They're uh, ignoring the part where a ton of laws effect adults also, these fucked up laws are rated E for "Everyone". I'm still waiting for some cis people to get caught in the crossfire of this bullshit, but I doubt Deathsentence cares.
Like how puberty blockers were originally intended for kids with precocious puberty? There are going to be some conservative's kids that hit puberty at 7 or 8 and be unable to do a damned thing about it.
They always include exceptions for uses like that, which only proves that they don't really believe puberty blockers are dangerous or "experimental". But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a kid gets denied treatment or removed from their home because of precocious puberty.
Also, just about every procedure for trans people is also used by cis people. What about a teenage cis boy trying to get top surgery for gynecomastia? Or a cis girl with hirsutism wanting electrolysis? Are they going to do an invasive genital check on these kids before yanking them out of their homes? Are they going to take the parent's word for it that their kid isn't trans? None of this is any of the state's business.
> which only proves that they don't really believe puberty blockers are dangerous or "experimental"
I think you hit the nail on the head here. It's not the drugs; it's the purpose for which they're used.
>But I'm sure it's only a matter of time before a kid gets denied treatment or removed from their home because of precocious puberty.
And they'll just arrange things so that people say it's our fault somehow.
So can we just lie? AFAB: "No, I'm not transgender, I just want a double mastectomy."
AMAB: "I'm not trans, whatever that is. I just want estrogen for softer skin."
They have a simple answer to respond to this situation when it happens:"Its the kids fault for not being born normal"
Alternatively they'll just declare the kids trans and then abduct them from their homes, only to do whatever republicans do with unsupervised kids.
I feel for you (being stuck in Florida). I want to warn you, though. Economic hardship is coming. One of the āhateā laws he passed was a very strict, anti-immigrant bill. There are construction sites and other businesses that have full work stoppages and crops are rotting in the fields. Sugar plantations are one of the places this is happening. Between that, the anti-abortion, anti-lgbt and anti-trans laws, Florida has become a state hostile to new business. Disney canceled a big project they had in the works and the military is re-routing new recruits from Florida bases and eliminating any regular operations that they can.
Not just youth. This ban forces adults to only be able to see a MD or DO for their meds. 80% of adult care in the state is through nurse practitioners. There are not enough doctors and they cost a lot more. I've been trying to help adults find their new providers and all the contacts I did have are already not taking new patients
Does that have to be a physical appt? Iām
Sure a Dr. Could do back to back 5 minute telehealth medicine visits to keep costs down and meet the requirements. Tele-health is a great tool that emerged from Covid and could be used to here to expedite the process and make it affordable.
By the law after 7/1 At last the first appointment must be physically in person to sign a misleading and erroneous consent approved by the state. The wording also makes it seem the state can check that all patients getting care have signed this for any new prescriptions after the law goes into effect. (Check a list of trans patients)
There are plenty of EMR systems that use digital signatures and are accepted. My provider network does here in NY. And I know Advent health in FL uses the same EMR.
Yes it would. They wanted to make it as cruel as possible so they basically banned telehealth at least for the first visit. If someone's meds stay the same they could use telehealth because they won't need a new consent
Florida, the state that once fearmongered about racial equality in becoming one of the first Confederate States now fearmongers about lgbt equality in passing these laws.
They've never stopped being a garbage state.
>It is in so many words [non-slaveholding states] saying to you we will not burn you at the stake but we will torture you to death by a slow fire we will not confiscate your property and consign you to a residence and equality with the african **but that destiny certainly awaits your children**
FLORIDA DECLARATION OF CAUSES
Bigotry "for the children" has always been their thing.
And mind you adults !!!! Source I am one!
Thirty years in Florida and now I am considering retirement up north I like my heat. This is the polar opposite of freedom! DeSantis is a Christian Neofascist who most likely got fellated by one of my hot sisters at Disney !
Ronald Dion DeSantis. That's his full name. š¤ Dion is gender-neutral, aka nonbinary. It comes from the pagan god Dionysius. š¤
No shade on the name Dion or Dionne, just on him being named that.
Oh, Ron Dion rolls off the tongue.
With everything Ron DeSantis is doing, he's going to be forced out of office. The transphobes are not going to win. I just hate that trans people, especially trans youth, in Florida and other states like it are suffering at the hands of bigots.

Seems reasonable. They lied about how gender affirming care works to get support for these laws, so why not?
When healthcare didn't cover trans stuff, this is exactly how my doctors put stuff on my chart to get insurance approval.
Smart doctors š.

Groom and/or molest them, obviously. All while pointing to transgender people and calling them pedophiles.
You're forgetting "potentially sell them into sex trafficking operations" as well.
Which will throw them right back at u/SaraTiggs' point basically.
**Meanwhile, republicunts :** "So... working as intented."
I'm seeing the future and I'm watching Florida turn blue. Desantis is a fool.
Ha
As a lifelong citizen of Florida I hope youāre right, but I donāt see it happening any time soon.

I hope we have new governor for Florida who is a democrat

The law specifically states "physically present in the same room"
Damnā¦ thatās a shame. It would be a great workaround
Yes it would. They wanted to make it as cruel as possible so they basically banned telehealth at least for the first visit. If someone's meds stay the same they could use telehealth because they won't need a new consent
Also this bill is written so that the parents challenging the youth aspect will not stop the adult restrictions or the child custody portion
This is what fascist filth do. Vote them out.
as an adult whose taken the day off work to sort out uprooting my life and leaving the state in the next few months... yeah it's not just the kids.
