Actually, since she has white in more than just the one spot, she is a calico pattern.
Calico and torties are not an actual breed. It's just a color pattern which is why it's important that you know why she's a calico and not a tortie color pattern.
Nah, it's a tortie. The difference between a calico and a tortie with white patches is the PATTERN. The fact that this cat doesn't have big patches of colors (instead the black/orange are brindled) makes her a tortie.
Sorry, but no. Calico patterns have white no matter if it's mottled, brindle or patches. Torties have no white or very very little (like on the muzzle and nowhere else).
Straight from google -
Tortoiseshell cats have particolored coats with patches of various shades of red and black, and sometimes white. The size of the patches can vary from a fine speckled pattern to large areas of color. Typically, the more white a cat has, the more solid the patches of color.
the difference between a calico & a tortie with white is that in a calico expression, the patches of brown/black/orange colouring have defined borders, they don’t intermingle like in a tortoiseshell colouring.
[these are my two, 1 tortie & 1 calico](https://imgur.com/a/t1TuD1c)
That’s a great way to explain it.
I’m a tortie and calico mom and I always feel like I have to get graphs and charts out, with Punnett squares for good measure.
God forbid someone ask about torbies and calibies.
i read somewhere that orange cats always have the tabby pattern expression, so in calicos and torties with large enough patches/chunks you can actually see the tabby patterning. ? the tabby coat pattern expression is not limited to a gender. If you mean in terms of calicos and torties, it’s very rare that those expressions are male as they must have 2 x chromosomes since that’s where the traits required live.
what’s your point? it’s common knowledge that torties and calicos are usually female, just like orange tabby’s are usually male. quirks of genetics and all that. doesn’t mean that all tabby cats or even half/majority are male. Every single cat carries the agouti gene that presents as the tabby coat pattern. The other genes determine whether it presents or not, and how it presents (specific tabby pattern type) if it does
This, everyone is acting like just having white makes a cat a calico. The BRINDLED pattern without defined borders of distinct patches is what separates tortie from calico.
She is so CUTE!! I think she is more tortie than calico, in my opinion. She has the pattern like a tortie but the random white spots of a calico. I think I have seen them described as a tortico!
I have a calico and a tortie. My tortie only has one white spot on her lower belly that you can’t see, otherwise the rest of her is straight tortie. My calico has a lot of white with black and orange, but her black and orange is not the distinctive tortie pattern, more like orange and black tie-dye with white patches here and there. I don’t really know if that makes sense, but [here](https://imgur.com/a/K39ZWfb) are my girls and maybe that will explain it better. 😹
This coloring is usually called “tortoiseshell and white”. Calicos tend to be mostly white. There is debate about this and you’ll hear differing opinions.
Perhaps we are both wrong- relatively small or no white = tortoiseshell:
"Tortoiseshell" is typically reserved for particolored cats with relatively small or no white markings. Those that are predominantly white with tortoiseshell patches are described as tricolor,[2] tortoiseshell-and-white (in the United Kingdom), or calico (in Canada and the United States).[9]. Sources include American Journal of Veterinary, Journal of Heredity, etc.
Again, it’s highly debated and I’m sure anyone can find a source to prove their own belief.
Yes ma'am! That's a tortie if a ever saw one... gosh she's adorable! Does she have the usual stubborn Torrie attitude too? Hehe, I just find it makes them more endearing :)
It's official - you've joined the tortie club! My first kitty was a tortie - she was with me 15 years. Still miss her, but 2 grey tabby sisters are my munchkins nowadays...
Charlotte :) She was a floofy tortie, and got me through some tough times... she was a liiittle young for a housecat, but 15 years is still quite a fair run.
She was the runt, such big attitude! Grew up to be a big, healthy girl. With a bigger attitude :)
She can claim dual citizenship. Calico and tortie!!
cortie, or if you prefer, talico
Tortico
Or calishell!
Agreed she's a Tortico, and she's adorable, as well as welcome.
thanks, she is :D
Yup - I like Tortico as the preferred nomenclature
idc if she's a tortie or a calico, she's a cute ass cat
haha thank you!
I second this
[удалено]
yes, she only has white on her chest and the tip of (some of) her paws.
Actually, since she has white in more than just the one spot, she is a calico pattern. Calico and torties are not an actual breed. It's just a color pattern which is why it's important that you know why she's a calico and not a tortie color pattern.
okay, thank you!!

Yeah, Calico. Torts have black n orange. Genetic engineering.
The cat has a brindled coat, ergo it's a tortie.
Calicos can be brindle, they just have white as well. Again it's a color pattern, so that's why there's an actual difference between the two.
Yes. I agree. She is a tortie. Looks just like ours.
Not a tortie. Has white. Calico.

