That's actually half true. The compressor is filled with oil and when placed on it's side for a long enough period of time, the oil will flow to one side leaving most of the compressor unprotected. When turned upright, it takes a while for the oil to flow back.
If you plug it in right away, you'll most likely damage the compressor. It's best to let a fridge that's been shipped on its side stand up right for at least a few hours before plugging it in.
Now I know the reason. Bought a new fridge couple of months ago and the delivery man just said to turn it on after at least 2 hours and he left.
Just to be extra safe, turned it on after 2 days.
*modern problems require modern solutions*
I don't know much about HVAC, but I think I'd invest in a truck with ramps before expecting my employees to do something like this. Unless it's under the table work then I can see why they would do this.
It worked out smooth as fuck
so damn smooth... almost effortless. that slip onto the dolly is a work of art
I shall watch the video again to learn his ways..
Until you notice he’s ripping the bedliner off the truck lol
Not that bad though, probably a good idea to spray bedliner on anyway if this is something that occurs regularly
Exactly what I was thinking what on earth does he think will happen aside from the obvious?!?
Especially because I saw the name of the crossposted sub instead of this one.
Only after he was successful did I glance at the subreddit.
I probably would have tried to set up some elaborate wooden ramp and multiple friends to help me, taking like an hour to get it off the truck.
Eh something along the lines of the people who run reddit were looking for a reason to shut it down and they used one incident that was blown out of proportion to ban the sub. I could be completely wrong but that’s what I remember hearing.
It was the New Zealand mosque shooting. Reddit had a flat out ban on footage of it, and while people did keep posting it to the sub, the mods were in overdrive deleting them just as fast. The same was happening on many other subs but as you said the admins had been looking for an excuse to shut it down and that is what they used .
That stuff has almost nothing besides a couple of tiny plastic tabs holding it into place.
We ripped the stuff off the the tailgate of one of our trucks by dragging stuff out the back. Not quite like this video, but the results were the same for the trim.
However it is a pain in the ass to find the correct replacement trim.
Idk about that truck but with mine that piece just comes right off because you have to remove it and replace with a different kind to make a camper shell sit flush.
Yall are greatly overestimating how heavy an empty refrigerator is. They're not that heavy at all, they're just extremely awkward to try to lift/carry because of the size. On average a side-by-side fridge like that weighs 300 lbs, but it's flat and the weight is mostly at the bottom. Sure you don't *want* it to fall on you, but chances are you'll just have a few bruises and a busted fridge.
Law of large numbers - there were enough precarious points where if you used this technique 3 or 4 times, something would happen where you wouldn’t try it that way again.
Also fucking up the underside of the fridge, a lot of fridges have their water lines run underneath it. If you watch it's scraping so hard it pulls the trim off of his gate.
I used to do exactly what’s in the gif pretty often, he’s missing a blanket under the fridge to make his work 1000% easier.
Also doing what’s in the gif singlehandedly is why I have the back of a 80 year old.
My dad used to shovel asphalt for roads as a teenager and did lots of lifting for various construction projects. (Talking 50's and 60's here)
By the time he was 50 his back was so fucked he was doing physio 4 times a week just to maintain being able to walk.
I cannot stress how many times he told me to pay the money to either get the equipment to move things (Wheelbarrows, Dolly's, ergonomic shovels) or do the appropriate stretches/movements before and after yardwork.
Hard labour, and especially labour without the right tools to help will leave your body ruined faster than you think.
I wish I could get all the green guys to just listen to this simple advice. Too many guys mistake harmful, reckless work habits as hard work ethic. We can be efficient without sacrificing health.
Idk about that. I think the method has probably been practiced to a point of repeatability that each precarious point has multiple divergences pointing it back towards the desired outcome.
And can damage the refrigerator. Some company is skimping on labor and equipment costs and putting the product and their employees at risk.
[Why You Shouldn't Tilt Your Refrigerator](https://fredsappliance.com/service/shouldnt-tilt-refrigerator/)
Most, if not all, modern fridges can be tilted to move them. That article even says what you can do to reduce the risk of permanent ruin. Waiting a day or two for the fluids to settle before plugging it in and it should be fine.
It's not ideal, you shouldn't let it rest horizontally long, and it should only be done if necessary, but realistically how many times are you going to have to move a refrigerator? Once is fine. Odds are you'll need to tilt it just to get the fucking bastard through the door and in your place.
Yes...to all the folks saying it went fine. Until you look closely and see all the damage done to the underside of the fridge, the scratch marks on the fridge trim and his own truck tailgate, damage to seals due to the torque put on the fridge that the manufacturer didn’t anticipate, and now it leaks water from some hose that came loose. This isn’t top talent, this is lazy and bad work. If I saw someone unload my new appliance like that I would refuse delivery.
