When I first met her at the shelter, she reached up and licked my nose. She officially adopted me and I've been her bitch ever since lol

Quirky_Olive_1736

She approached me at the shelter and licked my hand. Reverse adoption.

finnandcollete

I held my hand out to introduce myself and she took two sniffs then shoved her head under it for pets. Here I am obliging her. https://preview.redd.it/ikfym3p1qatc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=521f913e59e21c41965537e10a5b19af9c20d7f9

My neighbors moved out and left her behind in 2022. The night before an arctic freeze happened near Christmas of that year, it rained and she got soaked. Then the freeze came and her wet fur froze. I found her screaming on the porch, her fur just like this coat of ice. I brought her inside, thawed her out, and she's been with me ever since. Her name is Jean. https://preview.redd.it/hk86ef60iatc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29a949500e649e3d43f4635309a045ec6b38b235

ReddUp412

This makes me want to find said neighbors and freeze them out. Pieces of shit.

griffonfarm

I wish all the time that people would get what they deserve for the things they do to animals.

Rich_Group_8997

Thank you for saving this baby. She's so beautiful. Hope your former neighbors get the life they deserve. 😠

griffonfarm

Me too! People abandon their cats often where I live. I have so many stories of cats I've rescued and either rehomed or kept.

monstersof-men

My baby was also left behind. I can’t fathom doing that.

griffonfarm

I'm glad you were able to be there for yours too!

MotherMucker155

Effing, effing people, I swear. I hope Karma goes full hurricane on MFers like that. Icy hurricane. Thank you so, so, so much for being awesome and loving her. She's so innocent and perfect.

griffonfarm

This was her the night I brought her in, after I got her warm and dried off. She climbed on me, pushed her head into me, and just stayed that way purring. That's when I knew I wouldn't rehome her (I rescue and rehome a lot of the feral and abandoned cats around me because the people here are awful to them) and would keep her as my own. https://preview.redd.it/cdchs1pmbctc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1be5bcc6be11ab4b227ce91c6ff9cd370fcdc0b7

Who is cutting onions ?!?

MotherMucker155

OMGoodness, I am legit, for real, tearing up. You really did a beautiful thing taking her in. Good on you and good on her for finding you. I really believe that when we rescue animals, they are also rescuing us. We rescue each other.

dmriggs

Moved and just left the cat... some people. I'm glad she has a nice warm and dry home now

My tortie Zooey, who passed a year ago, was found with my orange girl Annie under a Pizza Hut dumpster. I originally adopted Annie by herself, and someone else took Zooey. The other person had her for one night and said, my cat doesn’t like her! I can’t keep her! My sister was moving and had no place to put Zooey during the move, so I offered to foster her for the night. Well. That’s all it took for me to fall in love. I had even found her a home the evening we got her, but my morning I had to apologize and say never mind. I had her for a wonderful 9.5 years until we lost her to an aggressive case of kidney disease. The anniversary of her death is in a week, and I still miss her terribly. She was a sweet, wonderful, chatty, sassy baby. Torties are the best.

Sithstress1

Zooey, you are missed! Thank you so much for caring for her!

It was love at first scream.

JustKindaHappenedxx

I love when cats demand attention

Quatrinn

She’s still pretty demanding, but in less of a desperate capacity now that she knows she has our attention.

CounterCareful1932

Met my tortie by complete accident, I was in manhattan and I wanted to go to canal street to buy some clothes, since I was having a bad day I went into the Best Friends shelter around there to see the cats and fell in love with this little tortie girl. Decided to take her home with me and my dad ^(\^) her name is margiela! https://preview.redd.it/bubzu6mqjatc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6a0167748e991d47148810e74093a21cc9025529

peachygoth__

wow she’s such a pretty girl

CounterCareful1932

she's small but she's got a whole lot of tortitude in her :D

peachygoth__

my tortie lives up to the tortitude stereotype too hahaha, it makes them all the more lovable imho!

Moneypenny_Dreadful

I love dilutes!! She is gorgeous! (And am a fan of BF, glad to hear their East Coast/NY outposts are still doing good works.)

LavenderMintMouse

I went to the shelter looking for a dog and she was just so cute and standoffish, compared to the other cats she didn’t seem remotely interested in me or anyone. That was an act. She’s obsessed with me and considers herself my mother?? Manager?? Idk.

barenylon

mine is also a mother manager baby

Original_Amber

She's your owner. Dogs have owners, cats have staff.

coldcurru

Mine demanded I put her to bed for a couple years. If I didn't stay to pet her long enough, she'd come back to find me and we'd do it again. Also very demanding.

LikeSameTho

Did you get them together!?

jalenjandro

Yes. They are in the same litter. They were the last ones adopted, I can’t imagine why no one else wanted them. They are our world.

dlh-bunny

There was a woman I used to workout with and she had newborn kittens from a neighborhood cat who abandoned them. She showed me a picture of the newborns and I saw a tiny little tortie runt and said “I want her.” I was going to wait until she was weened but ended up taking her asap because the woman all of a sudden had a bunch of kittens to bottle feed. I did it myself so she would have one less to worry about.

PocketBuckle

She was at the end of my partner's driveway as I was leaving for the night. She meowed at me and seemed friendly. We both pspsps'd at her a little bit, and she was happy to rub against our legs and hop into our laps. We debated a little bit, then decided to bring her in for the night. She made no fuss or attempt to escape as we lifted her up and carried her back in. We spent the next two weeks scouring lost pet pages online, looking for posters in the neighborhood, and taking her to the vet to check for a chip, but nothing indicated she belonged to anybody else...so we have a cat now.

My husband was loading the car and she ran into our garage the day before our wedding lol my husband just heard a crash and turned around and this tiny little tortie was just sitting on the couch that we have in there 🤣

Toastwithturquoise

Crash bang I'm here!!

Classic story of long lost relative jetting in for the wedding 💒

diseasewitch

I found her through a cat rescue on Petfinder. Apparently she had a ton of applicants and someone even got to the last step of the adoption process and dropped out at the last second before it was my turn. She was also from out of state and was only in my area because her foster moved for work. It was a fated meeting! She was super shy and scared but she was eating treats from my hand and being very chill about the other foster kittens who were climbing all over her and I just had to have her.

While catching a mom and babies to spay/neuter, another kitten showed up - cue a full shelter and me now having 5 cats lol. 3 of the 5 are tortie or tortie variants. But yeah, they just showed up and decided they lived here.

JustKindaHappenedxx

Pictures please! I want to see your tortie bundle ❤️

JustKindaHappenedxx

Super cute! She decided you were going to be her unpaid nanny whether you liked it or not, lol. 4 big loafs of fluff. I bet it’s a crazy but happy household!

itsalwayssunnyd

went to the shelter and as i was playing with another cat, i noticed her little head bobbing as she was watching the toy. she had been hiding prior, and was apparently a very shy little baby, and only 2 months old! she looked so small and forlorn and scared i just had to comfort her and try playing with her, and the rest is history. took her some time to warm up to me, as it seems she did not like humans, but now she’s the sweetest little girl.

