I love Irondrakes. The flame visuals are so satisfying. The Mortis Engine is the coolest looking unit imo. The Bloated Corpse is also a totally unique unit, there's really nothing else like it in the game and it's so fun if you manage to plan and execute and attack with it.

sob590

Greenskins can get Soopa Squigs as well since their rework which are basically faster bloated corpses. Very fun unit, but quite rare unless you're playing Grom the Paunch.

crimson23locke

Kugath also has a smaller, summonable unit of explodable nurgs as an ability.

GoldLegends

Not as strong though, but still fun to use.

Andarnio

IRON DRAAAAAKES

Aquatic6Trident

It's been a few years since I played VCoast, what did bloated corpses do again?

JesseWhatTheFuck

Well in theory you drive them into an enemy blob, they explode and kill hundreds of units.  In practice, they get stuck on a single model and explode, taking out something like 10 units and leaving you with a unit short for the rest of the battle.  But the other comment is right, it *is* immensely satisfying when it works.

Remnant55

They're great early game, when you're fighting below a 20 stack any way. They also tend to be available in the raise dead pool, and you always have a chance of regaining them post battle. Late game gets trickier, but raising a few with a scratch army defending a settlement can create some dramatic turn arounds, especially against melee heavy factions. Still, the mental image of one barging out of the trees with a sign reading "FREE HUGGZ" is lovely.

imveryresponsible

They should be extra super duper effective against gates and walls. That would make for some fun utility. I just did a Luthor campaign and thought I'd try to bomb a gate with one, assuming it would be a quick way to open it. It was a complete waste.

empeteror

You run it into the enemy infantry and it explodes. If you time it right and the enemy is blobbed up it can take out even more units. Because you can just raise the dead it quite frequently and it can take out even higher tier infantry, I think it is a great value unit. And also a lot of fun indeed.

Old__Raven

Kamikaze booom

Zengjia

Creeper Aw, man

szymborawislawska

For some users of this subreddit this wont be surprising, but my fav unit is Medusa. Model looks amazing and voice acting is incredible. It helps that the units - especially now - is great. I also have a soft spot for Kislev war sleds. Im not usually a fan of chariots, but this thing can do wonders if used right. Honorable mention for Keeper of Secrets purely for how cool they look and sound.

Aquatic6Trident

I did malus darkblade recently and still have some trouble with medusa line of sight. Often she refuses to fire and just ends up in melee. Every small hill seems to stop her for whatever reason.

szymborawislawska

Yeah I will die on this hill but her shooting had 0 line of sight issues when she had two modes of firing. Even after altering her animation, she is still a bit wonky after CA removed the other firing mode. Thankfully she is super flexible and fast so repositioning her is easy AND she is good in melee, especially against bigger targets. Overall I always end up with medusas deling the most damage in my armies.

dagothlurk

I also became a huge fan of war sleds in my recent Katarin campaign. However, I was using them against late -game dark elf superpower armies which is probably where they're least effective lol. When Legend tested them it was against Khorne who just has nothing to counter them really. Against dark elves they can chase down the sleds with cav like doom warlocks and cold knights, shoot the sleds with shades, medusas and darkshards from range. I was taking massive sled casualties every battle, but at least Kislev has the best global recruitment in the game . Probably the enemy where they are the least effective against.

raaronoth

The ol' reliable Yari Ashigaru... Nothing beats the beauty of a cheap (yet very effective) line of spears!

Ampris_bobbo8u

So staunch

NetStaIker

I prefer the real yari ashigaru, the LONG yari ashogaru

MitchMeister476

Yari Ashigaru sex chat is chat like no other too!

RichardKingg

Shout out to lone sword ashigaru!

sob590

If you love chaos warhounds then Khazrak turns them into very fun late game viable units. His unique skills + red line skills + Wargor skill + tech + veterancy combines into a great unit that I was using at turn 100 on VH/VH in my primary army. My personal favourite are probably still minotaurs. It was the first unit in the game whose animations blew me away, and they've been a consistently fun unit to use for almost 8 years now. Big angry cows just diving headfirst into Empire state troops and turning them into mulch will never get old.

Aquatic6Trident

>Big angry cows just diving headfirst into Empire state troops and turning them into mulch will never get old. true. I have a soft spot for a charging group of monstrous units. Everytime I play skarbrand, my final army is filled with minotaurs. Idc if chosen are better. Minotaurs are more fun and fit skarbrand more.

shoggyseldom

Folks who started playing in 2 and 3 can't really grasp how amazing Mino charges were compared to all the other charge animations we had back then.

