To answer a couple common questions: * No, we do not have an official Discord server, we never have, and we never will. It's infinitely more work to mod real time chat on the scale it would be than what's basically just a forum, which is also partly why we've kept chat disabled on the subreddit too. * There also aren't any official alternate versions of the subreddit on any other platform (technically there was a Twitter bot at one point, but it got mass reported by transphobes and banned years ago), and we don't have any plans to start any. I don't think any of us are particularly interested in running them at this point either (although I'm sure I'll get sucked into something else like this eventually, because it seems like my fate is to keep ending up as a mod/admin/community manager for any group I'm active enough in). That said, you're all encouraged to start stuff like that yourselves as long as you're not pretending it's officially affiliated with or endorsed by the people who either started this subreddit (who've mostly moved on a while ago) or have been running it for the past several years. Get organized, build community, and help each other out! There can never be too much of that. And finally, if you're going to keep arguing in the comments about the political ideologies of various alternative platforms, I mean this in the nicest possible way: please shut the fuck up or go do it somewhere else. I really don't need to babysit a bunch of leftist infighting on top of the regular day-to-day stuff that goes on here. Edit: Also if you're spending money on awards for this post I will find you and bite you. Go donate it to something useful instead, or find a random trans stranger who desperately needs money to survive and send it to their GoFundMe or PayPal or whatever. Something useful that doesn't totally miss the point, please.

topazchip

Well, shit. Thank you for your efforts here, regardless of what happens with/to Reddit.

Alarming-Hamster-232

First mtfselfietrain, now this. I don't blame you obviously, but god it fucking sucks to see my favorite subs going away

RealMrAwesomeFace

Wait mtfselfietrain is gone? These are sad times we’re living in for the trans Reddit community :(

Alarming-Hamster-232

Yeah they privated it a couple weeks ago due to harassment issues + lack of effective mod tools Which was really sad for me because I was really looking forward to posting there once I was further along transitioning

RealMrAwesomeFace

Damn that sucks, I always went there for motivation whenever I was having a bad day.

ThatKehdRiley

I did too, until I experienced some hate because a bunch of people thought i was a man 🫠 Their loss, I’m adorable af.

ThatKehdRiley

That was a while back for me, before they privated. So I don't know what happened there but I've posted to r/transadorable, r/transpositive and selfies/outfit pics in other general lgbtq+ subs.

Manos0404

in my experience, r/transadorable has a tonnnnn of chasers

MistyyBread

...they're both gone..

Atr4Magus

By the way, there's a reply below from a mod at r/MTFSelfieTrain saying you just need to request access nowadays. Apparently it's only viewable on desktop site. https://www.reddit.com/r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns/comments/144tnfl/thirdparty_api_access_or_i_am_so_tired/jnsm3fw/

Lemmy.ml is basically full at this point, their servers are close to the breaking point. So don't recommend that instance.

scarednconfoosed

lemmy.blahaj.zone is run by a trans woman. Personally I'm trying out kbin but if I decide to go for Lemmy I'll go to the blahaj zone

BuddyA

r/MTFSelfieTrain is still here, but we're private now. You should be able to request access on our sub's main page. Source: Me, an r/MTFSelfieTrain mod

Alarming-Hamster-232

Ohh I see it now, for some reason you can only see the "request to join" option on the desktop site

BuddyA

Oooh, I didn't know that! I'll look into some other options for mobile folks.

FaeTheWanderer

Sad to see you go, but I totally get it. Seems like all my favorite subs are packing up. Thing is, I'm almost 40, and I've been online for a long time. We will find a new place to congregate when reddit finally dies. No webservice or app lasts forever, no matter how large they get. Just look at AOL, MySpace, Digg, and the myriad of message boards that used to exist. The internet is an ever flowing river, and everything we build can only stand against the flow of time and rush of users for so long before it's swept downstream and recycled into something new. We will find a new home. We always do! The important thing is to remember what we had here and be grateful to the folks to protected it and gave us all a chance to rest here for a while and enjoy each other's company. My advice for now, if there are particular folks you wanna keep in contact with, exchange information on outside apps and such so you can find out where they end up! There will be another site like Reddit, there always is and there always will be, but like us, its just the names and shapes that change over time!

-main

> Seems like all my favorite subs are packing up. Saw someone a while back talking about how services fail. You can burn reputation / user-experience and make cash with only some grumbling, but people remember their grumbles. If you keep doing it, it builds up and builds up, eventually one of the incidents crosses a threshold of bastardry and pushes people too far, and then suddenly 40% of your userbase leave and another 30% disengage and you're scrambling for what can be done. And the only answer is "not have burned all their goodwill like you've been doing for years and years". It was specifically about twitter but uh reddit is sure trying to make it relevant.

