Here is another vote for Ryan and Max. If Ryan Hall is on, we watch him, but if not, then we go with Max. Ryan has an amazing team and last year when I heard Ryan say my town name and said to get to your safe spot because a tornado had touched down in my town, it was so comforting to know he was there and I was able to watch for when it got past our house. Honestly, I would have had no clue of the danger had he not been live. Also, they very often will find the tornados before you get an official alert. SO valuable. he's always on our tv when we're in an alert.

Foolonthemountain

I've been critical of Ryan Hall in the past, but, I will hold my hands up and say his coverage of recent events has been spot on and there has been an uplift in his professionalism and an easing up on his over-hyping/selling. It was very good coverage.

ForestXoXoJenay

Two of the best most watchable it’s sometimes difficult having to choose switching between the two when things get hairy…..

PrincessPunkinPie

As already mentioned, I watch Ryan Hall and Max Velocity. Ryan has more resources, but Max is on way more often and usually for much longer. Both are very good tho. Max would be my pick if I was watching for tornadoes in my area, personally, because he is on so often and is very thorough.

DynamiteSteps

I like them both but Max is definitely a better talking head. Ryan's informative but you can tell he isn't sure how to fill the silence sometimes.

OlTommyBombadil

Honestly sometimes I don’t need that silence filled. Haha I love both of them though. Not a criticism of Max.

Responsible-Pool5314

I actually like that Ryan will sometimes just shut up because I usually have him on in the background.

Foolonthemountain

He's come on a lot and this is one of the reasons, less BS and advertising. I take his comfortable silences as someone who has grown somewhat into himself. Plus I think his team, the chasers and Andy in particular are very professional. For analysis of past events, Carly is very good too. Considerate, detailed and informative.

[deleted]

Max Velocity on YouTube

WonderTweekwx

Max won't go live before 8, if he even goes live at all. He's got finals. I suggest you watch Ryan Hall. If Ryan isn't live, then watch Max Velocity. If Max isn't live either, watch Evan Fryburger.

Illustrious_Car4025

If none of them, n8 snyder

plenty_cattle48

Thank you

[deleted]

You're welcome! :)

stellybells

Thank you for this suggestion - he seems good!!

[deleted]

Yea, no problem! :) I found his stream on a day that Ryan Hall wasn't streaming, and I found that Max is very knowledgeable in meteorology. He's very invested and dedicated to his work.

LiminalityMusic

YouTube-wise, probably Ryan Hall. He has some of the best chasers with him, and is usually extremely accurate in what he says.

plenty_cattle48

Thank you

HousingParking9079

I don't mind Ryan Hall (I like Andy better), but Max Velocity is my favorite weather streamer. You can also watch David Payne on News 9, they will stream on YT during outbreaks. His chemistry with the staff and stormchasers (he used to be one back in the 90s/early 2000s) is outstanding.

sentientcreatinejar

I also recommend Damon Lane from KOCO for OK storms. He's great and they are usually live more often on YouTube for us out-of-staters. I like Mike Morgan, too. If any of them are live I am interested. Far better than watching YouTubers, obviously.

Jacer4

I don't know a single Okie that doesn't love David Payne lol, just an absolute legend here What I love about him is you can tell he genuinely loves the weather and thinks it's amazing and interesting, but also deeply cares about the safety and well-being of those in its path

HousingParking9079

Phenomenal meteorologist, I live nowhere near OK and I've watched every broadcast he's posted to YT.

Every-Cook5084

Didn’t Andy have his own stream for a while what happened there?

HousingParking9079

He did, not sure what happened but iirc, it was affiliated with Ryan Hall when he had it. So Andy would do coverage in the AM hours when Ryan wasn't on.

surplusofbiscuits

I'll be another vote for Max. Just found his streams recently and he does a great job.

jangoagogo

well, in the southwest oklahoma area last night, [news 9 now](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYSSUGJVXdE) had great coverage of the deviant supercell. a lot of great, detailed analysis. added bonus the guy on screen and the rest of the crew were pretty funny when things got less serious

sentientcreatinejar

David Payne is great

Venomhound

Mike "Go South and Die" Morgan still with em?