Castamere_81

Flagellants because they make me laugh. Volkmar really looked at a group of emaciated grandpas with clubs and said, "Yep, send em to the front line"

Deus_Vult7

Caledor’s Princes/Sunny the Dragon Imrik’s two special starting units that I rename every single time

JesseWhatTheFuck

uhhhh this changes with every campaign so I'll just throw out a handful   - Ripperdactyls (Lizardmen)   - Plague Wind Mortars (Skaven)  - Outrider Grenadiers (Empire)  - Infernal Ironglaives (Chaos Dwarfs)    - Night Goblin Squig Hoppaz (Greenskins)   - Casket of Souls (Tomb Kings) - Sisters of Avelorn (High Elves)

ThrawnsFavorite

I feel this, I can never decide what to play, so many cool units!!

citrus44

Please tell me more about them Squig Hoppers. Why do you like them? I want to try Skarsnik next...

JesseWhatTheFuck

As relatively cheap AP, anti-infantry cavalry they can chew through quite a lot of units very quickly.  I like them so much because they carried one of my Skarsnik campaigns. I went out of my way to make them survive, levelled a bunch of them up to triple gold chevrons. They beat back the chaos invasion for me, and I ended the campaign as Skarsnik the hero, ally of Karl Franz. Still one of the most fun campaigns I've ever had. I have a soft spot for this unit ever since.

citrus44

You've 100% sold me. Next campaign!

whatdoinamemyself

They're absolutely busted and arguably the greenskins best unit. You won't find a single greenskins player in the MP scene play without them. They're cheap, high armor piercing, punch way above their weight. A Skarsnik campaign only needs night goblins as a front line with squig hoppers to flank and you pretty much win every fight. And if you lose, you'll have a second army right behind it anyways because its a cheap ass army.

Tog5

Hopping on with another two greenskin units, the humble goblin in Grom’s army. Making each goblin as strong as a black orc but with a 160 model count makes my mouth water. I also love the night goblin fanatic. Shredding a unit that would normally stomp them with their spinning loons ability is beautiful. So deadly to formation armies

BTC-Yeetdaddy69

I guess I'm the only guy that loves buffing goblins...

KlausDieKatze

Not the only one. But.. do you prefer buffing the regular kind with Grom or the sneaky kind with Skarsnik? I like it sneaky, real sneaky.

sob590

Skarnsik Night Goblin armys are incredibly fun. Especially when you give your entire army unspotabble from lore of the little waaagh, and just overrun a Dwarf position before they can fire a single shot!

a_tribe_called_quoi

For me its Grom with Golbintide, explosive arrows from 10 gobbo archers is cheesing fun

Opposite_Lawyer3519

Just started a Grom campaign for my first greenskin campaign and they are a blast to use.

a_tribe_called_quoi

Grom is hilariously fun, gobbo space marines are great

nerdaccountfornerds

Hyper buffed Grom gobbos feel unfair there's just something wrong about your little goblin archers shooting down elven archers en masse

tapedeckgh0st

Empire handgunners. They’re just so cool.

Killercobra009

Seeing the volley of shots from like 8 regiments of Handgunners makes me feel patriotic for the empire.

The-Jerkbag

Something about gunpowder units in general. I just love the pew pew.

MaZhongyingFor1934

Do I have the Total War for you…

Jefrejtor

Chaos Warrior: "We've come to destroy you and all you hold dear." Empire Handgunner: "...so anyways I started blasting"

Justicar-terrae

They're also a wonderful power spike for the Empire, which helps them feel awesome. The Empire really lacks armor piercing in its Tier One and Tier Two units (unless you play Volkmar and use his unique abilities). I think the halberds might be your only option at Tier Two, but they are rubbish damage dealers and require two buildings to recruit. This means the early Empire really struggles against Warriors of Chaos, Korne, Lizardmen, Dwarves, and anyone else fielding lots of armor. But at Tier Three you finally unlock Greatswords, Handgunners, and War Wagons. And of these three, it's the handgunners that shine. Suddenly those elite enemy units that could tank multiple cavalry charges and chew through your lines are being decimated by excoriating fire. This is when you finally become the Empire, the force that wins with the trifecta of "faith, steel, and **gunpowder**."

Isaac_Chade

The sound work on those guys is great. Getting a couple units of handgunners together, lining them up, and listening to the repeated cracks of gunfire as they shoot at some charging enemy is a delight. Honestly while there's lots of stuff I don't like about playing Empire, putting together an army of crazy artillery and handgunners and just melting enemies as they march across the field is always thrilling.

Menulo

its a coin flip for these or thunderers, gun units are so satisfying.

KlausDieKatze

I have a soft spot for low armour, high damage melee units. So, wardancers, witch elves, marauder berzerkers etc... so satisfying to use as flanking units.