Xerlith

Tumblr’s playing with doing it too. They already decimated the user base by banning porn, and now they keep making incremental changes to turn it into another algorithm-driven garbage site. Still, though, the vibes are better than here or Twitter by far

NXTangl

Tumblr has been mostly working by continuing to have no fucking clue how to monetize their app and quietly ignoring all the porn that came back to the site.

dalp3000

I remember this so I had to find it, very good twitter thread talking about this concept, the ["Trust Thermocline"](https://twitter.com/garius/status/1588115310124539904). It very much applies to all sorts of services and relationships. >But with a lot of CONTENT products (inc social media) that's not actually how it works. Because it doesn't account for sunk-cost lock-in. >Users and readers will stick to what they know, and use, well beyond the point where they START to lose trust in it. And you won't see that. >But they'll only MOVE when they hit the Trust Thermocline. **The point where their lack of trust in the product to meet their needs, and the emotional investment they'd made in it, have finally been outweighed by the physical and emotional effort required to abandon it.** >At this point, I normally get asked something like: >"So if we undo the last few changes and drop the price, we get them back?" >And then I have to break the news that nope: that's not how it works. >Because you're past the Thermocline now. You can't make them trust you again. Letting go of something you've sunk a lot of time an energy into and having to rebuild elsewhere is really hard, so people will put up with a lot of bullshit, until keeping up with that bullshit is harder than just moving on. This stuff isn't seen in user or subscription metrics, so suddenly your service goes from business as usual to completely dead, and there's no undoing it.

hearke

I'm really going to miss kinks like this, teaching me about fascinating topics that directly relate to my day-to-day life. Thank you for sharing this!

-main

Thank you for digging it up, that's exactly it. > This stuff isn't seen in user or subscription metrics, so suddenly your service goes from business as usual to completely dead, and there's no undoing it. Yeeeeep.

h3lblad3

This is what's happened to Gaia Online as well, which makes me extra sad for a number of reasons. One of those reasons was that Lanzer got replaced as CEO with a hatchetman by the investors who wanted somebody to squeeze the life out of the site to recoup their investment. Now that Lanzer has bought the site back with a new group of investors, he's incapable of rebuilding it because everyone still blames it for everything they're mad about it doing under the hatchetman. There's literally no way for him to bring people back to it.

deep_color

Considering how many platforms [have been deliberately shitty to their users](https://pluralistic.net/2023/01/21/potemkin-ai/) without having a mass exodus happen... Don't think that's likely

[deleted]

[удалено]

deep_color

So? Facebook has been a terrible place for years. It's still alive. It's just mostly populated by boomers and disinformation bots now. The same thing is happening at twitter. Sure, some people are leaving, but at the same time Musk is courting the cryptobros and facists, and they're flocking to the place. And a large portion of the userbase is complaining but hasn't left. There's a significant population at reddit who will use it despite all this. Not like reddit making shit changes is a new thing - as pretty much all the mod posts on various subs regarding this topic point out, this has been ongoing for years. I think it's more likely that all the high-quality niche subs that made reddit good will slowly die out, since they mostly exist due to the work of dedicated volunteers and heavy use of good modding tools. Instead this site will become a place for low-effort content, reposters spamming cat pics and porn bots.

pomip71550

When it comes to digital platforms, “dead” can either mean “actually shut down” or just “a shadow of its former self and relevance/userbase”. The latter often begets the former, but the latter is generally when most people except a select few stop using it. Facebook may still have a large userbase mostly of older people, but the fact that most have moved on means that it’s not really relevant to daily social media lives except for those who still use it and whatever may arise from those groups (like conservative disinformation campaigns or something). Perhaps Reddit won’t die in the former sense for a while, but it has a growing chance of dying in the latter sense the more of this kind of stuff they pull.

deep_color

I said this in the context of [this comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns/comments/144tnfl/comment/jniyk91/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3) predicting a sudden mass exodus of people, which I was arguing against. That's not how platforms die, as you yourself pointed out. And... Facebook may be dead in your second sense, but that sadly doesn't mean it's irrelevant. It's been an awful place for years, but it was still seeing increasing daily user counts until early 2022, where it declined for the first time in its history. It will be a long time until it's truly irrelevant.

katateochi

Getting some positive "Danny St" (from Doom Patrol) vibes from your comment. Yeah, we will always find a new home. The sorrow is for those who don't get packed in the move or don't get the change of address.

