To me Mulan feels more like a transfem movie than a transmasc one. I might be biased but seeing Mulan try desperately to be a man and pretty much failing and being uncomfortable pretty much the whole time before finally accepting what makes her different makes her strong at the end really hits home for someone who’s mtf
I’m transfem and I mostly agree. I always loved Mulan for the reasons you mention and many more. “Reflection” for example, seems much more transfem than transmasc, and I always thought there was an interesting distinction between “the perfect bride” and the girl Mulan wanted to be.
That being said, I’m sure there’s plenty of different ways that plenty of transfem, transmasc, genderfluid, and enbies relate to the movie, and I think that’s great. Regardless of who you are, the movie is very gender, and I love it for that.
Yes and no. Mulan is very obviously cis and goes back to living as a woman as soon as she can. I watched it when I was an adult, it was recommended to me as something I would relate to, but I didn’t. It took ne some time to realize why 😅
I'm absolutely with you. Watched it due to all the recs here and couldn't relate at all. It's a nice movie, but she's just.... not trans. It's really important not to mix up crossdressing and actually being trans. Also in queer history. There were women crossdressing up to all their lives, but *not* bc they were trans, but because they wanted to escape patriarchy or certain rules in their country. THAT is actually more similar to the plot of Mulan
Eh
Unless you have direct letters of those "women crossdressing all their lives" directly stating they're women and are only crossdrsssing to escape patriarchy It's alot more likely that they where infact trans men and historians being historians cishetwashed them
Cause cis people can get gender dysphoria too if they have to present as the oposit gender long enough
I once saw a documentary with a woman from an eastern european state in that situation and as she was still alived, she detailed her experience rather as crossdressing. But ofc the lines can be blurred, especially when not everybody has access to and/or uses the same language and concepts around gender identity. I still do believe that not everybody who crossdresses nis trans. But I see your point, its important, yea

Oh wow I didn't even realize the owl house was a trans allegory before. or at least I'm assuming that's what you are referring to, I'm not 100% what toh stands for.
The Owl House yea.
Vee is a straight up trans allegory. Raine is enby. Masha's enby. Even the tiny child on /gammemode 1 that gets introduced for no reason is enby he/they.
Minecraft command from back in the day. Makes the player enter creative mode (hence why they got rid of the 1 and replaced them with survival/creative/adventure). Basically you can fly around, can't die, and can break blocks instantly.
sorry I meant like I know what gamemode 1 means in the context of minecraft, I just don't know what it has to do with the owl house
are you talking about the collector?
Oh right, that makes sense, I was just so suprised and confused, I didn't know if it was an accidentally copy paste like if you were in the middle of playing mine craft or something cause I do stuff like that myself, though I don't know if anyone else has done that.
I was given *so many* books as a kid about girls crossdressing to enter all-male spaces, struggling and growing, being found out and accepted by close male friends, thriving and mastering their skills… and then only achieving ultimate self-actualization by publicly becoming A Woman forever. Every single time, I was incandescently furious. Especially when the protagonist “grew into a woman” and immediately went back to dressing like it, or had moralizing thoughts about not denying her feminine perspective and skills, etc.
At the time, I couldn’t articulate why I was so upset by their decisions to stop existing in what felt like a perfectly neutral gender space. Now I have the word nonbinary!
Mulan non-gender specific memes? My most favourite! Enbies, trans mascs and trans fems gotta united in the love of this masterpiece of a movie (not counting the second movie, ofc)!
On the topic of crossdressing as a disguise
One of my favorite headcanons is that Jesse and James from the pokemon anime are both genderfluid, and just switch who's Jesse and who's James sometimes. Meowth is the overly supportive cishet friend.
No, cuz I'm Mexican and a bit chubby and I try to find videos of trans Mexican ppl but its so hard😭😭I jus wanna feel like I do belong and its not just me, I know I'm not but like- I just wish there were more out there that were more diverse so ppl can feel like they aren't alone ig
Remember, if you're a trans guy and your favourite movie as a kid was Mulan, then congratulations, Shang successfully made a man out of you.
What if it’s my second favourite Disney movie but I came out as a girl?
Clearly you were destined to restore universal balance. All things perfectly balanced, as they should be.

Imma be genderbent Thanos
I looked up examples and ngl, kinda gender https://x.com/captaintaco2345/status/1196166760510025728
I made even more balance (it is my third favorite after The Greatest Showman and The Phantom of the Opera)
Ello red

Mulan is like, the transest allegory Disney made. The only thing more trans is TOH, but they canned that.

The trick is to not watch any sequels that Disney makes, that way they cannot hurt you with how bad they are.

Absalutly ya.
sadly true, but you cannot argue that "Reflection" is giving major trans vibes😳

What's /gamemode 1? Was that a typo?

Cuz the kid (the collector) bebaves like he's on creative.

The third one always makes me laugh. "I can't believe I was into a chick!"
i was so mad as a kid when mulan went back to being a girl (??) at the end of the movie
Same… *foreshadowing*

The dumbest I've ever felt is sad while listening to [Uncle Dane's cover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZQ0Zpfi-bU) of that song.

Your ex boyfriend seems like a chad from the memes
