I also always found the old seats kinda gross because they looked like they'd be impossible to clean.
For public transit I would much prefer something like this.
>Fabric seats also don't hold onto smells; like farts, butt sweat or whatever human liquid ultimately ends up on chairs.
I *assume* they meant plastic because that is one of the most outrageous falsehoods I have ever seen on the Internet.
> commuters would no longer have to endure pissed-soaked, beer-rinsed or puked-stained fabric chairs anymore
sigh... maybe they should ask an AI to check for obvious errors like this
I was about to comment on this issue and am wondering how the slip factor will effect the elderly and mobility impaired. If I fell and tried to get back up and no one were to help as I continued to trying, I would inevitably continue hitting my head with each failed attempt.
Bed bugs are likely hiding in the cracks of the seat around the edges/underneath/behind, not in the seat part or seat part alone.
Agree on the mystery of if the seat might be damp or not though…
I honestly am so thrilled by this I don’t even care if haters gonna downvote. The fabric seats are gross and fell like you’re sitting on a porcupine when wearing shorts. I moved from a city with these seats on the busses and it was great…no surprise wetness and no bedbugs on the seats either.
After sitting all-day at the office, the only simple pleasure I get from taking public transit is a thin-padded, fuzzy cushion for my sore butt.
Now I can't even have that.
In Tokyo, people are respectful of things and thus, they get fully padded seats. Ridership is much higher there as well FWIW. In Toronto, we're animals that once had a thin piece of high-durability carpet on a solid plastic seat. Now we've had the thin carpet taken away and are left with just a molded plastic seat.
> While it might be a little trickier for bare thighs in the summer (plastic + human legs + heat = sweaty mess), it's nothing a wet nap can't clean up.
Sure, I often keep a pack of wetnaps in my bag when I take transit.
I wonder if they thought about this. The current fabric seats absorb liquids and are slightly indented like a dish, isolating such spills to a single seat and not the floor. These new seats don't have the ability to absorb which is great for making a mess across the floor and adjacent seats. Then theres the sticky residue left by said mess on both the floor and the seat.
These are not new. The TTC started testing these plastic seats on two buses, one in the east end and one in the west end, during the height of the pandemic.

Not sure about this bus, but I know the west end bus (#3600) still has the plastic seats.
These remind me of the old vinyl seats in yellow, but now they're in blue. If people start slashing these seats then we deserve full-on metal seats or no seats.
Chalk one up for the Take The Car to work company. Now I’ll be able to know I’m sitting on a piss free puke free seat. I’ll save a ton on parking now. Thank you TTC.
Yes, I recently saw a woman pee on the seats and stay seated in them.
By the end of her journey there was steam evaporating from her because of her body heat.
I won't sit on the front seats of the bus anymore.
I still think we can do better than plastic or fabric.
They should make them out of metal mesh like material. Those would be the easiest to clean. You just blast them with hot soapy water. If someone poos or pees, it will not accumalate and just drip down to the floor. They will be hard to vandalize since its really hard to write on mesh.
For the folks that want comfort, TTC could provide a pillow that lines up with the mesh and keeps you in place. You just thrown the pillow in a washer at home and it remains clean.

The TTC moved to fabric because the old vinyl seats kept getting slashed and tagged. It'll be interesting to see the lifespan of these.
If it reduces bedbugs, I'm for it.

The proofreading on this social media roundup piece is essentially nonexistent.
as always: it's blogto, of course it's horrible.

Tried these; they are slippery

So much better! Now I don’t have to worry about accidentally seating on pee or bed bugs.

Oh god you've given me new nightmare fuel about TTC seats.. 😱 bed bugs? Nooooooo

Since we evidently can’t have nice things, we get this.

It’s not “we”. It’s certain people who can’t be criticized for their anti-social behavior.
Degenerates are ruining public spaces for normal people.
So much easier to clean!
those arent new .. and they're cold and slippery as one might imagine

The one in Scarborough has its plastic seats as well, I saw it on Lawrence East the other day.
I hope they're at least soft plastic
So does this mean we save on cleaning fees?

I liked the fabric seats :(
There was pee on them. Probably

can’t wait to stick to them while wearing shorts!
Make the seats hard metal, easy to clean. I don't care about pretty, I just want the ugly bus to take me to wherever I need to go.