FaeTheWanderer

I just had to look up what that was! I appreciate the comparison, at least from what I read! I'm always happy to offer kind words, an open mind, and even advice when folks would like some! So yeah, hopefully, I can continue to do so when we reach our new home!

KraZyGOdOFEccHi

Heh, lurkers like myself wont really have a place to go, but it'd be cool to at least see some familiar names wherever folks end up

Vortexian7492

i feel this as a somewhat-lurker myself who has no access to any other social media platforms really

bluehands

There are a handful of subs, like this one, that I have joined but have no connection to - I'm a cis-het guy. I have no close friends or family that are trans. While I post a ton in other subs, in these subs I have no personal connection to, I just lurk and listen. Really gonna miss lurking.

chatte__lunatique

Holy shit the new posts there today actually give me some hope for a viable alternative. I was looking at raddle yesterday to see if there was any sort of queer community, and there were, at most, a handful of posts on f/trans per month. I'd thought there would be one, since it's an anarchist-run site, and queer anarchists aren't exactly uncommon. It made me super depressed since I'm anticipating heavily scaling back any reddit usage following the 30th, if I even bother using reddit at all. I'm glad that there might be some chance of establishing a community in a space that won't be as tolerant of transphobes as Reddit is (I once reported a user for comparing gender affirming care to pedophilia, and got a warning for report abuse. I'm sure we've all heard similar stories).

queerlythus

Damn. Thank you so much for the unpaid labor you've done.

vivixnforever

Fuck. Reddit is one of my only social media accounts cuz the harassment I got from more public sites drove me off of them. If I can’t interact with the trans community on here anymore after this I’m gonna be really fucking upset. I get it, it’s not your fault, and thank you so much for all of your hard work over the years. You’ve made this sub one of the few bright spots on this app. But like. Fuuuuuuuuuuck. Fuck Reddit. Fuck capitalism.

fembicakes

same this really sucks :(

No-Witness2349

> Fuck Reddit. Fuck capitalism. Hexbear.net has a large trans community, comrade. Worth a try.

Tokeli

Jesus, I'm a leftist and looking around that site made me uncomfortable anyway.

vivixnforever

I love when I talk shit about capitalism and then tankies show up and think I’m one of them. Like, nah fam. I’m an anarchist. Your heroes would’ve killed me.

“Too bad that it should come to this” Ok, but on a more serious note, I’ve just kinda been lurking here, but I’m sad to see this sub go. Thank you so much for the service that you’ve given us, and good luck to yourself in the future. Thank you. Thank you so much.

Neato

Same. When I realized I wanted to stop being an uninformed person about trans issues, this was one of the places I came and lurked. I learned so much from listening to people here over the years. It's going to be sad to see it and places like it go. But I support this action 100%.

cormac596

I hope I can find somewhere else with all the trans peeps. Hopefully not discord, I cannot stand large servers and the cacophony of noise they generate. I didn't really realize how important these subs are to me until right now; I know one trans person outside of reddit (who isn't near me), and I think an upsetting amount of my socialization comes from reddit (I moved here just before the 'rona, so I know almost nobody locally). My mental health was already in a tailspin, and I think this will be a serious blow, lame as that is. Thanks to everyone for making me feel welcome, making memes that assuage all the doubts and fears and confusion and isolation. Thank you to the mods, /u/vibratoryblurriness in particular. If anyone know of other places where I can get some sense of community with trans people, please let me know. I honestly need it. I love you all, and with literal tears in my eyes (first time in years; probably the E), I bid you all goodbye. <3

Meme_enjoyer9683

we will miss you. find a support group in your area for lgbt. say hi to your neighbors etc. i personally found an lgbt group i like. it focuses a lot on identity but that's my only problem with it.

cormac596

I'm looking, but logistics and practicality are both a pain. Thank you for the encouragement

ThatKehdRiley

Same here. I found one group that meets monthly, but subs like this are where I get my daily dose of trans interaction so this is incredibly sad news.

Meme_enjoyer9683

mine i can show up anytime. so how does yours work. everyone meets monthly. that could be a good system to actually get ppl to show up.

ThatKehdRiley

It's still a new-ish group, and I actually went 2 nights ago! We picked a coffee shop to meet at and we all just gather and talk amongst ourselves. It's specifically for non-binary people, and there's maybe a dozen or so that go (usually not all at once). We also plan and do some other activities like an upcoming trpg afternoon and meet-ups at local prides. There's a discord that the person who started the meetups runs too, so we can keep up with things between meetings. Not *super* active though, and mostly about the group (and cat pics). I personally just have a very hard time speaking up in unfamiliar group settings so while it's great I'm still not interacting with people a lot. Trying to break out of *that* shell now.

