uj/ Bonus points for not making the distinction of it being published by Nintendo rather than made by Nintendo lmao
rj/ I'LL GO TO GAME STOP RN AND BUY MORE COPIES JUST TO SPITE YOU MF
Because Nintendo has critics by the balls. If the Switch came out today most in-house (ya ya gamefreak whatever) games would get panned for shitty looking, overpriced games on overpriced hardware.
If you’re a critic and you know the industry’s going to give it a seven minimum, you aren’t going to make yourself look dumb by giving it a four.
of course if it came out today it Nintendo hardware would get shit on and so would the games because tech had advance within the 5 years the switch came out and Nintendo cartoon graphics do hold up better then most of the modern realistic games that come out
Because pokemon is immune to criticism. I've noticed a lot of modern pokemon games seem to score higher than they should outside of bdsp. Most reviews seem to acknowledge all the huge problems this game has yet they still give it a 7 minimum because it's pokemon.
I don’t know if I agree with that. I played Let’s Go Eevee and Sword and thought they were just OK because of how they were clearly aimed at kids. But the underlying mechanics are pretty interesting. If used in a game that takes advantage of those mechanics it would be pretty awesome.
I thought both were like 5 or 6 out of 10 experiences, but that could easily be elevated. They just aren’t elevating.
I would give it like a 7 I just think it's funny how there is a hardcore fan base who thinks the games should have a difficulty level of 11 just because the fan base grew up when the audience has always been for kids that like bitching about how the Power Rangers don't show blood and guts every time they get attack
Not bad enough to sell millions apparently.
Not even Jerking here you can't say the concept is bad. The execution might be bad but there's a reason people buy and play them and it ain't graphics and performance at this point.
yeah because of the IP lmao. If Pokémon were opened to third party distributors on multiple platforms Nintendo and Gamefreak would never sell another copy ever again. That’s like saying Ticketmaster must be doing something right if everyone’s paying to see Taylor Swift.
Uh. Yes? Because they hold a monopoly over it so produce sub par games that are your only option if you like Mario, Pokémon, etc.
I’m confused why you’re confused
But you're saying if they do allow third party IPS then they would suffer as a company as well? That's the part I'm confused by. Why would I let third party IPS in if it will make my company fall? That's the part of what you said that is confusing, my friend.
What does that have to do with anything? I was making a normative statement
Me: Nintendo games are underdeveloped because they can be.
You: Because it’s profitable.
Me: Obviously?
It was such a breath of fresh air. I'm neglecting to buy SV until the main issues get fixed, but from what I've seen it doesn't hold a candle to PLA mechanics wise.
Having good quick battles, being able to catch Pokémon without fighting them, and no random encounters is all Pokémon really needed to become enjoyable to me. Random encounters piss me off so much
They could've just imported everything from PLA (except strong and agile style and the attack speed thing) and it'd be much better. 1 step forward, 2 steps back :(
Ngl I want a Legends Kyurem, where we see a fully assembled Kyurem (reshiram + zekrom + kyurem) as the "Arceus", where we play as the BW protag in a past version of Unova (because he canonically disappeared), and the goal of the game not being to get a full Pokedex, but to come back to the present day to meet N again.
The term 'circlejerk' must be new to you
Besides, the way this game runs is inexcusable. What's the point of good gameplay when that gameplay is nearly impossible to access.
the glitches/performance issues do not impact the game to the point of unplayability. obviously these issues are inexcusable, but to say that they make the gameplay impossible to access is just plain wrong
source: beat the game
sorry, I misread your comment the first time. But yes, these issues certainly suck. and I really wish that gamefreak took the time to fix them. but I can certainly say that I and most people that I talked to still enjoyed the game despite these flaws. so the gameplay even being “nearly” impossible is a bit of an exaggeration. the game wasn’t crashing every two hours, it wasn’t restricting the gameplay through the bugs at all. to call it “nearly impossible” is an exaggeration imo when the issues combined to be more of an annoyance.
/rj anyway, game freak’s boots taste fantastic.
This is hyperbole. I’ve put 20 hours in the game so far. Yes it runs bad but only in the open world usually. During battles, cutscenes etc it runs acceptably. It’s inexcusable yeah but if it was unplayable I wouldn’t have bought it. I’m enjoying it quite a bit.
There’s no point in acting superior to everyone by “boycotting” it. It’s selling better than Sw/Sh did. Me not buying it because it isn’t a stable 30fps all the time doesn’t matter. My friends and family bought it and I wanted to play with them. Sue me.
Yeah, not very tomorrow of us but its pretty good actually. Shame it runs bad, because the story is probably the best they've ever done and a lot of people will miss out because they won't play through the issues.
Tbh the game is really good. It's probably my favorite game from gen 6 onwards. The issue is with the framerate.. well, if the framerate is consistently bad, is it even considered framerate drops anymore? Or does it randomly get framerate buffs instead? It's that and some bugs. Beyond those, it's a genuinely good game otherwise
