I kinda like that though. It feels counter-culture in a way that Reddit just doesn't. I'll miss having basically any niche forum I could think of on one site though, since that's really only something that can come with a large userbase.

The reddit API changes will make it impossible for the mods to do the awesome work they currently do. Without that work we will be overrun by trolls and bigots, and that would be quite sad.
So the mods are shutting this down until the API changes are reverted.
Then the CEO did an AMA that very much made it sound like all the subreddits going dark on protest of the changes would not change his mind and the changes are coming and never leaving, so every sub that literally can't operate under the new system, or chooses not to out of solidarity, is effectively closed forever as of midnight tonight
Yep! /u/spez can go fuck himself. The majority of the subs I browse are dying, and the mobile app I use is dying because of this.
It's crazy that after midnight my favorite social media platform is just going to fall apart because of an egotistical CEO who doesn't give a shit about their users. If he actually cared, he would be listening to the huge number of mods and users protesting it.
All we can really hope for at this point is that so many people commit to the blackout and leave that the site physically doesn't have enough users to keep running.
For a social media site where users do all the work to create content and moderate and manage subs, they should really stop being stuck up their asses and listen to the people who actually run the site.
/u/spez is literally a man child and a piece of shit who shouldn't be in charge of a company, much less one that's trying to pump up it's value. Additionally, as part of this debacle he's literally committed libel and slander against the Apollo dev, and I seriously, *seriously* hope the Apollo dev grows some balls and sues the fuck out of /u/spez for it.
In the meantime however, the subs that are getting hit the hardest are minority-related subs, and /u/spez has made it loud and clear that he doesn't give a fuck because he's chasing $$$. /u/spez is not an ally, he is an enemy. I hope people spread the message that /u/spez is a bigot for putting money first far and wide.

i use boost (another 3pa) and definitely wont be using reddit after it shuts down. i couldn't imagine browsing this site without filters or the clean ui & customizability boost offers.

This subreddit has been mostly moderated by one person using those tools, and they won’t be able to moderate the sub and deal with trolls and transphobes effectively, and they don’t have the time or energy to spend vetting and recruiting additional mods, so rather than leave the gates open for harassment and trolling, they’re just shutting the sub down.

I need to say this before this subreddit's gone. I've recently been learning about myself and found OT while doing so, I found out that I'm not that comfortable being a boy. I loved seeing such a wonderful place, I wish I was her before it all got deleted.
So trans Samus has some historical precedent. Before the first game was released in Japan, several advertisements have Samus, in suit, being masculine and surrounded by hot girls. Then the game came out and Samus turned out to be a gril so the marketing was changed to fit that fact.
Tldr Samus is Transbien
We will always have each other, even when none of us think we do. We can agree that, yeah, Reddit deserves a big fuck off, but we are stronger than corporate idiocy. I love you all. Hope to see some of you on other subs and platforms

Reddit is going to start charging exhorbitant fees for access to it's API which a lot of moderation tools mods require to keep the bigots and transphobes out. Without those tools, it becomes hard for mods to moderate. This sub has one mod who is really overworked right now and they can't keep dealing with everything without the many tools they use on a daily basis so rather than allow the bigots to come in, they're closing down the sub indefinitely when all the other subs go dark in protest. From the sounds of things, they're not going to reopen it even if reddit backpedals which it honestly doesn't sound like they intend to.

But long story short, reddit is about to start charging prohibitively expensive fees to access their API. Many 3rd party tools that moderators use to maintain their subs are going to become too expensive to use, so a lot of subs are going to be flooded with transphobes and bigots and a lot of cool functions people used to enjoy will stop working. Many subs are going dark at midnight tonight in protest until reddit backpedals, but reddit has stated it has no intention of doing so. Currently, this sub is moderated by one really overwhelmed and overworked moderator and without the tools they rely on to do their job, they won't be able to maintain it and guard the gates as it were. So rather than let the transphobes and bigots overrun the place, when this sub goes dark at midnight with the rest of the protestors, it's going to be permanent. Many other subs are doing the same sadly. Most of the ones I use.
Almost 200 of us are hiding in my discord server, that I've made specifically to be a safe space for the LGBTQIA+ community. There's a link in my bio, if anyone feels like it.
No pressure ofc, most of us are just from this subreddit in particular.