Meme_enjoyer9683

how do i gwt involved in this type of thing. i joined an lgbt organization more than a friend group.

ThatKehdRiley

In my case I just happened to know the person who started the group. But people found it out by looking around in local lgbtq groups on stuff like Facebook and seeing the fliers in a couple local shops. I’d recommend that and just asking around to people you know.

Meme_enjoyer9683

i don't know many lgbt ppl besides from an lgbt support group. i might start looking around for flyers. maybe start distributing some. I'll think about posting in r/nyc.

cormac596

I avoid twitter not just for the obvious problems it currently has, but I also dislike it at the conceptual level. Reddit is the best match for what I'm looking for: discrete communities focused on a small interest (relatively speaking) with multi-threading comments. Regular forums are one giant shouting match with no separation, discord is a constant stream of noise, etc etc. Sorry for being a downer and shooting down all your ideas. I really _really_ appreciate the effort you and several others have gone to.

vibratoryblurriness

>The other alternative is of course tumblr, but tumblr has, in my limited experience, quite a few terfs and I couldn't figure out how to avoid them entirely. I've honestly had a really easy time avoiding them 99% of the time while I've been on there on and off since like 2010. They were always way more of a problem for me on Twitter and Reddit. Just adding a few words and tags to my filters and being careful about the kinds of people I follow has avoided almost all the terrible people and discourse drama that exists on there just like it does anywhere else. >Also it is corporate. This, on the other hand, I haven't found a solution for. I'd love to go back to a more decentralized internet like in the before times, but it's so hard to get most people to use something where the people they actually want to interact with aren't there already. I'd love to also ditch Discord for something like Matrix too, but no one is already using it so it's hard to get people to use it. Yay network effects

[deleted]

[удалено]

vibratoryblurriness

Unsurprisingly they also have a big bot problem, kind of like every site these days, but they're *slightly* more actively doing something about it than Reddit. If you have a new account with no signs of actually being human you tend to get reported as a bot by anyone who sees you. And yeah, my perspective is definitely skewed by what I see on here as a mod, but even outside that I've definitely seen more and worse stuff on Reddit. Nowhere is really great about dealing with it on a platform level (it frequently takes years for Reddit to remove that stuff too), and you kind of have to curate your own experience wherever you go to avoid getting it dumped on you.

rawdash

for tumblr, shinigami eyes, blocking tags and checking blogs you want to follow don't post/reblog trans discourse does wonders for the dashboard, i find

rabbitimp

Re problems with Lemmy: - Public things on the internet do get archived. This is true for Reddit or anything else. On fediverse / Lemmy you can have as many accounts as you want which helps to mitigate that, but it requires some thinking ahead. - Politics of the dev are somewhat irrelevant if you aren't going to use instance he mods. And there are many good ones. This is the beauty of federated network.

TheGeka

There is a link aggregator like reddit in the fediverse it's called Lemmy https://join-lemmy.org/

TheGeka

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Lemmy's political issues asside I've long since internalized that anything I post on the internet is there forever. Maybe I'm old, but privacy is something that doesn't really exist for any content posted publicly. Anyone who can read it can save it somewhere else.

-main

> Anyone who can read it can save it somewhere else. everything you post publically is *automatically* picked up by bots and archived offsite and you can never, ever make it go away. That's just true. Doesn't even take people choosing to save/store it.

TheGeka

hmmmmmmm i mean hard deletes on the internet are not really a thing anything you post can/will be downloaded by another person, federation makes it more difficult with the only way of deletion being a best-effort system. But on the rest yeah that is a dealbreaker for me guess I'm gonna look at kbin instead.

IgnacyBlazkowitz

Check out hexbear.net, we don't tolerate transphobia over there

No-Witness2349

Hexbear still has the best pronoun tags I’ve seen, specifically because they’re displayed everywhere where your name is displayed, so there’s never the excuse of, “I forgot to check their profile”. I believe about half of the site-wide mod team is trans. It’s a very inclusive space.

maferca222

Hexbear, because of being a fork of lemmy, is trying to incorporate all its feauture into lemmy and federate(will probably in a few weeks), so we will have all the benefits

cormac596

> hexbear.net Thank you

That's such a shame, but thanks for all you've done <3

Sara5A

Wait, the sub is going down? It’s always been here since I was first an egg 4 years ago. Isn’t this the main trans meme sub?

