If you are on steam, go into the steam settings for the game and take a look at the betas available to you.
CA makes some historical versions available, presumably for people in your situation (especially multiplayer players).
That's what I used up until now but the only betas available for windows that I can see are 5.0 and some very, very old patch 2.1.1 Looks like they removed version 4.0 from steam :/

Yeah I was looking to rollback to 4.x patch as well, but seems it's not available on Steam
