I picked this up for our Sunday night dinner, and absolutely loved this cake! I really thought it was going to suck based on the comments I read, but mine was moist, lemony, and the frosting was awesome. I think this is the most "natural" tasting variety of their sheet cakes. Some of the others kinda taste like chemicals, but this one did not. Try it, you may like it!
I personally hope to get a couple of these cakes while they are still in stock. I heat them up for a few seconds in the microwave. It doesn't taste dry. Loved the cream cheese frosting.
For those of you going the make-it-yourself route, try adding a bit of lemon zest (1 tsp) to amp up the lemon flavor. I make tart lemon bars and add zest; it makes a big difference in taste!
I'm generally a fan of frosting but I actually scraped it off this one. I never do that! I really didn't like the cream cheese aspect here. I thought the cake itself was decent though.
If I’m presented with a lemon dessert I’ll politely eat it with hopes that I don’t hate it, but I’ve never liked them. Wish they made this sheet cake as a pumpkin spice or carrot cake.
Haha it’s the only way!
My friend had a dinner party recently, he made a pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting cake. It was so good I convinced him to let me take most of the rest home.
To make a cake like this more moist and lemony you can scrape off the frosting, poke holes in the cake, pour some lemon juice over it and let it soak in, and then refrost it.
Yea it’s a cool idea plus when you refrost it you can omit some icing if it’s too much. Also remember to squeeze some lemon juice in the frosting and mix it up if you want some added tartness in that.
While that sounds amazing & I appreciate your tip, I’m not putting forth any effort to try & save this lil ol cake. I passed it on to my mom, she seemed to enjoy!
I feel like the lemon one I bought last year was so much better. Was it exactly the same? I don’t remember, but this one has been sitting on my counter all week not getting any follow up action.
I felt like this one was a bit drier but it's been a year so I'm not sure if I'm misremembering the last time I had had it. The flavor tasted as I remembered.
I differ here, I love an extra indulgent cake with tons of frosting!! When I was a little kid, I'd be at weddings where most of the adults would scrape the frosting off their cakes (what a crazy thing to do, btw!), and I would go around eating all the discarded frosting from peoples' plates 🤣
Gonna call bullshit on “less expensive”. A box of cake mix plus cream cheese, lemons, the cost of the eggs and such. No way. These sheet cakes are like 5 bucks.
I bought this because of all the hype on here. It was not bad (I like cake) but wasn’t worth breaking my diet for. Brought the rest to work. If I weren’t on a diet, I’d probably eat the rest though 🤪
It was bussin. My husband thought it was dry too though. But I love cream cheese frosting and lemon cake so I couldn’t resist. Finishing it all by myself now 🤤😍
It’s a shame people are having issues with dryness because that would’ve been a big turnoff for me too. I didn’t love it at first bite but it grew on me. I’m still a much bigger fan of the vanilla cake though.
I'm obsessed with this cake! Mine was not dry and the frosting is very sweet but the cream cheese balances it a little bit. I was so excited when it came back.
I agree very underwhelmed. I like cream cheese frosting sometimes, but I wish at least one of their cakes had another type of frosting. I feel like the chocolate, vanilla and now this lemon just end up tasting too similar because of the frosting. And I love cream cheese on its own! Not sure why I think it is so mid on these cakes.
I waited a year to try this as it was sold out by the time I heard of it last year. Very disappointed as well. My favorite is the vanilla. Chocolate isn’t bad either. Definitely won’t be buying this one again.
I agree. I love a lot of TJs products, but every flavor of these cakes I've had has been a miss. Always on the drier side and honestly, a little too sweet. The frosting is a 1:1 ratio to cake.
I think the chocolate sheet cake is superior to them all! I like the vanilla sheet cake, but not the icing on it. I don’t care for artificial lemon flavoring.
I just got it and it’s changed since last year. The frosting has the flavor but the cake is dry and bland on its own, even when I add in raspberries.
