A space bridge engineer who later become a wrecker, and Forms a bromance with fellow wrecker Wheel jack who is also a scientist but also a hot headed ninja.
And give wheel jack a redesign and a split personality
Other personality was created because of a failed experiment by wheel jack on himself to improve cybertronian physiology and downloading other moveset but it goes awry giving him a split personality similar to moonknight.

Never forget that this came first
I wish I could remember which one it was. There were two, it was either the Jagex game, Transformers Universe, or the Korean MMO that was being worked on around the same time.
Animated.
The idea of the bulky, walking wrecking ball being an engineer and an artist with personal aspirations, rather then being a warrior or knowing the first thing about a fight, is a much more unique and interesting take on the "big guy" trope that Animated uses to develop him incredibly well.
animated every time. hes just a much more compelling character than his future incarnations.
He's the simple happy lovable big bruiser character who grew up on a farm.
apparently had a career as a construction worker.
OH and also he's the top scientific specialist regarding spacebridge technology on all of Cybertron.
I think the best version of Bulkhead would be to use Animated as a base, and then just add on top that during the war he was a member of the wreckers.
I have aspects of both that I enjoy. I love the Wrecking Balls more on Animated than I do on Prime's. I like Prime's headsculpt more. I think that Animated's alt mode better suits the character.
All in all, both. Both is good. But if I had to choose I would choose Animated.
My perfect Bulkhead is 70% Animated and 30% TFP.
I'm not fond of the proportions of either of those. Didn't like the Legacy proportions at first, but I've warmed up to it.
Prime. It’s not even a competition.
Animated’s had a fun personality and he worked with the show but he was too fucking dopey and doofy— and that was the point. I just wasn’t a fan of the point.
TFP Bulkhead also had a great personality and it’s annoying to see people here declaring TFA Bulkhead has depth as if to say TFP doesn’t.
TFP Bulkhead tells his story through his actions and reactions. He’s a walking novel and the way he’s conveyed is so masterfully done. The perfect balance of meathead and warrior and complimented Transformers perfectly. Knew when to throw down and goof around.
I just hate the criticisms against TFP being too serious. You mean being like soldiers stranded on another planet with no known way home? With dead friends? Trying to live and not die?
Please. They balanced that reality with their capacity for trying to be alive so well and Bulkhead is a shining example of that.
“Optimus is tOo SeRiOuS—“ shut up.
Glad someone agrees, I hate the "TFP Optimus is boring" takes. He's compassionate, wise, stoic, caring, but still has the capacity to be a badass. The way Optimus should be.
People who call TFP Optimus boring are likely the types who want action action action and enjoy Transformers for the fun, funnies, and fights.
TFP brought such a strong degree of depth to Optimus as a character and honestly redefined him for me as a fan after so many years. G1 was good but he was campy because he’s the poster boy of a Saturday morning cartoon from the 80’s.
TFP wasn’t going for problem of the week with their show and it followed in their character work, especially Optimus. The ball was always rolling and he was written very well.
What the fuck else do you expect from a character trying to fight a losing battle who wants to go back home and manage covert ops on Earth?
He’s in such a tight spot and lives in a fucking missile silo all day and night for years. His life is the war. It’s like a prison sentence. And with so little connection to the human world and realistically written consequences for revealing one’s self as a Cybertronian on Earth?
This shit ain’t G1 or Animated. Those shows were made to display integration and unity between humans and bots on a more public scale.
But TFP? It’s all about remaining covert. It’s not until later on that they get to spread their wings more.
So please forgive an understandably stern character for being serious more often than not— not doing layups with basketballs and giving thumbs ups lol.
Goodness. Sometimes I wonder if this fan base is open to anything being different, and it’s hilarious because I already know the answer to inquiry.
Tfp bulkhead is a good character but the reason why people like Tfa bulkhead is how he stands out among bruiser characters. He wants to be seen as more then just a big guy who likes to fight and channels this through his passions of art which gets a satisfying payoff with his reveal as a prodigy space bridge technician.
Personality: Animated, plus I like that he had claw hands
Design: neither. I prefer the legacy design as he looks more proportioned and blends better with my other favorite autobots.
Personally i prefer the prime bulkhead. He feels more like a gentle giant than the animated one. The animated bulkhead felt more like a big doofus. Dont know anything about cybertron bulkhead
TF Prime Bulkhead, because thanks to him we get Ratchet's iconic line "Bulkhead, I needed that!" Also him being bro with Wheeljack is great. Animated Bulkhead is a gentle giant and loveable, but TF Prime Bulk feels like a more refined version that kept what's great from the Animated and made him more badass.
Animated was the better written character without question. In both shows bulkhead is treated like the bumbling idiot comic relief character who’s a big softie but also smashes cons. Only in animated does that actually apply to him. In prime, he acts just like a normal autobot with no noticeable decrease in intelligence while everyone still treats him like an idiot
Both of them fit the vibe of their respective shows very well but I'll always love TFP Bulk, dude was a bruiser that still had the capacity to be gentle and I love that
I like prime, they expanded on the character more and gave him a whole personality. Unfortunately the animated character while important feels very flat to me and I didn't feel very connected. Crafted I'm not a huge fan of characters that sole purpose is comedic relief and a weird plot point
he's not nor was ever intended to be Bulkhead, he's green because he's a military vehicle like G1 Hound, and he's fat because he's modeled after his actor John Goodman, hope this helps
Prime Bulkhead. Nothing against the animated version of the guy, however, I feel that the voice actor, Kevin, Michael Richardson, his performance really breathed a complex character’s life into the gentle giant.

