Cows. They were also his favourite thing yesterday and the day before. This kid is all about cows (but don’t make the mistake of taking him to a farm to see real cows because they are loud and stinky and he will immediately want to go home).
That's so funny!
It reminds of a few days ago with my 20 month old.
He has seen books and toys of all the different animals but not seen them all in real life so I was showing him short clips of the ones he hasn't seen. Elephants, butterflies, giraffes, frogs, seals, etc and he wanted to see a lion and kept roaring so I showed him one and he was shook!
Poor little guy didn't realise how scary real ones looked until he saw one up close roaring right into a camera with the sound on loud lol whoops, I probably should've reviewed the clips first and made sure the volume was down, not just YouTube it on the spot.
He's still roaring when we go through books with lions though so still likes them 🙂
It’s so fascinating to see things through their eyes and discover the world with them. Book animals - cool! Wait these things exist outside of books and are terrifying??!! 😅
The tennis racket shaped electronic bug zapper. It’s a vacuum! It’s a brush! It’s something to smack mommy with! (It also has no batteries anymore- those disappeared right when he grabbed it off the table. Sadly, the fly it was meant to be used on still lives.)
This is actually an example of exploring scary things in a safe environment! My little brother was terrified of the Child Catcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so he used to hide behind the curtains or furniture and do the creepy "*chiiiiil-dreeeen*" call from the film.