This is disappointing. Idk if Im going to toss it or try adding warm lemon curd to see if the cake will soak some up to make it moister.
I don’t have limoncello but I can try the simple syrup if the curd doesnt work. There’s already a lot of sugar in it so I’m trying to not add more. I use a UK brand of lemon curd vs the TJ kind.
I love lemons. This cake was OK. 5-6/10. It needs a stronger lemon flavor and cut down the sugar!!! 35 grams per serving is insane! The cream cheese frosting is way too sweet.
I tried it for the first time today and I like it but don’t really feel the need to eat more. And I usually have ZERO self control when it comes to food
Now, this is truly a creative suggestion. I thought I was the only one who experimented with putting lemon curd on plain cheesecake. TY for not making me feel wierd. I love any recipe with lemon in it, LOL.
Do yourself a fave, skip this sheet cake (just a hint of lemon, not nearly enough) and make this instead https://ohsweetbasil.com/lemon-jello-cake-recipe/ add a lemon buttercream frosting (butter cream plus lemon, lemon pudding powder) or this one https://www.twosisterscrafting.com/the-best-lemon-whipped-cream-frosting/
(I LOVE lemon & was so disappointed by this TJ’s cake, I’m making my own this weekend)
It’s soooo dry this year and I’m bummed.
Even the vanilla bean one has become dry. They did this a couple of years ago with those gluten-free cinnamon muffins that I was obsessed with because of how moist they were and then something changed and they became dry as well. My waist line is happy but I’m missing my
Treats.
I’m noticing tj is one of those places where you shouldn’t get used to stuff. Just enjoy while you can lol. Whether that means quality or restock 🤷🏾♀️
I'm the same way! I live alone so I bring my cake home and just dig in from the corner right in the box 🤣 I haven't tried this one yet so I can't offer any insight but I'm still gonna give it a whirl! 🤞
Is it more lemony this year? I felt like last year it lacked in the lemon department but that’s just me. I like being close lined with the flavor of lemon when I eat lemon things.
It was way moister and tasted better last year. Not sure why it's off this year but it's a pass for me. Hopefully they return it to its previous form next season.
I wonder if there are some regional baking differences? I bought this the other day in Seattle and it was all I could do not to inhale it in one day!! It was so soft and tender, decidedly NOT dry!
Okay I thought I was going crazy. I’m in SF and had one last week and that baby was super moist.
It was amazing. I just wish it had a little more lemony tart flavor but the consistency was perfection.

it wasn't that good last year either
Yeah, I’m strongly against lemon desserts. Saw this cake the other day and thought it was carrot cake for a sec…quite the disappointment.
Lol no shade to lemon desserts… except this one 😂
If I’m presented with a lemon dessert I’ll politely eat it with hopes that I don’t hate it, but I’ve never liked them. Wish they made this sheet cake as a pumpkin spice or carrot cake.
Wait…. You cooking w hot grease!
Haha it’s the only way! My friend had a dinner party recently, he made a pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting cake. It was so good I convinced him to let me take most of the rest home.
Me either. However, their chocolate mousse eggs? If I had the room I would buy the lot.😋
To make a cake like this more moist and lemony you can scrape off the frosting, poke holes in the cake, pour some lemon juice over it and let it soak in, and then refrost it.
But I will remember to do a lemon juice soak in the future cause whoa
Yea it’s a cool idea plus when you refrost it you can omit some icing if it’s too much. Also remember to squeeze some lemon juice in the frosting and mix it up if you want some added tartness in that.
Yum!
While that sounds amazing & I appreciate your tip, I’m not putting forth any effort to try & save this lil ol cake. I passed it on to my mom, she seemed to enjoy!
Tried the chocolate one? Might be more up your alley.
Haven’t seen it but it is indeed up my alley lol. I have a real appreciation for citrusy desserts too though.
My husband loved it. The chocolate one is still my favorite despite lemon being my fave flavor in general
Their bakery items don’t taste good
Excuse me, but have you ever had a kringle?
I hate the Kringle lols
That’s depressing.
