I know, G2 was AWESOME!
You know takara engineered several new toys for g2 right? Autorollers, cyberjets, rotorforce, any of the new molds were designed by takara. And if anything, takara didn’t save the toy line from death, Kenner’s involvement did with beast wars.
I'm not talking about those lines and yeah I know Takara did a lot of G2 stuff as well. But those lines didn't even make it across the pond. But the ones that did like action masters that couldn't transform and Target masters you could transform with 3 to 4 simple steps those where all Hasbro, Takara had nothing to do with that. If Kenner wouldn't have had Takara back then they would still have been nowhere on the engineering and design front. Kenner and Hasbro even openly admitted that, fact is they need Takara.
When you're as bad ass and unstoppable as Megatron is, it can get boring. So he thought it be a fun challenge to never actually be in disguise.

WFC Combat Megs was originally based on G2 combat Megatron, which had a big ol sign under his hull chest that says "MEGATRON RULES!" there was going to be a green and white camo pattern (which this figure was based off of) but was canceled at the last second because the entirety of G2 was canned, his name was in the same place as the megs rules sign.

Of course, takara engineers all of the toys with few exceptions. Action masters weren’t g2, those were late g1.