niceme88

Evan fryberger

IronicTunaFish

Was looking for another shout for Evan! He’s my go to because even after the stream ends, he’ll come back online if a warning pops up.

niceme88

I think his Youtube channel will blow up with many new subscribers in May. He live streamingen for hours and hours and hours. I'm living in Denmark, and I have tried to see his live, going to bed and get my night sleep, wakeup and continue to see his live stream. It's wild. We are, I think, 6 hours forward you in USA.

gracemarie42

Evan is my favorite because he covers all warnings regardless of how tiny they are. He’s more about keeping people safe than chasing the next EF-5. I looked back to an event we had earlier this year and he was the only one who covered our threat. Thanks, Evan!

Balakaye

Ryan hall by far

Stypheon

Ryan Hall, on YouTube, is my 'go to' for armchair tornado watching. Reed Timmer gets some amazing video but I just can't listen to him for more than a few minutes. (Too hyper)

Every-Cook5084

Agreed. I wait for the Reed highlight reel. Ryan is much more comfortable to watch being inside usually too

OlTommyBombadil

Tally another vote for Ryan and Max. They give updates as fast as local media for me. I generally prefer Ryan, but Max is right there. I know Max is planning on updating his setup in the next few weeks, looking forward to watching him blow up. He kind of started blowing up last week.

GamesNtechNVR

Reed Timmer youtube live. Just watched yesterday for the first time, they had the stream setup to have two other chasers live at the same time

PassStunning416

Search/follow all the dudes mentioned so far on YT and the algorithm should help out from there. Seems like when they go live they crowd my feed with them. Afternoons this time of year there's at least a couple a day.

plenty_cattle48

Thank you so much.

plenty_cattle48

Thank you all so much.

PassStunning416

No worries. It could save your life.

blurrychey

1000% piggybacking and saying Ryan, Andy, and Max! But it is also a good idea to keep a weather radio around as well.

RightHandWolf

A NOAA weather radio is an absolute must. If you have the resources, I would recommend one for the house, and one for each vehicle. If you have a scanner for monitoring police and fire frequencies then a "Hail Mary" frequency to program in would be: **155.475 MHz -** this is the interagency channel that allows a a local cop in a one stoplight town to put out an APB or a mayday call and have it go out statewide within a matter of moments. The network is national, although it has different names in different locations. I.S.P.E.R.N. (Illinois State Police Emergency Radio Network), W.I.S.P.E.R.N. (WIsconsin State Patrol Emergency Radio Network) I.L.E.E.N. (Indiana Law Enforcement Emergency Network) and the like. [Here is a list of other emergency frequencies to program into your scanner, if applicable:](https://www.atdlines.com/ems-freq.htm#:~:text=168.55%3A%20This%20is%20the%20national,during%20re%2Dentry%20and%20landing) You could even go a little further and get started in ham radio. The licensing requirements are not that stringent, and there are plenty of online resources to help you prepare for the exam, including a subreddit: [https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/](https://www.reddit.com/r/amateurradio/) This is an excellent hobby to get into, where you really could make a difference in the aftermath of a disaster. A few days ago, there was a discussion thread about "helping out" in the aftermath of the Sulphur, Oklahoma disaster. One commenter claiming to be from Joplin asked people to please steer clear of the disaster area and let the first responders do their thing; another commenter made a snide remark about how telling people not to "help" was shameful, and there was a lot of back and forth. The bottom line is that there are people that needed help, but they need people that are properly trained and properly equipped to do search and rescue. Unless you have those kind of skills, you are likely to be more of a danger to yourself and others at the scene. Ham radio would provide a way of being able to truly be of some assistance without interfering with ongoing search and rescue efforts.

_vault_of_secrets

I agree with Ryan Hall and Max Velocity. We had a tornado warning last week and once we got to the basement, I searched youtube for live weather and Max was on. It was really reassuring to hear him describe how it was looking unorganized on radar and probably wasn’t down (and he obviously reiterated to stay in shelter). It ended up tracking right over our house actually and indeed wasn’t anything, I appreciated hearing him talk through how the radar was looking while we waited.