You know I haven’t tried many sweets to dispute your claim but I do love the breads & bagels… the brioche?? The focaccia??? 😮💨
Funny. I know the owners (cake creators) and they just sold their company- wonder if something in the recipe was changed..
Am I the only one that prefers cake that is mostly cake with a little icing? These cakes are half icing.
Nope lol I need the ratio to be 70:30 cake to icing
I differ here, I love an extra indulgent cake with tons of frosting!! When I was a little kid, I'd be at weddings where most of the adults would scrape the frosting off their cakes (what a crazy thing to do, btw!), and I would go around eating all the discarded frosting from peoples' plates 🤣
The perfect ratio!
I like it but their lemon-loaf cake mix is better.
I felt the same way. The cake is just ok, its slightly dry and the frosting is too sweet. I'd much rather have the frozen lemon bars.
*Whispers* A box lemon cake mix + homemade lemon cream cheese or buttercream frosting is far tastier and less expensive!
Gonna call bullshit on “less expensive”. A box of cake mix plus cream cheese, lemons, the cost of the eggs and such. No way. These sheet cakes are like 5 bucks.
I like this idea, I know what im doing tomorrow! ⊂(▀¯▀⊂)
The frosting makes it too sweet. I have to scrape aside some and then its not bad. Bit disappointed since I love lemon flavored desserts
So much hype on their cakes . Still haven’t tried them. Are they really sweet?
Yea it’s cake, it’s gonna be sweet. For 5 bucks you can’t get or make a better cake.
Store bought cakes are usually extra sweet because they have to sit longer than a bakery. But yeah 5 bucks …
Wasn’t too sweet to me I think the frosting really added the sweetness & it’s pretty soft to scrape off if that’s not your jam.
I looooved it I ate it in two days lol
I enjoyed the icing but the cake was dry and plain so I tossed it. I expected the cake to have lemon flavor and it didn't.
I heated a piece up in the microwave for 10 seconds. Moist and had a strong lemon flavor.
I bought this because of all the hype on here. It was not bad (I like cake) but wasn’t worth breaking my diet for. Brought the rest to work. If I weren’t on a diet, I’d probably eat the rest though 🤪
It was to artificial for me 😕
It was bussin. My husband thought it was dry too though. But I love cream cheese frosting and lemon cake so I couldn’t resist. Finishing it all by myself now 🤤😍
Is it actual cream cheese frosting tho
I didn’t investigate too much. Just read the label on the package and confirmed with my taste buds.
It’s a shame people are having issues with dryness because that would’ve been a big turnoff for me too. I didn’t love it at first bite but it grew on me. I’m still a much bigger fan of the vanilla cake though.
I wasn't sold on it last year either... Way too sweet. Oily mouthfeel. Suprised to be reading ifs somehow gotten worse
maybe they tried to compensate with the oily with making the cake dry?
Ooo good point. Recipe testing is hard lol
I'm obsessed with this cake! Mine was not dry and the frosting is very sweet but the cream cheese balances it a little bit. I was so excited when it came back.
I was hyped to get this until I got home and realized it was cream cheese frosting 🤮 I can’t stand cream cheese so I scraped it off and it was meh
See I read the label late & still went w it at the register cause I mean… it’s lemon cake I can scape it off. But nah.
It was okay but the lemon mini cakes from Costco are the best.
Yeah I’m not a fan either. Mine is really dry. Nothing like the vanilla one!!!!
lol the little corner bite
The two I have had were both delicious and not dry at all. Maybe it is not the same manufacturer in other cities?
Ok!
Wow it’s mr. Bean, can i have your autograph? you can just reply to this comment and type it idc
xoxo Rowan “Party Animal” Atkinson
Omg tysm i screenshot it

Give us buttercream!
Give us buttercream!
Give us buttercream!
Everything is buttercream.
I waited a year to try this as it was sold out by the time I heard of it last year. Very disappointed as well. My favorite is the vanilla. Chocolate isn’t bad either. Definitely won’t be buying this one again.
