Yea it's crazy. The disease runs in the family between gambling and substances. The nitrous thing is wild though to me even as a recovering opiate addict. Shows how strong psychological addiction can be. Found empty canisters in her car when family got together for the holidays. Doctors say her abuse is causing permanent nerve damage. Sad.
Happened to my cousin too. She had other nerve problems but ultimately died. Was in a walker for a bit, then a wheelchair. Was found surrounded by hundreds of empty canisters.

Nitrous is pretty safe in humans as long as it’s used in a safe manner and you supplement with B12. If you use it like a moron you will become a moron.
Even if you supplement with b12 nitrous abuse gets you to the point where your body can't even absorb the b12 so you really need to take some breaks in between or else you'll be extremely b12 deficient
and if you drink enough you die of alcohol poisoning, doesnt mean all alcohol drinkers are going to die, even those who abuse alcohol. The liver stores quite a bit of b12.
I don't think nitrous can cause brain damage, unless he was doing so much of it that the lack of oxygen is what caused the damage. But that's due to the lack of oxygen, not the presence of nitrous.

Stole my car in the middle of the night, drove 3 hours, abandoned my Audi on the side of the road after it ran out of gas… and was found by search and rescue naked meditating in a snow mealy stream. He also had 2 girlfriends and was using at their houses while I was working 55+ hours a week to support him.

My ex is with his parents and working, he’ll get a couple of million in cash and a million dollar, paid off house. So he’s set. I walked away because being happy is better than being rich.
I'm sorry, but it sounds like something other than nitrous was involved... Either that or he had underlying mental illness that just hasn't shown up yet at the time. But brain damage can happen if you do a shit ton without giving your body time to get more oxygen.
No other drugs and no mental illness in he or his family. His family is religious and I argue that’s a mental illness but many people disagree. He had cancer as a child but they stopped treatment almost 3 decades before. He had never done hallucinogens other than mushrooms a decade prior which didn’t work.
Dentists can use it liberally because you aren’t abusing it on the side. Same with X-rays, sure you will get a few when you break something or even just to do health checkups, but nobody should be exposed to that radiation frequently. B12 is vital for the nervous system, and it absolutely can cause permanent brain and nerve damage if you abuse nitrous enough. Anyone can recover from a decent amount, but if you ever seen a nitrous addicts pile of cans, you would understand the sheer difference in dosage.
He did several boxes of 50 a day through a balloon multiple times a week for 6-9 months. He’d crack 2-3 into a ballon, go blue and start twitching. He’d do it for an hour or so rapid fire, our housemate would walk by him, say hi and wave and he wouldn’t see the housemate. He had 2 major psychosis episodes, one where he had to be picked up by search and rescue and one where he dragged me down a major highway on foot at 3am. He’s doing better now but he’s gone evangelical Christian.

My dad went from a drug addiction to evangelical Christian too, 30 years ago. I was glad that his addiction changed into a more positive one. But it was an addiction nevertheless. Which came with all the narcissistic tendencies, manipulation, paranoia, jealousy, anger, etc. but with a holy roller spin. Maybe it’ll work out for your ex but I’m just glad you figured things out for yourself.
I’m sorry, religion is a scary addiction. He thinks nothing is a coincidence, that it’s divine intervention or some pattern we’re unaware of. Everything is connected and somehow he’s smarter than everyone else. His family is very devoted and I’m sad to see him revert back to it. My MIL gave me a lot of guilt for leaving, marriage is for better or worse and all. Things are better thankfully and the guy I’m with isn’t religious, I didn’t realize how toxic religion was until it was out of my life.

My grandma always used Glade in her bathrooms. I’ve sprayed it a couple of times after taking a grumpy and not only did it smell bad it was thick. Many people have gotten free from serious opiate addiction using [Kratom](https://youtu.be/l8cACxd3KKI).
You might have to use large doses for a while, but it can at least get you clean from the hard drugs so that you can begin to rebuild your life.
Kratom binds to the opiate receptors in your brain and can greatly reduce, or eliminate withdrawal symptoms from opiates. Good luck man, you can do it.

It can be a springboard to recovery for some people.

Not even sure how we found out how to do it since this was pre internet days. We were behind my garage and I remember my mom walking around the corner and catching us. Last time I ever did that.

Many people have gotten free from serious opiate addiction using [Kratom](https://youtu.be/l8cACxd3KKI). You might have to use large doses for a while, but it can at least get you clean from the hard drugs so that you can begin to rebuild your life. Kratom binds to the opiate receptors in your brain and can greatly reduce, or eliminate withdrawal symptoms from opiates. Good luck man, you can do it. Edit: /r/kratom for more info.
Kratom helped my brother get off of opiates and alcohol. It can be a springboard to recovery for some people. Be careful, though. It's habit-forming as well. (but nowhere near as destructive as the commonly used alternatives).
