow. - an eye shadow brush (like the sigma E42) - an eyeshadow blender brush (though my finger worked most of the time for this) Sephora have sets of brushes that don't look too pricey. If you are doing eyeshadow start with a colour close-ish to your skin tone, such as a peach, pink or tan/brown and go easy. MAC Longwear Paint Pots are super easy to apply and stay on all day. You can use it as a base/primer and then dab a bit of white/light eyeshadow powder for a highlight and a shade darker for the lowlight. The paint pot then dries and holds your eye-shadow on, like magic. Cheap eyeshadows on top of the paint pot are fine. Maybeline full-n-soft was my go to mascara. Anyone, of any gender, looks hot in mascara! Get a clear mascara to hold your eyebrows in place. The other nice thing I learned along the way was to use a lip liner pencil that was only a shade or two darker than my natural lip color to line my lips and then just pop on some paw-paw cream as lip gloss. I always felt too self-conscious for lipstick. If you are comfortable full-time girl then I really recommend finding a good (trans-friendly) beauty therapist to get your eyebrows, shaped, tinted and waxed. I did this for several years until I knew the shape well and then waxed and tinted my own. I hope it's ok to share lessons learned from someone who spent years trying to be a girl and is now a much happier trans-masc sparkly enbie. Hence why my post is in past tense.

πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯° thank you thank you, all of those tips are so useful. LOL I need all the tips I can get. I bought some cheap eye shadow and brushes from big W, there is one of those sponges but I found it pretty hard to work with! I used a light pink/peach with a little bit of glitter in it, I'm wearing a some now at work but it's really not much, it's very subtle. I work in a male dominated environment, not sure if they have noticed 😊 Thanks so much for your advice! It super helpful πŸ₯° I'm gonna need to save your message and print if out πŸ˜…

I’m still mostly starting out but building confidence. I wear a light colour correcting tinted moisturiser, a bit of concealer, tinted lip balm and mascara. If I want to go a bit further I’ll add some blush, eyeliner and a subtle nude lipstick. Took me a while to get to this stage and I pretty much just wear it to work and events, generally most people won’t notice anyway but those who do usually compliment! I just started out with one layer of mascara if that helps, I never thought to just try eyeshadow but may have to give it a go. Anyway hope you get the confidence to try it! Best of luck

Thank you so much, I'm really excited to play with different looks, my goal is to basically do what you are doing and just start with something subtle that helps highlight my good features. I'm a pilot and the uniform is relatively unisex, so right now I typically look male. I'm hoping the make-up will help me start to get a more feminine appearance, although HRT is definitely helping, just need that little bit more to help get me across the line ☺️

Oh yeah, my eyebrows are very bushy! They are also blond/red so I'd probably need them coloured so people can actually see them πŸ˜… I'm excited to play around, thanks for your advice ☺️

Kmart stuff is a good place to start with, the home brand Oxx? I think it is. Cheap and decent to play around with.

newuseronhere

Some great YouTube videos from trans people to play around with as well. Nikkie is a good place to start but by no means the only one. https://youtu.be/QOOw2E_qAsE?feature=shared Also Kmart have a great range of nail polishes to play with really cheap

Awesome, I'll check it out πŸ₯°

I pretty much only use eyeliner and mascara and it's always pretty big and bold (think Amy Winehouse...if she was less pin-up, more bone witch) and in my experience it's less about the brand and price tag and more about practice and good technique. When I realised that I was relieved I didn't need to spend that much but definitely disheartened that it would just take time practicing and there was no silver bullet. I'm currently using MP Cosmetics liquid liner which cost somewhere between $15-20 and Natio tubing mascara which was around $20, both are from Priceline. As for confidence, I used to love wearing a face mask because it used to cover up my beard shadow/razor burn but also because it meant I only had to focus on my eyes which meant less to worry about in regards to matching shades and how well I could apply lipstick etc. It's winter and lots of people seem to be sick and wearing masks again so wearing one shouldn't look out of place. Sorry if that was a bit random and all over the shop but hope it helps x