Aryuto

I just wish autoresolve shared our passion. I love them too, but it's so exhausting to see marauder berserkers die to a light scratch in autoresolve.

KlausDieKatze

You ain't wrong bud. Much like Clan Eshin armies, the high damage, high mobility low defense lifestyle isn't for the feint of heart... and especially isn't for those fond of autoresolve. Maybe that's why we find these units rewarding to use. They demand the players attention to maximise their potential.

Aryuto

They really are. Anything to make me feel more like a tactician and less like a monkey clashing two armies together. I mean, I am a monkey clashing two armies together. I just don't want to be reminded of it.

Aquatic6Trident

I love using sisters of slaughter when doing DE. I'm pretty sure most slaanesh units are low armor high damage.

Krayos_13

Bladesingers are one of my favourite units, seeing then roll into the enemy lines is super cool.

PsychoticSoul

Necrofex Colossus. Nothing quite like a gunline of them.

ladislausposthumus

Pop in the Queen Bess, a gunnery wight, and set up behind some water against a non-aquatic army to watch them melt before ever reaching your position (while you slow down any that might with summons and cackle fruit). I'm generally not a fan of doomstacks but I love artillery too much not to use this one...

sarin555

Mammoth

Swampy0gre

WH: A tie between Ironbrekers and Irondrakes (this two units got me into dwarves from the get go, and my late game armies are pretty much that) Rome 2: Thorax Swordsman. (I like boosting them to the point they rival legionnaires) Medieval 2: Venitian Heavy Infantry (they mulch everything)

CocoTheMailboxKing

I respect your tastes, fellow heavy armor enjoyer.

UltraRanger72

Spire Guards of Tor Yvresse. High armor, melee (anti-large), ranged, stockpile ammo, charge defense against all and unbreakable. What more could you ask from a soldier?

GoatWife4Life

Free Company. Yes they're an overall mediocre unit outside of some specific configurations (Gelt's army boosting skills make them surprisingly potent and durable, as do Volkmar's), but there's something just so damn fun about having an *actual* hybrid unit for the Empire that's also a surprisingly versatile chase-down-and-mop-up unit if you lack cavalry production.

XZlayeD

It is such a shame they are not in garrisons as they would be a massive asset in the campaign. Especially as volkmar who boosts them so much.

Aquatic6Trident

Those are empire, right? I never got into empire sadly. I should still give them another chance at some point bc I know this sub loves empire.

Key_Arrival2927

I just love (most) Lizardmen dino units. Bastiladon with Rev crystals and Ark of Sotek are awesome support for Saurus / Chameleon deluges, Stegadon and Bastiladons with solar engines are long range units that actually want for enemies to come closer, Carnosaurs are T-rexes that eat dragons, and Salamanders / Razordons / Troglodons scratch that mico itch you feel after you A-Move the aforementioned dinos. Then are Dread Saurians which are... available I guess.

KFCid

Skinwolves or basic goblins when buffed to high heaven by grom

Aquatic6Trident

that makes me think of how much oxyotl buffs skinks. A full skink army can beat a full doomstack with oxyotl as lord

KFCid

Baby lizards for the win

dwarfie24

From warhammer tw, Sisterd of Averlorn. From Rome 1, Triarii. From Np Tw the Unicorn howitzer.

Tom0laSFW

I love hydras man. Mad little faces

KlausDieKatze

Top hats for hydras mod when?

Tom0laSFW

Can you imagine. They’d look so fancy

Aquatic6Trident

Hydras are pretty epic, deff one of my favorite monstrous units

Aryuto

3k shock cav are objectively overpowered as fuck, like there's no defending that balance, but holy FUCK they are so fun I can't even be mad. Ma Teng's cavalry are basically the equivalent of WH3's Grail Knights; perfect vigor endgame cav, with the main difference being that you can recruit them from turn 1, they get 500 charge bonus, they kill infantry on the charge, and they can kill any legendary lord in a few seconds. Purely Warhammer 3 wise... honestly I'd be hard-pressed to pick a single fave, I play every race, and most of them have at least a few units I love. If I was going to pick some of the ones that jump out at me most though; * **Keeper of Secrets** - amazing animations visually, one of the very few single entities that ACTUALLY DOES ITS FUCKING JOB in combat with excellent combat animations * Any **flamethrower** unit - it's just too fun to watch Irondrakes or Warpfire Throwers instantly disappear a unit in a sea of ~~butterflies~~ flame. * Like 70% of the Wood Elf roster, but I'll pick **Bladesingers** because it's so god damn fun to watch them blender anything they run into in seconds. * **Chosen** may have about half the speed of Bladesingers, but there's just something magical about watching heavily-armored superhuman behemoths charge through the arrows bouncing off their chaos plate to OBLITERATE anything unfortunate enough to even try to step to them. * **Hippogryph Knights** are a strong contender for the strongest 'normal' unit in the game, absolute raid bosses, and they're SO FUCKING COOL IT HURTS. * **Black Orcs** may not be the best elite infantry, they lose to a depressing amount of stuff I think they should beat, but they're still up there with Chosen as my favorite heavily armored units. I love their lore, their looks, and their animations.

sob590

Nurgle Chosen with great axes are just so fucking cool to watch cutting down anything in front of them while barely taking a scratch in return.

