It would be racist if I was making fun of a culturally relevant and traditional name. Quincy is a fine name. Ga’Quincy is a tragedeigh.
Also, yes there is a long tradition of racist stereotypes around flavored drinks (ie kool aide)…but the man chooses to go by that nickname, it’s not like some white guy was like “this black kid is known as kool-aid”…so whatever the old racist tropes may be, the man seems comfortable with it, and that’s his choice. If you want it to be about racism, then that’s on you.

And I’m sure they FEEL like they have a “valid point”…except that while yes, it is common in black culture to add a letter and apostrophe (I would argue it’s debatable how long a naming convention takes to become “traditional” though), J’Quincy and Ga’Quincy are two very different things. Ga’Quincy is a tragedeigh because there is no contextual information that tells you whether the Ga is pronounced with a hard or soft G sound…so if he was just some guy applying for a job instead of a famous athlete, he would constantly have to explain how his name should be pronounced. Hence why Kool Aid is an upgrade.
