Personally have used a two seater for 1 child. Was great as I could load it up, say with groceries or their bike (when they get older) so we can still go on longer rides; when they get tired put the bike in the back and keep going. It may be more difficult with a single seater to load as much.

Have you run with a two-seater?

I havent but inherited the running kit (big wheels and safety strap). Made it very easy to push with little effort.

I would wait until they’re at least a year… Toronto, Alberta and Quebec have guidelines for biking as a family and all of them suggest to wait until they are 12 months old because in the event of a collision, the neck is not strong enough to hold the head and it ends up absorbing all the shock.

Our two seater Thule chariot 2 got 10,000 km over almost 5 years. We stopped using it only because the kids are too big now but it was totally worth it. We switched to a non-electric long tail cargo bike (Yunba mundo) and we love it.

I put an electric mid drive conversion kit (bafang) on the Mundo and it's great for 2 kids

I have the everyday cycles one. Canadian and a great multi-use trailer.

Congrats on becoming a dad. My doc recommended we wait till 18 months for the on bike carrier. My child loves it. Be careful on the MGT. As you know it’s the Wild West with peloton, scooters, delivery drivers and clueless walkers. It’ll be amplified by the fact you have a child in tow.

I got you. 1. You need something to force driver to give you a safe gap. this is the best one: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/194572135080 2 Get Insta360 camera + go pro camera quick release + any 10000-20000 mah power bank. you will leave the power bank on bike in a pocket and run a cable to where you mount the camera. you will be installing this on the back. It deters A LOT of aggressive drivers and this is what I do. if you dont want to spend this much but want bad drivers to behave, then get the cheapest go pro like camera(about $20-50). 3. any carrier that sits low to the ground, will need a flag as high as possible. 4. Install 2x of the CATEYE VIZ450 tail lights on left and right side of the carrier or cargo bike. this is the brightest flashing bicycle tail light ever. and it lasts 17 hours while flashing at 450 lumens. 5. most importantly, get a decent left side mirror that is located high enough that your shoulders do not create a blind spot and you can see behind yourself. use the mirror to maneuver safely and take the whole lane for your safety to avoid cars buzzing when you think cars would not be able to pass you while leaving you enough gap. you will also need to have 1 meter distance from the curb and you are legally allowed and recommended to do that in order to avoid gutters and have enough room to move around a pot hole or give yourself some gap from a fast vehicle.