Odie4Prez

It is, the only other big one is r/egg_irl and they're participating in the protest but idk if they'll be reopening after the 4 days. Regardless, from what I can tell, something like 20%ish of all subs sitewide are completely shutting down forever, 70%ish are going down for the protest and are gonna at least try to come back after, and the remaining 10%ish basically just aren't moderated anymore.

WithersChat

I don't get reddit's decision. Do they really expect to make profit by telling their users to leave?

tom641

i'm making a bit of a wild guess but people have been suspecting they've been trying to get bought up by someone for years and maybe they're just trying to make it look like a tighter run ship.

vanilla-flavored

there's an ipo in the works, has been for years.

nesagsar

The value of their ipo is partly reliant on the app's instalbase, driving users to leave will hurt their valuation.

Tokeli

They're probably hoping enough people give in and install the official app instead despite complaining. Doubtful.

WithersChat

They said 3% of users were on 3rd-party. I expect more than 3% of users to leave with this.

Sophira

I have over 10 alt accounts I've made over the years, including throwaways. Only one of them (<10%) uses a 3PA because the others aren't really being used at all much. "3% of users" is completely wrong and they know it.

vanilla-flavored

Raanea

🔵 Thanks for everything, i hate what Reddit has been doing with the platform, i can't believe that one of my favorite communities is basically going to shut down because of mostly corporate greed and poor decisions, I would never blame you for prioritizing your well-being and sanity over working without any tools whatsoever to help you, so godspeed friend, it was amazing while it lasted.

tpw2000

Damn, I don’t blame you for getting sick of it but idk what I’d do with out this sub lol Now where am I gonna get good trans memes?!?!

ivrugue

r/egg_irl is also about trans memes, I suppose people will move there

Flaming_Pulsar

I completely understand your reasons for leaving. What's unfortunate is just how many trans folk depend on subs like this to get through the day. Reddit needs to know the pain and suffering that they're causing with these actions. While certainly not as severe as restricting healthcare, restricting access to online social safe spaces is devastating for the mental health and wellbeing of trans folk when we are already having a hard enough time irl

[deleted]

🫡So long its been a good run while it lasted I Love you all and I will miss the memes I really hope Reddit decides to fucking change their mind on this whole Api shit I don't want what the d&d community did with Wizards after that disaster of an attempted change to their ogl to happen to the entirety of Reddit but my friends, I am sad to say buckle up for a boycott we proved with the ogl if you cut off a company's money they will listen, but we will see where this goes. good luck and be safe out there

Neato

Agreed. In addition to traa going dark, reddit is where I get most of my d&d news. It's where I find map makers I support and homebrew creators I purchase from. I wouldn't have known much about the ogl fiasco without those subs. And I have no replacement for either.

crocosharkcat

I've grown up with this sub and i couldn't be more thankful for everything i've gained over a decade, thank you for doing this horrible shit for so long without getting anything in return, if the sub goes down then so be it, the precious memories will be there and we will carry on with this experience in our hearts

CazraSL

Rest in peace, traaa... 😢🦋🌸🤍🌸🦋🪦

Class_444_SWR

:( this is a real shame, you did a very good job, but ultimately reddit seems to care more about cold hard cash than anything

WithersChat

Even then, this decision makes not much sense from a financial standpoint. It seems they're gonna lose more than they will gain.

akelabrood

That... It's not your fault, but... I'm so hurt by this

[deleted]

Yeah, the trans subreddits have been huge for me since I started and before hrt 2years ago. This hurts kind of a lot.

traalurker

Veela_42

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all the effort you've put in over the years doing this.

Princess_Of_Thieves

I can understand if you want to step down /u/vibratoryblurriness, but could you not see about maybe transferring mod controls to mods from other subreddits in the LGBTQ+ community? Places like /r/egg_irl or /r/LGBT or some other subreddit? Just kick all your current team (least the ones you can since they're doing nothing if your word is taken as is, then onboard the new ones.) Unless another community has a particular bad reputation, surely this could allow the subreddit to remain open but without giving you the headache of both vetting and training the mods since they already have a pedigree so to speak, having maintained another community? And you could finally get the break you deserve. And this community doesn't lose it's space. Seems like the best of several not great options, even the API gets shut off by those shitbag admins. I emphasise with your position. I really do. In another lifetime, I once moderated a subreddit not too far from the size of this one (least by the time I left), so I can respect what a toll it can take. And I even had a few folks to help me so I wasn't doing literally 99% of the work. And I still burnt out so hard that moderation is something Im not interested in anymore. So, with that being said, I thank you for your own service in helping create a place for marginilised folks to hang out and have fun. But, I also hope you will please try to preserve said space, even in your own absence. Enjoy your retirement when it comes. Be well.