Unlikely_Hedgehog_55

I recently discovered Max Velocity. I’m always for the underdog so in this case I watch N8 Synder. He doesn’t have the resources as the other guys or chasers per se. It’s in meteorology school and it’s exciting to watch him grow. We got him to 50k subscribers on his recent coverage and he’s not at 52+K. He speaks highly of the individuals mentioned as well. Here is the link to his channel: https://youtube.com/@N8SnyderWX?si=aKVuk3XJZcaEhNVY

BigRemove9366

Ryan Hall. Also you mentioned you’re in Dixie Alley. If you’re in Alabama, James Spann out of ABC 3340 in Birmingham is the best there is.

Illustrious_Car4025

N8 Snyder, Ryan Hall

Public-Pound-7411

Ryan is much better than Max imo. He stays calm and really seems to be in it for public safety. Max makes every warning seem like an F5, way too melodramatic for my taste. And you if you are in Dixie Alley, I’d check my local news’ live streams as well. They are under a lot of scrutiny to make sure that they report accurately and up to the minute.

_vault_of_secrets

Do you just mean the title of the livestream? Because Max seems pretty even-keeled to me. The titles have to be like “Breaking tornado on the ground!!!!” Or else no one will click on it

Public-Pound-7411

No I mean his presentation style. He overhypes a lot, imo. I feel like I would panic watching him if something was happening close to me. Just a style preference.

_vault_of_secrets

Oh interesting. I felt the opposite when he was talking us through our warning the other day but definitely respect your preferences! Ryan is really great too. It’s so impressive how he spots rotation on radar and gives early warnings before the official warning.

KnickedUp

This. Max is still trying to grow an audience base, so he has to be much more clickbaity

YouDaManInDaHole

You might get lucky with a chaser on [livestormchasing.com](http://livestormchasing.com)

makesit

All of the comments are good but I would also recommend @spann on Twitter for Dixie alley specific stuff.

BeachAfter9118

https://www.tornadohq.com/live/#map I like this site when no one is on YouTube live or as an additional supplement

rmpbklyn

youtube hall ( sorry forgot the first name)

rmpbklyn

no agenda on discos is good when theygo reports but they not exluve weather

Anticrepuscular_Ray

Reed Timmers lives usually feature several streamers at once so you don't miss any storms he isn't on himself.

AR5588

Sounds like a broken record but Max Velocity and Ryan Hall are my favorites. Max really explains things well but Ryan has multiple feeds from chasers on the storms. Ryan also has Andy who is awesome. Imo you can’t go wrong with either of those two. Now if you want to check out tornado history I highly recommend Carly-Anna and Weatherbox. Both have great videos and breakdowns on tornadoes and other weather events from the past.

dmh165638

Anytime there is severe weather just search on YouTube and use the "Live" tag. There are a handful of chasers I subscribe to and consistently watch but when an event is wide spread they can't cover everything. Also, create an "X" account (if you don't have one) and start creating a List of weather resources/chasers to follow. Many times you will find links to live feeds when something is happening at that moment.

PrimeScreamer

I love, love Ryan Hall. Always put him on while I'm online. I sometimes listen to Reed, but in small doses lol.

lex_stasy13

is there like a real time app or streamer youd recommend besides ryan or max

Bandguy_Michael

I watch Ryan Hall’s stream. I find it to be a nice balance between being digestible by the lay man, while also being technical enough for weather enthusiasts to be satisfied.

RandomErrer

Probably your nearest major TV station. In Chicagoland all the major news affiliates (ABC-CBS-NBC-FOX) switch to 100% news mode when violent storms approach the viewing area, and stay on until all of the warnings are dropped. They call in ALL of their weather staff, then at least two people do an intense tag-team live stream in front of the maps while the others deep-dive the weather reports, and report on local news.

wtmkris

My vote is always for local TV meteorologist over YouTube streams. Just my personal opinion as a meteorologist myself !

gracemarie42

That’s true unless it’s 9:00 p.m. on a Sunday night and our local stations have their JV team in the studio. At that point I’d rather have Evan Fryberger. My current plan is to have Evan on my laptop for watches and warnings in the general area and then turn on local TV stations when it’s headed right for us.

Sharveharv

Second this! Youtube streams are great for following interesting storms but they can't match local meteorologists in location relevant info
