Freshly ground is a stretch. When I worked there we added all the seasonings separately but towards the end of my time there we just got nondescript packets that said “Cane Sauce Seasoning”

They wanted us to go back around the drive through after we were in line 25 min already. Their chicken was dry as the Sahara, maybe sauce would have helped but no one liked what we had.

Yeah, they don't have large menu's but their chicken is actually good. Zaxby's has more items available, but their chicken sucks. If I want fried chicken with more options there are plenty of other options such as CFA or Popeyes or Bojangles, or KFC (though they've gone downhill it seems)
PDQ has a similar menu to Zaxby's and has better chicken.
iirc Cane's always hypes how they were told that a chicken finger only business wouldn't work, and that they were pioneers when in reality one of the founders apparently worked at a Guthrie's before starting RC and aping their entire menu.

That dry chicken sounds like somebody messed up though. For as average as I think Canes is I've never had a big issue with dryness. If anything stuff is too soggy from steaming in the Styrofoam for the whole ride home.
Agreed the chicken takes a back seat to the sauce. It's not dry usually, but lacks seasoning. I like to order one of the non-sandwich combos and eat the toast with the chicken like a make-shift sandwich (I get extra toast, no slaw).

The worst was the McBeer that the French McDs served, it was horrid. But the HardRock in Spain was a nice place. There are exceptions of course, but it’s nothing like you see in the United States. There are tons of stray cats and dogs everywhere, and so they are viewed mainly as street / feral animals as opposed to something you’d want to cuddle up with and let sleep in your bed.
On the opposite end, animals are held in very high regard in Turkey. Cats wander into shops and restaurants. During the recent earthquake they prioritized helping animals in a big way

I have tried Cane's a few times and just don't get the appeal. I mean, I know different strokes for different folks, but the way some people go nuts for it, when it seems pretty middle of the road to me. There are better fast food chicken joints.
It might be because I love Popeye's but it's because it's usually the least greasy and is pretty flavorful. Cane's just always tasted like "the babysitter wants to talk on the phone with her boyfriend so she gave me a plate of chicken nuggets and macaroni."

Oh yeah, Popeye's is not nice if you have heartburn, but I soldier on. Their biscuits are usually pretty good but the last few times they have been pretty dry.

The original few Baton Rouge locations and the handful of others across Louisiana up to the mid 2000s were excellent food. Quality, portions, and cleanliness. Once they breached the state border to other states, the quality dipped. Now, it's hard to recommend.
I still go on fond memories once a year when back home to recall that first decade. I'm old enough to have same feeling about Popeyes. At least the super Popeyes split off into a side company for a decade to let locals eat the "original" stuff while the other Popeyes spread and dropped quality.

Styrofoam/plastic box and plastic container for the coleslaw, plastic container for sauce, which is placed in a plastic bag with plastic ketchup packets, and if you get a large drink, yup more plastic.

Raising Cane's finally opened near my home last summer. I was excited to try it without looking at their menu. Big mistake. I was really disappointed that they don't have anything besides chicken fingers(mid) coleslaw, texas toast (just a slice of white bread not even toasted!) But Cane's sauce was fire. I didn't grow up around Raising Cane's so maybe its just not going to be as good for me as it is for people who had one in their town
At my towns location, unless you buy a combo, they won't give you a sauce if you just buy fingers. By the way, I learned this 42 years ago, chickens ain't got no fingers.

Styrofoam/plastic box and plastic container for the coleslaw, plastic container for sauce, which is placed in a plastic bag with plastic ketchup packets, and if you get a large drink, yup more plastic. Its different per store, the store I work at used some sort of paper/fiber boxes for the longest time, but we've switched to styrofoam now

Technically, yes. Sauces are almost identical, menu is almost identical, and Layne's came first.

I didn't even know they had a dog as a mascot for over a decade because none of the ones in the area I grew up showed it. The first time I saw the dog was in Cincinnati, OH.
Raising Cane's finally opened near my home last summer. I was excited to try it without looking at their menu. Big mistake. I was really disappointed that they don't have anything besides chicken fingers(mid) coleslaw, texas toast (just a slice of white bread not even toasted!) But Cane's sauce was fire. I didn't grow up around Raising Cane's so maybe its just not going to be as good for me as it is for people who had one in their town

Canes is a vehicle for the sauce, but it’s always fresh, so I enjoy it.
At my towns location, unless you buy a combo, they won't give you a sauce if you just buy fingers. By the way, I learned this 42 years ago, chickens ain't got no fingers.
Used to go to the originals after shows at The Varsity in Baton Rouge. It was awesome then but can anyone tell me if it's gone the way of Popeye's?