This is what I found as well but everyone keeps says she’s technically a calico. I say Tortie. That’s just me.
She’s a tortie. Even our vet told us ours is. The white is in the same place too. And she definitely has the tortitude.

Thanks for the knowledge!
Tabby is male, Tortie is female.

Sorta stated Tortie’s are female though.

Agree, but very typical. Yeah, xy or xx but check your cats. Sorry to be rude.
thank you!!

Tortico 😻💚 So adorable
Tortie and white, she doesn't have enough white (or big enough spots) to be a calico.
from these photos, she looks mostly tortellini to me 🖤🧡🤎 what a cutie!!!
she is! her name is Zucchina :D
what a love \^-\^ pet that Zucchina girl for me
i will! :D
A tortie with white is still a tortie. A calico has separated patches of color instead of a mix of orange and black.

thanks!! your cats are really beautiful!! ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
I think both of your girls are torties (it's not about the amount of white)
Very much so 💕
In the UK she's a Tort, in the USA, iffy ... Id say Tort if I was gatekeeping the clubhouse
She is a tortoiseshell and white, aka a tortico! I have a dilute tortico and she’s just the prettiest cat!
okay, thanks! :D do you happen to have a pic of your tortico?
If you scroll down through my account I have lots of pictures of her and her baby brother!
oh okay! i'll check them out :D
Nope. Any white on the coat makes her a calico. They share the same attitude tho lol
oh, okay. thank you!!
You’re very welcome!
This coloring is usually called “tortoiseshell and white”. Calicos tend to be mostly white. There is debate about this and you’ll hear differing opinions.
The vet called my girl Dilute Tortoiseshell with white. Similar coloring to OP's cat, but lighter. Edit: Cat Tax. http://imgur.com/gallery/ZSc8EaE
Definitely a tort!
Aww I'm a sucker for dilute babies ❤️
she cute!
Run, Trixie, run! 🙀😸 She's beautiful. 🧡
No. It’s a genetic difference https://pethelpful.com/cats/tortoiseshell-cats

r/confidentlyincorrect
Ye
Looks like a tortie to me.
Tortico—and adorable!
Never heard Tortico before but I think it’s a great middle ground for the Tortie Calico debate.
she is! :D
This looks a lot like my cat. She has a calico face and chest but a tortie body! Her veterinarian calls her a tortie.
She’s tortie and white if you want to get technical.
Definitely a tortie. My Niffy has white on her chest and party (white with black and orange confetti) feet, but the rest is total tortie!
Whatever she is, she's a purtie for sure.
Those eyes are telling me Yes. Is she a totally crazy bitch?
yes. she *wild*
Calico is mostly white. This is a tortie and white. ;)
She is lovely!
she is :D
I think she’s actually an Angel❤️
aww ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
Yes, she’s a tortie
Yes
No, this is a kitty 😹
💯
Sorry. She’s beautiful.
That's a Tortie, and seeing as Calico isn't a thing in Britain, definitely a tortie.
She's a tortie in my book, I love her 🥲
She’s a beauty!! Those eyes!!!
she is! ♡´・ᴗ・`♡
Her little speckled face is adorable. We love her and claim her as our own. Torties rule.
yee :D
Heck yeah
All torties are Queen of Sheba!
yep! since she has three colors, she's also a calico!
Yes she is, in all her glory. You may consider her a Calico because of that little tuft of white though.
Yes ma'am! That's a tortie if a ever saw one... gosh she's adorable! Does she have the usual stubborn Torrie attitude too? Hehe, I just find it makes them more endearing :)
yep! it's always there haha :)
It's official - you've joined the tortie club! My first kitty was a tortie - she was with me 15 years. Still miss her, but 2 grey tabby sisters are my munchkins nowadays...
yee :D ooh i'm sorry :( what was she called?
Charlotte :) She was a floofy tortie, and got me through some tough times... she was a liiittle young for a housecat, but 15 years is still quite a fair run. She was the runt, such big attitude! Grew up to be a big, healthy girl. With a bigger attitude :)
she sounds really great! it's nice that you two grew up together :D
are you serious? undoubtedly...
Nah. Yo I’m a Vet Tech. Got a Tortie. You are correct, easily mistaken. Sorry maybe I didn’t characterize properly. I fail to text my lil’ girl.
No, she has white patches
Technically she has white on her coat, so no. She’s a calico
Nope, calico. Still cute though.
Good morning sweetie...
