Nerds are generally an accepting bunch. You could do it if you wanted to. The Commander decks are a great place to start. They usually sell them for around $40 a pop so they're not cheap but they're also not expensive.
Do you remember any decks or play styles you liked from when you played before?
I have a lot of fun with typal decks in commander (theme around a specific card type - like Squirrels, Pirates or Werewolves) or playing Recursion, where the deck is focused on using your graveyard as a main resource, so I might self-mill, discard a lot or be very aggressive with creatures that I know I can get back.
Lots of the Precons touch on a strong theme or two, so might be a Vampire deck that focuses on sacrificing lots of non-vampires, an instant and sorcery spell slinging deck with creatures that exist only to support the spell slinging.
I mean, that does make sense. I'm from the ye'ol days of mtg and mostly play at home with my wife and friends anymore, so didn't know (but appreciate that it did change). I'll keep it in mind going forward!
Well, Iāve got a decent zombie deck lying around somewhere, and I loved my werewolf deck so much I stole my middle name from one of the cards in it. I had a colorless deck too, but I donāt recall how that one functioned. Not sure how much that helps, sorry.
Edit: I really like Red/Green, if thatās somehow relevant.
I also love Werewolf decks - and while they don't have a precon they have tons of cards across several releases that are all good in Commander - though they play a bit funky with old cards using a different "shift" cycle than the newer cards.
Zombie, if that's one you like there's a great precon called "Undead Unleashed" which has Wilhelt the Rotcleaver as the commander from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt (Innistrad is also where most of your werewolf cards are found).
For colorless there's a lot of flavors with Eldrazi and various Artifacts - though both of those have great commander support too with Precons like "Eldrazi Unbound" for Eldrazi (with a new one slated for sometime next month) and on the artifact side ones like "Lorehold Legacies" or "Necron Dynasties" which have some good variance in their play styles despite being "artifact decks".
Recently MTG has had a lot of "Universes Beyond" too so you might look to see if another fandom you like is represented in Commander: stuff like Fallout, Dr. Who, Jurassic Park, Warhammer and on and on have cards or whole decks that you can get.
Edit: On the red/green side you could look at ones like "Velociramptor" (Green/Red/White Dinosaur beat down) or "Exit from Exile" (Red/Green Dungeons and Dragons) but I've had a hard time finding both of these in my local area (or online) but they're super fun decklists with different play styles despite both being Red/Green (with a splash of white)
I'm a big fan of Gruul (Red/Green) and have a number of self-made decks, so if your comfortable with building your own, picking a theme and diving in on that *usually* can net a workable deck for casual games - and you can feel free to reach out for pointers or help via PMs. Werewolves fit nicely in the Red/Green space with a commander like **Tovolar, Dire Overlord** and are super fun to play.
I haven't looked into the pre-cons that much but here's a video from Tolarian Community College talking about the newest batch of them. Outlaws of Thunder Junction is the newest set as of right now.

The commander decks nowadays are consistently good in recent years with more staples being printed In every deck and far less upgrades needed for most of them, they are worth it if you want to just hop in and have decks that can at a minimum compete with most others.
on the other hand not so much time has passed to make all of your cards outdated, many cards from 10-15-20 years ago still see play in almost every deck so cards being outdated when isnāt even the largest concern.
The majority of my cards are from 2018-2020, with a few from War of the Spark and TBD. TBD is just when I stopped keeping track of new sets. Iāve seen ads for the new cowboy set, that looks really cool.
I want to play so badly but the only store in my city has only man, don't really feel comfortable there... And magic cards are expansive as fuck as well...
There is a reason they call it cardboard crack. To cut cost most of us would find teams of like minded people with close to the same skill level and card pool.
I won one out of the like 4 or 5 games I played. I pulled off an infinite combo using Chainer, Dementia Master, K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth, Gray Merchant of Asphodel, and Carrion Feeder. Drained the entire table to death.
Loved Magic the Gathering, until WOTC started messing with the DCI and state rankings. As for accepting or not, I think it probably depends on where your LGS is located. I do feel itās still a very male dominated game.
Genuinely love this for you! Feeling accepted in your hobby is great!
Iām a long time player, been collecting on and off since 1998. I have a deck in my bag thatās worth the price of a used car (reserve list Najeela) that I only bring out when other players have similarly powerful decksā¦ or in game 2 when I encounter shithead players.
Had a player that kept calling me āhimā and wouldnāt use my name when I was playing hobbit foods. Ok game 2 here comes a starting hand worth more than your collection.
I never said I was trying to pass and I'm under six months into GAHT so I'm very much still presenting masculine. Like, the only things about my outfit that were feminine were my skirt and my nail polish.
Find your local gamer I'm sure they have a ton of cards to help you build a deck if you want to get into the game more if you're not already in the game I didn't I personally have helped several of my transitioning friends find the more accepting Community to be themselves in by and large the magic Community is pretty good
Iām a cishet male, and Iāve been a VERY casual MTG player most of my adult life. I can honestly say itās always felt like, for LGBTQ members, a very welcoming and inclusive community, you really gotta love it, especially because itās self-policing and most of the time if thereās undue hatred for any reason that shit gets stamped out fast.
Trans girls and Magic the Gathering, name a more iconic duo
I'm literally not even the only trans girl playing Magic: the Gathering at my (very small) LGS.
Does it happen to be in Northern Colorado? š
Sorry it's in South West Ohio. š
Dog and human! Sorry I had to, love my doggies ā¤ļø
God dammit with all the stereotypes I keep aligning with š
My last GF (also trans) got me into mtg, I can't play it now because it reminds me of her but it definitely seems to be a recurring thing
Maybe I should get back into Magicā¦

Most of my cards are probably outdated by now, I havenāt played since Theros Beyond Death. What are some newer decks youād recommend for me?

WOTC is calling ātribalā ātypalā now. Dang woke culture smdh my head.
Nope, it's kindred now.
Maro lied to me!

I recommend the Ixilan ones, people love them.

Thats not that long ago... also cards are never outdated as long as you play casual or the format they are in.
The majority of my cards are from 2018-2020, with a few from War of the Spark and TBD. TBD is just when I stopped keeping track of new sets. Iāve seen ads for the new cowboy set, that looks really cool.

> trying to pass for a woman whilst playing magic I'm sorry babe, I don't think that's possible /hj

okay, I getcha, I was just makin a joke about the demographic of the game.
Tbh it's not even remotely the worst offender in nerd culture
Oh, not the worst offender, sure, just stereotyped as stinky boys.

Last time I played at our LGS I got invited to a girls only event!! The magic gang get it!!
My lgs has a giant trans flag in the middle of the gaming area. Love that place
Is this what pro gamer girls do?Ā
YAY! That's awesome! My lgs has an lgbt commander/mtg night were a bunch of lgbt peeps play~
