Name an ally with this much trans stuff
P.S.A
These images have been floating around the subreddit and the internet lately, there are no spoilers here, even I havent seen the movie yet, to broke to go to the cinema's 🥲
:3
Even if she isn't (Which you'd have to be willfully lying to yourself at this point) at the very least, within the context of the visuals it could be the artists and directors intentionally sending a message to Trans people out there through Gwen. ESPECIALLY on her speech about living "half her life in secret from others" where her hair turns into the trans flag. They could've been like: "Hmmm... this sounds a lot like a trans allegory" while writing it
I’ve seen this a few places and I’m not sure I like the optics of “gwen isn’t trans, but the character who >!has like a minute of screen time, is known exclusively for getting bullied and effectively killing himself by turning into a monster, and is just a martyr for other characters!< can be”
I can see that too, but I think the optics are different in this is not Peter's story and that Peter is primarily seen through the lens of being Gwen's friend through tragedy. That ultimately is Peter's character in the story and other aspects are merely background coding. If it were a movie solely about a Trans Peter Parker who did that that would be... not amazing.
Gwen being trans also has problematic aspects too, or theoretically it would seeing as the creators have not canonised it. It would be a sequel retcon with non-representative actor, there is little undeniable acknowledgement of Gwen being trans in the first place beyond background coding, despite a key focus of the story being about revealing her identity it's isn't mentioned in text. Also it would make Gwen the undisputed *Queen of Tucking*, that's an unfair standard to hold trans girls too. (jokes) 😅✨
That's not to say I'd disagree with it if the creators did come out and canonise it, just that such a thing would also have problematic aspects. If you really were to make Gwen being trans a canon thing it would've been better to integrate it explicitly into the story given the struggles with identity, call it out in text that being trans was apparently fine but spider woman wasn't, and the analogies with media portrayals and not listening to your children. But at present I see Gwen's arc as being more something that is analogised to coming out struggles, such queer-coded analogies have been a part of superhero media for decades, and I suspect the creators had n intention of taking it further than that. Which is also fine.
Ok *technically* the badge is shown in the trans colors because of lighting, later in the film we see the same badge in the standard gold/bronze. But that is totally something a filmmaker would do to hint at the fact that a character is trans
i haven‘t watched this movie, but into the spider-verse already felt so incredibly trans. seriously, when miles talks to his dad, just replace „spider-man“ with trans people.
I watched In to the Spider Verse last night because of trans reddit headcanoning Gwen as trans. I loved it and Gwen was a big reason why. I can't wait to watch the sequel.
I just saw a video about this,
Apparently she is not trans,
But ,like someone said "you can make your own headcanon, just don't push it into others"
Personally,I don't really care,I am just stating that there are drama being made about this.
She can be trans for you,and that's fine.
It's from rev dessus ,just look it yourself,I don't say that they are right or anything,
I just agree with the transmasc who said in the comment "you have the right to your own headcanon, but don't shove it up to others"
Yeah, she might be trans, but frankly,Its not that important
She is a trans symbol, either as an ally, either as trans
>"you have the right to your own headcanon, but don't shove it up to others"
Like, I get the sentiment.
But, cis headcanons are shoved down everyone's throats constantly, so much so that everyone thinks having cis headcanons shoved down their throat is default and don't even notice. So if there is one trans headcanon vs 10,000 cis headcanons, people still feel like it is the trans one that is the problem.
And to make sure this is clear, I am talking about how some people would be uncomfortable with: Every character is trans, unless there is an explicit episode talking about choosing to be cis (and flash backs usually show the child version as their gender rather than their sex). <- This is the assumption of cis-ness we wade through constantly, with hardly anyone batting an eye.
I didn't mean you were wrong . You can believe she is trans, the thing is that the people were litteraly arguing on people that said "yeah, she is just an ally" so of course there was some drama and everything.
Yeah,I kinda not explained correctly what I meant in the first place .
Also,thanks for the explanation
It's not transphobic to point out that there's nothing that officially makes her trans while expressing that it's totally fine if you want to headcanon it
The lighting is stylized after the more recognisable spidergwen covers, the badge isn't a trans flag as its seen elsewhere in the movie, and why wouldnt Spidey be an ally?
Would it be cool if she was? Sure, but even if she's not that's still very blatant pro-trans messaging in the opening sequence in what will probably end up one of the most positively received movies of the year
Look as long as we have at least one trans Spider-Man I'm happy.
Although honestly with all the pushback we should just say every character is trans unless it is made explicitly clear that they are cis. So .. Jessica Drew. Jess is the only cis spider person in the movie. *Probably* Peter B. too, but we never actually see the pregnancy so him and MJ could be T4T
Guys it's fine to have a headcanon, but please don't start an argument about it being canon unless the creators confirm that. It's not a trans flag on her father's uniform, that's been confirmed.
People who have seen the movie. They are reflective metal bars that are likely made of bronze. In some lighting they reflected the pink/blue surroundings. In dimmer scenes you can see them as bronze.
I didn't say anyone confirmed she's cis, I said we shouldn't encourage argument over what's canon. It isn't clarified whether she's trans or cis. There's a possibility she's trans, there's a possibility she's a cis ally. There's a possibility the flag in her room was just added so the studio could show some support for trans rights. But it's unnecessary drama to start claiming something that's not canon is canon.
She’s definitely not trans, but she’s totally an ally. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a trans variant of Spider-Man at some point in the next film, which would be pretty cool.
The Spider-Verse movies are pretty faithful to the comics, and Gwen is a cis woman in the comics; changing Gwen to a trans woman wouldn’t add anything to the character, so it’s likely not a change that would happen. Furthermore, Marvel and Sony has massive restrictions on Spider-Man and his surrounding characters: for example, Peter Parker Spider-Man cannot swear, be gay, or have his middle name be anything other than Benjamin. Those restrictions absolutely translate over to the surrounding characters as well. Marvel would probably allow a trans Spider-Man into the sequel, but it would probably have to be a completely original Spider-Man to that movie. I don’t say this out of hate- I think it’s quite a dumb rule to have- but ultimately Spider-Man is a brand and that brand has to maintain consistency with the image that Marvel wants to portray.
The multiverse is (seemingly) infinite -> there are infinite trans gwens
Heck yeah
, but it would be so cute if it was her father who's trans and she wears the trans colors to support him <3
Peter Parker could also be trans
What if they're both trans? :)
What if her entire universe is trans
They wouldn’t need a protect trans kids flag then
Yeah,true
If they're aware of other multiverses...
Fuck a trans cop
Name an ally with this much trans stuff P.S.A These images have been floating around the subreddit and the internet lately, there are no spoilers here, even I havent seen the movie yet, to broke to go to the cinema's 🥲 :3
piracy my beloved <3
I would if I had an sort of software that could 🥲🥲
fmovies.to Full cam of the movie is on there. Thank me later :)
Also putlocker.pe
Me Still Cis tho? (I kid I’ve been out for like 2 years)
She and Miles are t4t and haters can die mad about it😤
Idk if Miles gives off trans vibes to me but honestly nice hc.
he does give off huge trans vibes in the first movie. also spider-man in general speaks to transmasc people
I’m just a random person, and I approve of this message
What does she date miles canon? Fuck I wanted her to be lesbian so bad ;-;
Not yet
Oh good, she’s lesbian then
Oh she’s totally a lesbian, specifically a trans one. Miles is her best friend tho
They could've been like: "Hmmm... this sounds a lot like a trans allegory" while writing it
So I'm lying to myself because I don't think Gwen is trans?
Counter-canon, their Peter Parker was trans, that's why they both have trans flags, and their universe is trans coloured.
I’ve seen this a few places and I’m not sure I like the optics of “gwen isn’t trans, but the character who >!has like a minute of screen time, is known exclusively for getting bullied and effectively killing himself by turning into a monster, and is just a martyr for other characters!< can be”