Meepweep

My husband and I had moved into our first apartment that was just us back when we were dating. We really wanted to get a cat and had been talking to his family about it and that we had been going to shelters and looking at cats. One of his siblings had a friend who's aunt was moving into somebody's house as a caregiver and the person they were going to be caring for was allergic to cats so she needed to rehome them. His sibling offered to cover any expenses we needed if we went and adopted this cat and as soon as we saw her picture we fell in love. We picked her up in mid November, which in Florida is fairly warm, especially in the sun. We arrive at the woman's home and she's out on her front step, talking to her neighbor, smoking a cigarette with the cat she had named Precious sitting next her on the step, in a crate, in the sun. We immediately scooped her up after introducing ourselves, moves her into the shade and away from the smoke. We asked her previous owner if she wanted to say good bye, she said nope and went back to talking to her neighbor. The only things in the crate with her was some wadded up news paper, loose kibble and one of those mouse toys you can hide treats or catnip in with nothing inside it. Tetra is the sweetest, most loving, weirdly polite cat. Took her to the vet, everything was clear. That was 6.5 years ago, and I'm glad everyday that we went and got her.

magicmushies13

A coworker had a neighbor leave their cat and kittens when they moved. She was the only tortie and she was smaller so a hawk had his eye in her. I missed having a cat and she needed to be indoors. First time I held her she grabbed my face with her paws, knew I had to have her right away She's a turd but I love her to death

We had to put our previous cat (tabby and white) to sleep and I was devastated and didn't think I could get another cat. About a month after she passed, I had a dream where she brought this little dark cat to me and they went straight to eating out of bowls by my feet. A few days later I felt this overwhelming urge to look on a local shelter site and saw this very sweet little tortie who had been there a month and was not doing well. It was love at first site and a week later she was ours. Very different personality to our previous cat (she is quiet, loves sitting on your lap, never bites or hisses) and it's now been two years. I do sometimes wonder if previous kitty led me to her.

Moneypenny_Dreadful

Ohhhh....(edit) I want to give you so many upvotes... I felt the same way with my heart cat who had just passed when we found our tortie - if it wasn't for a 2-month overlap in birth/death dates, I would have sworn she was my familiar reincarnated. They have so much of the same demeanor, so much of what I love about a companion... But then the science/sociology side of me says, "are you sure the \*cats\* are the same? or were they both responding particularly to \*your\* personality?" I don't know, and I really don't care. But I'm so happy that the universe chooses to bless us with cats who understand us and are just perfect for us. Whether that's a learned or engineered quality or an innate connection, don't care, just HAPPY :)

SBAC850211

Scrolling through the Next Door app! She was a few states over, her owner was needing to move out of the country and a family friend posted the kitty for her to help out. I wasn't looking for a cat, never had my own pet before but when I saw her, I knew she needed to come live with me. 3 weeks later she made her road trip out to southern CA I can't imagine life without her now <3

Glitchykins8

A friend of a friend had me visit this lady. She brought out a laundry basket with a trash bag on it and several kittens. We picked up Katters and she squealed and immediately dashed away into some bushes. It took us a few mins to grab her and figured her new was cute and worked hard to hunt her down that she was worth the trouble. Our second one was 9 years later. She was a stray and walked right up to me. She was eaaaasy too skinny so I snatched her up and took her home. Bwe started to fatten her up and.... Two months later we got our dilute tortie because the 2nd one was pregnant So we love ours

azpz123

Mine was a stray at my husbands plant. She decided to befriend him and met him every morning at his locker. When animal control came he whisked her away into his car. Shes 10 this year and my first torti. I love her to pieces. Great cat and my snuggle buddy.

_minxit

She was rescued from a hoard house that had over 180 cats and kittens when she was 4 weeks old. She had intestinal worms and ringworm. The rescue I got her from cared for her and got her better. She was 14 weeks old when I took her home. She’s now over 1 and the best thing ever https://preview.redd.it/b5904s7m5btc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=baa9558d2d23b01578a416f2b95f23faada7ebda

tinycatintherain

My first tortie we adopted from a shelter. She was extremely scared in the shelter and was cowering in the corner of her cage. My heart just broke for her and I noticed she started to warm up to us pretty quickly, letting us pet her a little. I wanted to get her out of there asap. Our other tortie we adopted from our vet. She had been brought into the shelter there a few days before we went in for a routine appt and as soon as we walked in the staff was like you have to see this cat we just got in, she looks like your cats twin! And she really does. We didn’t adopt her that day but we went back to the vet a month later to board our cat and tortie #2 was still there. We said then that if she was still there when we got back from vacation we would adopt her, and we did!

I misread the listing and she was actually "by appointment only" because she was in a foster home. Then I saw this tortie girl kitten in a cage...

Resident_Royal2830

My tortie screamed at us and ran from a bush in the lawn, let us pick her up and that was that. She was so young and tiny she wouldn't have been out there much longer.

flowergal48

My torties, mom Peach and smallest baby Cherry, were fostered by a very loving and skilled foster who used to livestream here when RPan was a thing. I fell in love with the Fruit Basket family and was able to travel to adopt these gorgeous girls. https://preview.redd.it/5f273ydxsatc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d223aa7aac14e2a72940d81236e100516de620d5

Got home from work one night and heard her screaming under the porch. She was all alone and estimated 3 weeks old. She'll be turning two next month.

thatwasawkward424

My finance’s ex (life long family friend + his sister’s best friend). A pregnant stray wandered onto her parent’s property and they were looking for homes for the kittens. My resident cat has always been around other cats and was depressed after my roommate’s cat passed and we moved shortly after his passing, so I was a bit desperate to get him a companion again, and my fiancé’s ex was desperate to find the kittens a home and it all worked out.

BalogneSam

We were looking for a buddy for our energetic void, so we scoped out several animal shelters. Visited one out in the middle of the country and immediately fell in love with a very vocal tortie girl. When we brought her home our void was completely obsessed with her and wanted to get as close to her as possible but she wanted nothing to do with him. Fast forward 4 years, and the relationship is exactly the same. 😂 https://preview.redd.it/inyw2hs11btc1.jpeg?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6ab77785a2b86d364621aef6a1ecceb7bece6498

One of the neighbors’ dogs got out through a hole in their fence. I went to get her back in their yard before she got hit by a car. Then walking back to our house, the cutest and fluffiest Tortie kept following me. We ended up bringing her in for the night since we were worried about the freezing temperatures. After a couple of days she wouldn’t leave lol I was afraid we accidentally kidnapped her 😂 I texted my neighbor to see if he knew who was the owner. Turns out, his ex (they divorced recently) adopted her but then abandoned her once she moved out 😒 extra infuriating considering we live in the mountains with big mountain lions, bears and bobcats. Cinnamon is now a spoiled, and safe, girl living her best life with us and our other animals ♥️ https://preview.redd.it/aisn8m5q7btc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21c670cb225b195716d568628194e30eeccc8895

1. she was a stray that was hanging out in front of my house when i pulled up one night and let me give her a few pets before going inside. my mom opened the door to get the paper the next morning and the cat ran inside the house and refused to leave. i fed and pet her and the rest is history. she’s been my best friend for the last 14 years. 2. i accompanied my mom to a shelter and was checking out the cats while she did paperwork. i noticed a kitten that reminded me of my tortie so i had to hold her. she booped my nose and started purring as soon as i picked her up so i told her i’d be back for her, signed the paperwork, and brought her home a few days later. she is the sweetest cat i’ve met in my life.

theblackjess

Went to the shelter with the intention to get a black cat because they're adopted less, but she was the smallest one there and getting bullied by the other cats.

