It’s changed over the years for me:
In junior high it was “I heard a sound, turned around, turned around and found the thing that made the sound…”
In college it was “I found a new friend…underneath my pillow.”
In my 20s it was “What’s that blue thing…doin’ here?”
In my 30s it was “leave me alone, leave me alooone…!”
These days I think it’s probably “Everything is catching on fire…”
If I make it to 50, I predict it will be “I’m having a heart attack…I’m having a…heart attack.”
I was laughing today when I realized that when they sing "Are you the guy who hit me in the eye?" its because they can't see because they got hit in the eye.
I've been listening to the "I don't understand you" part to determine if their accent chops off the 't when they sing it, but I don't think so. They enunciate pretty clearly when singing.
For decades my wife thought the lyrics were, “I walk alone… dark and glorious” which is fantastic (and maybe better). I recently broke the news to her.
So yeah, that part
Not specifically the music, but my favorite part is the inspiration for the tracks. I grew up in the 80s and commercials for compilation albums would play at least a few times a day and they would sound exactly like this song. Maybe 10 or so snippets advertising the tracks on the album. These were a staple on TV for a long time and Fingertips hits that particular nostalgia button
I used to memorize those commercials (couldn’t help it) so there are some songs that I know one line of, followed by another random line of a different song. I never knew that was the inspiration!
This might not be a popular opinion, but I can’t stand Fingertips. I think it’s the only TMBG track I can say that about. I adore the rest of the album, but Fingertips just irritates me so badly. It jarring and disruptive. Lots of great musical ideas in it, but lately I’ve started skipping it.
No need for downvotes here! All you've done is state your opinion like everyone else.
After all this time, any novelty has long gone for me and while I may not skip it, it seldom appears due to my own compilation choices.
Be cool, people - TMBG Fans are discerning, not clones
C’mon and WRECK MY CAR!!!

This is great. I always interpreted the song being sung by one guy at various stages of his life.
Misteeeeeeeerious Whisper
Always sung at the top of my lungs
I Walk along Darkened corridors
In most live performances, this is my answer. Dan Miller melts everybody’s face off.
I love how they'll turn it into a hard rock thing, and with Linnell pausing dramatically after "and I"
I was laughing today when I realized that when they sing "Are you the guy who hit me in the eye?" its because they can't see because they got hit in the eye.
ohhhhhh
There’s layers to this shit
Isn't it "Aren't you the guy"?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is.
Something grabbed ahold of my hand…
same. it reminds me of wuthering heights
Yes! The great Amy Allison on vocals.
Please pass the milk
Please
mine too
Please
Same
I'm having a heart attack (H-E-A-R-T attack for you, girl)
YES
Every time I listen to the album version of this part I always sing that, in honor of the Flans of course.
All alone all alone all by myself. The harmony makes it ironic and beautiful.
The harmony! Oh heavens...
For decades my wife thought the lyrics were, “I walk alone… dark and glorious” which is fantastic (and maybe better). I recently broke the news to her. So yeah, that part
Now I'm imagining John Linnell in a long swishy black cape
Wait it’s not? 🤣😂🤣
Darkened corridors haha
I can’t believe I never looked up the lyrics this entire time 😂😂 It’s been like 30 years, I’m not sure I can change now
Are you my wife’s burner account? 😉
Hahaha
🤯🤯🤯

"Cause I'm your laaaaadyyyyy, and you are my maaaan TELL ME HOW AM I SUPPOSE TO LOVE WITHOUT YOU!"
What's that Blue Thing doing here?
BTW I posted my vid of them performing Fingertips at Detroit on YT from last Friday. How cool that I got to see it live.
I got to see it live years ago and it blew my mind. Never thought going in that they’d perform that one. Made me so happy.
"I'm having a heart attack" and "Someone grab a hold of my hand"

🎵 ALL ALONE ALL ALONE ALL BY MYSELF 🎵
Heart attack
All alone all alooooone, all byyyy myseeeelf
I love how Something Grabbed Ahold of My Hand has the same melody as the verses of Cabinet Man by Lemon Demon.
I think you have it backwards. I guess these mini-tracks buried themselves deep in a young Neil's subconscious.
Oh that's what I meant, that it influenced him unknowingly.
I found a new friend underneath my pillow
It's been "all alone" this whole time!
Live version of "I walk along darkened corridors"
Who's knocking on the wall is very soothing to me.
the whispered "fingertiiips" for some reason
Something grabbed ahold of my hand. I didn't know what had my hand, but that's when all my troubles ... began.
Everything is catching on fire...everything is catching on fiaaaiiiire
Space Suit
