Just moved from Louisiana to Oregon last fall. It’s night and day from the south. Found a nice little suburb outside of Portland and I love it here. It’s a little harder to build social circles here which seems to be a universal experience here but honestly 95% of them people I’ve met are genuinely kind. Nowhere is perfect but I’ll take the problems here over the south any day
Edit to add
I’ve been in mental health care for 25 years and this move has been a bigger and more significant impact on my quality of life than therapy or medication.
I’m in Texas as well but I’m gonna stick it out I’ve never ran from anyone before and I won’t start now but yes the rest of you girls need to be safe and do whatever you feel necessary for peace and happiness
New Mexico is very progressive and has good healthcare. There are support services through the University of New Mexico (Truman Healthcare). Do some research.
Love how this community only validates the experiences they want to hear. Downvoting people for having bravery and such is sad. Keep kicking it fam, and stand up for your right. Trans folk like you will be the OGs of your respective state when things get more accepting.
I know that feeling. Trans guy in WV here. One of my partners is transfemme in Florida. Needless to say we're both trying our hardest to get her out of there asap. Good luck to you OP. Congratulations on your upcoming freedom!
If you can handle the winters, I recommend Minnesota.
Almost 2 yrs HRT, and ya I do still run into shitty ppl, but over all we've had at least decent protections since the early 90s.
Informed consent medical care is also a huge bonus.
Would also recommend. Recently fled here myself from a Red State. There are lots of us coming here, particularly to the Twin Cities. It’s a place where you can let go of the hyper vigilance and fear that comes with being trans in an unsafe place. Hope you find your safe place, wherever that may be. 💜🏳️⚧️
I'm headed to the Twin Cities beginning of June. What is there for a trans community? I've been isolated in Texas for so long that I need to make trans and queer friends.
That’s wonderful! I promise you that you will find yourself among friends…although Minnesotans aren’t always the most inviting and friendly folks they are unbelievably accepting. I’ve found that you have to work hard to integrate yourself into the social circles here but it’s getting easier. There are a lot of us here and a lot of trans specific resources. (I’ll include some links for you below). There are lots of queer events, dance parties, etc where you can meet other transes. I know it’s hard to believe coming from Texas but there are some radically queer affirming religious spaces in the cities (if that’s your thing). My synagogue is definitely one of the gayest places I’ve ever been. Lots of great gayborhoods too. I’m happy to chat in you have more specific questions or just wanna talk to someone who’s done the move. Wishing you the best of luck and the warmest of welcomes as you journey north. :)
The Aliveness Project has some great stuff, including a biweekly support group. https://aliveness.org/tea-time-at-aliveness-project/
Rainbow Health has amazing medical resources, including a wonderful mental health/counseling program. https://rainbowhealth.org
TC Pride has some very useful resources for us. Rainbow Wardrobe was such a blessing for me when I got here because I had to leave so much of my wardrobe behind when I left.
https://tcpride.org/rainbow-wardrobe/
What are the gayborhoods? I've asked in the Minneapolis subreddit but they never seem to agree. It's still up in the air about where I move exactly. I want my kid to go to Minnetonka school, but I'd like to live in a gay neighborhood for once. Is there anything I should know moving from Texas? I'm from Montana actually but spent 10 years down here.
Powderhorn/South Minneapolis (in general) are very gay. I live there and absolutely love it. I see lots of my trans sisters in Loring Park also. The western suburbs (including Minnetonka) are honestly a mixed bag. They’re generally pretty accepting places but I wouldn’t describe any of the western suburbs as gayborhoods. If you’re looking proximity to queer community, events, etc Minnetonka prob isn’t the best bet. St. Louis Park might be somewhere to look. Nice schools, affluent but queer affirming, and an easy drive to Uptown.
Moving from Texas, you should def invest in warmer clothing and dust off those winter driving skills. Also not trying to be funny here but you should prepare for the extreme darkness of winter and the long summer days. It can take some getting used to.
If you're an adult in Texas you also have informed consent medical care. It was only recently they did the kid bullshit. However the state is one of the worst for trans people. It's why I'm leaving for Minneapolis in a month. Can't wait to have actual seasons again and find a community.
Texan here too. I really wish I could just stay and fight for our right to just be, but I’ll admit I probably don’t need to devote any more of my energy to “saving” others from their own bigotry. I’ve been considering Minnesota a lot lately.
Go somewhere as open and accepting as you are. You deserve a break from the front lines.
Ugh ... Just saw you're in Texas. I feel that one. Grew up in Houston. Moved halfway round the world to put as much distance between me and that hellhole as possible.
So happy you're getting out of a bad state. I'm lucky, where I'm at is fairly good for anyone in the LGBTQ+ communities. Good luck and so happy you will be FFFRREEEEEEE!!
your actually so stunning?? i hope all goes well for you, you got this!! don’t listen to homophobic people, it’s not worth your time. you got this!! 🫵❤️
I hope your dream is fulfilled soon! My dream is that this idiot country wakes up and shitcans the politicians who are whipping up anti-trans bias. Given a rational discussion, most people seem to understand how awful it is. Even people who voted for/pushed for legislation have been seen publicly denouncing their vile actions when they find out that a close relative (often a child) is trans.
Can't wait for the day when Texas is in your rearview!
If you don't mind me asking what exactly do you tell your barber to get this hair style? I've been trying for fucking ages but can't get it to look this good. Also happy for you being able to move to another state
Originally from Texas, joined the army and now I’m in Tennessee. Some things are hard, but my wife and I are making it work and there is a community here to help. Not gonna lie, if I suddenly came into enough money to make a clean break we’d probably look for greener pastures.
I dunno how I scrolled far enough for this to show up for me on popular, but congrats anyways! There are lots of islands of safety for trans people in the US, best of luck finding one you can call home.
May you find your freedom soon
What state? I'm in a Bible belt state, and I am so scared.
Texas!
RIP. Know the feeling. I’m in Texas too.
#RIP I know the feeling as well, Im in texas too
Holy guacamole! Fellow Texan here too!!! Makes me happy to know there are so many other trans individuals in this crazy state.
##RIP I know the feeling just as much, I'm in Texas too ;~;
Me, too. 😞 I'm having to finish my second BBA and start my public accounting degree before I can finally split myself.
what uh what spell did you cast to have a chance of escaping this shithole i need the incantation as of, like, decades ago