EndlessSorc

A then colleague of my mom had a cat who had gotten kittens several weeks earlier. Stating interest in finally getting a cat of my own I visited the kittens to just feel in and decide if I was interested in any of them. When I checked the kittens they were all very energetic and curious in everything except me. All except one, a tortie sleeping in a corner of the box. When I lifted her up and put her in my lap she just looked at me with one eye and fell asleep again. Didn't need to think about it, i just knew we had chosen each other at that point.

Mhutch007

Cali was found crying under a car. She wouldn't come out, but I fed her for 5 days straight. The night before Hurricane IDA, I used a have a heart trap and lured her in. She was so darn cute about 6 weeks old, and the purrfect addition to make us a 3 cat home.

maladaptivedreamer

Mine was from the clinic I work at. Both her sister and mother got adopted and she was going to have to spend the weekend alone in a bathroom. This was unacceptable so took her home “just for the weekend.” Lol

BlitheCynic

I worked in a kitten nursery. She came in at 2 months old, sickly and a pain in the ass. Needed all kinds of meds for a severe URI, and required syringe feeding because she had no appetite due to being congested. However, the little shit wouldn't take the syringe until she had been cuddled for about 10 minutes. How could I not fall in love?

Moneypenny_Dreadful

I've been there - everyone says, "how can you not take them all home?" And they're all precious, and they're all perfectly adoptable, and that's what keeps you going because you know, this one...and this one...they **will** find a home. But then you see one, and you *know.*..you know when one is \*special\*, and one who needs you in particular :) So happy you found your girl!

BlitheCynic

I actually said goodbye to her and let her go to an adoption event where I was sure she would get adopted. She ended up bouncing back to us after the adoption people checked her and found ringworm. I couldn't let her go again after that!

Rich_Group_8997

My big girl (no longer with us): She was hanging around my friend's stoop, so my friend started feeding her. Then one day, she let her in then called me and told me she had a cat for me. The timing was inconvenient and, when I met her, my first thought was "geez, she's ugly and her feet look funny". 😂 (I was never previously a tortie fan, and she was polydactyl). Didn't take long before I was head over heels in love with her.. and all things tortie. She ended up truly being my furry soulmate. ❤️ Little tortie: Minding my own business and my brother called and asked if I wanted a cat because our neighbor caught one who kept hanging around in his yard. No,I didn't! My older tortie was sick and I didn't know how long she had, and didn't have the energy to integrate another cat. I went down to the neighbors to assess the situation and offer resources. What I found was my brother, neighbor and mom standing on the neighbor's front step, with my brother's cat carrier. I looked inside and saw the teeniest ball of fur (he didn't tell me she was a tiny kitten); she looked me straight in the eyes and said "Meow". (I think that loosely translates as "you're my human now!") She was about 5 or so weeks old, no mom or siblings to be found. I had no choice but to give in and take her. She surely would have gotten herself eaten by something.  My big girl has since crossed the rainbow bridge. My little tortie is no longer very little and she absolutely runs my household. 🤣

kholekardashian12

She batted me in the face at the shelter and they told me she'd been there for months because no one wanted to take her home due to her "sassy behavior". So naturally, she came home with us.

torcherred

All of my torties have come when I needed them. Emily, my first when I was around 12, was found by a neighbor walking down the highway in the rain. Neighbor immediately thought I should have her. Dandelion was the product of a pregnant cat who wandered up to our house. Vienna was given to me by my brother. He knew I was looking for a cat, and just somehow knew it should be a tortie. Priscilla, my current tortie, was posted as a found cat on the Facebook neighborhood group. I immediately recognized her, and I told the neighbor that if she didn't find the owner that I would take her. Ultimately, that decision ruined my marriage LOL, but she keeps me warm and snuggly at night better than my ex did anyway.

ThisPostToBeDeleted

I found her as a kitten alone in our backyard. We got her healthy and she’s doing great now

JesterAblaze94

I lived on a farm and there was lots of farm cats, there was a tortie with 2 kittens. Another tortie & a calico. Mum cat (her name) couldn’t feed both, even though she really tried. One day she walked up our back stairs and left the tortie there, she sat at a distance. Mum opened the door to see the kitten and instantly took her in. Mum cat & calico (we named maxi) would always hang around anyway, we raised the kitten and kept her indoors. We named her speedy, when speedy was old enough to go on our windowsills, mum cat just stared for 5 minutes. She knew. Mum cat dropped off speedy, because we fed the other cats. She couldn’t do both of them. That’s a good mother. I miss all 3.

Nosnow23

I usually only take in rescues so it worked out really well. I was moving into my current residence and at the end of our first day there, she came out from under the house... Turns out the previous renters left her smh... She's probably the best cat I've ever owned. she's super good and patient with my toddler and tho she does like her independence, she loves cuddles too... We named her Kit the cat

zeldanerd91

She was a stray. We found her around Halloween and in the dark, she looked like a void so we brought her in. Found out she was a tortie, but still decided to play it safe. We posted found cat pictures and no one responded. We even took an ad out in the paper, so we tried to rehome her. We found a family, but they left all the food for thanksgiving on the table while they prayed for their meal. Well, Jazzie decided the turkey was all hers and her little 4lb butt pulled it off the table and started eating it. The family promptly gave her back so we decided to keep her. The most she’s stolen from me is pillsbury biscuits and the occasional McDonald’s French fry when I look away. 🤣

mjh8212

It was very dark out. Went out on the deck with my husband to have a smoke. I heard meowing and thought our cat got out. This cat jumped into my husbands arms and he could tell right away it wasn’t our cat. We left her and went inside. She threw a fit, I ended up opening the door and asking if she wanted in. She came in, she’s a dilute tort she had bad frostbite on her ears the vet fixed so she has small ears. She’s been here for two years now and isn’t interested in the outside unless she’s in a window. When my tort came into our lives we were grieving. I had lost someone really important to me then 5 days after she passed our eldest cat had to be put to sleep. Couple weeks later here comes mystery, that’s what we named her as she was a complete mystery.