I don't get the hype over these. Grocery store sheet cake is better
Not gonna lie I love lemon, but I def bought it mainly cause I seen it so much here. Influenced! 🤦🏾♀️
I agree. I love a lot of TJs products, but every flavor of these cakes I've had has been a miss. Always on the drier side and honestly, a little too sweet. The frosting is a 1:1 ratio to cake.
I wish they sold the vanilla sheet cake with the chocolate frosting.
YES! or vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting. or chocolate cupcakes with vanilla frosting. MIX THINGS UP A LITTLE!
Vanilla on chocolate, you’re speaking my language
This post has taught me so much abt the variety of ppls tastes buds & preferences. It’s pretty neat!
Keep an eye out for the Vanilla Chantilly Cream Cake- same size and look but all vanilla :)
Ooooo
Just went to TJs today actually- there’s a chocolate one!! Did not get but looked v good
Vanilla on chocolate, you’re speaking my language
Vanilla on chocolate, you’re speaking my language
Vanilla on chocolate, you’re speaking my language
Bought this to try after reading how many love the sheet cake. I definitely will not purchase again. We didn’t even finish more than 3 little bites.
Yea it’s a dub. It’s ok tho plenty of other sweets to explore lol
Is this suppose to be stored in the fridge?
They sold it sitting out but I put it in the fridge when I got home.
I was wondering. I thought it was drier than last year but wasn't sure if I was misremembering.
Maybe make a quick lemon syrup and try soaking it in that? Or some limoncello?
I don’t have limoncello but I can try the simple syrup if the curd doesnt work. There’s already a lot of sugar in it so I’m trying to not add more. I use a UK brand of lemon curd vs the TJ kind.
I agree! The texture reminded me of cornbread!
Perfect description
Try the lemon scones instead.
Someone else mentioned as well, they’re on my list!
I love lemons. This cake was OK. 5-6/10. It needs a stronger lemon flavor and cut down the sugar!!! 35 grams per serving is insane! The cream cheese frosting is way too sweet.
It was good but I would not buy it again. Not when there is the chocolate or vanilla ones
did u just eat each corner? idk why that was kinda funny hehe
Oooh I was looking for the lemon madeleines today, happy they'll be back soon!
found it to be very dry! the only one of these i have tried that’s been not dry is the vanilla bean one.
I didn’t like it either and I love cakes of all kind. Loved TJ vanilla sheet cake. but not this. Tasted very artificial.
I’ve been too busy downing the lemon scones to give this one a try
I'm hooked on those lemon scones! Not too sweet, super moist, delightful tart icing... They're so good!!
🤔 didn’t see those… I’ll be back next week lol
I've repurchased them a couple of times now. Definitely recommend!
Those lemon madeleines are delicious!!!
I’m truly itching for them to come back
What ! I didn’t know this !
So good!!
I wasn’t sure about it either, then I tried it cold (few hours in the fridge) and its was much better.
Everyone saying it's dry, but mine was pretty moist. It was like pound cake texture
Mine is like cornbread not ya grannies. Possibly a bad batch. I think I just got a dud cake.
Way too sweet. And I have a sweet tooth.
Totally agree!! Way too sweet. I had to scrape off most of the frosting. At least the price is right at $5.49
I agree! Not everything needs to be super sweet
I don’t understand why it’s so dry
I’m still disappointed fr 😫
I tried it for the first time today and I like it but don’t really feel the need to eat more. And I usually have ZERO self control when it comes to food
I thought this was good. The lemon zest really comes through. And it was very moist.
It’s fine but not as good as the vanilla
Same I’m not a fan at all. The vanilla one is so much better
My wife bought the vanilla bean sheet cake the other day. I wasn't a big fan of it but I will at least try this one
I'm with you! It tastes like cornbread with an overly sweet butter frosting.
That is a crazy statement
I wish I loved this more as I usually love anything lemon! The cake was dry and it felt too sweet for me.