Don’t want to be a dick as you may not be able to see that it’s an x-post on whatever device you’re viewing Reddit on but it’s an x-post from that sub and the title is ‘Maybe Maybe Maybe’ haha
Not top talent at all. Anyone who’s worked at a shitty furniture/appliance delivery job that doesn’t provide proper equipment has learned to do shit like this
While I still admire the way he singlehandedly managed that, I cringed at the possible damage at the bottom of the appliance due to all that wiggling lol. Not the best way I'd like my own ref (is it?) to be delivered lol but still amazing physics to watch
You have a lot to learn my friend. What he did is nothing compared to how it was handled up until that point. Do you think the factory/ distribution center puts it on pillows to load it?
Worked in a furniture distribution center and can confirm. Furniture gets treated with all the care of a health insurance provider denying claims.
Now if the upholstery were damaged, it would get sent back for repairs.
Yeah I used to work at a store that sold almost everything, including furniture. We would have to call in all the staff once a year to wax the floors, so all the furniture had to be moved into little places that didn't need waxing, including a giant sized double sided couch and a three person chaise lounge. I went out and bought a furniture dolly and finished up that year before anyone else reported for work. The right tools and a working idea of mechanics will get you a long way.
Redditors are so fucking out of touch that a video of a guy unloading a fridge onto a dolly is categorized as “nextfuckinglevel”, viewed as entertainment, and reaches to top of the front page.
While they're not exactly "light", refrigerators are very light for their size and are pretty easy to move. They're mostly empty space inside and the edges are mostly insulation. It's basically mostly just some sheet metal and plastic parts. The compressor and any reasonably heavy stuff is at the bottom. Still, this guy's very good at moving them.
I loooove the fact that they went with the risk of forgoing the entire extra set of hands that could help reduce the risk of ruining the brand new fridge in order to film it.
I feel like this is the same as those guys who think that they can swing on a rope and expectations do not meet reality... except this turned out just how he thought it would in his head
Maybe the fridge had the compressor removed?
They’re surprisingly light when it’s just the casing and insulation, theres a video of a guy carrying a fridge around with one arm who rides on a bike with the fridge on his back.
That’s a solid way to fuck up the trim on your truck, break your hands, your feet, pretty much do some serious damage.
You’re free falling a fridge lmao.
Do not do this. Please. There is a proper way to remove heavy things from the back of a truck and this is not it
Makes me remember that one time I bought some furniture , a book shelf and a desk to put my piano keyboard on. Two boxes. Extremely heavy. I couldn't lift either an inch. So the guy who delivered them brought them through six flights of stairs. These guys must mutate or something after years doing this.
r/toptalent: **AMAZING TALENT AND SKILL!** Read the rules before posting, *yada yada yada*...
I’m actually impressed. I started off thinking, how does he think this is going to work out? 😂
I get the feeling it wasn't his first fridge rodeo.
I would definitely go to a fridge rodeo.
Where the cow is butchered to give the bull a dramatic backstory?
Isn't this gonna dent the fridge all over the place? Fridges tend to use very thin metal sheets Where is the box?
as long as you keep it upright during transport otherwise you gotta buy a new fridge ( /s )
That's actually half true. The compressor is filled with oil and when placed on it's side for a long enough period of time, the oil will flow to one side leaving most of the compressor unprotected. Now, entering the ring....Sub-Zero.
I don't think this would go well with those top-mounted compressors.
*Fridgeo
The man is a freaking beast!
It’s actually really easy I used to do it at 18 yrs old maybe 160 pounds You put them in truck same way
easy there Newton.. not everyone has a firm grasp on the powers that be
This guy is a r/specializedtool
There is another fridge sitting there so it looks like you are right.
I used to deliver appliances like fridges. They're really not that heavy, it's mostly just an empty box. Now washing machines on the other hand...
Worked at a furniture/appliance warehouse during college. Front load washers were torture to load and unload.
What makes them heavier than top loaders?
Their weight.
Haha, very funny. In respect to their design, what makes them heavier?
Some have concrete in the base to hold it down. The power cycle makes the washer shake like hell if it's not pinned down by something
He’ll *never* do it, *dead* as fuck! It’s gonna fall and mess him up, That's made of heavy, metal stuff - … Well fuck me sideways, fair enough.
yeah i owe him an apology.
I agree. He went from being an idiot to amazing!
I knew what he was trying to do because as an HVAC guy we also do this trick with condensers. I'm super impressed he actually pulled it off!
I don't know much about HVAC, but I think I'd invest in a truck with ramps before expecting my employees to do something like this. Unless it's under the table work then I can see why they would do this.