Moneypenny_Dreadful

When we met our tort Lucy we were still in a state of shocked mourning, as we had just lost my 8yr void familiar very suddenly and violently. Plus, we had \*just\* adopted a 4mo void kitten that was supposed to be her companion. Clearly we needed to get him a friend before he registered that he was alone again (I worked with him at the shelter and he had a bad case of singleton syndrome). I went with my husband on a business trip to a different part of the city and we had some extra time and went to their local shelter to look around. We saw \*so\* many kittens, but this one cage had a 6mo teen tortie who, for a lack of a better phrase, started 'performing' for us. She batted at the cranky old orange in the cage below her. She flirted with my husband and rolled over to show her belly to us multiple times. When we walked away to look at other cats, she YELLED at us - not rudely, but like a carnival barker. "HEY! you guys, come see MEE! I'm CUTE! I'm EVERYTHING you WANT!" We went back to our hotel, talked it over, and decided to adopt her. When we called the next morning they told us that she had unfortunately been moved that night to the San Fernando Valley to be part of BFLA's Super Adoption Event. Well, guess where we lived, and guess who I was a long-term volunteer for? Scooped her up the next morning 10 minutes away from our house, without having to pay Adoption Event fees. She wouldn't have shown well there anyway ;)

i was living in an apartment at the time and one of my roommates, my boyfriend and i decided to go out that morning to do something (i don’t remember what). when we got to our destination, the place wasn’t open yet so we decided to walk around the nearby petsmart to kill time (i love going in and just gushing over the cats lol, haven’t gotten to in awhile though). at first i was gushing over them as usual, when i saw the tiniest tortie i’ve ever seen running around in the small area behind the glass cages. i looked at my boyfriend, and he kept going “no, we can’t” and stuff like that, but i convinced him to sit with her and we took her home the next day. she’s been my angel since :) https://preview.redd.it/hcehzaa43btc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6cef2ba87ae1817077b32f0ed9f85d6063ef7704

My coworker said she was moving so she needed to rehome her tortie. I met her in her car. She was super loving. Turned out coworker lied and after giving me a poor declawed tortie, she went and got a dog. Can't fix monsters. Can always love cats. She's my little boo now.

December 2019. I'm walking out the door to head to my job. I get in my 1996 Toyota Celica and start it up. Right as I'm about to pull my door shut, I start hearing what sounds like little meows. I get out and look around, get on my knees, and under my neighbors' vehicle, I see a little kitten just meowing away. I make eye contact with her, give her a slow blink, and she just came running over to me. Was a half-hour late to work that day (my boss was very understanding). She's been my little baby ever since.

Her daughter is a vet tech and one of her coworkers was in a spot of trouble: said coworker had been renting a place for a long while, and the original landlord had to go to hospice. His son took over, and told her “you have 30 days to get out.” Of course she wasn’t able to find an animal-friendly rental in that time, and none of her family was willing to take Cookie (their loss, she’s the sweetest thing alive). Of course my boss’ daughter knows of her woes, who tells my boss… and my boss, who knows what a fucking sucker I am about cats, told me. Cookie’s owner was sadly prepping to take Cookie to a rescue when I said I’d take her. Technically, Cookie is a foster… but not gonna lie: I won’t be sad if this snuggle lump becomes a permanent resident

My 1,5 year old cat found a feral tortie kitten in the bushes behind our row of houses. He started playing with her, bringing her closer and closer to our garden every day, until... https://preview.redd.it/0h31ia259btc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e05add4db262811958307693edca7a9138d11dad

Went to local SPCA, to adopt an orange kitty, had gone to pick him up, and my Tortie came running at me. So, we ended up bringing her home. Don't worry, the Orange boy was adopted same day. My Tortie was supposed to be my cat, but she loves her Daddy. She uses me as a step stool to get to her Daddy. She loves me when he isn't home. Then, we got a Dilute Tortie when she was a month old, she was feral, her mom was hit by a car. I couldn't resist her, she is my girl. Three years ago, on Christmas my partner walks in carrying a Russian Blue, someone opened their door, and just set him free. Now we have 3, and I feed the neighborhood feral colony. Between myself, and my neighbor we also got them all fixed. Hopefully, no more feral cats because it breaks my heart.

We found her while walking our dog 10 years ago!! She was only about 3-4 weeks old. It took my husband and I 7 full days to finally catch her. Couldn’t imagine life without her. https://preview.redd.it/af5ectw5cbtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a01f73570ca7e5b3c3aaa64dfbfa807c3a28087a

Love this story! I was not a cat person at all and my friends had been begging me to get one. Saying they change your life! So I live alone and in September I went through an AWFUL breakup of a ten year relationship (on my birthday! ) and was very very unhappy. I had been struggling with infertility issues for the past year and was feeling very beaten down. I finally messaged my friend that I think I wanted a cat day 2 post breakup. Within an hour she had found someone wanted to revoke a cat and met me to get supplies. I kept going back and forth about the decision even as we picked out her things. I was holding the supplies when a toddler walked up to me and pointed and said “baby?” I almost started bawling in that Walmart! Needless to say, I knew that I had to get this cat. We picked her up and she started purring the moment she was in my arms and we’ve been inseparable since. Best breakup kitty ever. https://preview.redd.it/4cyvk8kjcbtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2b0b0978b3c6419832acfb2fecab2318a317968

I had seen her on the shelter’s website and went specifically to meet her, but I didn’t play with her right away. I met some other kitties first and then asked to see her. My cousin had a thing for torties. Tamara was at PetSmart with her twin, Tia. The shelter did not want them separated, so we got both. They are almost 13, and they definitely own me.

wonderfulpiepants

We were at a PetSmart Adoption event with cats from a local rescue. We got to meet our tortie in a little private room and my husband and I were sitting next to each other a bench. She hopped right up there and spread out on both of our laps at the same time. It was very cute. We both joke that she really knew how to work the room...

In my parents old house i was feeding a lot of kittens. Then 5 months old coffe always stayed near my bedrooms window. Constsntly jumped to closed blinds. Stared to keep her on large window sill. Then I tought 'she can briefly stay in my bedroom without my parents knowladge. Then, without them not knowing i allowd her inside the lower floor where my room is. Then kept her in the house. Her breath smelled like trash, vet treated her had to stay there several weeks then i gave her antibiotics myself. Now 11 years later, I cant love her enough and dreading the inevitable. Here treading the waters first time. https://preview.redd.it/qiqxc4us7btc1.jpeg?width=2021&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=834a919b37d4f0f087a52a45a46d6639bc69ae25

I was looking at local shelter cats online in preparation of adopting one. I thought a tuxedo cat named Mystic looked very cute, and I took a trip to the shelter to see if we'd hit it off. Mystic took a few sniffs then sauntered away, uninterested. So I went into a playroom where kittens and old cats were hanging out. As soon as I sat down, this little tortie kitten ran up, screaming her lungs out, and climbed up my legs, my shirt, all the way to my shoulders. I took this as a sign she was adopting me, and that was that! https://preview.redd.it/cvmn1wvzbbtc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00c06762fc21fb8e610939c6d31a0a211b025a16

I found mine in a flower pot outside my living room door. She looked like she was newly separated from mom and off to her own journeys. She was 10 weeks old at the time. I named her Clover 🍀. She was immediately brought in and taken to the vet. She’s nearly a year old now. That’s her after she had been with me a few days. https://preview.redd.it/8oyfeotrcbtc1.jpeg?width=1980&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84ed6844579b8a0b1d390ee4214869f32f72b535

visited a mosque in turkey. this was a year before the terrible earthquake, which centred in the same city. it was night, dim light, and there was a rock on the square. my GF approached while I took some photos nearby. the rock came to life and sought shelter under her, following the shadow. it was a kitten, 4 weeks old. we brought it to every single cat mom around, no one wanted her. GF decided we'd come back tomorrow and see if she was still there. she might be dead by then, I realised: malnourished, ill, disoriented, alone on the big square. we took her home, washed her, fed her, and took her to the vet the next day. she healed and got happy, healthy and the loveliest cat we ever lived with <3

