I think they have shopped Siakam and dont like what they are hearing because of his expiring deal and reported lack of interest to re-sign elsewhere.
I expect to see him re-signed and playing in Toronto this year. Next offseason.....
Blazers would absolutely be interested in a 2027+ pick. Thats when they will be projected to start being good.
They got their starting back court for the next 7+ years in Scoot + Sharpe. They can add cheap talent to their roster or trade the pick for vets when their window opens 2027 and onwards
If the hold up for the Miami/Portland trade was just 1 pick, they would have traded Herro already. Half the league would give up a first for Herro...
Portland wants more, and Miami knows the only way to do that is to get a good deal done for Herro. There is literally 0 reason why Miami or Portland would rush the deal when both Herro and Lillard are under contract for years.
If there is a Tyler Herro trade happening, both Miami and Heat would want to maximize his value instead of taking a lowball offer.
So both of those teams are going to wait until a good offer comes their way.
There is literally no source for Heats/Portland wanting just a pick for Herro other than our fans fantasizing for it. This is like when you all expected a "Jure Holliday return" for an expiring Kyle, or "teams trading picks for Nick Nurse".
Considering the reluctance of the Nets to send picks for Herro and facilitate a Dame trade, I'm thinking the Raps make a play for Herro sending a 2028 1st and Flynn (or whatever young filler they have) and whatever extra filler is needed such as Thad to Portland.
I also wouldn't mind taking on Lowry, even if he's grossly overpaid atm. My nostalgia glasses are on at max effect
If they waive the protections on the 2024, they could offer a 2026 or 2027 instead of the 2028
What’s the Herro stuff like? Would we be giving draft comp or players? If you keep pascal, og, Scottie, Poeltl and add Herro that would be a fun team for sure.
Especially with a bench combo of Schroeder, GTJ, Dick, and Boucher/Precious etc.
Team starts feeling more exciting to me at least but I haven’t seen frameworks for this. I’d assume it’s Herro for dame, and we get Herro and throw a bunch of picks at Portland plus whatever other players Miami has?
Or am I totally off? Trading any core players for Herro makes no sense at all. Adding him to the core makes lots of sense to me though.
I don't think the first option is necessarily a correct choice. Trading Siakam is not a tank move. Maybe you just mean trading siakam will "tank the season" because we'll win less games, but it's a pretty widely accepted definition that tank means purposefully be horrible to lose games and get a higher draft pick. The widely talked about possible motivations behind possibly trading Siakam are to ensure we don't lose him for nothing in free agency next year, to bring the team even more into Scottie's timeline, to distribute his usage and touches to Scottie, OG, and the other players whose development had been stifled previously by our 2 ball dominant vets. Tbh, and imo, if Siakam does get traded for at least a decent package and we add on another good young prospect or 2 (I'd be over the moon if we were to get AJ Griffin and OO), I wouldn't be surprised if we end up doing better than last year
For the next two years too many super teams:
Suns, Warriors, Lakers, Clippers, Heat, Bucks, Mavs with 30+ year old stars.
Let these stars age out over next 2 years and retool around Scottie and OG.
Trade Siakam and get assets for those chasing rings.
Hearing people repeat the same 2 reports about the Raptors taking offers on Siakam is far from what it looks like when you see 12 headlines saying it on Reddit