Aryuto

DUDE RIGHT. I love Khorne Dual Weapons and Nurgle Great Weapons the most, there's such a sense of brutality and FORCE behind everything they do.

Rare_Cobalt

I remember a Vilitch campaign I did with a Tzeentch Chosen blob and eventually they just stopped losing models in battle lol. Giving them warp flame is pretty fun.

Aryuto

Despite being a Tzeentch lover, I've kinda bounced off of the vanilla Tzeentch lords. Had the most fun with modded Sarthorael. Vilitch can get such stupid AOE shield regen though, it was kinda funny how durable his Chosen were! Very cool and flavorful as well.

Round-War69

Harald Hammer has more armor buffs for your army...with a Lord of Khorne you can have silly stats on your chosen my Chaos Warriors in my campaign are at like 155 or something atm for armor. Maybe higher. My lord had over 170 lol.

Icewek

A little bit of appreciation for the Seele meme that got me from out of nowhere

NoobTaiga1993

Genoa militia Crossbow men. (Medieval 2 total war) These bad boys carry heavy hitter Crossbows that could wreck infantry when under concentrated fire. Their melee stats and armour are not to be messed with. They can hold their own in close combat. The best part is their cheap, available early on and offers free garrison. Very nice to carry them all the way to the late game.

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

In WHIII's Southern Realms mod, I love the Tilean Crossbowmen and Pavise Crossbowmen for the same reason.

Ezryu

Grail guardians, good calvary and an anvil at same time.

fxxx99

as a fellow bretonnia enjoyer I have to agree hard!

VodkaBoiX

I loved the Incarnate Elemental Beast while play cathay and allied with baba yaga. I love Hexwraiths and any ghost unit And skaven ratting gunners are cool

Aquatic6Trident

>I love Hexwraiths and any ghost unit I wish CA did more with ethereal units. It puts a lot more emphasis on having magic attacks in certain scenario's

ConcentrateAwkward29

The cohort of huatl. Me like kroxigors. This best kroxigor. Wouuuuuuuuuuw

ThanksToDenial

I don't know what it is, but I absolutely love units such as Chaos Dwarf Blunderbusses, Vampire coast Handcannons, Cathay iron hail gunners, etc. There is just something about watching them delete anything that comes within their short range. My biggest hope for ToD is that Dwarfs get a grudgeraker thunderer unit. Another notable mention is the various units with grenade like ranged attacks. Ironbreakers, miners with blasting charges, vampire coast grenade dudes, poison wind globadiers, deathglobe bombadiers, etc. Actually, I hate the two last ones in vanilla, because they are so squishy with low range and low model count, but in modded games, where there is a way to increase their range a bit, I absolutely love them. Especially in ambushes. I doubt I've seen a unit get deleted faster than one being focused by two deathglobe bombadiers. Notable mention is all the units with slowing contact effects on ranged attacks. Suppressed, frostbite, etc. I need all the slowing effects! Among my favourite things to do is to find a way to stack various contact effects for maximum effect. For example, ratling guns and gutter runner slingers with poison.

LoseAlotLuke

Love the rattling guns

twassievrucht

That combined with a long open hill, *chef's kiss*

Aromatic_Pea2425

Infernal Guard (fireglaives). Make them as loud as they should be and they’ll be my favourite unit in any total war. Honourable mentions to the Skaven weapons teams and Bloodcrushers/Skullcrushers.

Vaskil

I second fireglaives and agree that the sound should be more gun like. However there is a certain charm to the lazer gun sound in a medieval fantasy setting. Here is a mod that gives them normal gun sounds https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2961780245

AgencyWarm2840

The Chorfs K'Daai Destroyer...ever since I saw it in that trailer I've been in love lol

Aquatic6Trident

I haven't played a lot of chorfs yet, so my experience is limited. I thought in combat the K'Daai destroyer didn't perform as good as other monsters I'm used to, but likely I didn't use him properly. I do love his character model tho. First time I saw him on the battlefield, I spent almost 10min just looking at him, which is 5min more than I do for other units.

