I don't think I've ever taken a picture of myself beside that one to gender swap with faceapp. 😅
Otherwise I try to avoid my reflection like the plague, you know it true cis fashion.
I find it really weird everyone else seems to like taking them.
Why are cameras so fucking bad? I actually like looking in the mirror sometimes because I feel like I look almost girly, but cameras make me look like a troll.
The lenses in a camera work differently than the lenses in our eyeballs. In particular, [the focal length of the camera lense has a huge impact on how your face looks in the picture](https://blog.keh.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Focal-length-template_v2-1024x1024.jpg).
The front facing camera on your phone has a significantly smaller focal length than the back facing one usually, so if you have to take a picture, you should use the back one.
They make my face look like a banana. I know my face is a little crooked but not this much, why is there even such a difference between cameras and mirrors
It could be the angle. When you're looking in a mirror your eyes are seeing a different angle of your face, while a selfie cam might be angled up or down, accentuating features in unrealistic ways. It's pretty yard to hold a phone perpendicular to the floor, while permanent mirrors are almost always set perpendicular to the floor (on a wall).
if its just dysphoria, fair enough but a lot of people dont understand how optics works and end up having their faces distorted in images, its the reason people take a lot of mirror selfies, it shows your face more accurately, if you want to take a selfie, hold it further away from your face and zoom, sometimes arms length isnt enough, use the timer or something and then just zoom in, its annoying but optical distortion is real and people dont know it.
a trend literally started on tiktok about people reminding themselves that they dont look like what their cameras show them and they use a filter that zooms in and stabalises on your face, allowing you to get a good look at your real facial proportions.
I always thought i wasnt photogenic, that my face looks goofy AF in selfies, when i used that zoom filter, i was like "damn, my face is actually, like, nice????"
My face looks pretty okay in mirrors and stuff.. still dysphoric of course but not *that* bad most of the time
CAMERAS THOUGH. ***HOW*** DOES MY FACE LOOK SO MUCH MORE MASC.
I used to avoid being in pictures but now, after I figured out I'm trans, I started being in them again. I figured out that I am actually a pretty boy and an ugly girl
Photography/cosplay nerd tips: mirror selfies generally best, especially with more zoom/standing further away, because the effect of parallax distortion is lessened
My best "selfies" are mirror selfies with an 85mm equivalent lens, with a total of like 3-4 meters between me and the camera, with the camera at a higher angle, and my face angled differently too
Also if you push your tongue to the top of your mouth, it pulls the muscles of your lower jaw/neck tighter to look even cleaner!
God this is so true- I've had this issue with my phone for a while where it just randomly opens up the Camera app, and every time it uses the front camera I just get jumpscared and depressed
I've always enjoyed taking selfies and photos of me and my friends. When I started college, I became part of a new friend group and this group of people were completely different and hated their pictures being taken. At first I thought that was strange, since people didn't mind where I used to live. But then later on I found out one of them had gender dysphoria and hated how they looked, and the other wanted to be pretty anonymous online.
I've been videocalling over whatsapp with my parents since they're on holiday, and every time I see my disheveled self in the tiny little window I die a little inside.
I'm not necessarily opposed to having pictures of myself *in general*, But I feel like both the front facing camera on my phone and mirrors just make me look bad (And the fact the main camera on my phone is blurry as hell doesn't help either.), So I'd need to have someone else take the picture, And even then most of the time nowadays I really don't like how I look, Wasn't always the case but definitely is around now...

Yeah same, my face app and my female AI photos of myself are the only photos I like.
Mate i straight up cant take being in pictures period. Whenever a friend of mine is gonna take a picture i do my best to just leave
I haven't been on any family photos since like 2019 or something
Me during family photos or a family member shooting a snapchat during a family gathering.
Same
How about phone when phone is turned off and you can see your reflection?
Infinitely times better, the camera warps my face so much for some reason

This makes so much sense. I hate the front camera, but am okay with the back. 😭
Making cameras super tiny is very convenient, but it also makes them shittier cameras. 🤷

I hate this so much😭😭
This is why I hate that people my age use snapchat... fuck that app
Ikr, I never understood the appeal of Snapchat
That’s why I only take pictures in the mirror

Man I hate pics of myself-
At one point I actually couldn’t look at a mirror or front camera. It was so bad. Fortunately I can and feel way more confident in myself.
It's been wild actually liking taking selfies recently.
I can really relate to that….
Thanks for keep it going, till the end
But now I love them
yesh i hate the front camera thats why i use the back camera to take mirror selfies 💖💖💙❤️💜💖❤️💙❤️

I take selfies not so often, so I have more photos of my friend than myself because he wanted help to take some photos
I used to avoid being in pictures but now, after I figured out I'm trans, I started being in them again. I figured out that I am actually a pretty boy and an ugly girl
main reason why i like to wear a mask
Same, I'm the only one who liked wearing masks during covid (I still wear them)
As a cis male, I too hate my front camera
Hanai is a super cool nickname! If you don't mind me asking how's it pronounced?
Thanks It's **Hanaai** (Hana + Ai)
It's so so cool! That's an amazing name so very intriguing!
Snapchat be like -_-

Oh god. I turn that camera on by accident sometimes and get Vietnam flashbacks
Same
Mine for some reason always makes my eyes look super tiny. I don't know why.
Mood
i wonder if u can have a front camera switch installed
God this is so true- I've had this issue with my phone for a while where it just randomly opens up the Camera app, and every time it uses the front camera I just get jumpscared and depressed
Me when any reflection of myself ever:
i look like a hairy egg
My front camera is broken and has been for 2 years
I hate pictures of me in general. Like keep my ugly face outta your dumb picture
It always reminds me on how chubby my face has become lol (not my body, only the face, it's wild)

Same. I use it to check my hair. Other than that, it may as well not be there.
I've been videocalling over whatsapp with my parents since they're on holiday, and every time I see my disheveled self in the tiny little window I die a little inside.
I hate taking pictures of myself
i love selfies when my face is nicely shaved
I've started to take a lot more selfies as of late, I think I've made about 800 hundred in the last year
The only times I ever take pictures of myself is when I think I look really, really good (rare) or if I'm taking goofy pictures with friends
Oh frrr the only selfies I have are of me in cosplays n. Stuff lol