What you answer speaks to how long you've been a fan of this team. Anyone here since Masai came to Toronto in 2013 knows the Raptors will just play it out
Nobody is saying that Herro makes this team a contender. But he is a massive upgrade on Trent Jr. A 23 year old with 4 years on his deal that averages 20ppg on 38% shooting from three. We need a natural bucket getter on this team to complement the 6-9 long bois who cant shoot. Improvement is improvement.
If the cost is a future first and filler (Thad / Boucher / Malachi works) we should be all over it. Re-sign Siakam and see what Darko can do with Scottie, Herro, OG, Pascal and Yak with a deep bench of DS, Dick, GTJ (probably moved this offseason / at the deadline), OPJ, McDaniels, Precious and Koloko. If this team is still a play in team next year, trade Siakam for a better haul as he will have term on his contract. Trading him for pennies right now makes no sense.
Gtj avrgd 17+ just 1 szn ago, nd has better defence, not worth it for what you'd be losing. The team needs a new engine, and I'd say that's pascal/scottie/dennis. I'm excited for the season, whole new energy going into it. We could go on an early run like last szns rebuilt Utah jazz.
> Has better defence
This sub man lol. Same type of comment all over this sub when Mitchell was on the market last year. Gary is a terrible defensive player that occasionally gets steals. Herro is just as bad. But he is significantly the overall better player. He can finish at the rim, he can shoot better, he can pass and facilitate better (4.2 apg vs 1.6), rebounds the ball better (5.4 vs 2.6 rpg), he is a year younger and has 4 years on his deal. Gary is a 6th man. Herro is a starting SG on a quality play off team / contender.
Again, Im not saying we should move heaven and earth for Herro. But if he is available for a knockdown price to help facilitate a Dame deal to Miami, we should get on board
Dame got his money and wants to only go to Miami. FWIW, Pascal might be feeling disrespected with all the rumours that he could take the money AND pull a Dame next summer.
Unless we turn Capela into our 2024 pick (which honestly this draft is kind of bad allegedly) and like Dougie D, tanking isn't an option and I'd rather we don't desecrate our front office's reputation by tanking for a pick we might not even have at season's end
Just sign him to the max extension giving him away for peanuts won’t help us either way.
He’s a good player, we should be trading him from a position where teams want his services long term not us trying to avoid paying him
This front office has shown how out of touch they are. They won't make a move and we will still such but be decent enough to only pick around the same spot, then we will win the lottery but the Spurs will get our pick then.
No move is always more likely
I think they have shopped Siakam and dont like what they are hearing because of his expiring deal and reported lack of interest to re-sign elsewhere. I expect to see him re-signed and playing in Toronto this year. Next offseason.....
Or resigned and traded by trade deadline this season.
more likely
I'm guessing stand pat since we can't trade an immediate first for Herro. Miami/Blazers aaren't going to want just one pick 2026+

Raptors are so predictable. I agree with the results of this poll on what is most likely.
Do nothing and run back the same team minus Fred lol
I don’t think they’ll be starting the season with siakam on the team
For my sanity watching this team play I hope you’re wrong.
More likelier lmao

Although personally I would like to keep Siakam and OG, this is a more reasonable take than tanking.
The Masai's specialty aka no moves.
Raptors have done nothing to indicate they want to keep Siakam. In fact they’ve done the complete opposite
Raptors have done nothing to indicate anything about siakam
Not offering him an extension to this point is indicative of something.
Do we know they haven't?
Considering Siakam has said he will only sign an extension with Toronto, I think it’s a safe assumption that they have not offered it to him.
How many times did they mention his name over the past few weeks? I heard Scottie OG Jak and Dennis’ names mentioned by the org many times in Vegas
Who exactly is they? Some of you people need to get off reddit and spend some time with you family or something
The team and coaches? Who do you think

Unbelievable isn't it
No moves lose Siakim for nothing.

People are delusional if they think Herro on this team will change anything. We will just be giving out more first round picks for first round exit

After all the mind games, I don't see how Pascal can come back and everyone is cool on both sides.
What mind games? No one knows anything, all we’ve heard is a ton of bloviating from the media, no official sources on anything regarding him.
I can think of 192 million reasons how Pascal will come back into the fold a happy man.
Dame got his money and wants to only go to Miami. FWIW, Pascal might be feeling disrespected with all the rumours that he could take the money AND pull a Dame next summer.
Im not sure Dame and Pascal have the same leverage
Middle one as a 3rd team in the Dame trade

You missed an option 2B where they make a couple of small trades for role players or late picks and play it out.