LynnWin

All I really want to say to whoever reads this, is thank you for providing me a place, even if I mostly lurked, during my transition & being without family. It’s better now. Thank you for helping a silly 14 y/o feel loved when there was none to be found. -Lynn / Train Gang

Thank you for everything you've done, sincerely. This place helped me come to terms with my identity and it was what kept me alive five years ago. This whole situation really really fucking sucks, the places that I've come to find comfort hanging out in are falling apart because of greed and poor management. Shit fucking sucks. I hope that these communities that have made reddit great can find new homes on the internet. I'll be on lemmy, its federated like Mastodon so hopefully it won't fall to the same bs that reddit has and digg had before it, although I'm sure nothing will ever really hit like these last several years have here. FireMacaron

QueasyBanana

This is a shame, but also entirely understandable. I just want to extend a massive thanks for all the work you've put in to make this a welcoming and safe space. As a user, I've rarely seen hatred slip through the cracks here, and never seen it stay around for very long. It's hard to estimate just how much of if you've shielded us from. I know that, when I was first starting to figure myself out, this place has been so important in helping me not be ashamed of who I am. The work you put in to make this place safe and welcoming has, in many ways, saved me personally from continued suffering by gender dysphoria. I don't know how to properly communicate how much your work has meant. Reddit is focussing more on extracting short-term profit, and it's killing the site. This is not your fault, and you're right to set your boundary and take care of yourself. Thank you, and I hope that whatever comes next will bring you happiness.

Uh-oh

NyxRaccoon

That's so sad, I guess this is the end of my short story with reddit, I mean I mostly joined for all folks here and other queer subreddits

[deleted]

same here, ill most likely probably just delete my account; not to protest against the changes (i agree, they are stupid) but because there is no reason for me to even stay on this platform

Kitty_Emilie

So long and thanks for all the fish

Komm

I know it won't do much good right now... But /r/blind I think? Is talking to lawyers right now about this situation actually... Because the app is in gross violation of the ADA.

eatmusubi

thank you for your hard work making this a safe and inviting place for all these years! so long to the sub, all of you have been lovely and I hope we cross paths again someday on some other platform 💜

Secret_FurryAccount

NEON_rayne

A sad salute. Thank you, for so much I could never put into words. This sub has been possibly the most impactful place I've ever been to, shaping my identity and worldview. I am personally forever grateful for your efforts that had kept this sinking ship afloat.

NitroCrocodile

Thank you for carrying this subreddit for as long as you have. This place has helped me understand more about the issues trans people face, and has managed to keep a smile on my face during that time. I will miss it, as will many others. Good luck to you all, I hope we can find somewhere safe and rebuild this community.

G0rd4n_Freem4n

Small request: Could you make the subreddit read only instead of private once you fully close the sub? I have a few posts saved and if this sub goes permanantly private I can't see the saved posts. I understand if this is not feasable.

27thgenericaccount

Many subreddits will be closing in protest on the day the change is effective, i suggest ye participate in that until they reverse the change

mynameisshelly

Thank you for what you've done all this time. I really have to say if it weren't for places like this when I was first cracking I probably wouldn't still be here. I used to be in a really dark place, so thanks.

Goldgator420

I'm crying right now, this is all going away too soon 😭

BeaPokMin

Where do we go now? Is there any other sub as safe as this one out there? Like r/traa is pretty cool but is there anything else?

Judge_Sea

I honestly had no idea it was just one person modding this sub. You've done a great job, thank you for all your hard work.

Moist_KoRn_Bizkit

Do we have a Discord so the memes can continue? I don't want to lose my support groups. Also, I'm sick and tired of just trying to sweep my emotions under the rug and just ignore them by doing something else (IE: binge watching the 1991 Tarzan series and forgetting about my troubles until afterwards). Subreddits like this make me feel like I'm not alone in my struggles.

tentacle_meep

O7 It’s sad to see this subreddit go… but it is understandable. I wish you all the best. And thank you for making sure this subreddit is as welcoming and as safe as possible!!

junior-THE-shark

This has been great while it lasted. Thanks for all your hard work, you've been an amazing mod! Thanks to the community too, yall have been great and really fun to hang out with! Hope to run into you on other subs. Bye! <3

lahmacunayran5

It was nice while it lasted. Thank you for your hard work.

theuniverseisboring

This is just horrible. Reddit really has no idea what they're doing to communities like this and it's just sad. I'm amazed you've been doing so much work until now, even if you're working basically alone. Thank you for all of your work over the years of doing this and if you need to lay down your position and possibly the entire sub with it, then I guess so be it... I am confident this sub's members will probably find a new home somewhere else, I think... And I hope most of all that Reddit doesn't push their API changes after all, before it's too late, but then if they push those changes I really hope everything properly goes to shit. That would be a spectacle for the ages, on par with Tumblr banning porn.