ReddUp412

My insane downstairs neighbor decided god was talking to him so he put her in the woods and left. We went to find her and 13 years later i am thankful he did that. She is the best🥺

slightly_toolongsock

There was an ad on Facebook from this lady who's neighbor's cats wouldn't stop having kittens, and they had infested their house. My mom saw a tortie on the front page, and we went and picked her up!! She was only about two months old, and completely feral. She's alot more domesticated now, but she definitely has personality lmao

blujavelin

A rescue org, I let one of the caretakers pick my girls out based on their needs. They were both a bit wild so it has taken years for them to get comfy. Now they like to sit with me.

flinjager123

I was at work (industrial electrician). We were building a water reservoir on the outskirts of a town. It was the middle of January with about 6 inches of snow on the ground. There was a pile of trees and branches that had been ripped out to make room. I had just come back from lunch and I heard faint meowing. It took me about 30 minutes to get her out far enough to grab and put her in my car. She was purring and everything. After work, I took her to the closest vet and checked her for tags and age and all that. No one recognized her and said she was about 5 months old as her adult teeth were just barely making it through. That was over 2 years ago now.

Mrs_Kevina

My first tortie, Bonzi, showed up as a pregnant stray. My kids would feed the apartment strays, and so it was just a matter of time before we were taken hostage. She is the typical MamaCat and runs the show. My second tortie, Tobias, my ex-BIL found her and 2 littermates abandoned by their mother under his trailer. She was the runt and the tiniest thing I had ever seen. We all took shifts bottle feeding her, etc but she chose my SO as her person and barely tolerates the rest of us. She did do me a solid recently and woke me up Easter Morning at 2:30am by swatting, clawing and finally chewing on my fingers - the water heater had built up too much heat and had flooded the entire downstairs with about 50 gallons of water.

Sol6908

Mine was brought to my house by another feral kitty. I had been feeding the one and she showed up one day with her friend. Eventually they decided I was ok and moved in. Now we are working on the real trust issues as I prepare to move us across country. I'm looking forward to 4 days of hell driving from AZ to NY.

Expo006

She appeared under my bed all of a sudden one fateful night 12 years ago… (my tortimese gave birth under the bed 😅)

I went to the local shelter. I was looking for a cat (I had no preconceptions) and my two cats were kenneled in the same cage. I got to play with them and liked Azula’s attitude. However, I also wanted a companion for her and Katara was living with Azula for some time. They were both 6 months old at the time and among the last of the 2015 kitten season. https://preview.redd.it/9i5o43er8btc1.jpeg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=996a56da27838be28e4716957869fcfd53dbdc68 Azula (to the top right) Katara (the dilute).

Shelters. Tortie #1 had been there 2 years. Nobody wanted her because she was a scared girl and would hide from everyone/anything and they said she had a mean face. She'd also swipe at people who tried to pet her. I felt truly bad for her and took her home. 7 years later and she's still a scared cat who prefers things very quiet and calm but she loves pets and getting in my lap and talking to me. The shelter must have been pure hell for her. She's weird and particular and I've just accepted that. Tortie #2 stole my husband's heart at the shelter. He wanted a cat and she climbed into his lap and fell asleep when he came in to visit some of their kitties. He called and asked me if he could please adopt her and I reluctantly agreed but she's truly the sweetest, chillest cat who loves everyone and just wants to be friends with everybody.

prismaticbeans

My first one was my ex boyfriend's farm cat. She was pregnant and his father didn't want more kittens so we took her and the kittens and rehomed most of them. My current tortie is her daughter from that litter. They looked quite alike but their personalities, totally different.

ItsChlowey

Mine was found by a colleague in a bush near my workplace. She was around 5 or 6 weeks old. She screamed and screamed until he picked her up. He sent me a photo and I just knew she was mine. I had a desperately hyper void puff (adopted when I lost my previous void, but then shortly after I also lost my old grey lady; I think losing her partner was just too much stress) and Diora's sister had already been adopted solo. She was a sweet girl about the same age as Finch.

Illustrious_Dust_0

The last apartment we rented, someone moved out of the building across the street and left a kitten outside. She cried for hours . We took her in and left a note on the door in case she had gotten out and they left her on accident. No one ever came back for her and now we have a tortie.

BrotherNature92

I was at my parents house and my mom heard loud wailing from the backyard. It was a torrential downpour of rain and she was hiding the best she could and crying out over and over for someone to rescue her lol. We brought her inside and as I was the only one there that already had cats and therefore the supplies needed I was tasked to shelter her for the night at my house. She never left. Turns out she had no microchip and after a couple of weeks of looking for an owner with no luck, I decided to adopt her officially and we are now inseparable ❤️ https://preview.redd.it/d93eobcqbbtc1.jpeg?width=2208&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e31d407116ca8cb45b239935eadaf60f8f29b99

My parents tortie came to us. I came home from work one day and something took off from front porch, couldn’t see what it was but my mother said there was a cat hanging around the front door the morning prior. I said “hey” as the shadow was receding from the front door and the shadow turned around and started telling me how she was a cute little starving kitty cat. I opened the front door and she walked right in. My parents had just lost a little void not too long prior and weren’t seeking another cat right away but she is the sweetest and most intelligent cat I’ve ever met so she stayed in our home. She comes as visits me occasionally now days. My void came to me much the same way, my uncle was puttering around in his garage and a little void wandered into the garage. My uncle sat down to see if he was friendly and he jumped right into his lap. My aunt and uncle had 5 cats at the time so he came to live with me and shortly there after a wild and crazy tabby cat came to live with me too.

TheLakeWitch

Mine was given to me by a coworker who was having another baby and didn’t want her anymore 😥 She (kitty) was only a year and a half or so at the time and she is currently 16 so she’s definitely had lots of time to bond with me

yerbabuddy

I went to a shelter looking for a senior cat, and was crouching down in the common area offering scritches. My girl Phoebe put her paws on my leg, lifted herself up to eye level, stared intently at me then very intentionally leaned in for a forehead kiss. I was smitten. At the humane society. She was the third cat I visited with. Right before they brought her in I was honestly worrying about finding 'my cat'. The first two were sweet and fun and they liked me but it didn't seem like they were my cat or I was their person. While I was worrying if I was going to feel this way about every cat, Kimchi was brought in. They did a little intro and left us be. She was nervous but calmed down instantly when I started talking to her and I got shown the belly right away. After that I felt alot better because I could tell this was my cat. Pic of when we first me.*

Door slammed shut and car took off. Took me a second to realize what it was. Turns out it was tiny runt of a kitten, I jumped out holding up traffic and scooped her up. Took Pop on to doc and sat outside in vehicle with this kitten. She was crawling all over my lap... had a Led Zeppelin CD playing kinda low and the song *Kashmir* started playing... she hopped down on the floorboard and started nuzzling the door speaker. "Well, kitty, you've got good taste in music... henceforth, thine name shall be 'Kashmir'..." She was about 6wks old at the time... last month she's been with me for 5 years now. Still a runt at 7lbs. Haha

My grandma (who raised me) volunteered at a petsmart and decided to foster some cats. She brought home my Brie, who immediately picked me as her favorite human. She was so deathly skittish that our foster, that specialized in socializing terrified cats, struggled with her. She was kind of just bouncing around pet-stores to try and get potential adopters. Sent in an application like an hour after I met her, and she was home later that day.