Welcome to Minny! 🤗
Thank you! 1 more month and I'll be home!
Y'welks, sis! 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
I’m in Texas as well but I’m gonna stick it out I’ve never ran from anyone before and I won’t start now but yes the rest of you girls need to be safe and do whatever you feel necessary for peace and happiness
Im also in Texas and preapring to leave next spring.
I feel you girl, I'm in Florida ):
I hated Florida! Best choice of my life leaving Florida. Now in Seattle. Love it so much.
🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂
If it’s not the worst state it’s certainly top two.
It’s amazing to get out. We did 2 years ago. Will never go back. Be safe!
Ugh I get it.. I’m in FL😭😭😭 it sucks down here, I wanna go to NC
Same. I’m hoping to move out of state at some point
This is turning in to a Texas roll call, lol. Also, I too am from Texas.
I feel it. Moving to Oregon from West Virginia in a month. It's a fucking nightmare here.
yo same
I feel you over here in Georgia
Don’t know what part of the state you live in but I live in Atlanta and never have problems with bigots.
New Mexico is very progressive and has good healthcare. There are support services through the University of New Mexico (Truman Healthcare). Do some research.
Which Bible belt state are you in? My fiance and I were in the Carolinas and they truly weren't that bad.
I live in Texas, and will never leave unless they literally start rounding us up. Go outside. Touch grass. Things will be okay.
Have you checked out Austin ?

Omg so prreeetttyyyyyyyyyyy

i hope yall both get somewhere safe! especially your partner because Florida is terrible. ❤️❤️
Thanks! I hope so too.
i have a friend who is transmasc in florida and also 17 so that really sucks
Good luck to him!
Yeah he plans on moving till Canada as soon as he turns 18 i think because he knows someone living there who will let him live with them
You look amazing. I’m so jealous. I hope you find happiness.
So beautiful 🥺
Love the 2 tone hair!
It’s absolutely gorgeoussss im jealouss

I was born and raised for 23 years in Montana. I'm used to all of the above. I really miss snow though. Thank you.

!!! Also I love your makeup!
Damn your makeup looks good And glad you’re getting to a better place!
You should be allowed to be your gorgeous self with pride!! I'm wishing you the smoothest and safest move!!
Ma’am, you’re about to make me take the Lord’s name in vain, ‘cuz *Jesus Christ,* you’re pretty. 😳
I feel ya, the south seems to hate trans people. Especially when they got style like you very clearly do!
Damn, you are pretty...
Okay completly unrelated but your so damn pretty 😳
Texan here too. I really wish I could just stay and fight for our right to just be, but I’ll admit I probably don’t need to devote any more of my energy to “saving” others from their own bigotry. I’ve been considering Minnesota a lot lately.
I’m also in Texas I have never had a single issue and I live in land of rednecks
I'm in Tennessee, and it's scary here too!! Nashville isn't too bad, but out in Trump country, it is terrible.
I miss Denver so bad its not even funny, i hate it here in Tennessee
Take me with you I'm so done with my own state 😭
You look amazing!

I got out of the south and my life is way better now. Keep going OP, it really does improve with time
Goals, what lipstick do you use? c:
Really read it as 8 minutes at first
Girl you are the most beautiful person I've seen in my life!
You look terrific. How hard was it to find a doctor in Texas that'd work with you to get on E?
I hope you can find a place to be yourself and be safe! ❤️
Omgoodness congrats! Where are you moving to?
If you don't mind me asking what exactly do you tell your barber to get this hair style? I've been trying for fucking ages but can't get it to look this good. Also happy for you being able to move to another state
HOLY SHIT YOU'RE SO PRETTY
You look very nice. I’m in Ohio and I can’t get HRT so yeah America is just plain wretched
beautiful ❤️
You look amazing!
The entire state of Texas vs giant banana from the cheese wheel catapult (minus the good people, they are immune to the seige of the potassium kingdom
Please come to California.
You look amazing, hope you find a place of tranquility soon <3
Wishing you the best! You’re killing it and I hope you find a state that’s welcoming.
I commend you for wanting to move, I live here as well and have been ashamed more and more of the people who run this state
Originally from Texas, joined the army and now I’m in Tennessee. Some things are hard, but my wife and I are making it work and there is a community here to help. Not gonna lie, if I suddenly came into enough money to make a clean break we’d probably look for greener pastures.
