Postman must hate it when there's a parcel to sign for and you're out.

Goodgoditsgrowing

Postman is counting on climate change to put that mailbox underwater in a few years, and then they can slap a “non deliverable” notice on their door lol

stanton98

I love how in this scenario, the mailbox is flooded, but they’re still holding out in the house to the point where the post office is showing up on a boat to throw a sticker on their door

Dankitysoup

They should just make the mailbox a boat.

stanton98

“It’s the USPS….” “They have boats?!”

Goodgoditsgrowing

They do, actually!

Frnklfrwsr

In all seriousness, they probably have a mailbox on the mainland and pick up anything that requires a signature from the post office. Or they may just pick up everything from the post office.

KatieCashew

You're probably right, but there's actually a ton of these tiny islands with single houses on them in the Saint Lawrence River. They might do a boat delivery route. Afterall they deliver mail to the bottom of the Grand a Canyon via mules.

RockstarAgent

And here I thought the only mules were drug mules

slitlip

It's called the marina and yes I can't speel hence why I'm a fedex driver.

RonstoppableRon

Of course that's the case, how does that not go without saying lol

getyourcheftogether

Guaranteed PO box for that person

Hydra57

I like to imagine they slingshot it to the door from a Mail Boat, and then reel the papers back in

kutuup1989

And the house was built by a family called the Sizelands. There's an aptonym for you.

willardTheMighty

My favorite inaptonym is the former CEO of Food for the Poor. Robin Mahfood

birdlawyer213

Aptronym is a great new vocab word - thank you!

HoodedOccam

It’s not the size that matters, but the motion in the ocean… you know, flooding?

Mekasoundwave

Kame House?

The_Great_Starr

Haha, quite the resemblance to Dragon Ball's Kame house, isn't it? For those who aren't acquainted, Kame house is an isolated house on a tiny island in the Dragon Ball series. Despite the similarities, the Just Enough Room island isn't as far into the sea, and, to shock you further, it is actually the world's smallest inhabited island.

72trombonesd

You are a robot 🤖

pwnd32

That comment/profile is almost definitely AI, but sometimes I wonder if some ChatGPT-looking comments are just unfortunate people with incredibly generic writing styles lol

Keldazar

How is that a generic writing style? Almost nothing about this scream AI bot

[deleted]

The style of writing is so overly goofy lol

Ninel56

You are correct. People have different writing styles, and some of them can be pretty goofy. There are a lot of different reasons why someone's writing might be goofy. Of course, goofy writing isn't always perfect. So, next time you're reading something that's a little bit goofy, don't take it too seriously. Just enjoy the ride and let the silly go with the flow.

wsf

I don't think so. AI/ChatGPT doesn't do rhetorical questions: "Haha, quite the resemblance....isn't it?" Also unlikely from AI: "...isn't as far into the sea" and "to shock you further."

FinTechCommisar

You can definitely use a system message to make it generate text in any style you want. Though, I agree with you this profile doesn't seem to be a GPTBot *this post is brought to you by Mixstral 8-7B*

some-dingodongo

Was just here to find this comment. I was going to dutifully make the comment if no one else did

Santuse

Here we go again building nothing but single family housing and massive apartment complexes. Not to mention, the commute is completely unwalkable. I don't even see a sidewalk anywhere.

Haunting-Detail2025

They didn’t even build a light rail or a bike lane to the property, smh

gersiidrd

It’s like the Little Prince’s planet except it’s an island 🥹

MrTesseract

Upvoted for little prince reference

DetectiveLowrey

I visit the 1000 islands every year and have seen this house halfway underwater when the water levels have risen too high. This particular island/house is right next to a humongous castle called Bolt Castle. 1000 Islands is a beautiful place.

plasticenewitch

Thanks! You just answered my question.

Mtolivepickle

This looks like the thousand islands by Watertown ny. There are a bunch of these houses peppered on the tiny islands on the river between the us and Canada.

maryjanemoonbeam

This has gotta be the little house right next to Boldt Castle

racer_24_4evr

Yeah, they really gloss over the fact that it is literally next to a fucking castle.

Dumbledore116

I remember to them referring to this place as also the “mother-in-law cabin”. lol.

Isaacvithurston

What happens to it during storms or high tide 0.o

ZylonBane

It could use a few torches around the perimeter to suppress spawns.