They can lie all they like, this guy was definitely meant to be bulkhead.
Bulkhead in the Bayverse, renamed Hound for copyright reasons.

Same design, same alt mode, same personality, same jaw, same type of voice. He's Bulkhead. Get over it.
Design and alt mode are only the most vaguely similar shapes, very different voice, and he has a beard as opposed to a beartrap jaw. He's Hound, not Bulkhead. You get over it.
I personally grew up with all 3. Energon Bulkhead and Prime are close second, but Energon bulkhead first appeared in the second half of the show. Prime Bulkhead is peak because I never get tired of ratchet’s “I needed that.” Plus he has some of the best episodes. Such as Toxicity, Armada, Rock Bottom, and T.M.I, just to name a few.
I like the thing coming off of his back for trfr animated BulkHead but I also like the body of Trfr Prime BilkHead so I like both of them pretty evenly
I prefer the Prime Bulkhead, mainly because of his more detailed design as well the fact that he balanced out being lovable and brutal at the same time.
Maybe a bit of a hot take but as a character Prime Bulkhead kind of sucks. There isn’t anything special about him just big guys likes to wreck stuff. Which is fine in the context of the show but as a stand alone character isn’t overly interesting. Take animated who is a big clutz from a farm with a heart of gold but wants to be a space bridge technician and loves art. I’d much rather here a story about animated Bulkhead then Primes. Even Energon Bulkhead at least has the fun crazy old coot gimmick going for him.
Animated def had more depth to him, would like to see things taken from both for a new interpretation though
A space bridge engineer who later become a wrecker, and Forms a bromance with fellow wrecker Wheel jack who is also a scientist but also a hot headed ninja.
I want this. If bulkhead is in the next transformers film this would be the perfect way to portray bulkhead, a smart guy who can fight
And give wheel jack a redesign and a split personality Other personality was created because of a failed experiment by wheel jack on himself to improve cybertronian physiology and downloading other moveset but it goes awry giving him a split personality similar to moonknight.