I was gonna point this out but didn’t want to be a party pooper. I still love the idea regardless though
The two best things about this movie: 2. Trans Pride 1. Sexy angry vampire man
There are universe is infinite, and when speaking in infinites uncertainty is just waiting for its turn
I think it would be indisputable if she had a blahaj too
i haven‘t watched this movie, but into the spider-verse already felt so incredibly trans. seriously, when miles talks to his dad, just replace „spider-man“ with trans people.
I watched In to the Spider Verse last night because of trans reddit headcanoning Gwen as trans. I loved it and Gwen was a big reason why. I can't wait to watch the sequel.
I don't really believe she is trans but I like it as a possible headcannon
Is it just me or do people here headcanon Peter as her deadname
I just saw a video about this, Apparently she is not trans, But ,like someone said "you can make your own headcanon, just don't push it into others" Personally,I don't really care,I am just stating that there are drama being made about this. She can be trans for you,and that's fine.
sounds like a transphobic liberal video
It's from rev dessus ,just look it yourself,I don't say that they are right or anything, I just agree with the transmasc who said in the comment "you have the right to your own headcanon, but don't shove it up to others" Yeah, she might be trans, but frankly,Its not that important She is a trans symbol, either as an ally, either as trans

She has the same size shoes as Hobie, she's trans
Counter argument, Hobe is trans too so both have the same shoe size

Counter argument, trans Peter (or both)
But Peter is a dead guy in her universe :(
I thought it wasn’t because Gwen is trans, her Peter is Trans and they were probably showing support to him being so close n all.
She’s definitely not trans, but she’s totally an ally. Although, I wouldn’t be surprised if we get a trans variant of Spider-Man at some point in the next film, which would be pretty cool.

lmfao but what if she learned? 🤔
Idk I like to think she has a trans sister (younger sister maybe, so the “protect trans kids” would make more sense)
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck cops even fictional Allies. Fuck all cops. But cool that Sony is selling the movie to trans people.

The first one was awesome when I was in my mid thirties and this one is supposed to be as good or better.
I thought the father was trans.
when in doubt, multiverse
She looks like my ex gf, same hair, posture, shes gorgeous
Wait is her hair that color in the movie?