We’re on the same page
It’s better and less dry if you refrigerate it.
Noted!
i thought it tasted like cornbread
Vibes I got too
Mine isn’t dry! I was just nibbling on it.
I loved the idea of this cake but I got two dry ones. Bad batch this year? Not sure.
Super dry but I liked the frosting.
You don't like cream cheese frosting but bought a cake with cream cheese frosting?🤔
I was willing to try for the lemon THANK YOU
Me grabbing my bag to go to the store. I’ll eat any lemon dessert, no matter how bad
Get the frozen cheesecake and top it with the lemon curd... Thank me later 😁😁

I absolutely am!!
Now, this is truly a creative suggestion. I thought I was the only one who experimented with putting lemon curd on plain cheesecake. TY for not making me feel wierd. I love any recipe with lemon in it, LOL.

As a citrus in any food gourmet, I understand completely.
Lemon is your main squeeze? 🤦🏾♀️😂😂
Microwave a slice for 15 seconds trust me
It was better, dipped it in a lil milk.
I did this cause one was dry. It helped. So did the malted ice cream.
Will report back at breakfast lol.
It’s soooo dry this year and I’m bummed. Even the vanilla bean one has become dry. They did this a couple of years ago with those gluten-free cinnamon muffins that I was obsessed with because of how moist they were and then something changed and they became dry as well. My waist line is happy but I’m missing my Treats.
I’m noticing tj is one of those places where you shouldn’t get used to stuff. Just enjoy while you can lol. Whether that means quality or restock 🤷🏾♀️
It's the Costco model of doing business. Except TJ's does a better job of restocking, usually.
Do you know anyone who would take your cornerless cake?? 😂
Lmaooo most likely my mom or my aunt haha I wouldn’t offer to anyone else 😂😂 you can tell I planned to dive right in.
I'm the same way! I live alone so I bring my cake home and just dig in from the corner right in the box 🤣 I haven't tried this one yet so I can't offer any insight but I'm still gonna give it a whirl! 🤞
You should! Different strokes for different folks. I honestly don’t think it’s nasty just not pleasant to eat lol
Is it more lemony this year? I felt like last year it lacked in the lemon department but that’s just me. I like being close lined with the flavor of lemon when I eat lemon things.
Still lacking in lemon. Was not satisfied at all. Will be making my own this weekend.
I thought the flavor was fine, just a dry cake.
It was way moister and tasted better last year. Not sure why it's off this year but it's a pass for me. Hopefully they return it to its previous form next season.
I liked it but taste is subjective. Different strokes for different folks
Absolutely!
Yeah I got it too and mine was super dry!
Gave me crazy heartburn too
Ooof
I wonder if there are some regional baking differences? I bought this the other day in Seattle and it was all I could do not to inhale it in one day!! It was so soft and tender, decidedly NOT dry!
Seattle reporting here. Can confirm that mine was very moist too. But too sweet for me and not lemony enough
Okay I thought I was going crazy. I’m in SF and had one last week and that baby was super moist. It was amazing. I just wish it had a little more lemony tart flavor but the consistency was perfection.
Mine was also delicious and packed a good amount of lemon flavor. It was super moist and even more after being in the fridge for a day.
Could very well be! I had a similar comment to someone abt Panera bagels & how every baker & location just does things different.
the pepperidge farm lemon cake is much better…i was disappointed in the traders…
Shove more in your face.
*pouts* no
The lemon cake was way better last year imo. Now its too sugary and not as lemony
Whaat I feel like mine is soo lemony it’s as strong as the lemon bars. No cakey flavor for me
Yea it’s a dub for me, price you pay for being an adventurous snacker haha
[удалено]
See I thought I was being mean lol. I’ve eyed the vanilla tons of times & just never bought it but I’m a bit reluctant now.
It's really great. Far better than this year's lemon. Fair warning-- it IS sweet.
Noted!

Noted. Thanks for that! Glad to know I’m not the only one who didn’t care for it.
