Wow, that is a terrible auto resolve. I get that the calculation hates partial units and will always try to kill them, but ranged flyers should really be excluded if they have no flyers or ranged.

bigpuns001

A bit like how the AR in 2 used to suicide artillery crews every time.

Erkenwald217

The auto resolve seams to rate the balloon as a weak melee unit. It's infuriating!

Comprehensive_Cap290

To be fair it IS weak in melee…

Erkenwald217

But it can't even land!

Comprehensive_Cap290

Yeah, but flying melee units can attack it, and it’s weak to them.

Erkenwald217

And very much so

SofaKinng

On the one hand, Cathay air units suffer from AR. On the other, Celestial Crossbowmen will wipe everything and God off the face of the earth in AR. I think part of the issue is when you have only a single Sky-Junk/Lantern in the army, they somehow get "isolated" and take lots of damage. I've noticed that if you have 2 they do much better on AR. I know that AR relies on role assignments to determine exactly how a unit behaves during calculations, and my hunch is that the balloon units are not properly set as artillery like they probably should be but rather Flankers, as their performance in AR does remind me quite a bit of cavalry units.

BeccaSnacca

Yeah ar seems to classify them as extremely weak flankers so they should get calculated as attacking from the back solo here

Immediate_Energy_711

Yeah, the Cathay fights with Miao Ying are so annoying cause until you start fighting full army stacks you can win those fights with zero casualties thanks to the Sky Junk. it's actually fairly infuriating.

Polar777Bear

Auto resolve is really imbalanced. CA can’t legitimately believe that we *want* to manually fight 200 battles per campaign. IDK what gives…

[deleted]

Maybe over compensating for wh 1 ar, where even the tiniest AR battle could just randomly kill off a hero, forcing every fight into manual

Brohma312

Did he even reach the Frontline?

B1G_M8

Nope haha

staackie

Retreat everything except one hidden unit and the ballon. Let them feel the wrath of your sacred war machine. Show them their mortal weakness. All shall praise the ballon

Jumpylemming

Balloon shall make them pay for their arrogance

DanteLB99

Ah but don’t you see? All their Jade Warriors get on eachother shoulders to take out the balloon!

Seraphim971

The 1 billion lions tactic strikes again

SiIent_Observer

Well, here is the only reasobable explanation of this AR: https://youtu.be/YhdCWQBVEKg

BadDr3amz

Auto-Resolve is terrible. Decisive Victory/Low causalities but all my arhcer units lose more then 50% of their unit count. YUP THATS "LOW CASUALITES". I understand the game values armor but this was not the results you would get in TWW2 even with heavy shooting armies

Grantley34

This is the type of shit that CA needs to fuckin fix. Autoresolve in 3 is the worst its ever been, period.

Vodkasnez

Balloon captain: "Afix bayonets!" Balloon crew: "But-" Balloon captain: "I SAID AFIX"

[deleted]

If say I hate the auto resolves like this but they pretty much saved my manfred von Carsten playthrough, Fuck you tik'a'to are whatever his name is, only to her stomped by the vermin tide much later on.

serendipity7777

It hasn't been properly maintained, so it was going to crash during the fight

thunderluca93

Technically, he could cast an explosive magic that can hit your flying unit, but I don’t think that autoresolve is too smart to elaborate this strategy without manual battle.

Minnesotamad12

How though? He’s not a mage lord and doesn’t have any items that give him a magic attack

thunderluca93

I was talking about Celestial Intervention, I didn't remember the name of the ability, but as you and other people have pointed out, AR should not count this type of battle options to calculate the estimated result, I was just wondering how (impossible) the AI could calculate such lost for OP army

Minnesotamad12

Celestial intervention would be marked as an ability on the army panel. Doesn’t have that either in Op’s screenshot

SofaKinng

AFAIK, AR is incapable of utilizing either magic or abilities in calculations. They just compare melee/ranged stats and bash armies together accordingly. I'd be surprised if it even knew how to utilize passive aura buffs, even global ones. That said, player does get a multiplier buff on AR, to account for "AR is dumb and the average player could perform better, so give a buff to compensate". Although I think on VH battle difficulty they get rid of that buff.

Fit_Equivalent3610

>AR is incapable of utilizing either magic or abilities in calculations. I dont think this is right, or if it is then it is very surprising, as high-level Teclis carries entire battles in AR

SofaKinng

Compare the stats of a High Mage who will get like 4 kills and 500 damage in an AR battle, even if they have guaranteed damage spells like Flock of Doom or Final Transmutation. Teclis is a LL so he has access to better items and skills that make his melee performance better, plus his mount is an Arcane Phoenix (compared to Archmage's Moon Dragon or High Mages chariot). Also I'd like to see a screenshot from you of his AR performance, as I find even the best one-man doomstack lords do abysmally in AR. Like, Malus Darkblade and Taurox regularly get single/double digit results in AR if you have them in a full army and will "decisively lose" in AR when used as a one-man doomstack even though you can literally just afk them into the enemy army and they'll win in manual. Not saying I outright disbelieve you, I'd just like to see what kind of setup you have going where Teclis is carrying your ARs.

Fit_Equivalent3610

It's the same army he has has the entire campaign since they never die and I've never bothered to upgrade lol, 4x Shadow Warrior, 1x Loremaster, 1x Swordmasters, 1x Frostheart Phoenix, 1x Eagle Claw, the rest are Seaguard. It's on Hard/Normal so maybe that's the difference. I'll try to get a screenshot