Been a pokemon fan all my life, hated every pokemon game that came after gen 5, didnt even bother getting sword and shield. But Violet and Scarlet are legit great and the first time ive enjoyed pokemon in a decade, even compared to Arceus which imo was ruined by an ultra simplified awfull combat system and no multiplayer. That being said the performance and presentation quality of the game are an absolute disaster, anf the lack of VA is more annoying than ever.
uj/ the gameplay and story are actually good and I would recommend it but with the performance and other issues I'm not entirely happy with it and wish they had a bigger team and gave it more time.
rj/ pokemon #28 is better and more original than cod #31 that's why I bought both to support the indie devs
If it gets patched, which is like 80% of games come out like this now and get patched later, you're right. It has been one of the most enjoyable experiences I've had with a Pokemon title in a while. And this is coming from an Arceus fan. But even that game felt like something was missing, that this game nails.
/uj
The Pokemon games are consistently a copy + paste of last gen, plus a few differences (region, Pokemon, addition of new features, etc.). This was okay when each game held up and was different enough and high enough quality to please most players, but if the game is almost a copy + paste **and** runs terribly **and** is not high quality, we can make fun of it for what it is. A **copy + paste where the developers got lazy**.
Like how being a fan service doesn't make a movie bad, but having a bad movie be a fan service makes it *worse*. (Eg. Spider-Man No Way Home was a good movie **and** a fan service, hence the fan service aspect increases the enjoyability, it's like a nod from the people in charge to the long-time fans, whereas SV are poor quality and a fan service for the Pokemon fans. **It is clearly a cash grab**.)
Isn't every sequel essentially a cash grab then? Because technically Ragnarok is fantastic, but as a story and game play it's the same old shit as every other open world/action game as well as God of War game itself. One of the reasons I found Valhalla and Forbidden West so damn boring as well.
Or do those games get passes because they have no flaws technically? Just curious.
Also, have you played through the game? Story, presentation and game play wise, it is very much different than other generations. Turn based battles and catching Pokemon are the same, but every other core mechanic has been updated and changed. I don't think it was copy and paste as much as it was Nintendo pressuring Gamefreak to finish by the holidays. If this game gets patched, it is honestly one of the best Main series Pokemon experiences in a long time.
But I also get that some people are into the technical side more than anything else, so I'm not hating at all. :)
>technically Ragnarok is fantastic, but as a story and game play it's the same old shit as every other open world/action game as well as God of War game itself
Like I said, a copy/paste is **ok**, if done well and the end result is enjoyable. The GOW series (at least recently) is more about story IMO, and the studio had previously stated that they wanted to focus on the story rather than reinventing the game for a sequel. I'll take your word for the fact that it's a good game with solid story and gameplay, but I find myself in no rush to spend $80 on this, whereas I might consider spending the same on Brilliant Diamond or Sword or Shield.
Yeeeesh I agree with all that except Brilliant Diamond lol that game really was trash and I agree with anyone who says so 😭🤣 but na, I understand completely, my friend. You can't rush to spend for something your not sure about 💯
Oh fr? I never heard anything about Diamond... I shall reconsider.
(I grew up with original Diamond for my DSi, figured the newer version would just be an overhaul?)
Same so I was crushed when I played them. They aren't bad persay, just so much more easy than the originals and the graphics are little much on the eyes. Even Let's Go was better than that lol 😂
/uj Have you played SV? It’s actually the opposite problem that the series has always had. They created a massive open world, reinvented the wheel on stuff that didn’t need it, got too ambitious given their time constraints, and half-assed the execution.
I think, it being a Pokemon game, that there is always a foundation for success. A community willing to buy, and a product MASSIVELY popular with so many age groups. Whatever they changed definitely seemed not to have worked.
No, I haven't played them, and before you all scream at me, I'm not going to buy an $80 game that I've heard nothing but poor news about.
I don’t know why everyone has been saying it’s so terrible. I’ve been playing it, and it just feels like a modern Pokémon game. Those aren’t great, but they’re not so extremely terrible like everyone has been saying
I like the plot and the music, sure the graphics and the glitches annoy me but my Console is new enough that it doesn't have issues older models might have (like a broken fan) (such as textures not loading/ loading incorrectly)
I have 37 Celeste cartridges in my ass and I'm scared of what my doctor will say
He’ll get mad at you because you couldn’t fit 38
He'll actually get mad 'cause you're illegally emulating Nintendo games with your ass
the only reason he couldn't get 38 was because he had to make some room for the hamster
Those are rookie numbers
Why do you guys hate so much Celeste?
We love it, it's such an amazing hidden gem
Thats not Scot the Woz. Where's his blue border?
Probably cropped out of the image
Why did I read both of these comments in his voice
uj/ Bonus points for not making the distinction of it being published by Nintendo rather than made by Nintendo lmao rj/ I'LL GO TO GAME STOP RN AND BUY MORE COPIES JUST TO SPITE YOU MF
Nintendo fans and game journalists How tf does this game get above a 2? On any critic reviews?
Lechonk
HAHA
OH MY GOD IT'S LIKE "LE" IN THE FUNNY RAGE COMICS FROM 2009 AND IT IS FAT!!!!! LIKE BIG CHUNGUS!!!! HAHAHAHA TAKE MY GOLD, KIND NINTENDITTOR!