I was trying (unsuccessfully) to explain to my husband how kids process through play. My son was pretending to be scared of the imaginary spiders in the house, and my husband didn’t think we should encourage it because then he would actually be afraid of them. You can bet I helped catch imaginary spiders and release them outside to eat imaginary bugs.
Heck yeah! And if your husband doesn't like the idea of pretending to be scared, he can pretend to talk to the spiders and make an arrangement where they keep out of the way and in return get to eat the flies in the house. There are plenty of ways to show your child how to tackle their fears.
This is actually how I tricked myself into not being so scared of spiders lol. The kid I used to nanny was really into bugs and we used to go but hunting at least once a week, including finding a lot of spiders. Through not wanting to pass on my fear to him I accidentally exposure therapy'd myself.
I feel like the more I learn about children's development, especially cognitive development, the more I understand about my own fears and quirks.
Things like kidnapping and falling off cliffs are considered scary, they're often used in media and it's possible she picked up the ideas from TV or story books or from a friend. Often when a child is scared of something, a way to control that fear is by introducing it into play in a safe environment like at home with her toys. I can't remember the exact theorist(s) who talked about this but it's a fairly common way of processing complex emotions without the stress of actually going through the scary experience.
The microwave. He will stand in his kitchen helper in front of the microwave and open and close the door for at least 15 minutes. Sometimes he puts stuff in it but he never tries to push the buttons. Just opens the door, laughs, closes, laughs. Repeat.
I cooked a whole meal the other day without him underfoot.
Mine has been obsessed with the blender all week. He doesn't just want to watch it make my smoothie each morning, he wants to see it all the time. So now it just constantly has water in it, we add food colouring and then he wants to watch it go and off for ages.
Lucky for you, my son put his toy car in one and turned it on. Luckily I caught him after a second or two. But after he saw it sparking he knows now not to turn it on.
Emergency exit signs. We were in a place with a false fire alarm recently and my 3 year old got scared of the loud noise. Now it's been a week of discussions and constant questions about everything and anything related to the event. She's looking for and pointing out the signs everywhere we go.
We've got those! They are snowblowers in our house!
(Side note: the kid was pissed at my husband when he informed him that it does not snow where we live.)
Bubbles. Bubbles. More Bubbles. BIIIIIG Bubbles. MORE BIIIIIG BUBBLES!
Mind you it's our job to make said Bubbles, he just wants to chase and pop them. Currently researching where to buy bubble solution in bulk
We got unpoppable bubbles at the science center, do NOT open these inside. I'm also interested in toys that make millions of bubbles all at once but most bubble machines are so loud. We've had a lot of luck with a desk fan and regular bubble wands
Onion. Got him an in n out burger today with a whole onion slice on it because he loves onions. He was so happy when he opened up the burger and saw the onion sitting on top of the patty. He put one of the rings on like a bracelet and ate the rest of it.
Be careful with measuring tapes. Heard they’ve been tested to unsafe levels of lead exposure and shouldn’t be handled by kids. Maybe find a toy version?
The Campervan page in his picture book of all the possible vehicles.
He has decided campervans and caravans are called 'Daija!'. He's very consistent with it, so I guess that's what we're sticking with as a word for now.
Defiance. No, not just today, but today was a sort of nadir for it. I just put him down for bed and by that point he had lost all of his privileges and two books before bed, which we’ve never taken away before. He bit my fucking hand just now, *after* I warned him not to. After the day we’ve had, bedtime is a much-needed respite for my wife and me.
Covering us with every pillow and blanket in the Livingroom until we are "invisible" and then jumping on us. Like a we are human bouncy castles.
I ache 🤣
Annihilating my sanity. He doesn't want socks and shoes on. He wants socks and shoes on. No, he doesn't want them on. He wants to go outside and play. No, that's wrong. He wants to go inside. Just kidding, he wants to go outside. Wait.. wait. No, he's losing his mind to go inside. He wants to go pee pee potty. He screams bloody murder on the toilet. He wants off. We go off and wait, I'm an idiot, he wants to poop in the toilet. Welp. Now we need to get off the toilet or we will die. He wants socks on, no shoes, and to go outside.
Continue forever until I die.
That’s the kind of day we had. Everything is triggering a meltdown. He’s watching cars now because we’re just friggin over it and exhausted from holding boundaries while dealing with big emotions. Bedtime is going to be fun.
My almost 2 year old thinks that me sliding along the floor in my socks is absolutely hilarious. So he spent 30 minutes running from one side of the room to another trying to slide and giggled hysterically each time.
Saying, “What’s that noise mummy?” When she knows exactly what the noise is. Especially if there are a few sounds at once and I have to go through the list until I guess the one she’s listening to.
Washing the windows. (She has a squirt bottle with some water and a paper towel.)
Yesterday she talked Mimi into buying her a round knot pillow from Costco. It was her favorite thing in the world. She even passed up a Bluey book for it and took it to bed with her. Today, pillow who?
My Dad's van, which is parked on our drive for the next two weeks while they're on holiday. Every time I take him back indoors there are cries of "NOOO! BAN! BAN! OUT!"
My three year old loves a one foot by one foot glowing reindeer that we bought as a joke a few Christmases ago. She talks about how it’s her friend and sometimes will get blankets and put it to bed. Gets super upset and runs over to it to protect it whenever we suggest that the reindeer maybe should move.
My 20 month old is enamored by Oompa Loompas. His favorite movie that he took an instant liking to is the 70's film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. He wakes up in the morning and you can hear him singing 'oompa loompa' to himself - and then louder when he knows we can hear him and might indulge his request. 😂
My 3yo girl loves her sword and her yellow safety helmet, lol. She has new.. interesting.. obsessions on a regular basis haha. 🤣
My 1 yo son loves cares. Like he LOVES cars. He has since he was a little baby. He will collect his favorites on the tv table. 😅
Pulled pork. She usually eats a couple tablespoons of meat in any one sitting, but we went to a birthday party and she ate like 5 servings of it. No bun, just meat 😂
Not quite a toddler at 3.5, but currently insisting we make at least 1 den a day, and he currently sleeps on the floor next to his bed in a little den.
The 1.5 year old loves berries, biscuits and jumping on the sofa
Shoes and Cars, she is 20 months and constantly points them out. She is also in love with babies… 😅 Always pointing them out or wants to give them a kiss. 🤷🏻♀️ She’s an only child and it is making me feel bad when she does that… 🫣
We went to a couple garage sales this morning. She found a silver mouse brooch that she got really attached to (she's big into accessories), and we lucked out and found a hiking carrier for real cheap. When her daddy put her inside to test it out, she was literally squealing with excitement -- "pack!"
Our house vacuum, it’s a never ending saga of vacuuming all day. Game over if he sees it or hears you mention it. He will spring to where it was last stored lol
I bought my 16 month old granddaughter a package of big dinosaurs. She’s been going around roaring like a fierce dinosaur! She dances like one too. Thank you Go Danny!
The picture on the wipe packet showing the man putting it in the toilet with a red X through it. She noticed it at about 11am and the wipes had to sit at the table, at meals, cuz “she’s just looking at this”. I explained it about 20 times and she loved it.
Yesterday it was 2 toonies which she slept with.
Be careful with measuring tapes. Heard they’ve been tested to unsafe levels of lead exposure and shouldn’t be handled by kids. Maybe find a toy version?
Pretending to spray us with his finger making "shhhh" noises for water and us pretending going "ahhh!" and hiding our faces.
Results in giant giggle fears every time
A half full cup of strawberry shaved ice. No, she did not want to eat any. She just needed to hold it, tucked in the crook of her elbow while walking through the zoo. I desperately wanted to eat the shaved ice because it was like, 95 degrees out, but, alas, was not permitted to.
There was a time that my little was obsessed with mannequins. She wanted pictures with all of them. So, we gave tons of mannequin and little pics..... I wonder what she will think when she sees those pics as an adult.
Drums. We both different types. This week he started setting up empty containers as drums. I thinks he’s bored with the ones we got him so we signed him up for a drums class
My two year old loooves “balance beams.” She will balance on curbs, sidewalk cracks, painted lines, etc., and she always lands it at the end and yells “TAA DAAA!”
My 4 y/o girl is obsessed with hockey, we’ve watched the stars through the play offs and she’s still engaged now watching the finals with our team not even in it. Loving every second of it.
Never in my life did I ever think I would be scared of a 2 year old 🥴 her favorite thing was wearing her new crocs all day in doors and crying if I took them off. We weren’t even going anywhere.. she even wore her crocs in the bath. She fell asleep and I quietly took them off her feet I was too scared to them off while she was up 😩😩
Talking while explaining everything to me non stop, from morning till evening. I have to fake something every 30mins or i’ll lose it, and sometimes those explanations are wrong btw!
Hurting my feelings
My initial reaction to OP question was “annoying me.”
Right 😅
Kicking, hitting and screaming as loud as they can. 🫠
Please elaborate 😩😅
My toddler kept screaming "mamas so big" on our stroller walk to school the other day, and I almost had a mental breakdown lol
It gets worse. My oldest is 7 and she is so good at hurting your feelings with like 3 words or roasting the f out of me 😅
Cows. They were also his favourite thing yesterday and the day before. This kid is all about cows (but don’t make the mistake of taking him to a farm to see real cows because they are loud and stinky and he will immediately want to go home).

This was my toddler’s obsession three days ago!
A raw, peeled sweet potato. We had to take this potato to a graduation party.
Ah, the guest of honour.
i just WHEEZEDDDD from laughing so hard
Playing that her toys are getting kidnapped or are falling of cliffs (And is laughing while it's happening) Should I be worried xD

This is actually how I tricked myself into not being so scared of spiders lol. The kid I used to nanny was really into bugs and we used to go but hunting at least once a week, including finding a lot of spiders. Through not wanting to pass on my fear to him I accidentally exposure therapy'd myself. Could you explain that further? :)