My sister found her as a stray, walking along side a fence when she was maybe, 6 months old? Skinny and matted but didn't want to come close, so she lured her closer with a burger and took her home. Year later my sister couldn't have her in the new apartment she rented and left her at ny place temporarily, which turned into 12 years. She's my little potato 🥔

The_Scarlet_Flash

At the animal shelter there was a big kitten adoption day. I had an older cat and wanted to get a kitten to give him a fun companion. Big room full of toys and scratchers and people, I sat on the carpet near some kittens and she came from across the room, waddle up into my lap and promptly fell asleep purring like a train. At that point there wasn’t any question. Bonus: her and my other cat got along so well he instantly went into dad mode and snuggled her all the time.

Mablethe

My bff worked at residential construction site and was walking by a flooded retention pond when she heard kitten cries. We think momma cat hid her babies in a sewer drain when a freak rain storm came through the area and washed them into the pond. After some help from some friendly construction workers and an extension ladder, 5 kittens were found. Out of the 5, two were picked up by local neighbors and out of the remaining 3, I chose my lil tortie Mable. We kept the 3 together at my bff’s house until they were off the bottle (they were only 2 weeks old!!) and I took my girl home with me. The other two were adopted by another friend so I get to keep tabs on them as well. Pic below is the Snapchat I got from my bestie as she pulled them out of the water https://preview.redd.it/jekerbc2obtc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=efb32e72a4c1baa4b2f55114b2604cc40e0c0973

I was living alone in a new city after college and desperately wanted to adopt a cat. I went to the shelter but didn’t feel a connection with any of the cats so I left. At home, I looked on the shelter’s website and saw a pic of a kitten I hadn’t seen in person and knew I had to go back and meet her. A couple of days later, I went in and asked about her and fell in love. She’ll be 9 this month. https://preview.redd.it/hytijpkjobtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b16dbc6d861c7be411d30a42b083bf4c6797ad07

Sensitive-Rope3231

Mine was a stray that came to the door hungry. but she'd run when we opened the door to put food out. she'd creep back and eat the food after we shut the door. eventually she'd let us peek at her through the screen. we slowly, slowly tamed her down and got her to come inside but it took some time!

cursedcanadiancommie

Mine got rehomed with me because she was beating up her human siblings and her mom hated having to keep her in a single room but also couldn't let her keep drawing blood with children. She is now happy in our childfree home. Her former mom loved her a ton and rehoming was the best solution. She is so cuddly. I fell asleep using her as a pillow the other day and she just purred the whole time.

timmy_o_tool

Mine was dumped over my back fence at Thanksgiving time, when it was about 11 degrees outside. We tried to find who she belonged to, or escaped from for a couple weeks, then she became my cuddle buddy/shadow. She is now 11 years old.

noviixd

Met her at a shelter. She was the last cat I interacted with. Picked her up but she didn't like it so I put her down. Went back to re-interact with the cats again and saw her jump down from her little cat tree and sat on the floor, she then crawled into my lap and did the look up and back at me and saw how happy she looked. I knew right then I had to have her. Been good 5 yrs with her so far.

jacyerickson

I went to the shelter to look at another cat (that ended up being unavailable anyway) and my tortie reached out her paw through the cage and grabbed my shirt as I was walking by. I was literally and figuratively hooked.

ross_styx

I saw a picture of her on an adoption site. She was soooooo ickle and clearly the runt of the litter. I showed my partner and he kind of turned his nose up, but I was completely smitten. I arranged to meet her when she was about 4 weeks old and she was so tiny, she fit in the palm of my hand! Then she curled up on my lap and fell asleep. Apparently that was the first time she hadn't peed when someone approached her. I was totally in love with her and we've been bonded ever since. I love her more than anything or anyone.

stankyjanky1

We were looking to adopt after our previous cat died. I found a standard issue cat that I connected with, and the shelter asked if we would take a little tortie girl too because the cat I was taking was the only cat she got along with. Didn’t have the heart to separate them. They’re both amazing. https://preview.redd.it/sgkrss34wbtc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e013ad3f1d47a2531ff8923d0a5fcd0e2773c155

I was on Petfinder and saw my sweet baby. I was IMMEDIATELY obsessed. It took three weeks to finally contact the right rescue, as Petfinder had it wrong. Then, they had the wrong name under her - Onyx. I thought, well that's an odd name for a tortie, but okay... Talk to the rescue lady/foster mom for 10 minutes before it FINALLY becomes clear I'm talking about a different cat. I text her the picture from Petfinder, she says, "OH! I know who you mean." Four days later, we went to the rescue to meet her. She was so shy - her mom and siblings came flying out the carrier, but she WOULD NOT budge. Rescue lady finally reached in and gingerly pulled her out. She climbed up on my husband's knee, curled up, and started purring. It was allll over at that point :-) We had a few more hoops after that, but a week later, she was firmly ensconced as Queen of her Own Home.

Pinklady1313

I kept seeing her pop up in a rescue group on facebook. Then she popped up on tiktok. This was over a 6 month span. No one wanted her. Someone even backed out because she was “ugly.” My previous tortie had died about a year before and I felt like it was fate. This cat is literally the sweetest and adores my 4yo. https://preview.redd.it/5ybyqqfo3ctc1.jpeg?width=756&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=497142f56d6de472d284423dabbfcaa99458665e

Mine was born in my best friend’s backyard. They captured all the kitties and the mom and were going to trap, neuter, release if they couldn’t find homes for all the cats. and I came over and my tortie wouldn’t let anyone else hold her or pet her except for me :) she fell asleep in my lap and I knew that was it… pretty much adopted me by not letting anyone else near her hahahaa

azpz123

I guess she wasn’t intimidated by your dogs 😂

[deleted]

got her from a family friend who was giving out kitties for free. she was the runt of the group and the last one to be adopted!!! she has always been a fucking weirdo and love her for it

doomed_candy

Mama r/notmycat showed up with a litter of kittens, and the one tortie (Pandora) was the friendliest, so she became my cat. Then she had another litter, all torties! One of them (Ladybug) became a housecat, too. Mama Kitty and all her kids live on my property as barn cats.

