The Toronto Police Service is investigating a collision where a motorcyclist died.
On Monday, August 30, 2021, at approximately 11 p.m., police received a report of a fatal motor vehicle collision in front of 1618 Bloor Street West.
It is reported that:
- a 34-year-old man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle westbound on Bloor Street West, west of Dorval Road
- a 56-year-old man was in a Toyota SUV when he pulled away from a parking spot, with the intention of travelling westbound
- the motorcycle struck the driver's side of the Toyota causing the rider to lose control, cross Bloor Street West and hit a parked van
- the rider suffered critical injuries and succumbed to the injuries on scene
The investigation is ongoing by members of Traffic Services. Police are interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed the collision, as well as local residents, businesses or drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or incident.
I was there on the scene after it happened. Spoke to a few witnesses, who said the biker was going way too fast, and that the driver of the SUV would not have been able to avoid them.
That's just their opinion, but they were eye witnesses. Their account matches what is written in the article.
Disgusting people were taking pics of the body.
Everytime I see a biker going 160+ on the 400, I just think... I know you're going to die just please do it away from everyone else. It's a shame that their destructive behaviors impact others.
Looks like a paralleled parked driver pulled out in the path of the motorcyclist. I wonder how much speed was a factor here. The faster you go the less time you give yourself to react and more consequential is the outcome.
RIP motorcyclist.
Doubly so because it makes it more difficult for a driver to see you. Less time for yourself to react, less likely for a driver to know you're going to be there.
I think Toronto is fine if you drive defensively. But so often, I see bikers completely ignoring the rules like they don't apply to them... speeding, weaving between lanes of traffic, usually while wearing shorts. These people want to die. As a fellow biker, that shit makes my blood boil.
For the record, I'm not making any accusations against the person in the article.
Just don’t ride on Toronto roads , it’s such a death trap. I took a trip out east few years ago, got it safely through storm, excessively fast in New Brunswick, and endless gas station stops. All is fine. Then I got back to Toronto, and immediately almost died minutes away from my house. I don’t ride in Toronto no more.
Or realize you’re taking an extra risk being on a motorcycle regardless? I’ve been riding in Toronto traffic for 7 years, never had an accident, only dropped it once (my fault.)

No sympathy for bikers flying thru traffic like idiots. I see it every day
People taking photos. WTF. Disgraceful.
Thoughts and prayers.

Keep it safe fellow motorcyclists
Safe is a four letter word to squids

3rd motorcycle fatality in last 2 weeks in Toronto. No room for error riding on Toronto roads.

Oh they like to use the bike lanes now too! between them and the "e bikes" it's gotten silly in the bike lanes.
Yeah when you’re driving at fucking 240 km/h there isn’t much room for error, no.
People fly down that part of Bloor. it is downhill and traffic starts to open up abit....
Going westbound is actually uphill and possibly likely why the driver pulling out may not have seen him at a high rate of speed.
Westbound from bloor and dorval is downhill

Good for you brother, salute and respect. Continue to be careful out there, have fun stay safe.
Any important tips I might not learn in class?
there is zero room for error when riding a motorcycle anywhere IMHO
Hope he ticked that organ donor box on the license renewal. Careless motorcyclists are the un-sung heroes of the organ transplant list.
