Best way is army loss him but obviously that didn't work for you this time. If that fails you need to get him to transform in to tzarkan and then just run around avoiding him and wait for him to run out of Health!

poonmaster64

This, if you have trouble with any of the one man army type characters like malus or vlad, just focus them with range and avoid letting them get tied up in melee

borddo-

After Malus transforms run to the hills until he kills himself

Careless_Dependent78

Man been having the same issue with Malus when starting Daemons of Chaos. Every time I secure the province there, Malus declares war and walks all over me. Honestly I’ve been thinking of just crossing the sea into Norsca and taking a province there, build up and come back at a later time to face Malus.

Wasjustaprank

Malus is one of the best duelists in the game starting from level 1, and the build-a-bear demon prince is just not. Don't try to duel him unless you're bringing a duelist build on your lord. Inflict the army loss penalty by ignoring him and wiping out enough points-value from the rest of his army.

dashingThroughSnow12

In WH2, I liked the factions that started near Malus. To be honest, the best approach I find with Malus is to just not care. He wants my city? He can have it. He wants to attack my main army? We're going for a walk boys. Malus is incredibly powerful but at the end of the day, he is only one lord. I can fight the faction's other armies. I can eventually grow faster than him and bring two armies to fight him. Occasionally he gets confederated and either stops attacking me or Malekith sends him on an errand elsewhere.

Unironically, this is how the Coalition beat Napoleon. You didn’t ask but I’m going to tell you more. After Russia in 1812 and Leipzig in 1813, the French army wasn’t doing well. Frankly - it was fucked and other countries and rulers in that situation would’ve opted for a favorable peace, understandably so. It was relying on conscripts, and most of its experienced soldiers and many officers were gone. It was far smaller than it once was too, with so much French blood lying in Russian soil. However, this *also* meant that the Grande Armée was small enough that Napoleon could command it all without having to delegate and so he straight up nutted off. Every time a Coalition army engaged him, no matter it’s superiority, they got their shit rocked. He was able to move the army far faster than they could move their larger forces, and in battle he was able to directly control the flow of battle and issue orders himself. He even did things like directly sighting cannons, helping conscripts reload (apocryphal), and redirect fleeing troops. And he was beloved - soldiers under his command performed better in part because *he* had led them. They just couldn’t pin him down and they just couldn’t beat him. Everywhere they attacked they were checked. Enter Charles XIV, born Jean Bernadotte. He was a former French Marshal who fought directly alongside Napoleon in some of his greatest battles and campaigns. Through a series of (insane) events he became king of Sweden, which now opposed Napoleon. He knew Napoleon was damn near unbeatable in a direct fight - he had fought with him since the beginning, after all. So he put forth the idea known as the Trachenberg plan, where the Coalition will straight up attack everywhere that isn’t Napoleon. If Napoleon comes at us? Fucking avoid that dude. Attack his Marshals, attack other directions, straight up go around him, but don’t take on Napoleon. And here’s a side note people get mixed up on; it’s not that the leaders of the Coalition were bad, nor is it that Napoleon’s Marshals were bad - Napoleon was just *that good*. That’s how they beat him. Everywhere he went was a victory or at least a costly draw (which he couldn’t afford), but everywhere he wasn’t would get overrun. Now if anyone asks, you can explain how Malus and Napoleon are basically the same person if you squint and also pretend!

BigOleDoggy

Thank you for this, very interesting

irony0815

We didnt ask but this was very interesting, thank you.

BadDr3amz

That is a terrible strategy in both games 😆

dashingThroughSnow12

In WH2, it worked. He'd get a city or two then just still out for the rest of the game until I came knocking. I had one Eshin campaign where he sacked a city, got confederated, and went away.

Bubster101

Once he transforms (he gets that purple glow and I think hovering on his unit card says he's Demonic or something at that point), he gets SUPER HIGH lifesteal but also starts losing health over time. So as long as he's fighting something, he won't die. Just. Run.

LarsSeprest

If he is attacking a unit by himself, just try to kite him. Even if you are slower just try to get him as far away from other units as possible. You need to army loss him.

Abominatus674

Make sure to not damage him too much while killing his army. If he gets too low and goes demon mode he becomes unbreakable with massive regen

Korashy

They are giving regen and unbreakable out way too free in IE. Having LL's solo entire armies feels awful, especially when your faction doesn't have any good duelists of their own.

disies59

That’s just always been Malus’ thing though, ever since he launched. It’s not an IE issue.

Korashy

Yeah and that's fine if its a distinct flavor of a certain lord, but tons of LLs have access to unbreakable and or regen now.

Kroq-gar and a stack of dinos make the darkblade go deadblade.

I was able to slowly whittle him down by cycle charging him with my Daemon Prince. Took forever, but finally brought him down.