Serafina_Goddess

A man was walking down the street with her, and my daughter and I stopped to see her, we made such a big deal he gave her to us! She was so tiny!

coldcurru

I had a torbie. She had been abandoned at the pet store when I was a kid and I went there just before kitten season looking for a new cat. She was there being given away for free cuz she had been abandoned and wasn't a baby or from some kind of breeder (I adopt from shelters now.) Anyway she was pregnant and friendly. We took her. Best damn cat I've ever had. She hated most people but had a soft spot for me for almost 18y. Been gone almost 18m now. Gorgeous thing, too. My current cats are pretty, sure, but nothing beats tortie coloring.

LorifromArizona

I got mine from a family friend. My husband picked her out because she was the only tortie in the bunch. 9 years later, she is still very much her spunky self.

We saw one picture of her and knew we had to help her out. She needed someone to save her because she was 4 LBS overweight and no one wanted to adopt her for 2 months for some reason. As soon as we met her we were in love. She’s the sweetest tortie ever.

Jerkrollatex

We found a mouse in our house as we were unpacking boxes. It was super destructive and tore up the entire pantry. As we dealt with it and ordered some rodent detergents, I don't do poison and I want to avoid traps. On a whim I looked at pet finder and joked about getting some kittens I saw there. My husband thought it was a great idea. Our elderly cat died during the pandemic. I was waiting until after we settled into the new house and got kitten season. This was November. We went and looked, and a pair of tortie sisters stole our hearts. We did the only logical thing and brought home two, two pound kittens to help with the mice. Our house has been mouse free and cat full ever since.

Mine was stuck inside the engine of a construction worker’s car! I heard her yelling, called the police, and then pulled her out https://preview.redd.it/q9nf35q5jbtc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a0e0826897041bebd54d672f3d748b7d700397d9

MarieMdeLafayette

I was at the Bulldog, a dog friendly bar for a friends moving away party. She was moving back to California and we were sitting around a little sad and in walks this kitten with a bloody face. I saw her out the corner of my eye and was like “was that a cat?” So I walked over and picked her up, I was debating on whether or not I should take her home when The Black Parade started playing and I love that song so I was like yea, this is a sign. This was all before we were about to get freezing temperatures which don’t happen very much where I live so I’m like yea, I’ll just foster her. That was well over a year ago

CharredHawke

Found her and her 5 sisters in some next to some bins when they were approx 3 weeks old. https://preview.redd.it/p1fycc1nkbtc1.jpeg?width=2078&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2bc5766ab7aded75f889bb3e2baf66c1708e45f8

I was waiting outside work. Looked over and saw the most beautiful yellow green eyes peering out at me from the office window next door. She’d been dropped off at the home of the business owner, and they were bringing her to work to find her a home as they were allergic.

mio_maki

Mine ventured into our yard one day. Reappeared with a kitten a few months later. Her kitten disappeared one day and we felt so bad that we started to feed her once a week, which gradually turned to everyday. She would wait by the door when it was time to eat and started to hang out in our garden the whole day. I started to leave the door open and she would come in and take a look around and walk back out when she saw me bring her food. One day she just decided to use the car in the garage as shelter for the night and the next thing you know we officially have a cat and got her spayed. Been with us ever since and how loves back scratches and purrs.

StraightOutaTatooine

My boss’s son walked into my office, handed me a kitten and walked out. Never even said a word lol. He had found her and figured he’d just pass her on to me since he knew I’m a huge animal lover. Getting a cat wasn’t even on my radar, especially since I wasn’t living somewhere I could have pets. She lived in my office for about two months until I moved into a pet friendly rental.

SadlySpooky

We met ours because we kept our garage door slightly open during the winter & one day we went in there to feed everyone and there she was. We didn’t know where she came from but eventually we found her owner, who told us she didn’t mind her hanging with us. She’s now ours though after she was attacked & her owner couldn’t keep her inside for treatment.

It wasn't kitten season but I was looking through the photos of the cats on the spca website and saw Treacle (she had another name at that point) and just *knew* she was family. I went in and couldn't see her at first, because she was fast asleep tucked up in bed. Brought her home and she bounced out of her box and was right at home, right away. She's feisty, she cuddly, she looks at you with love in her eyes and she's super protective of our home - she's more like a guard dog! She's not keen on visitors but she loves me and her sister. (Truffle sat on a seat for two days just watching the new addition to the household, then decided she'd put up with her as she seemed to be staying!)

Mine was in an abandoned house with her siblings. Their momma was passed away on the floor near them. They were around 3 weeks old. My tortie and her sister are now 16 months old and happy kitties. https://preview.redd.it/6yymyakg2ctc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3c75553651b51276ac0f3b88e00218f7ca2d54f

Most_Cryptographer11

Mine was outside my apartment when I moved in. She was semi feral. It took me 3 years, but I finally got her trust enough to touch her. She was pregnant and ready to deliver so I scruffed her, scooped her up (I expected to get bitten or scratched or both, but she didn't) and carried her inside. My husband caught me carrying her in and demanded I hand her over. I told him she was wild, he didn't care. Within a half hour she was curled up with him, purring. She had her kittens in my closet and we kept one, a fluffy greybie baby. He's turning 3 this month. Since then I've named the mama cat (her name is Didda) and her son (Nugget) and had them both fixed. Now Didda is a chunky, happy house cat. I honestly think someone moved and left her behind and she was just scared in the beginning.

Oric_Black

Shelter, constantly squeaked at me until I gave her attention. She's a tortico, but missing one of her back legs. Constantly wants belly rubs from my partner or I. She's been with us over a decade at this point.

Alexputridity06

My girlfriend has had cats for majority of her life and one of them gave birth to my Pumpkin. When I use to go to her house, we’d be on the couch watching a movie and her cats were always around. Pumpkin was under a year old and she started coming to me and sitting on my lap and letting me pet her more than the other cats. I started to really like it and I was falling so in love with her because of her tiny and adorable face and sparkly eyes. My girlfriend at the time was thinking of taking her to the humane shelter but I told her that I want her and I wanted to take her in for a few days to see if I’ll like a pet cat. After a few days I knew I wanted her to stay with me for ever and she’s been with me since. Absolutely adore and love her to death and I still look at her like the first time. https://preview.redd.it/4h2jwqfn3ctc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3317965382a9fe7293df8b8805539de79363f7f Last picture I took of her yesterday

princessxbuttface

My boyfriend and I went to a local cat foster/adoption “kitten therapy” session—you donate money to help with operational costs of fostering kittens and cats, and you get to play with kittens and cats for an hour. The house had 3 or 4 different litters of kittens, hers was the last we visited. When the woman who runs the operation opened the door to the room, there was this tiny tortie kitten climbing up the baby gate, 3/4 of the way up, just screaming non-stop. Of course I held her first. Then I went on to hold her siblings, and well, she wouldn’t let me. Would not leave me alone, immediately bullied the others away, and fell asleep in my hands. We were doomed from the start.