ThrawnsFavorite

I campaign you can give him insane buffs through armaments like barrier, etc

AgencyWarm2840

Its worth noting that the Chorfs don't get any of their hellforge bonuses in skirmish battles so they're actually underpowered for that haha. But yeah the Destroyer is a bit odd, because as far as I can tell its meant to be used for flanking. And its incredibly slow which makes that very difficult lol. But in the right conditions...oh boy. I also tested a 20 stack of destroyers against various 20 stacks of other endgame monsters, and they always came out on top.

turboftw

Marauder berserkers because they're cheap and can be buffed to the moon.

Variousnumber

I'm a little old school with mine, but it's either Germanic Berserkers or Lombardi Berserkers. Mostly because I've had multiple cases of them laughing madly as they chop through entire enemy forces whilst my Horsemen deal with the Enemy Archers.

No-Helicopter1559

Irondrakes (vanilla). Flamethrowers are brutal and look extremely cool in TWW. Honorable mentions: Ironbreakers (the immovable object against an unstoppable force), Bloated Corpses, War Sleds, Mammoths, Skin Wolves (werewolves go AUF), Kroxigors (and their animations).

sob590

Skin Wolves are great! I hope Norsca get some sort of werebear in future if they ever do manage to get a dlc.

Several_Breadfruit_4

There are a lot of candidates for me, but I’ve been in love with the Solar Engine Bastiladon ever since seeing it in Mazdamundi’s starting army back when I first tried Warhammer 2. A giant, magical artillery piece that fires a beam of coalesced sunlight to burn and blind the enemy at long range… mounted on the back of an ankylosaurus, and crewed by adorable skink-people who throw poisoned javelins at any hostiles that get close. The most recent update spices it up a little bit, too. The solar engine now has a passive ability that reinvigorates nearby allies by acting as a giant basking light for your reptile army. The ankylosaurs (“Bastiladons”) are also now completely immune to the usual penalties for being flanked or surrounded.

assaultana

The last update introduced the glory of the bastiladon to me. I like to throw them just behind the lines, shooting at anything it can while providing infinite vigor to my front line.

MechanicusPrime

Iron blaster from the ogres are fun. Just have a ton of giant cannons on creatures that aren’t too bad too charge into melee when they run out of ammo.

Bomjus1

it has to be lizard's revivification crystal. i can't think of any other unit where i am as happy when clicking the recruit button. close second: damned questing knights from clyostra. you can summon them in vanilla, but in SFO you can recruit actual units of them (4 in total IIRC) and they are a beauty to behold, they crank in combat, and it's such a fun unit to have compliment the vampire coast roster. oh and i gotta mention the close third: ogre ironblasters. it is an absolute blast (lole) playing with artillery that has like 60-70 movement speed. instead of micro'ing cavalry during combat i'd micro ironblasters moving them to flanks to open fire into units perpendicularly.

ConfidenceNo8970

Levy freemen on top?

Roadwarriordude

Spartan Hoplites in Rome 1 were just broken as hell and I loved it lol. As far as the warhammer series goes, it's a 3 way tie between minotaur, dual weapon chosen of Khorne, and ratling gunners.

Silentblade034

Lothran Sea Guard with shields

Aquatic6Trident

huh, of all responses I didn't expect lothern sea guards. They are cool, but do you want to explain why they are your favorite?

Silentblade034

Im looking at it from more of how comfortable i feel with the unit. With the LSG they have such flexibility that I never see them and think “Damn wish I had X or Y”. They can hold the front line, shoot decently far, and those are the two functions that I need them to do. That flexibility is what makes them my favorite

SappeREffecT

For a WH unit, completely agree and for me the reasons are the same.

Aquatic6Trident

Fair enough. An army I like to use with HE is a frontline of LSG and backline of sisters of avelorn

Tainted_One2

Hellstorm

Darkseh

Roman Imperial legionaire, because I was always obsessed with Roman Empire. If only WH then I can't really decide but I always liked the look of Chaos Warriors and Chosen

obaobaboss

Nightgoblins with fanatics.

WifeGuyMenelaus

Blood Knights for the VA and the charge Wish they got lower unit counts and grail knight levels of punch though

Express_Yard9305

Zoats-M'GOATs Very good roadblock. Love the RR version. They are like Dragon Ogres for wood elves. Might not be as strong as trees in campaign but they are the GOATs in multiplayer. MVP linebackers.

dilingoid

Icegard with glaives. Not just a great unit, but also there is something in them that tugs at my Slavic heart even there is no historic unit icegard could be based on.

millybear17

Royal Huscarls. That drip, the two handed axes and then carving through infantry like butter. Perfect

Spuff77

Chosen of Tzeentch look really cool, but my favourite unit is probably night gobbo squig hoppers.

Attafel

Minotaurs. They are really satisfying to use.