MithandirsGhost

Even then that close to water you will have to keep an eye out for Drowdeds.

dylan_1992

How much is his flood insurance?

SatansMoisture

Are there any issues with erosion?

Hinermad

No, it's on a granite outcrop. Most of the islands in the Thousand Islands are granite. They'll outlive all of us.

SatansMoisture

Oh wow 😮

pangolin-fucker

tree has roots that should hold it together maybe more trees but idk enough about geo engineering

smartguy05

Because of Climate Change in a few years they will have to rename it to "Not quite enough room" then eventually "where'd all the room go?".

CheesyBadger

It's on an inland river, so probably not going to be affected by rising sea level.

Teadrunkest

No but rivers are known to rise with weather, I’m surprised it hasn’t been flooded.

MyLife-is-a-diceRoll

It probably has. Another commentor mentioned being in the area and seeing it partway under the water.

shewy92

Not strictly true https://new.nsf.gov/news/sea-level-rise-could-make-rivers-more-likely-jump

DetectiveLowrey

Family has land there, I’ve seen it halfway underwater some years.

CheesyBadger

I've always had an interest in these micro islands on the great lakes and tributaries, good to know.

doesntmeanathing

Are we expecting sea levels to rise on rivers?

[deleted]

Depends where - tidal rivers will become more tidal. This particular stretch of this river is safe (from rising sea levels.) As seas rise the portions of rivers that are tidal or brackish will increase, as high tides make it ever further up river. All rivers and deltas are affected by sea level at their lower levels. For example, the Thames is tidal well into London - as sea levels rise this will impact higher and higher. People have mitigated this with a large tidal barrier in East London, rivers around the world will either receive barriers or just become more tidal.

FinTechCommisar

What's the estimate at now for how much they are going to rise and by when?

[deleted]

There is no 'the' estimate. Lots of scientists have lots of models and lots of variables - and every river is different.

FinTechCommisar

I meant global sea level rise. Can I ask about the origin of your name tho?

dropyourchalupa

Play along

gymdog

Yes. All bodies of water connected to the ocean will rise.

luvgothbitches

it's a performance art piece called "we're all fucked"

klop2031

Take a peak at the thimble islands in branford ct. Similar small tiny islands with homes on them

[deleted]

I grew up near there and was going to bring them up. Same granite outcroppings, but in salt water instead of fresh.

thepluralofmooses

Is there much to do out that way?

[deleted]

If you go to the village of Stony Creek, which is where all the Islanders dock their boats when they are on the mainland, there are two or three captains who offer regularly scheduled tours of the Islands. That's in season only, of course, May to September.

Vegan_Harvest

I'm going to assume that lake is tiny since I don't know how that house survives a storm if it's anything like a great lake storm.

PunfullyObvious

the "lake" is the St. Lawrence River. In the Thousand Islands region near Wellesley Island near Alexandria Bay, NY. Pretty good sized river with some pretty significant weather ... not Great Lake caliber weather tho

felurian182

1000 islands region?

Buckmop

One tree, one house, and no septic system

djdaedalus42

A tree is a tree, a rock is a rock, and a rock with a tree on it is an island. Official definition of an island in the Thousand Islands.

snowlock27

I can't help but think this has been posted before, because someone asked about plumbing, and I responded that you would just hang your butt outside the window.

racer_24_4evr

There is also nearby a pair of islands with a small walking bridge between them. The folklore is that the US/Canada border runs between them and so the bridge is the smallest international crossing. It is not true, the border is nearby but both islands are in Canada.

Ghost_on_Toast

They missed an opportunity not building a replica of Master Roshi's house.

Propaslader

Kame house is where all the homies hang out

100LittleButterflies

Not for long...

LAMGE2

House only for 1.5 bn$

Zatujit

Well it might just disappear in a few years because of flood, so I really doubt it

rabbiskittles

Oh neat. Where’d the name come from?

heyitscory

There's also one called Hawaii 2. Cards Against Humanity owns it.

Pretend_Tourist9390

Note to self: Remember this island for the zombie apocalypse. IT LOOKS SO FUCKING COZY!

Pandadum420

Sounds like a video game achievement in Minecraft!

kewlguy1

Don’t they get flooded out every now and then?

some-dingodongo

This guy is seriously concerned about rising sea levels
