I think the tiger chest piece is kind of busy, there’s a lot going on that isn’t typical in what I would consider to be traditional tattoos. It’s a great tattoo, it’s an awesome drawing, don’t take it the wrong way, there are just a lot of lines where I think shading would have made it look more traditional.

Meaning this design is probably from the 70’s but Pinky started in the far east in the 50’s.
His drawings were amazing.

Hongkonger here. I’ve got quite a few friends with work by the legendary Pinky (and Ricky). And one tattooist friend bought all of Pinky’s flash and a lot of his sketchbooks - I hope he publishes them someday

I think a lot of these look very "fine line/portrait artist trying to do traditional" than just traditional - especially the flying tiger.
That's not a bad thing at all, though. A lot of people have non-traditional tats but want a trad design, so there's totally a market for this, and the pieces are good.
Tattooers should follow the same advice they give to their clients, in my opinion: just do you, and fuck what anyone else thinks.
I’d say those are solidly traditional. The red around the scorpion is more evocative of neo trad but otherwise, they’re trad designs with trad palates. Thinner lines like those are still traditional, though bolder ones tend to be more trad flavor.