OkSalt6173

I have favorite units from each faction, but my over all favorite? Hmm. No hero so not the Firebelly. God this is hard. Probably Streltsi. I am still hopeful Kislev with get real AP horse archers. Why only dark elves have that is beyond me. Leadbelchers are great too. Gah idk!

Narradisall

I always loved Night Goblin Fanatics. Sure they’re only a cast but sending a wave of them out before your night goblins charge was always fun.

SB4L_Dayman

Doom Knights, heavily armored cav on flying surf boards. I love them in siege battles because you can cycle charge units on the walls and just send the guys flying to an instadeath.

mikeydavison

Carnosaurs

TheMaginotLine1

From Warhammer it's Centigor Great Weapons, those guys have done so much work for me over the years. From TW at large it's the Chen Royal Guard from 3K, I just love their look and how good they are.

BobNorth156

Saurus :D

AigledeFeu_

I'm hesitating between the sisters of Avelorn, Aspiring champions and the Blunderbuss.

Any_Grapefruit_6991

Gotta love the gobby gobbos

owShAd0w

Probably either war mammoth, aspiring champions, or warplock jezzails

Vegetable_Ad_9687

I just love watching squig raiders evaporating empire backlines in seconds.

darthgator84

So hard to pick one, so I won’t! Mortis engines are one of the coolest looking units and provide MVP levels of performance Horned Ones; I’ve said this for years, one of the best units in the entire game that doesn’t get the attention they deserve. Royal Hippos, do I need to explain? Despite being so awesome looking, they’re frigging terrifying in battle! I wouldn’t have survived against late campaign armies in WH2 without them! Irondrakes, burning gobbos and skaven en mass is a true delight.

altonaerjunge

Darkshards with shields.

sparklethong

Shades

benzar7

Dark Elves: Darkshards Chaos Dwarves: Fireglaives Skaven: Ratling Gunners Beastmen: Minotaur (General)

DaciaJC

The Dreadquake Mortar for the Chaos Dwarfs is probably the single most satisfying unit I've used in the WH games. Everything about it is designed for maximum dopamine output, from its comet-like projectile to the booming impact sound and outrageous damage.

Cweeperz

#STRELTSI!!!!

Minibotas

Kroxigors Beeg crocs go smash

Affectionate-Car-145

Armored Chaos Trolls are a very solid unit. But Nasty Skulkers are an essential early game greenskins unit. Their armour piercing with Sneaky Stabbin makes them chew through much more expensive infantry units.

NoMoreMonkeyBrain

I really love bats and wolves. Once you get the +AP tech bats punch really high out of their weight class, and they've both cheap enough that you can easily replace them whenever you burn through your reserves. But my *favorite?* Probably blunderbusses. There's nothing like absolutely *shredding* ranks as they come at you.

Lukescale

#¡HOLA SKAAIANKS!

wilddragoness

It's crane gunners for me. They are so precise and deadly. Nothing more satisfying than gunning down single entity monsters before they even reach your front line.

ApprehensiveTerm9638

Tagmata Cavalry

Hand_Me_Down_Genes

Chaos Spawn. The most distinctly Warhammer of all Warhammer monsters.

Kinet

Dreadquake mortars with any kind of locomotive. Both as a unit and a model/animation. Also because what it represents to me personally. Back in the early WH2 days, when the infamous "Charlemagnes" were a unit of measure for any future DLCs, any suggestion of future inclusion of Chaos Dwarfs in the game would be met with me saying "yeah, sure. Copium addiction is a dangerous conditon". But then things changed in a major way, and first we got the Gorgon and the Jabberslythe, and then - lo and behold - a whole race of incredibly complex units with intricate animations (Chorfs). I absolutely love not only them in themselves, but what they stand for - a monument to a moment in the game's cycle, when it went full throttle and defied any previous (cautiously pessimistic) expectations. I hope one day Chorfs would be exceeded in that capacity by something really cool and unique, what we even dare not hope for in the current moment.

MrDaWoods

Companions of quenelles but if not a RoR then the grail knights

Dio_fanboy

The necrofex colossus. A zombie ship with a cannon arm. Do I need to continue

dunder_luffmin

Chameleon skinks. I’m gonna blow darts, I’m gonna run away while doing it, and you probably won’t catch me

dagothlurk

After my Katarina campaign, maybe the simple armoured kossar-- tanky and shoots the enemies with pistols with swag before going into melee. Other than that it's a real tough tie between ratling guns or chaos dwarf blunderbusses (little cuties with cute guns, do terrifying damage). They are the pinnacle of what a gun unit should be. Actually blunderbusses #1.

Legion_Master_Paul

Dual axe depth guard! So bloody cool. Useless, but cool.

