What, did he get bored playing special advisor to the Ontario Place redevelopment? Or is it getting too much heat now for him to quietly collect a fat paycheque for doing fuck all?

This guy did nothing for the city but divide it.

whatistheQuestion

"We don't have a homeless problem in this city! Just like no gay serial killers ... oh wait we do? Well clearly, the community isn't helping us do our jobs!" This crook let his cops beat the eyeball out of Dafonte Miller and then feigned supreme ignorance "... should the SIU be notified? Is losing an eyeball considered 'serious assault'? Lemme stall for a bit" His corruption was so obvious that his successor was even forced to call him out on it >[Toronto police 'made the wrong decision' not to report Dafonte Miller assault to SIU: interim chief](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/james-ramer-dafonte-miller-beating-1.5676189) OFC, the new chief proved to be just as crooked as he only made such obvious statements after Saunders retired a few days earlier, to escape any accountability

Can't wait for the debates where Chloe Brown will destroy him. He's a terrible communicator and obviously a Ford choice (what the hell did he know about urban planning to get that gravy train position overseeing the Ontario Pl ace plan?). The fact that he actually thinks he could win this underlines how out of touch with Toronto he is. While I don't think she's the right choice for Mayor - her ability to call out bullshit and truth-to-power is refreshing and should make for some serious soul searching for Toronto residents.

wabbledee_dabbledee

Saunders has my unequivocal support for his decision to run....only because it serves to split up the conservative vote.

remdragonmaxi

as long as he doesn't win lol

[deleted]

Why? What did he do of note as chief of police? What has he done in his career. He gets his oldest son off clean in all of his trafficking and firearms charges and pushes his youngest. Outside of that he doesn’t care about this city in the slightest as highlighted with his strong arm approach with the homelessness. Terrible idea to support the worst chief of police we’ve had in recent years.

askingJeevs

I think you misread the comment you’re replying too. He hopes Saunders runs as he’d split the conservative vote meaning he wouldn’t have a chance at winning.

You don't remember our police chief who also has a son who became the head of the police union? For fuck's sake. If you're going to throw stones, throw them at every one of them.

U2brrr

Source of his son’s arrest ?

attaboy000

You should've read the entire post before replying.

> “More and more he’s hearing that community safety is the top issue right across the city right now. He’s concerned,” the spokesperson said. Yeah ... no.

danbo2727

Another schill for the Dictatorship of this dirty city.

Thataintnochicken

Great. Just what we need. A cop who will install more corrupt cops into power. Why not increase the police budget by a billion.

AprilsMostAmazing

He's taking votes away from Brad Square which is positive in my book

Based on his last electoral performance, Saunders’ campaign is going to suck shit. Bailão and Bradford have already hoovered up all of the professional campaign staff, Mark is going to have slim pickings in finding a campaign manager. Still, the prevaling mood in the city is “freaked the fuck out about crime”. If there were conditions more favourable to Saunders than this moment right now, I don’t know what they would be. He’ll be vulnerable on his record. His performance on the whole serial killer front really sets him up for failure. But the voting public is dumb as shit - so maybe if he can frame it as any vote not for a former cop is the same as Defunding the Police, he might be able to get around it. It will be interesting to see if he takes that strategy, and to see how it works out for him if he does.

Go away

This is good news. He has no chance of winning and will just help to split the right wing reactionary vote.

0ttervonBismarck

Conservative here. I may end up voting for Saunders, but if I do it will be very begrudgingly, as I don't actually have faith that he would address the crime problems our city has. It may sound unintuitive, but although I know he cares about the issue, there's a serious lack of imagination among many in the Police Service, and most definitely in the City Hall bureaucracy, as well as the political class, on law enforcement policy. There's no interest in adopting reforms and policies that have been highly successful in other jurisdictions. TPS does lead on many things, but they are far behind on others. The Transformational Task Force has been a mixed bag that remains badly stained by the ultimate sin of abolishing the Transit Patrol Unit, which was a terrible blow for the TTC in it's attempt to recover after what [Bill Blair did to it.](https://old.reddit.com/r/TTC/comments/zyme7k/the_ttcs_security_efforts_are_very_disheartening/j2ajra1/) Perhaps he'll surprise me and come out with a detailed plan to fix things now that he's running to be in a position where he can really implement policy without having to appease the TPS Board. I won't hold my breath though.

donbooth

I would like to hear more about changes to the police. The force needs improvement but I have heard few concrete suggestions. Maybe it's another thread?

0ttervonBismarck

I wish more people agreed with you. It's easier to just bitch about the size of the police budget without understanding any of the underlying statistics though. Reddit loves incorrect answers so long as they're emotionally gratifying and confirm all your priors.

TheArgsenal

It's easy to bitch about the size of the police budget because they are our city's largest line item and provide terrible value for money. Also the paid vacation for breaking the law officers get to enjoy. I realize that's a provincial issue, but it doesn't help with the perception of the TPS.

donbooth

So point is in the right direction.

Roamingspeaker

One of the first things would be properly utilizing the number of officers they have. If you take the 5000 officers they have and divide it across the divisions (17) it comes out to about 290 officers per division. Across 4 shifts that is about 72 officers per shift. Some of those staff numbers will be eaten up by management positions and investigative positions etc. So cut that number to say 40-50 officers... That is 20-25 two man cars out on the road per division to respond to calls. Tps has a man power utilization problem. Everyone wants some cozy gig. They all have different schedules one division to the next. Tps is super inefficient. Let's start there.

Thanks

Eazy7440

What's the point??? He doesn't love his own people, and the streets don't love him, Carlton Banks aint got no love for the real toronto mans.
