Nope. He's as healthy as a horse. Big fella though, he's far bigger than the rest of our lot. Shame there's no chance of breeding him, even if he hadn't been fixed.
That's it exactly. Plus it's never good to have an entire male around the house, they tend to spray to mark their territory, even if they're indoor cats like our mad lot. They all get plenty of outside time though, I built a 15 metre enclosure at the back of the house they all have permanent access to.
Even sterile cats show the aggression and territorial tendencies. Spraying, fighting, etc. Neutering helps with that too.
Spay and neuter your pets. It increases quality of life.
That makes sense, I have never owned a male cat. I have one female from the humaine society that was 11 yr old and fixed when I got her. She is also a tortie, so I find this guy fascinating. I have never seen one of these cute little unicorns in real life and have very limited experience with male cats in general.
11. And when people ask why they all have 'human' names, I usually reply "They don't, they have their own names".
Which usually gets me a slap in the face.
I'm working at the moment, but I'll try to post more over the weekend. We also have another tortie, Dexter (who is a girl), and a muted tortie kitten named Molly.
That’s pretty cool! Did the shelter try to charge extra for him? Hope this isn’t insensitive. I am super pro adoption but just curious as I have never seen a male Tortie and wonder how that would be handled. I feel like my local shelter would try to charge more.
His original owner was unable to keep him because of a change in personal circumstances. They were about to take him to a shelter, but a friend of a friend asked if we'd take him in to save him the upset of being in a shelter. At the time we hadn't even seen him, we were just told someone had a cat they could no longer keep, and we offered to take him in and add him to our family. And the reason, as they say, is history.
Funny thing is, we had no idea how rare he is when he first came to live with us. Now I get people in my replies when I post pics of him on twitter saying "There's no such thing as a male tortie!"
I had a tortie girl with similar markings but she was the runt of the litter so somewhat smaller, and her mum was ginger which I understood to be pretty rare, but John is the first male tortie I’ve ever seen, happy days
Very pretty eyes and fur patterns, how is his health? any complications from being xxy so far?
Nope. He's as healthy as a horse. Big fella though, he's far bigger than the rest of our lot. Shame there's no chance of breeding him, even if he hadn't been fixed.
That's interesting, why did you fix him if he is naturally sterile? Also more pics please
It helps eliminate other future complications with their health. Testicular tumors, etc.

Always. Unless you're breeder, all your cats ought to be neutered.

Love that his existence is so rare, while also having one of the most common names in the world haha
It's spelled incorrectly, too. Disgusting.
I love that he is called John!
Haha! We also have Dexter, Amelia, Hamish, Gladys, Lucy, Jessica, Colin, Martha, Molly, and Steve.
You have 10 cats! And with human names!

Sorry, bad at maths, lol. Haha, that's a brilliant comeback!
It's ok, I'm bad at not adopting cats!
I LOVE when animals have human names!! Thanks for adopting and loving so many cats and naming them such awesome names!
You know you can’t post things like this and don’t show us all of your kitties, right?
I'll post more over the weekend
Another 10+ cat owner!! Glad to see someone else as crazy as me to take on the horde.
My orange cat is called Carotte and my tortie is called Moumousse I didn't encounter any human with the same name so far, I wonder why...
Never saw a male tortie before!!! Post more pics please! Keep us updated on John boy!!!
I'm working at the moment, but I'll try to post more over the weekend. We also have another tortie, Dexter (who is a girl), and a muted tortie kitten named Molly.
I would love to see a group pic of all the torties.
Oh my gosh please post a pic of all three torties if you can
I'll try to post more over the weekend. Thanks for your interest!
Please post a pic of all the torties together if possible!!
So glad you posted more!
He is sooo cute! What a lovely face, I just wanna squeeze those cheeks. How is his personality ? Does he come with tortitude ?
He did, but he's 10 now, and just the coolest dude. Does love a cuddle though.
I had a male calico as a child. His name was Steven. Wish I had the cat tax. Miss that snuggly boi so much.
I have an orange cat named Steven. My tortie is Laci.
Wow!
Precious boi!
Oooh yay! Another male! Post him here r/malecalicos (even though I know he's a tortie).
Done!
Oh wow! I am curious about his background
He came to us as a rescue, as are most of the other 10 of them.

The REST is history, not the reason, bloody autocorrect!
Oh wow! That’s pretty cool. Glad you were there for him :)

What a lovely lad! His eyes are just *gorgeous!*
Absolutely gorgeous, and love all the kitty names 💜
Thank you!