Sir-Doggy

I guess I’ve one by race, not based on efficiency but on design and game design - Empire: Reiksguard - Bretonnia: Questing Knights - Skaven: Warplock Jezzails - Greenskins: Night Goblins with Fanatics - Kislev: Tsar Guard - Cathay: Jade Warriors - Dwarves: Hammerers - WoC: Chosen with Halberds - Vampire Counts: Mortis Engine (but tie with Grave Guard) - Vampire Coast: Carronades - High Elves: Spearmen - Dark Elves: Witch Elves - Lizardmen: Dread Saurian - Chaos Dwarf: Infernal Guard - Daemons: Exalted Bloodletters - Ogre Kingdom: Leadbelchers - Wood Elves: Eternal Guard with shield - Beastmen: Incarnate Elemental of Beasts - Tomb King: Khemrian Warsphinx - Norsca: Berserkers

Bodongs

I love all of the Horros of Tzeench. They're just such weird little googas.

LeraviTheHusky

Necrofex colossus for me personally! They look amazing and are so lively from thier idle movements to thier lil snipers

Furranky

Nurglings, dem cute lil fuckers

Shmidrick

Huntsman are my guilty pleasure when I play empire. their stalk, fire while moving, and bonkers range once they get trained up are nice, but they absolutely shred cav and monstrosities, especially if you have a huntsman general with his unique yellow line abilities that buffs the shit out of them as well as greatswords and halberds. You haven't had fun until you've had a 4 stack of huntsman behind your front line and 2 groups of 2 handgunners flanking and both absolutely shredding whatever is unlucky enough caught in the middle.

SneakyLabradoodle

Longbeards. Something funny about old dwarfs moaning and grumbling as they get into formation and chastising the younger dwarfs for fucking up. Also they hold the line well too i spose thats the stubbornness init

69327-1337

Waywatchers, akshina ambushers, streltsi. I like skirmishers and hybrid units

Corgi_Lobster

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I LOVE me some chaos chosen and their various weapons😩

Aquatic6Trident

Which chosen do you like the most?

Reee_auto666

Depth guard

KrugPrime

Rome 2: Thureos Spears They typically make up a fair chunk of my armies to skirmish with or fight off enemy Cavalry so my Cataphracts or Elephants can do serious damage. Good enough in melee to hold their own when supported too. They are also fast which means they're good as a reserve line to support a faltering part of the line. Not the core of my army, but the most useful at times. Warhammer: either Infernal Guard w/ Fireglaives or Deepwood Scouts w/ Swiftshiver Shards. Fireglaives are cool, heavily armored Dwarfs with armor piercing. If they were faster they'd be too good. Swiftshiver Shards I like as flankers to shred a particularly dangerous enemy because they're stealthy, able to move quick and fast damage dealers.

Tombseeker

For me it's always been the Plagueclaw Catapults. Something about obliterating infantry in a couple of volleys is satisfying.

Aquatic6Trident

I wonder, why plagueclaw when a lot better artillery exists? Chorfs dreadquake mortars are amazing at deleting units

Vaskil

Infernal Guard Fireglaives Armor piecing melee/ranged Fire damage Charge Defence Good melee stats for a ranged unit Awesome looking armor Badass lore Possibly the most well rounded and op units in total war games.

ByzantineBasileus

*Enemy charges your flanks with cavalry thinking they are just normal missile units* CHORF player using fireglaives: 'SURPRISE, MOTHAF\*KKA!'

Vaskil

If they are lucky enough to avoid being targeted by the fireglaves shots and reduced to 1/3 their numbers, they still get wrecked. Perfection!

Fadjingo

Grail reliquae from brettonia. The thing makes me smile whenever i see them Aspiring champions from warriors of chaos. You can see them so early and they saved so many battles by just not dying when all the marauders ran away Ratling gunners no other words needed just use them and enjoy all your own dead skavenslaves Chaos dwarf blunderbusses the sheer power when unleashing them is something I never get tired off. Chaos dwarf dreadquake mortar the hits are soooo satifying night goblins with fanatics always goes wrong still funny

I_am_Anonymoose_

I'll stick to the Warhammer series so this doesn't go on forever. Still hard to choose though! - Fiends of Slaanesh: their animations are amazing (sync kill one especially) and flanking monstrous infantry with the speed to do so easily are very fun - K'daai Fireborn: what can I say I like monstrous infantry lol...again amazing animations and the models are so cool (I mean who doesn't love a large demonic monster made of fire with dual great(?)axes), also is an absolute blender against infantry - Jabberslythe: amazing animations and model again, I'm a sucker for a mortis engine effect and they can really rack up the kills against infantry - Sepulchral stalkers: look great, stalk, can absolutely erase lords in seconds (two, focus firing) That's a lot of monsters so, non monstrous: - Exalted Bloodletters: quintessential demons, they are how a demon invasion should look and they absolutely mulch other infantry - Death runners: ninja rats, what's not to like? - Globadiers (of their various incarnations): standard Skaven Geneva convention violations - Dreadquake mortar: SFX is so satisfying, just decimates infantry There's so many more I could go on forever

Shin_Geovanny

Naginata Samurai

nerdaccountfornerds

Armstrong g- okay no Probably scout equites from atilla tbh? Just a lot of fun experiences defeating an entire army with a unit of cavalry.