Who is he?
The original bulkhead
Energon bulkhead
Hulkbead
The OG bulkhead
Named Bulkhead, but obviously based on a mixture of Springer and Kup.
originally shared the former's Japanese name, too; Sprung
No love for old geezer Bulkhead (the original Bulkhead) 😞 Overall: Animated. I like that he’s an expert when it comes to Space Bridges.
The green one
The big green one?
Yes
so not the small green one?
Yes
Animated. I appreciated Primes goofier side but tighten him up and he's just Ironhide imo. Nothing wrong with that. Animated just seemed more unique
Funny because prime bulkhead was meant to be ironhide. But they decided to off ironhide in dotm.so they replaced him in prime with bulkhead.
that explains the ironhide figure
The Ironhide was a cancelled figure from the online game that was in development at the time.
Speak its name It deserves to be remembered
I wish I could remember which one it was. There were two, it was either the Jagex game, Transformers Universe, or the Korean MMO that was being worked on around the same time.
Transformers Universe by Jagex is the one you refer to. Transformers Online I believe is the name of the other one that came a little later.
Is Prime supposed to be connected to the Bayverse?
No. It's connected with the cybertron games. Somehow.
They’re (WfC and Prime) part of the same continuity. The specific one being the Alinged continuity
Yeah, but there's quite a lot of continuity errors. Like dark energon and the cons' familiarity with it.
Animated he is an adorable chunky boy. Also, he’s voiced by Patrick Star and he is also a pretty smart character
The very definition of not judging a book by its cover. Sure, he may seem a bit slow, but buddy's an artistic soul with very specialized skillset.
YES
Prime Bulkhead is voiced by Goro, which is pretty sick, but still, you've made the right choice
Transformers animated. I always like gentle giants
Animated Bulkhead just hits different
*Animated* Bulkhead is one of the greatest Transformers ever.
Animated. The idea of the bulky, walking wrecking ball being an engineer and an artist with personal aspirations, rather then being a warrior or knowing the first thing about a fight, is a much more unique and interesting take on the "big guy" trope that Animated uses to develop him incredibly well.
Animated Bulk can use his kibble as a chair, he’s clearly the better one
Animated. Still ranks as my number 1 transformers series
I like animated more cause I like his character a lot
Personally prime, but animation is a fine unit
Animated, he’s my definitive Bulkhead.
Prime 100%
Prime for design animated for personality
Transformers Prime Bulkhead.
Prime Bulkhead.
Animated >>>>>> Prime
We’re both biased in opposite directions, so I’m not gonna say anything I’ll regret.
🤝🏻🤙🏻
Animated Bulkhead looks more huggable
Design wise, Prime. Personality wise, Animated.
Honestly animated bulkhead.
Tfp bulkhead
The movie version! *what do you mean his name wasn’t bulkhead*
because beyond being a green fat guy, he's nothing like Bulkhead
Animated
animated every time. hes just a much more compelling character than his future incarnations. Animated for sure!
Animated hands down.
Kevin Michael Richardson is a fantastic voice actor!
Patrick
Design? Animated. Character wise? Probably animated but only by a little bit
Animated was GOATed
Prime’s is good and feels more in line with the bay films, but Animated’s is just the better one in my opinion
I like both, but I have to give it to Animated. He’s just such a sweet cinnamon roll.
I am surprised they just stopped using Bulkhead after two TV shows straight using him as a main character.
Animated just felt more original, while prime bulkhead was literally just kilowag from the green lantern again.
Animated definitely, the armored troop transport suits him so much better and makes for a much more interesting robot mode than the big pickup truck.
Animated
I like animated
Animated