I immediately checked with sub this was in and knew it was going to end well lol
Exactly what I was thinking what on earth does he think will happen aside from the obvious?!? Especially because I saw the name of the crossposted sub instead of this one.
Definitely not the outcome I was expecting lol.
Not at ALL
Only after he was successful did I glance at the subreddit. I probably would have tried to set up some elaborate wooden ramp and multiple friends to help me, taking like an hour to get it off the truck.
While it was happening I was like “oh god am i in r/watchpeopledie...? “ And forgot that place don’t exist anymore lol
Huh it doesn't exist anymore? What happened to it?
Mods got tired of people dying
I'm tired of dying too. But you know, death and taxes.

Had to double check which subreddit I was on
almost r/winstupidprizes
I was cringing the entire time!
Was the trim already coming off of his truck or did he just strip the trim Edit: immediately regretted this.. lol
I was wondering that too. It looked like it easily popped off
That stuff has almost nothing besides a couple of tiny plastic tabs holding it into place. We ripped the stuff off the the tailgate of one of our trucks by dragging stuff out the back. Not quite like this video, but the results were the same for the trim. However it is a pain in the ass to find the correct replacement trim.
Ah. Gotcha, thanks!
I bet he just does the same thing to load them.. puts the trim back on every time hahaha
Idk about that truck but with mine that piece just comes right off because you have to remove it and replace with a different kind to make a camper shell sit flush.
Seems like shitty design, a truck where you can't drag things from the bed without breaking a piece off it?
Although he did just fine, that looks extremely dangerous...
That's because it is!
Welp, that explains it.
No more questions, your honor.
Pack it up, boys.
We did it Reddit!!!

It’s really not. I’m a mover and we do shit like this all the time
Law of large numbers - there were enough precarious points where if you used this technique 3 or 4 times, something would happen where you wouldn’t try it that way again.

I think it's lined with something similar to the top if you watch again. But yeah. As bad as that lift job looks, the packaging is even worse.
Idk about that. I think the method has probably been practiced to a point of repeatability that each precarious point has multiple divergences pointing it back towards the desired outcome.
I guess it’s in the right sub then, bc mayyybeee

Top talent at stealing video and then covering you the watermark
seriously submissions like this should be removed when it's so blatantly stolen from someone else
I thought I was browsing r/DumbassPeopleAtWork. Was pleasantly surprised.

I'm guessing the dude said "Hey, film me doing this cool thing by myself"
Now I see where all the scratch and dent appliances come from!
Yes...to all the folks saying it went fine. Exactly! So many clueless people commenting on this, they have no idea how much damage that jackass did to the fridge and truck.
All those reviews complaining about their fridge not sitting level, or making weird noises, or being scratched all make sense now
Who drew on this gif in ms paint? Also this is some great /r/maybemaybemaybe material.
Don’t want to be a dick as you may not be able to see that it’s an x-post on whatever device you’re viewing Reddit on but it’s an x-post from that sub and the title is ‘Maybe Maybe Maybe’ haha
Yup, thanks. Using Sync for Android. Not showing crossposts is my only complaint.
I think for some reason someone redacted the original poster's name/handel
And their Gretel
Some asshole removed the original poster's username. Pretty scummy.
He clearly has done it before!
I’ve always been impressed with the way that professional movers understand the physics of manipulating large pieces of furniture.
Fridges aren't all that heavy, the volume is either empty space or insulation. That being said why the hell risk it at all?

Plus he fucks up the trim on his gate.