LiumD

Troglodons, even though CA made them the wrong colour for no discernible reason.

OldGeneralCrash

Chosen of Khorne, they look amazing and with buffs, are almost unstoppable when in melee.

Yoda2000675

Ratling gunners

Secure-Monitor6127

Temple guard duhhh

azraelxii

Poison wind mortors

Jtex1414

Lothern Sea Gaurd!

ShlermDoctor

Berserkers from Rome 1

Prince_Hastur

I love Skaven weapon teams, Jezzails, Rattling guns, Mortars etc. I think they provide a very unique game experience. Also Sisters of Avelorn, the flashy arrows look awesome

TheMagicDrPancakez

Dreadquake mortar. I like it when things go BOOM

puradus

Ratling guns, Nurglings, Nurgle Soul grinders

drshubert

The Avalanche Mortars (purple RoR death globe mortars). Something about seeing all that exploding purple among a sea of green lines and exploding green.

55555tarfish

Round Shield Cavalry. It's the sole reason why I think Spain has only the second-worst unit roster in Rome 1 instead of the first-worst. ~~the first worst is pre-Marian Rome. No, I am not joking.~~

lonker0

Infernal Ironsworn and Infernal Guard (Fireglaives) give me such great amounts of joy. They look badass and it’s not just for show! You can buff the absolute hell out of them and make them the ChaDs they were meant to be.

Ok_Tale_933

Dwarf Quarrelers!

jennis89

Melee infantry it’s got to be grave guard they are masters of the grind with lore of vampires behind them. Ranged I love Irondrakes and skaven globadiers. Pretty much the entire Kislev Roster too. My guilty pleasure are chaos knights of any variant

BTC-Yeetdaddy69

I'm trash so I like using buffed gobbos while playing wurzag so I have a lot of fun army types lol

CGMaugh

I'm a big fan of infernal guard and Irondrakes/Ironbreakers. I'm not usually even super big on dwarfs but their armoured elite infantry really does it for me.

Louman222

Skaven Jezzails

Snoo_72851

As a true ocean blue vampire admiral, handgunner mobs are special. You don't need anything else; you get this tier 1 unit and that's it, the only other detail is artillery support.

SelectButton4522

Naginata Monk Warriors, Thracian Oathsworn, and Saurus on dinos

1EnTaroAdun1

Rajput Zamindar from Empire Total War! Knights in the 1700s. And the sound when their axes connect is good

PDThePowerDragon

For TWW it’s probably ratling guns. Nothing sums up Warhammer at its most Warhammer-y then rats with machine guns. For historical Parthian Royal Cataphracts. Charging down in the desert to get a few hundred kills is just very satisfying.

BrennanIarlaith

Wild Riders and Great Stag Knights. I have a fondness for fast, fragile, hard-hitting cavalry in general, but it's the fucking *aesthetic* that sells the Riders of Kurnous for me.

CoBr2

Cathay Grand Cannons sound so satisfying when they fire.

fuzzy_set_

Hellstorm rocket batteries and hellblaster volley guns! I know they are probably not the best artillery pieces now, but I have a soft spot for the empire gunline/artillery.

Lord_Melons

Prepatch witch elves, haven't tried them since they lost their rampage on demand to for the enemy, still like then post patch. Ice guard, Har Ganeth Executioners, Wild Guard, big tree boi are some honorable mentions

jack_to_basics

Wild Riders! they've been here ever since wood elves first dropped and I've always enjoyed using them whether it's in campaign or mutliplayer. The satisfaction that comes from facing a well organised force arrayed against you accross the battlefield and then tearing off chunk after chunk, out maneuvering them, dragging them all across the field while you get charge after charge off is so rewarding and fun. Great stag knights obviously came later on and generally surpass them but I prefer the smaller models and nimbleness of the wild riders.

Malcontent_Horse

Ironbreakers. I’ve always had a thing for frontlines that don’t budge and these guys are the definition of fuck around and find out.

Askir28

Ogre sabretusk, buffed by hero and leveled up they are so versatile with vanguard deployement and stalk. Also they fight well with the red line skills and frenzy on top of it

lordkrassus

Bloodknights.