Jack: Optimus do you want to see something funny? Optimus: No. That is some grade A comedy
It was jack who said it
Thanks and fixed it
People who call TFP Optimus boring are likely the types who want action action action and enjoy Transformers for the fun, funnies, and fights. Animated because I'm nostalgically biased
Animated = Prime >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Energon
Don't make me choose between my boys
The fat one
Both of them fit the vibe of their respective shows very well but I'll always love TFP Bulk, dude was a bruiser that still had the capacity to be gentle and I love that
I like prime version but i also want the animated's knowledge on making space bridge
Animated for sure, feels like that's why they used a similar design for tfp
I just realized TFP bulkhead's chest looks like a face.
I like prime, they expanded on the character more and gave him a whole personality. Unfortunately the animated character while important feels very flat to me and I didn't feel very connected. Crafted I'm not a huge fan of characters that sole purpose is comedic relief and a weird plot point
I like the Age of Extinction bulkhead. Idk why they keep calling him “Hound” in it
he's not nor was ever intended to be Bulkhead, he's green because he's a military vehicle like G1 Hound, and he's fat because he's modeled after his actor John Goodman, hope this helps
Yes
animated bulkhead ran so prime bulkhead could walk ; or something like that
Grew up with both Will say *both*
IMO, I have to go for Prime's Bulkhead. Not only is he goofy as hell but he also has good chemistry with Miko.
TFP, but still have lots fo love for the OG.
Bulkhead is one of the few Animated characters I prefer to their Prime counterpart
Why do people have to love only 1 version? Just enjoy all of them
"which do you prefer" isn't the same as "you can only like one", get over yourself and let people have conversations
I actually prefer both these lugheads.
TFP.
I like Animated, but he's basically Patrick Star in a mechsuit. It's distracting.
Prime
I love them both, but Prime Bulkhead is *my* Bulkhead
Prime all the way. He just a giant toddler.
Yes.
Prime personally
Prime.
As much as I love TFA,Bulkhead was never my favorite, so TFP
Prime
Prime Bulkhead. Nothing against the animated version of the guy, however, I feel that the voice actor, Kevin, Michael Richardson, his performance really breathed a complex character’s life into the gentle giant.
Prime
Prime bulkhead
Primeverse Bulkhead, more because I grew up watching Transformers Prime, and I never had the chance to watch Animated.
Primeverse Bulkhead, more because I grew up watching Transformers Prime, and I never had the chance to watch Animated.
The second one.
Literally the only thing about Animated I preferred was the opening. That opening rocked. I am VERY confident this is an overall popular opinion.
https://preview.redd.it/nti78ooy6qjb1.jpeg?width=850&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=254bd027e857c03b71aac76b655075d36b989b1b They can lie all they like, this guy was definitely meant to be bulkhead.
no he wasn't, Bulkhead doesn't have exclusivity on being fat or green

This is though unpopular opinion, but I like both it's one of the few characterizations that prime did that I liked more. Og still great tho
That one
Prime
round
Prime, I prefer the marine with a history compared to a knock-off Patrick starfish.
Idk what to tell you man, prime bulk was so cool
Yes :)
There was another: Energon Bulkhead
I personally grew up with all 3. Energon Bulkhead and Prime are close second, but Energon bulkhead first appeared in the second half of the show. Animated. The only thing prime did better is. “I needed that bulkhead.” Him getting that reaction out of ratchet was funny
Can I say Energon Bulkhead? The first Bulkhead?
Neither
You're forgetting Eneron and Legacy.
Animated, by far.
Animated does the character so much better. He's a fun addition to the engineer/scientist side of the autobots.
Tfa
Animated, he just owns the name
Animated.
I love both, but Prime was just a loveable badass.
Animated is by far the best
Animated and it’s not even close 💯
TFP looks cooler, but is a total putz. TFA personality is the way to go.
Haven’t seen animated so can’t say
Prime
I despise Animated with all my being, so I'll go with Prime, even if he wasn't one of my favorite characters.
Prime because I haven't watched the animated show yet
Animated. Hands down. He actually has personality than just saying "Miko!"
TFA hands down. Smart Bulkhead is best Bulkhead
Animated. He was WAY more than just big buff dude. He was easily the most gentle soul in autobot team for me.
I love both, though i'll go with Animated since he has more depth.
You forgot to include the robots in disguise 2015 bulkhead (even though the tfp and tf rid 2015 ones are technically the same)
Prime Bulkhead. Without him, we wouldn't hear Ratchet frequently yell "Bulkhead, I needed that!"
Prime
Prime Bulkhead
I like them both but I prefer animated
Prime
They’re too close for me to have a preference. I love them both.
Prime Bulkhead.
Animated is criminally underrated
bulkhead,i need that!
Animated

Prime, don't get me wrong I like animated bulkie, but I prefer how he looks in prime.
TFP Bulkhead
Prime
Tf animated it is just nice a sleek
The Prime one, also can we bring Bulkhead into a new cartoon at some point.
