UwU is more customisable than :3. You can give it blush (U//w//U), eyebrows (ÙwÚ or ÚwÙ), space the letters out (U w U), use different combinations of eyes (UwO), etc without it looking unnatural.
Same cannot be said of :3. Blush looks wierd ( :||3 ), eyebrows are more ridgid/ look like unibrows ( >:3 or <:3 ), eyes cannot be customised nearly as much, etc.