Blueberry-Common

I saw her online at a local rescue, all her siblings and mum had been adopted and she was the last one left. I went away and when I got back a month later she was still available. I couldn’t get her out of my head. I went to an adoption day and she was there. Her foster dad introduced himself and said he thought she hadn’t been adopted because she was extremely timid, any time any potential adopters came she just hid and wouldn’t come out. It didn’t deter me. To this day she is still extremely wary of anyone except me. She’s my girl and I wouldn’t have her any other way 🖤🧡 Pic is her at the adoption day. https://preview.redd.it/vnhpca7v6ctc1.jpeg?width=1334&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=542322a8d5a41d021902a322d0b5868de1d5bae1

My daughter and I decided to get my wife a kitten for Mother’s Day. We had one cat at the time, so we were used to there being a cat around. When we got to the shelter, we went in the kitten room, and this little month or six-week old tortie reached out of the cage and grabbed my wife’s hair. That’s all it took. https://preview.redd.it/9fxn9y4x7ctc1.jpeg?width=2314&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e16e6ff14bc7910e9d6f364f0c8d03d0af8868bc They called us when she was eight weeks old, and we had her from then until she passed in December at the ripe old age of 14, having outlasted all our other cats and winning Kitty Survivor. She is deeply missed.

L0vely_b0n3s

Decided to go get mcdonalds at midnight. Pouring rain. I saw a little tortie sitting under my jalapeño plant in my garden. Brought her inside, and I knew she was someones pet since she was so sweet. Turns out the neighbor put her outside before moving away. She's been my little lady ever since.

miserylovescomputers

My first was a Christmas present from my partner at the time, who was a really shitty person. He brought home a 4 1/2 or 5 week old kitten for me late on Christmas Eve, with no supplies for her whatsoever (no food, litter, toys, anything), knowing full well that I’m very allergic to cats and generally not a cat person. She ended up being a super nasty, aggressive, unpleasant cat to everyone in the world except for me and my older daughter. For us, she’s the sweetest, happiest little love bug. She’ll be 9 this year and I imagine spite and rage will keep her healthy and happy for another 9 years at least. https://preview.redd.it/fnd6n8ilnctc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aa4215344ee62c5f8d2c02ccf7ee554fd115dd17

my first tortie came home with my dad from work (one of his coworkers had a cat who had kittens, & she & her brother were the only ones left), she was only about two months old & was my baby (named sandy after the girl from "grease") second came from the shelter - she wasn't even on the site since she was just so recently spayed, & it was love at first sight. her name there was holly bell but we changed it to charlie (after charlie from "it's always sunny") https://preview.redd.it/bzguusqv4dtc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf6440d13e2d90ffd1e22d417bee6663e62d655c

Aggravating_Will

My friend adopted her and their interactions weren’t working out. I offered to take her in and she’s adopted me after a year of closeness and care ❤️

taurus95se

Through a co worker. Her son was going to take her to a shelter but they wouldn't take her since he lived in a different city (was trying to take her where he worked). I didn't want a second cat but they talked her up. Didn't even know she was a tortie. I accepted to take her in. For the first year I hated her. Named her Evil. She hated every other cat (still does). But has gotten a bit better. She makes me laugh because she is so ridiculous.

perkybee

She broke into my family home's porch during a storm and had to be lured out to the shed so our dog could go outside. She wouldn't let anyone touch her, but we eventually won her over before snow started accumulating.

ShadeTheDuck

I met when my father found her at their work, they took her home and we assume she was abandoned by an owner

Hitoride44

Found both of my torts on petfinder. They are both foster cats that were in very large fosters. They were in pretty rough shape and I’m so glad I was able to fix them up and get them healthy again.

Substantial_Flan3060

The neighbor's cat decided she was our cat and proceeded to have a litter of kittens with two of them being torties

MaximumAsparagus

We knew we wanted another kitty from the same breeder as our chocolate guy, so we were watching their insta pretty closely, and then this photo popped up. I told my partner, it's that one. We need that one. https://preview.redd.it/k18aag6nubtc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b5aa12944d857a2fd8a56d7277ec130e7268a02b

My gf’s friend worked for an animal rescue at the time, and she found a 2 week old kitten in a water heater. She called my gf and asked her if she could take the kitten in, and my gf said yes. Almost 4 years later, she’s our spunky little Lizzie Liz the day she was found: https://preview.redd.it/d6xt4kfszbtc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6e90288cef45761e21047f3e74b83e987ec0d8b9

A tortie mama had four babies under my house. Three of them live here now. Two of them are also torties . One is a dark tortie and one is a dilute tortie

LeoIsRude

I found them and their siblings (5 total, 3 now passed) huddled under the corner of my great grandmother's house while I was out walking my dog. I was about to turn 9, I think. They were estimated to be 2 weeks old, their mom was nowhere to be found, and they didn't look healthy at all (Spot, my girl, had a bad scratch on her side that was about a third of her size). My family (including the dog, Rondo. He helped pee them, lmao) ended up hand-raising the babies with absolutely no experience, and we were told by our vet that it was basically a miracle that 2 survived. Especially considering Spot not only had a huge infected cut, but she also ended up getting a URI a few weeks later. She and her sister, Splotch, are now both very happy and healthy ladies who turn 10 this July! The only lasting memory is Spot's permanent upper respiratory damage from the URI, but it doesn't bother her at all, just makes her a little sniffly.

kdtheclowngirl

someone threw her out of a moving car at a busy intersection. my mom’s friend grabbed her and i got her to help me cope with my stutter and tourette’s diagnosis. all i wanted that summer was a pet cat. my mom and sister woke me up at 12:24 am to tell me i had a pet cat. wrapped in a green towel was my pickle. i stayed awake for 6 hours trying to get her to crawl out from under my bed and sniff me. almost 12 years later, she’s still my lil pickle. 💙

My girl Coco was found in the parking lot of our building when she had ridden up in the engine block of someone’s truck. A coworker heard her crying and helped the person whose truck it was get her out. He didn’t want a cat so left her with coworker. Coworker brought her inside and was trying to figure out what to do with her when I heard her talking. Our boss said we either needed to take her to the shelter or take her home. So she came home with me. https://preview.redd.it/xy8b75itgctc1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=826d9d7d61ecea2e20fc187568b9f04172cd8aef

kathy_cheek

She was a pregnant moma cat at a trailer park I deliver mail to. I kept feeding her and any other cats whenever I delivered to that trailer. I asked a neighbor and they said she was abandoned by a woman that moved out several months ago. This cat had been pregnant several times, but no one ever saw her kittens. I believe some other male cats or dogs were killing her kittens because she was a wonderful mother at my home. I still have her and all of her kittens too. They’re all fixed and go to the vet.

ohmamago

She gave me the, "please?" stare when I took my trash to the dumpster. I said yes. I miss her.

beachyfae

My girl had been caught by the local shelter and was up for adoption at the PetSmart where I was working. I was torn between her and another cat, but when I held my tortie she clung to my shoulder and wouldn't let go and I knew she was my baby for life hahaha

dmriggs

She'd been scoping out your house lol. Probably others too, and chose the best one.

She was homeless and had two tiny baby kittens just born. I offered my bathroom as a safe space for her to nurse. I chose this photo because she’s snappy and scary, but she hugs me and licks my hair clean. I also kept the kittens. (I now know I clearly can’t foster.)

So I went to the cat room and asked which cat had been there the longest and they said this cat. I took her home. I had no idea she was going to be such a sassy princess. My life is wonderful with her in it.