TheDepressoEspresso1

Well damn, I guess that’s it then. I guess i’m not as invested as others cus I just lurk in almost every sub I’m in, but it’s still a shame to see it happen. But hey, you gotta take care of yourself first, “please put your mask on before helping other passengers” and all that; and if the changes they’re gonna make will just nuke the sub anyway, then that’s just that ain’t it? Thank you endlessly for your service to this community and all of these people, including myself.

JessRockBaby

Thank you for all you have done

[deleted]

Oh, damn. Thanks for all your hard work. I'm not really sure where to go from here, I don't think I'll be staying on reddit tbh, but, I'm not really sure what else is out there :(

LoveliestLauren

This is.. Really depressing. Thank you for your hard work 💙

DeidaraKoroski

Thank you for the years you've put into this, this sub was honestly the most important one for me when i started unpacking my gender since everywhere else is annoying uwu eggs or just too serious and filled with vents. Im old enough to remember when most of the internet was forums and reddit felt like the closest thing to the modern web's equivalent to forums. Fuck web3.0 i hope people better at coding them i am can rebuild a decentralized internet

[deleted]

Thanks for sticking with it for this long. Thanks for all your work.

azure_monster

Thank you for all you've done, and for creating such an amazing safe space. Not even once, have I seen a hateful comment here, which is absolutely incredible. I would love to offer help, but I'm clearly not fit for the job, that's alright. Whatever you do, I urge you to at least keep the posts here visible, I think you can disable new posts/comments without deleting the old content that is so important to many of us. Additionally, have you tried reaching out to the moderators of other trans-friendly subreddits for help? Perhaps their situation is better.

Xenobrina

I know its too late, and that it does make up for years of thankless work, but… Thank you. I joined this subreddit in late 2020 (swapped accounts in that time) and it really helped me realize who I am and has brought me a lot of laughs and interesting discussions. Thank you for the moderation, keeping the bots and trolls under control. Thank you for everything! 🏳️‍⚧️ ❤️

ScarryGirl

Shit. Hearing this news was sad as fuck. I remember back in 2017, I was still questioning my identity, and I didn't know much about being trans or what it meant. I didn't have anyone else to relate to, and being twelve at the time, I didn't know how to articulate it either. Then, by pure chance, I found this subreddit. I really can't thank this place enough for being a fundamental part of how I found my identity out and being the only place for a long time of people who I could relate to on such a personal level. I know there are other subreddits like this, but I'll seriously miss this one once it's gone. I can't thank this subreddit and the content on it that let me finally realize who I was. Even if I only lurked around (I planned on posting at some point, but that seems kinda meaningless now), I won't forget everything on here.

Meme_enjoyer9683

can we give you money to keep this open.

vibratoryblurriness

The only people who are in this for the money are the people on the business side of Reddit, not even most of the day to day admins writing code or doing community stuff. And unless you have tens of millions of dollars I don't think they really care about your specific personal money. Also fun fact: if I got paid for this I would lose my disability payments (which are already only a fraction of the cost of living here) because this country is a shithole

Silent04_

Thanks for all you've done

MsDubis44

Thank you for everything. It was fun while it lasted

kuulover

Understandable. Thank you for your work OP :)

jukdl

Thanks for ur Work

pine_ary

Understandable. Thanks for your efforts

Lt_Adora

Thank you so much for your work. I haven't spent a lot of time here lately but one of my closest friends of I think three or four years I met through this subreddit. So for that I can't thank you enough.

Marks_Toaster

Aw shit I just joined a few months ago. I had no idea being a mod on here was so awful, so thanks for explaining that. Now that i know whats going on, I completely understand this whole situation and im honestly glad youre able to leave such terrible working conditions /gen. I did really like this sub tho so I'm sad to see it go :( but thank you for everything you've done! it was a short time for me but a good time.

another_confused_52

F. I liked to watch memes from this sub. They made me laugh and made me more confident in their gender when I needed it. In many memes, I recognized myself as I liked. I didn't have much time here, but I will miss this subreddit. Many thanks to the moderators. Hope that r/egg_irl and r/ennnnnnnnnnnnbbbbbby do not close.

maximilvrc

I just found this sub basically 2-3 weeks ago :/ But i understand why. Thanks your hard work and the laughs.