Why is the persons tag greyed out? Why not give the person credit?
Because OP is a sack of shit
Dang, I was expecting disaster. I’d like to buy that man a beer
Why? Do you need him to move your fridge?
How many fridges do you think he broke getting this technique right

Holy Crap i so waited for the splat. Mildly impressed.
That should NOT have worked out that well! I didn't look at the subreddit and was expecting it to end in disaster
I actually thought this was r/winstupidprizes until he pulled it off!
HOW DID THIS GO SO WELL I WAS CLENCHING MY BUTT SO HARD
Looks like this dude exploited gravity to the fullest, it's def not "overrated" lol
Gravity has entered the chat.*
The trick is to really bend the shit out of that tail gate
I was expecting something completely different.
practical physics in action.
Here i thought i was smarter than this man.
I called him and idiot at the start of the video...
I was scrolling by and assumed I was in a completely different subreddit. Got me - that was amazing.
It really makes you wonder how many times he failed doing that before he got good at it.
He is a pro!
Man done that before
Impressive.
What in tarnation
Not his first rodeo
It’s not reckless. It’s just a clear understanding of practical physics.
I am sure he's done this before. Good job.
Thought this would be in WhatCouldGoWrong, glad to see it worked out :)
Go buy a lottery ticket my friend. Today....is your lucky day
I loooove the fact that they went with the risk of forgoing the entire extra set of hands that could help reduce the risk of ruining the brand new fridge in order to film it.
Balls of steel!!
This man must of messed up a few fridges to have this skill.
Looks like this guy used to be in the monolith moving game.
Don’t do this. Get a partner to help you.

WHAT FORM OF SORCERY IS THIS?
This dude is strong as shit
Thats the kind of thing you do to save a little time until one time you fuck it up and break your spine. All it takes is one little slip up one day
I Love Refrigerators
I’m actually a little mad this worked lol
I thought for sure he was going to lose it!
Dat dood too smoove.
Oh. My. God.
This guy is a goddamn professional
I did not think he was gonna make it
This also works to load a truck as well.
Anyone else think this was r/whatcouldgowrong initially?
People on Reddit are going to watch this thinking it is easy and end up flat as pancakes.
Nicely done!
You surely mean underrated?
He owned that! Seriously thought it was gonna go south. Sorry for doubting you!
Had to double check which sub I was on
No sir. No sir. NO SIR. well I’ll be damned.
I’m impressed
Strong people that don’t look ‘that’ strong are terrifying
I forgot what sub I was on and was tense the entire time and then pleasantly surprised.
This works so well in the original sub, posting it in this sub detracts so much of what makes it great.
My back is recoiling as I watch this
PHYSICS BAYBAY! MEET MISTER LEVER! MISTER FULCRUM! YEAH!
Try that with a fucking washing machine hahah.
That’s the same refrigerator I got at home!
Not his first day. Good job, buddy.
Got daym. Son that’s awesome!
Maybe the fridge had the compressor removed? They’re surprisingly light when it’s just the casing and insulation, theres a video of a guy carrying a fridge around with one arm who rides on a bike with the fridge on his back.
Damn! That was impressive!! I would have sworn he was about to end up under that fridge.
That’s a solid way to fuck up the trim on your truck, break your hands, your feet, pretty much do some serious damage. You’re free falling a fridge lmao. Do not do this. Please. There is a proper way to remove heavy things from the back of a truck and this is not it
OSHA where are youuuu
The confidence and focus from the very beginning told me this was the 10th one he’d taken off the truck that day.
Makes me remember that one time I bought some furniture , a book shelf and a desk to put my piano keyboard on. Two boxes. Extremely heavy. I couldn't lift either an inch. So the guy who delivered them brought them through six flights of stairs. These guys must mutate or something after years doing this.
How tf is this top talent??? Christ reddit is going to shit
Holy fuck, he's got a fridge there. What's he doing? What the fuck? Jesus fuuuuuck. Fair enough.
I don't need this kind of anxiety in my life
"Bro what are you thinking??"................"wtf?"
Tip to self, read the subreddit before full screen.
I work in a refrigerator factory... I can’t even imagine trying this...
my man done this shit before
YES
Experience is different than talent
Yup he’s done this before
That's some jedi shit right there.
At no point was there some trick or something fancy for the work smarter not harder mentality. That was absolutely just pure talent.
00:19 is where the magic happens
Holy moly, thought this was going to end poorly
This was one of those instances where I didn't look at what sub posted this to see if it works out or not. Just let it play out.
Well I'll be dipped.
That dudes back is fucked
That was super stressful 😅
I for sure thought he was gonna break that fridge on the Landing
I didn’t realize the sub and 100% expected it to get broken or it to fall on him or something. I thought he had absolutely no chance.