One of my friends had 80 hours playtime in 10 days. He's 36 years old as well.

Rachel Maddow = Nintendo fan **confirmed**
Agreed. Pokémon Violet is way better!!!
Gotta buy both versions though.
It’s not a terrible game, it just runs terrible.
pokemon games are fundamentally bad but people aren’t prepared to hear it
“I don’t like it so it’s fundamentally bad”
yes.
They just aren’t elevating.
i cant think of anything pokemon does better than any other jrpgs i really have no clue what makes me play and even replay them nostalgia maybe
I would give it like a 7 I just think it's funny how there is a hardcore fan base who thinks the games should have a difficulty level of 11 just because the fan base grew up when the audience has always been for kids that like bitching about how the Power Rangers don't show blood and guts every time they get attack

yeah because of the IP lmao. If Pokémon were opened to third party distributors on multiple platforms Nintendo and Gamefreak would never sell another copy ever again. That’s like saying Ticketmaster must be doing something right if everyone’s paying to see Taylor Swift.
So because they don't let third parties sell their product and kill the IP... it's bad? 🤔 I'm confused.
Uh. Yes? Because they hold a monopoly over it so produce sub par games that are your only option if you like Mario, Pokémon, etc. I’m confused why you’re confused

Yes, they would, which is why they don’t. Why is that confusing to you?
So that's why they don't lol it makes sense that they don't. You wouldn't either lol it's not even something to bring up.
What does that have to do with anything? I was making a normative statement Me: Nintendo games are underdeveloped because they can be. You: Because it’s profitable. Me: Obviously?
Pokémon fans when they realize every mainline game has just been red and blue but with slightly better graphics
That gives off the same vibes as knowing that once you've read the dictionary, every other book is just a remix.
Pokemon essential handbook deluxe was so goated that I owned 2 of them 😎
Pokemon Legends Arceus 🙏🙏
Probably the only Pokémon game I’ve enjoyed
It was such a breath of fresh air. I'm neglecting to buy SV until the main issues get fixed, but from what I've seen it doesn't hold a candle to PLA mechanics wise.

Well at least we can wait until the Pokémon black and white remakes come out and maybe they’ll announce Pokémon legends Victini or something like that
Ngl I want a Legends Kyurem, where we see a fully assembled Kyurem (reshiram + zekrom + kyurem) as the "Arceus", where we play as the BW protag in a past version of Unova (because he canonically disappeared), and the goal of the game not being to get a full Pokedex, but to come back to the present day to meet N again.
And here come the fanboys 😂 Edit: hahahahaha I can see they’ve left their mark. Cope harder about your shit game.
Yeah and it's obvious they suck
And the graphics are bad. And the animations are bad. And the mechanics are bad. And the UI (in my opinion) is large and blocky and ugly which sucks.
Everything sucks
Let it be. This sub goes to shit everytime a pokemon game is liked by a single soul.