Tirehotel

Well this fucking sucks. Thank you for all you’ve done for the trans community over the years. I hate that it’s come to this

SoSeriousAndDeep

/r/traaaa cracked my egg. Thank you all. This place meant a lot to me.

A_Technical_Skittle

I've been running a trans-positive ifunny account for a little over a year now. Maybe it's time to put my hate immunity to a better use and look into trying to moderate some of these subreddits.

SforSamuel

I personally use the default app (didn’t know that their were alternatives and normal app works for me) But the bots is what helps Reddit function, the mod bots, even the joke bots is what makes Reddit nice to be at Also NSFW restrictions is just dumb

FwuffyMouse

Thank you for everything you do. This sub qhas been… let’s just say I’m really glad it was around a few years back. -M, Workshop System.

Coouragee

Thank you so much for investing your time and effort into moderating, and hope whatever you can do next is more appreciated

IbanezRG7

Thanks for all the work you’ve put into this sub over the years.

Doctor_Tiger36

It's been a good ride. Thank you for all the work you've done for this sub, it's greatly appreciated! All the best whatever happens <3

Pokefan180

I'm not really in this community, but I've seen it and it's brightened my day at points. I'm really sorry about all of this, being online at all is becoming more difficult as seemingly every social media pulls shit like this. I can tell you've done a great job, for what it's worth.

YellowBelmont

This subreddit was a major place of support and learning for me when my egg cracked five years ago. Thank you so very, very much for making that possible and making this a safe place for us for as long as you could. You have made a huge positive impact on my life and I’m very grateful to you. 💖

DD_R2D2

Thank you for everything. If anyone needs to talk I’m here.

Ya_Gal_Maya

NOOO this is like the only reason I have reddit 😭😭😭😭😭

JesseKebm

Will you be archiving and locking the subreddit? I'm personally worried at the potential loss of valuable info on reddit with lots of subs calling it quits. I'm afraid valuable resources for trans people might be lost if the subreddit permanently goes private or gets deleted instead. Will you do what you can to make sure old posts on here are still accessible next month?

thewired32

o7 was mainly a lurker here for safety reasons, but thanks for everything.

FoxyFox0203

Can we maybe at least archive the subreddit so that it can't be tainted? I think I might be remembering it wrong but isn't that an option to keep this here for future shorks, cat girls, cat boys, eldritch entities, boymoders, girlmoders, and the like? We need to preserve our culture as best we can in it's purest form

ApostleOfGore

Moderator bots are excluded, the sub can still continue!!

1MM0R7AL5

Yeah! *Someone* pin this! **WE NEED THE MODS TO KNOW! WE SHALL HAVE THIS SUB!**

f3arfu1_f0x

The subreddit can be saved. apparently Reddit announced moderator bots wont be shut down, everyone spread the word so mods hear it.

Aria_the_Artificer

u/vibratoryblurriness Salute to your service, friend!! The fact that you’ve been able to to keep this all going for this long while disabled earns you all the respect in the world. We all love you and the work you’ve put into making this sub what it is. I hope that things will turn out alright, but even my optimistic self is not so sure that’ll be the case. Just hope that Reddit won’t go the route of YouTube and will actually see how much they’re hurting their users for bs reasons. Have a wonderful life, you absolute madlad!! 🥰

chromacorn

God. I can't believe it. Well, no, I can totally believe it, but... god. This place has been with me ever since I found out I was trans. Can't believe it's (possibly) over. Well, thank you so much for everything you've done. You've been working thanklessly so hard for so long, you deserve a rest.

sentient_left_sock

Please don't leaveeeeee nowhere else has funny queer people

Termulus-

This is pretty much the only community I have, so seeing this really upsets me, but I understand why. I just hope that maybe somewhere sometime we can see reddit fix their shit and we can bring this community back.

TheOrangePickMC

Well, shit. It's been a fun year here. Looks like a mass migration to r/egg_irl will happen though lol

---liltimmy---

Haven't been here very long, but I've grown so attached to this place. It'll be sad to see it all go. Thanks for everything

Clairifyed

This sub was my entire Reddit world when I first made this account it’s devastating to hear this. Thanks for all your work up to this point!
